Glad to see you got out on the ice! I know Mark as well, Jig and a minnow is a staple for all fish. You can catch pretty much anything up here with it! We will go out fishing soon!
Hello Aubrey! Thanks so much for coming. It was my pleasure to help make sure Jay stayed safe. He did the same for me. Truly such a nice guy. How he is on video is how he is in real life. Thanks for the support! Looking forward to chatting again! //derek
We are so humbled that you are joining us Brandon! Thank you so much and we're looking forward to hosting you and all of our subscribers - both new and old - in all our upcoming adventures! //derek
I see that I am not the first one to find you through Jay's channel, but I'm excited to see more! Thanks for sharing your story with us. Best of luck and let's learn some stuff.
I know, right?! Hahaha! I think the next time out fishing will be in a slightly bigger one. We had a nice big one for the last ten years but I... um... wrecked it last season.. lol. That's on a video somewhere ;). Thanks for joining in with us! //derek
Definitely always idea to check the ice thickness , that wind made be shiver , sounded Cold Brrrrr , and I'm not exactly one who minds the cold LOL. I gotta get me a ice fishing tent to for some winter fishing I've been throwing hints as Christmas approached but I'm pretty sure Santa hasn't heard them yet LOL. Now I'm looking for one for two cots and a wood stove LOL. I want to be able to Cook , probably be eating steak too with my fishing luck LOL. Need a welding blanket around the tent to keep the heat from the heater , of course won't help falling in the hole LOL. Three of my four kids are lefties LOL. As I say it's Fishing not catching , it's all about the adventure ....I keep telling myself that LOL. Hope you have an awesome week looking forward to the next adventure
Hi Derek! Enjoyed the video! Got cold just watching you get set up. Good thing I’m in front of the wood stove! Take care and we’ll see you next time!>Terry!
HEY DEREK! I sub Jays channel and I LOVE this kind of content! I am 61, disabled and have my "adventures" through you guys and yes, I AM a "girl" .... I used to get out there and have fun but I can now watch others do it! I can't wait to fully check your channel out! STAY WARM and thanks for seein' Jay to his cabin safely. NEW SUB as of today 🙂
Thank you very much for telling your story! PLEASE let us know if there’re things we can throw in the channel to bring you out here with us as realistically as possible! And it was my pleasure helping to get Jay there safe and sound. He did the same for me. Jay is truly an awesome guy! Can’t wait to hear from you more! Cheers! //derek
Buddy, I'm so jealous of your ability to get out ice fishing this early! Back home, we are down to 4-6 weeks of good ice if we are lucky. And not able to get out until mid January. And silly me, I just bought my 5th rental shack! It's an addiction for sure! That is a very tight shack. I highly recommend you picking up a portable like my Otter. It's an insulated tent built on a sled with a bench seat. 4 of us can sit on bench and fish comfortably. Lots of room for 2 others on chairs and space for heater and gear. It sets up in minutes with aluminum framing all hinged. It would be fantastic for hauling behind your sled out to the tent. I've never ice fished out your way but here I tie a length of florocarbon and attach my jig to it. I also rig my minnow to be horizontal in the water colum. Try it might work good out there as well. As always, I love the videos, I've watched this twice already, lol. Cheers ! Jay
Thanks Jay. Wishing some cold weather for you guys soon! I’ll have to give your method a look for sure. An Otter is definitely a set-up I’ve looked at recently.
Thank you for tuning in Kathy! If all goes well, I’m hoping to get some traveling in to the high arctic from time to time as well. Stay tuned! Much appreciation! //derek
Happy to have you :). Jay is an awesome guy. I've been subscribed to him for the past few years and am honoured to actually get to shake his hand. A snowaholic, eh? Where abouts in the world are you? //derek
@SubArcticAdventures middle of England, 3 whole flakes of snow per year if im lucky :-( so i live thro channels like urs and Jays whilst imagining myself in the Canadian wilderness!
@@moreteapleaseorcheese Happy to have you! Please don’t hesitate to let us know if there are any special requests in how you can experience the area we have here as best as you can!! (Might need to make it a brand new comment though. I almost missed this one. For some reason it’s hit or miss if I get notified about replies to comments 😬).
Hey Clifford! Thanks so much for coming by! Please go easy on us for our first few videos. We have learned so many things along the way and have so much to learn still ;). But we are having a blast getting to know our audience and what you all like and not like - so please don't be a stranger! Cheers! //derek
Sure do Mike! Honestly, if I could make it work I’d go off-grid for good. 1000%. Through the adventures we’re having with the channel, I’ve already learned so much but there is a ton more. Someday, I’d even love to build a log cabin but we’re years away (not forever though) from that. Thanks for joining in! //derek
• Pro Tip: Drill the hole first and then place your shelter over the hole. That shelter is way too small I think. • I’ve driven a 2500 Chevy suburban on 8 inches of ice on Lake Champlain (NY side) with no problems numerous times. Please don’t tell my insurance company 😂
I think you’re 100% correct. With this tent, drilling the hole first is the way to go. Scooping the hole out and dripping over the zipper was the reason I couldn’t get the door closed because of the freezing. And you are one brave gentleman. I wouldn’t take my 3/4 ton on anything less than a foot thick… and even that’s pushing it because diesel = heavier. Stay safe buddy!!
Thanks so much man! I’d miss it here if I were to ever leave for sure. I’m glad that I can help to bring you back here with us as realistically as possible. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d love to see in future videos. I plan on venturing out through a few things I’m sure you’ll remember… like the ice castle 😉. Cheers man! //derek
I give you an A for putting up with the conditions. Always try out your shack before you head out onto the ice. You need a thermal shack if you’re gonna fish at night. A bigger heater for sure. Be careful you don’t burn thru your line. Brutal weather for sure to be using that shack. Good luck next time.
100%. I’ve got a thermal Eskimo quick fish that I’ll bring out next time. I wrecked my Eskimo fatfish 9416 so looking for a replacement. Maybe an outbreak? I would love to do an overnight ice fishing camp out this winter, so a good heater for sure! Next time, I’ll guarantee some hooked fish! 😅. Thanks for tuning in! //derek
I wouldn’t be opposed to trying it for sure! It was a new auger purchase for quick outings I anticipate doing this season. I have a 2-stroke gas powered 10” one for when the ice gets to be about 6 feet thick 😉.

ice picks when on ice is like a seatbelt when in a car... you hope you never need it but you never go without it.
Amen Gord! Couldn’t have said it better myself! I also had a floatation skidoo suit on. Can’t be too safe when the ice is still forming! Thanks for joining us! So grateful! Cheers! //derek
Very much appreciate it! Thank you and WELCOME! Looking forward to growing this channel into something great with you and the rest of the awesome community that we’re building together here! Cheers mate! //derek
