Demo of layered new sounds (and then brief solos) that are new additions to my Per Note Sample collection for wind synths, performed on Johan Berglund's wonderful NuEVI. 1 of these is an 8 octave per note sample of Analog Saw Waves played through Nyle Steiner's string filter. Ah, and the VCO happens to be from a Steiner Synthesytem Module. The other 6 are samples per note from a Crumar EVI. I'l...

I've created 100 wind synth patches for this low cost synth and also have extended my Time Travel Bundle (all my sounds) special. FB message me or email me at monkeydrums@hotmail.com for info. ($95 for 1 collection and $250 for the bundle). Thanks so much!

Breath driving Volume directly via midi into the NSX-39. A few parts are recorded directly and most are sent through the stereo delay audio effect that comes with Logic. Very cool little box. I think it would sound far smoother run through a less steppy volume plugin or volume algo within Logic etc. Very fun. Very neat technology.

Anyma Phi - Setting a Control Source to a Midi CC
Переглядів 363Рік тому
Anyma Phi - Setting a Control Source to a Midi CC This is very useful to all breath synths to be able to send real time portamento via CC5. EVI's usually use bite for this and EWI's can use bite or touch plate depending on which you have... and so on. Once you do set this... it is a global setting that persists. So all my wind patches in the Anyma Phi will be set to translate CC5 into portament...

    I wish I knew the exact settings you have your QuNexus set to. Is pitch bend set to tilt? It seems more “side to side” for you but for me tilt is “up and down”. I still get expression via tilt when I wiggle notes in this manner but I can’t seem to get the sensitivity dialed in so that I can get proper vibrato. I understand that this prototype is built so that vibrato is done much more naturally but even still I wish I knew the sensitivity settings/sensor setup

    • @marksteiner3493
      @marksteiner3493 9 годин тому

      This approach is just ignoring the side to side and up and down, as I found them lacking in comfortable, reliable control. I'm getting pitch change/vibrato through a physical pot (knob) within one of the wheels on the wagon. That knob basically is telling the analog modular synth to change pitch.

      @@Ancaja123 Thank you! Even tiny modular synths can sound so amazing. I do love the pressure of the QuNexus keys. Here they are making the sound brighter and louder from silent to fully bright. So it really makes the phrasing nice. I love the QuNexus.

    As a brass player (mostly French horn and trumpet) and a longtime synthesist/keyboardist/pianist, this is exactly the kind of controller I've been looking for. I could imagine controlling a deep digital synth with one of these allowing an exceptional level of expression. The Yamaha VL-70m virtual acoustic tone generator (an affordable, stripped-down version of the rare and expensive VL1) comes to mind, as it had a direct input for the WX series of wind controllers. Another interesting synth to control would be the Kawai K5000s, which is additive. You could control the harmonics and the 128-band formant filter via MIDI to add impossible forms of expression.

    • @marksteiner3493
      @marksteiner3493 2 місяці тому

      It really is a wonderful instrument. And I have played those synths with it (not the K5000's -- but similar additive). And formants are MAGIC with this approach. Good stuff! Email me at monkeydrums@hotmail.com if you'd like more info on it. There are also a lot of soft synths and other hard synths that do amazing things with this controller. Thanks!

    I agree that this is the best EWI at this moment, but the pricing of this instrument appears to be unjustifiably high, despite its hand-crafted nature. I am eagerly awaiting the release of a new model by AKAI, hopefully at a more reasonable cost from the mass production.

    Besides hardware access, what's the difference between the CV and MIDI connections? Especially re: expression? (thanks for all these videos!)

    • @marksteiner3493
      @marksteiner3493 9 місяців тому

      Thank you! CV is for control voltage. In this case, it is a pure voltage level from 0 to 5 volts that is never digitized, and thus has the resolution of an acoustic instrument. Midi breath will almost always have 128 steps of resolution. For many things it is not that needed. But for breath it is often seriously better sounding and feeling. And for a tone, it can be the warmed synth tone ever. The Sirin has a pure analogue tone. Vco that makes the sound and the filter that shapes the harmonic content are both pure voltage resolution. Due to that, even midi breath sounds pretty great with the Sirin.

    • @GahlordDewald
      @GahlordDewald 9 місяців тому

      @@marksteiner3493 I finally made it to the front of the queue and I can't decide whether to go MIDI or CV; I use mostly modular synths but probably would use MIDI things too (I have Sirin and also a Deckards). I liked your slew usage on a different video, seems like a nice way to smooth out MIDI steppiness, and your playing always sounds smooth to me. If you had life to live over, which would you prefer?

    Thanks very much for putting the part info for the mouthpiece tubing at the end of the video. I'm waiting patiently on NuEVI waitlist, also gearing up to build my first windsynth (EVI?) and am wondering about what to use for several of the parts. Trying to figure out what they are and where to buy them. I see different kinds of rollers at McMaster Carr, and I heard Nyle say that he uses a "roller combined with a sleeve roller", but I haven't been able to find something that looks the same. Are these rollers also something that can be purchased at McMaster Carr? If so, what are they? And I'm also wondering about key buttons, thinking of just wrapping metal tape around some clothing buttons, but I assume there's somewhere I can buy buttons that are more like those on my Akai EWI? Thanks for the videos, and for any tips.

    This is such inspiring work - thank you for sharing! I have been struggling with my DIY versions, but this 10-turn pot is something I want to try. I have experience with basic modular but I've watched Dana Countryman's videos and I don't understand the Q-125 -- is it attenuating CV that is controlled by rthe pot (to be replacesd with 10 turn)? I have been sending 9v battery through my DIY ribbons (with about 40k resistance) and if I burn them out I'll just replace, but I'm hesitant to put 9v through the 10-turn that is coming in the mail. I would so greatly appreciate any advice! Also... can you tell me why it sounds when you tap on it at the beginning--is that you triggering with breath controller? Cheers! --S

Actually, I'm currently modding an old WX11 to see what works and what doesn't, but then maybe I'll build an EWI from scratch myself. If only NURAD was open-source hardware with easy-to-get components, especially those custom-made mouthpieces and a 3D-printed case.
