How Living in Serbia Transformed the Way I Eat and Connect with People
Living in Serbia has completely transformed how I view food-it’s no longer just about eating, it’s about connection, experience, and enjoying life.
In this video, I share my visit to EATALIA, an incredible Italian restaurant and grocery shop located in the heart of Dorćol, Belgrade. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mia, the daughter of the owners, who shared the history of her family’s restaurant-the first Italian restaurant in Serbia!
Mia gave me a tour of the shop, explained how all the groceries are imported directly from Italy, and selected the most amazing dishes for us to enjoy. We spent over an hour bonding over food, talking about life in Belgrade, and sharing stories. I left feeling like I’d made a new friend and gained a deeper appreciation for the dining culture here in Serbia.
While editing, I realized part of the footage had no audio due to a microphone issue, but I’ve included highlights of the food and our time together. If you're visiting or moving to Serbia, EATALIA in Dorćol is a must-visit spot for its authentic Italian flavors and the warm hospitality of its owners.
If you're planning to move to Serbia, start a business, or buy property, I offer scouting services to help you settle in and connect with the local community.
Feel free to reach out and let’s build something amazing together!

I was just looking at the restaurants in the area via Google Maps after seeing YT foodies visiting Belgrade eateries. I jotted down a few spots I would like to visit after I arrive on Feb 3. There was a restaurant that served Goulash which I love, and they placed it in a big bun in the shape of a sourdough bread. Glad this place you're showing (was on map) has a store for food items as I plan to look for a place in Dorcol or the center and have somewhere to buy what I need when I feel like eating Italian. But that will be a while since I've been in Italy for almost 2 years and am ready to move on. Right now all I prefer is meat, gravy, and potatoes.

Blair, I bet you didn't know that the word slave actually originates from the word slav, as in slavic person, because slavic people used to be enslaved in the middle ages. Slavic people were always against slavery because our ancestors lived it.

This made me think of the time after I watched a PBS docuseries, I asked my mother, if a dog is sent from America to Paris, France and is given a command, will it understand what it was told to do in another language? Me: thinking animals are very smart, intuitively. Well, she looked at me puzzled, then said, girl, I don't know! While still in the single digit age at that time, I thought mom's knew everything. Yet, after this segment, it's us as humans, who need to work on understanding each other, like finding common ground...humor like this in its simplicity, is definitely a start. 😊

American here! When I recently passed by a neighbor's cat and said me-ow, it looked at me like, huh?! But, when I said mew (mūw) to it, it turned on it's back for a belly rub. As if to say, that I recognize! 😂 Even animals have their own recognizable sounds. For fowl, other than old Hollywood hoofer musicals that used cock-a-doodle-doo as part of their song and dance routine; a real rooster would be insulted. It's a combo of bb-uck repeated sounds mingled together for hens. A rooster, er-er-er-er-eeeer fluctuations like notes on a music scale. I will always remember the one that woke me up every morning, same time with its internal clock, during our family summer visits down south. 😊

There was no racism in Serbia simply because there was no other race. However, there is plenty of nationalism and discrimination against other religions.
