    Being as big of a retro gamer as I am I had no idea this game even existed until today and I thought I knew of all the Jurassic Park games. This game is an incredible technical showpiece for what the Genesis was really capable of. I feel like this game is so overlooked because of the time it came out. 1997 is ridiculously late to release a Genesis game and with the Lost World being on Saturn and Playstation everyone was more interested in the fancy new 3D game.

    This is just a slightly upgraded version of the Gameboy port of the orgional Jurrasic Park game. I had it and am nostalgic about it but it sucked so much. This game is visually better thanks to the superior hardware and likley has different mission layout but otherwise seems to play identical. Right down to the unfair perspective for the gamplay, stiff controls, frustrating limited amo system, tedious mission types, broken AI, etc. I suggest you give that game a playthrough. I'm sure it will only be a worse version of this but you may love it for simply being origional JP mainstream content that gets little recognition since it came out. Again..some broken programming, so maybe look it up ahead of time. One that always proves a challenge is the TRex encounter. You are painfully slowly trying to sidescroll from one end of the level to the next. It's basically a game of red light/greenlight where you need to be fully stopped before the rex comes on screen or it will bite you and take a serious chunk of your health. If you are sucessfull, it will come onto the screen to your left, look around and back off. Once it is fully offscreen you move again. It is supposed to emulate the motion based sight in thw movie but in addition to being way to long a level to be fun, the AI is broken. It's near impossible to pull off already since you need to guess and err on the safe side since being onscreen at all mean he already sees you. Additionally however, it will just come and bite you even if you pull it off at times. The one main mechanic of the level just doesn't work sometimes. You CAN shoot the rex into retreating if you seem him making a beeline to you but he is a bullet sponge and your ammo can be a bit precious. In all levels except these special ones, the dinos perpetually respawn but ammo, especially the hard hitting stuff, is limited and rare. This also only protects you from this one charge and only if you hit him enough while avoiding him on the small screen before running out. He will come onto the screen quite a few times during the level and ot does not take many bites to kill you. It's a good deal based on luck that you make it through and with enough health/ammo to not be in immediate trouble at the next level. The Triceratops Stampede is another example of unavoidable hits through a broken Mechanic. The level is identical tot he rex except the triceratops will be continuously running up from behind you past in waves. The randomized generation if these screen sweepers just makes it impossible to get out of the way in time sometimes. The small GB screen really hindered the choice of gamplay in a lot of regards but I'd say for someone like you who found enjoyment in this lost world game, it may be worth it. OH! The music from thsi lost world game ALSO seems inspired by the music from the JP Gameboy game. It was orgional music for the game so it stood out but was weird and SUPER annoying after a while. The genesis LW music is clearly a lot better and more complex but it does seem to reuse the GB JP game music as a base or inspiration.

    There was another Jurassic Park game on genesis. But in that one, I'm guessing the guy's who made it never saw the movie... The game abruptly begins. Sidescroller. You're Alan Grant. Alan screams "Yee-Haw!" Jumps on the back of dilophosaurus. Machine pistol in hand. You then start racing towards the right and blasting dinosaurs. And when you shoot them, they "explode" like they had a diet of nothing but hot dogs and tannerite. My buddy tossed it on while scrolling through an ever drive once. We were expecting the game you're playing. We were both kinda baked, so once the spectacle began, we were laughing so hard we could hardly breathe. And when I managed to get out "they never saw the movie!", we just laughed harder. It was completely bizarre and ridiculous, and we experienced it in the best possible way.

      To be fair, there never should be much more for most genres. Games are an interactive medium in a way that movies really aren't. Trying to turn a movie into an interactive game without taking a bunch of liberties doesn't really ever work. At most you can take the plot, but then again, pacing of video games is just not the same, unless it's an incredibly short game.

You take a bit of damage, but the boss takes constant damage as well. Remembering where the pill powerups are and going into fights as Bert makes many of the fights easier also. In round 7 there is a glitch in the programming. In the beta there were only 2 bosses, so there is a variable check that looks for 2 bosses defeated, then gives the exit key. It's a fair question. They both have good and bad traits!

      I think the snes is alittle better cause theres accouple of stages where you become the first person shooter like Duke nukem., but I must say the graphics for the genesis are way better than the snes

      @thatgameoverguy 27 днів тому

      @@MyChocow the first person stages are absolutely awesome. I also like that they integrated the SNES mouse to move around in there if you have one. It was kinda clunky, but the idea was cool, lol. But I do agree that this game overall looks much better.

      @@thatgameoverguy I had no idea about the mouse thing lol I knew they had it for Mario paint game and that was also a gem of a game but for jurassic park I had no clue thats even possible. THANK YOU for this trip back to memories lanes, adrenaline of nostalgia just hitted me real good

    Wait? I was ten and had a Genesis and somehow NEVER PLAYED THIS? Wow

    • @thatgameoverguy
      @thatgameoverguy 27 днів тому

      It was definitely on the rare side, smaller potential audience means fewer units produced. It's a real bummer, since it's one of my favorite games on the console!

    It’s so weird to think about it being late in the Genesis life. I had nothing else pretty much until they stopped making games.I do remember renting and playing this. I remember loving it and enjoying it. It’s never left me. But I feel like it’s rare, I never come across it anywhere, I haven’t played it since I rented it. But seeing those stego cages and the car brought a smile to my face. It was nice seeing this again.

      That's so awesome! I'm glad I was able to bring those memories back for you! It is weird how rare this game seems. I guess it was just due to the timing and interest in the console dropping off. It's a legit hidden gem and I love it so much.
