Portage from Crowduck Lake to Big Whiteshell Lake, Whiteshell Provincial Park June 2024
This is a quick video (time lapse) of the portage from Crowduck Lake to Big Whiteshell Lake. Fairly easy going, in wet conditions the start of the portage could be muddy with a mix of logs and rocks for traction and at the end of the portage there is a incline that could be very slippery! The video doesn't show the steepness very well but it definitely was slippery especially with the canoe overhead!
Hope this is helpful!

Part 4: May 2023 Solo Canoe Trip, Caddy Lake Loop, Sailing to Caddy Lake

The last Day!! Fun day on the water, fish were biting and managed to catch a couple eaters for a shore lunch which was a great way to end the trip. There was a headwind on Caddy which made for a longer day, but all in all a good paddle. Good amount of boat traffic on this stretch, but I was expecting that. Enjoy the video! Cheers. In this video I make my way from Mantario Lake to my camp on Granite lake - Or so I thought!! Aside from the hundreds of wood ticks, I had an encounter that would change where I camped for the night. I covered a lot of ground, and as grueling as it was I enjoy the challenges and putting my mind and body to the test!! Thanks for watching, enjoy the video! Music by audionautix.com/

Although I had to keep pace I managed to find some time to fish along the way. As I found my campsite for the night I discovered a unexpected guest!! That's backcountry camping for you, always has to be a curve ball thrown at y...

Paddling Season is coming so I thought I better get my remaining videos out in case someone wants to try a new route! It was my first time at Caddy lake and I planned a 4-day counter clockwise loop, and since this portion of the lakes are accessible to motor boats and I heard can be a busy area, I chose to take a 3km portage east to Nora lake to begin my journey and tackle a less busy portion o...

Day 2 of my Fall Solo trip on Gem Lake! On this day I settle into camp, attempt to do some fishing and do a little exploring. The campsite had quite a bit of garbage and spent some time cleaning. Camped at that spot about 25 years ago. Friend had a boat stashed there that I borrowed and at Bird we had a 12' tinner on a homemade trailer that weighed nothing for the quad to pull and a 2hp johnson kicker. Would use it to fish Osis, Birse, Kingston, Maryjane and Ryerson. Lucky back in the day the local logging roads were all still passable. Funny thing is I told my 3 friends I took in there it was a remote location and we didn't see anyone the first day. Second day a huge 17 foot boat with what must have been 8 people roars by. I didn't mention the youth wilderness camp on the lake. lol

    I've never used a separate GPS unit (apart from my İnReach, which I don't use for navigation or tracking) as I use Gaia GPS app on my phone and it serves both of those functions. Is a good app and free if you want to look into it. One less device that needs to be charged/can potentially fail. Though I suppose you are doubly screwed if you lose your phone!

    Another great segment! Thanks so much. Ugh those ticks. What a nuisance. When I did Caddy to Bernard I ran into the same issue trying to find a site on Sailing the first night. There were sites marked on map that just didn't seem to exist. I ended up stealth camping on that sand beach at the far end. It was not ideal but it was past sunset so what can you do? Incidentally there were a few tents on that island where you ended up so I'm sure it must be used pretty regularly! If I NEED to camp at a non designated site I just don't have a fire and otherwise leave no trace of course (as with any other site). I figure no fire no foul? 🤷🏻‍♀️

      @ManitobanOutdoors 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching!! Glad I wasn’t the only one having an issue! I have stealth camped in other places as well, when it’s late there isn’t much you can do. I think it’s fine for those of us who don’t have fires, cut any wood etc… especially in the high traffic areas where it’s a guess of sites are going to be available. Have a good season, hope you get out!!

    I paddled last year June 3-6 through Big Whiteshell loop through crowduck and around to mallard falls and back to little whiteshell to Big Whiteshell. The ticks were the worst I ever experienced. Like you min. 50 ticks one way on a portage… to top it off we got poison ivy as Indian lake is just full of it, no going around it, poison ivy everywhere. Was a fun trip though but I’ll stick to more north eastern routes as the topography is less grass and mud like the whiteshell has. Also lovely pickeral on the first day! And i think I'd need to walk my kayak through that tiny tunnel from Nora? I know your repair kit had crazy glue but I keep it in my first aid kit to seal up fissures on fingers. That and steristrips work great for leaks!

      I have the steristrips too, I am familiar with using glue on cuts but haven’t tried it before. Maybe I’ll give it a go one time! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

    My safety item is chips in case my popcorn gets lost. Also, as a backup I have pretzels in case my backup chips get wet. Safety first.

      Pretzels make you thirsty, I recommend doubling up on chips 😂

    I too have a bought first aid kit....lol I always add polysporin and a shit ton of bandaids. My hands/fingers get too beat up on a two week trip. I like your repair kit, its something I've always neglected to bring. Thanks for the info!

      Yeah always seem to get a few cuts and scrapes on the hands. The repair kit is like the first aid kit, hope to never use it! Every trip I seem to try an bring less clothes and as gear ages it’s a matter of time before I need to repair something.
