Balanced Rock Road near Woodland Park, CO
This was our first time completing the Balanced Rock trail. We had driven it about half-way one other time but needed to turn back because it was getting late. We are glad we finished it this time because the reservoir at the end is beautiful and a very relaxing setting. As you will see, there are a lot of large boulders along the way on this trail. Our kids love exploring and climbing on them so we did that a few times. It was a good day. Thanks for watching!

Rainbow Falls near Woodland Park, CO
Переглядів 1,4 тис.Рік тому
The Rainbow Falls area (and "trail") is very popular here in the Colorado Springs area. On this Saturday, we chose to go early in the morning. We even made breakfast near the start of the trail to try and beat the crowds. We got off the trail around 11am when traffic was really starting to pick up. You will find quite a few ways to do this trail. We chose to start on 350.A to 348. From there we...
Old Stage / Gold Camp Roads to Victor & Cripple Creek CO
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
Starting in Colorado Springs, you can get to Victor completely on these dirt roads. These roads are not difficult and, during the warmer months, passenger cars have no problems handling them. We stopped for lunch along the way at a nice, large, campsite. Once in Victor, you can easily drive to Cripple Creek. After Cripple Creek, we headed towards Divide, then Woodland Park and back to Colorado ...
Hotel Gulch Winding Stairs
Переглядів 174Рік тому
Hotel Gulch and Winding Stairs are trails north of Woodland Park, CO in Pike National Forest. This route can be found in the @FunTreks Third Edition book (it was left out of the fourth edition) for Colorado. It is the kids' favorite route, mainly for the lunch spot we go to, they like to climb on the boulders. This time there is a water puddle in the road that they drove their trucks through. T...
Rule Ridge Loop in a Jeep Commander
Переглядів 88Рік тому
Rule Ridge is part of a trail system north of Divide, CO in Pike National Forest. This loop can be found in the @FunTreks book for Colorado. We ran it in the opposite direction as the book says because I wanted to make sure we went uphill on the short section, FR358, that connects FR364 to FR 357. We've done this loop many times in our Gladiator but this was the first in our Commander AND with ...
Phantom Canyon Road - Gold Belt Tour - in a Jeep Commander
Переглядів 110Рік тому
Phantom Canyon Road is a well maintained dirt road that any vehicle can drive. It goes from Canyon City to Victor, CO. It does have many annoying washboard sections. We drove it in our Jeep Commander and had the hitch carrier attached so we could bring our @RTICOutdoors cooler with all our lunch foods inside. We did find one side road that was fun but it was only about 50 yards long. There were...
Mount Herman Road - Monument, CO FR320
Переглядів 93Рік тому
Mount Herman Road is an extremely easy trail during normal conditions (basically a dirt road) and even with some snow, and a little ice, it was still very easy. It runs from Monument to Woodland Park. We did this in a Jeep Gladiator and a Jeep Commander. The highlights of this trail are primarily the many large boulder formations as well as the views. There are many places to pull over, have lu...
Rocky Mountain National Park Day 4
Переглядів 17Рік тому
Day 4 was our final day in the RMNP and Estes Park before heading home. The morning started out with another bull elk bugling nearby. Once we left the campground, we headed to Lily Lake. There we hiked around the lake, it was a very beautiful setting. Once we finished there we headed into the park. We were lucky enough to see a big horn sheep in the Sheep Lakes area. After going back to the cam...
Rocky Mountain National Park Day 3
Переглядів 46Рік тому
Day 3 started off with being awoken by the sounds of a bull elk bugling. He was literally right outside of our camper as you will see. A little while after he left, some deer came by to say hi as well. Once we got inside the park, we went up Old Fall River Road to the Alpine Visitor Center. Along the way we stopped at Chasm Falls and we hiked most of the Chapin Creek trail. Once arriving at the...
Rocky Mountain National Park Day 2

This is the second video in our RMNP series. Please check out our first video as well. In this video, we started our day heading to the Wild Basin entrance of the park. We had never been to that area before and wanted to check it out. There we hiked to Copeland Falls, both upper and lower falls. After that hike we had lunch along the St. Vrain Creek and saw quite a few fly fisherman walking the...
Rocky Mountain National Park Estes Park Day 1

@dirtroadfamilyadventures took an amazing trip to Estes Park that included many trips, over multiple days, into Rocky Mountain National Park. This is the first video in a series that we will be putting out over the next few weeks. We were there September 10th through the 16th. We camped in Estes Park near the Beaver Meadows entrance. It was a great location. Day 1 started at the Beaver Meadows ...
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Medano Pass trail
Переглядів 142Рік тому
We took a short trip to Great Sand Dunes National Park, in south central Colorado, in early October. Upon driving up on the dunes, it was like nothing else we have ever experienced. Very cool to see this large amount of sand in the middle of nowhere with mountains in the background. Definitely worth experiencing at least once! dirtroadfamiliyadventures.com Jeep Gladiator Build: Mopar Lift Kit -...

Thanks for the vid, I can't find many videos on this road. I rode my mountain bike up yesterday and then let gravity take me back down. Really enjoyed blasting those swales they cut in the road. Pretty much makes it a DH trail with about 50 consecutive jumps. Access by hike or bike can also be had from Palmer Lake. Visit O'Malley's for some great food!

Most likely, yes. The later in the season the less water is flowing, depth is less. We went in August and it wasn't bad. Thanks for the comment!

It wasn't washed out when we were there in mid-August. It might have been the water crossing on 110J though. We didn't venture down there but I have watched some videos that it appears washed out. Thanks for the comment!

Halfmoon Gulch is probably my favorite. Very scenic, lots of water crossings and Champion Mill at the top. We haven't finished Tin Cup, though, so that might overtake it one day. :) Thanks for the comment!

Great video! Last August we were driving by GSNP after doing Imogene, Engineer, Los Pinos passes. Decided on a whim to stop at the park and then found out about the Medano Pass trail. Think we started it around 3:00p so we didn't have a chance to really get as much video as the drive deserves. What a fun drive. Water crossings, sand, rocks what more could you ask for in a fun off-road drive? Definitely will return next time we are in Colorado.

Couldn't agree more! If we had more time I would have loved to do both sides of the pass, so I hear you. Our GoPro died along the trip too so we didn't capture as much as we would have liked. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

I would say yes. There weren't any major obstacles. Unless something has changed dramatically since last July, absolutely.
