Watch my video on the Li-Time 100aH LiFePO4 battery. They cost around $275. I was able to run a 2x8 off of it. You can run that radio for hours off that battery alone (no need to run your engine) with very little voltage drop (LiFePO4 sit higher at around 13.3VDC) and that radio would likely only make it drop to 13.2 or 13.1VDC. Just an idea. Clean install!

Fantastic antenna copper is so easy to work and solder... The corona ball with the drill to sand the edges off is just as i would have to do in my workshop... Proper homebrew..... Hope to catch you on the bands

Just got done with my copper antenna, new style. From base of antenna to bottom coil 24" . 12 turns 1 3/4, used 1 1/2 PVC to make coil. Spacing on coil 1/2 and used 6 gauge solid wire from home Depot. Copper tubing size is 1/2. Used nonmetallic

Your antenna looks great .. i have made few antennas but this would be way beyond me .. this would also make a great home base antenna if mounted up on a 18ft pole … I would have it set for triple nickel .. and spray with plastic coat to keep all dry … very nice job .. great work .. 26uk873

Great job. Looks a bit heavy but i bet it will work amazingly and a great band width tuning capability. If that refrigerator pipe is only copper coated you should lacquer it, if it wares off over time steel alone will cause all sorts of issues, you can test it with a magnet to see. I had a thin kevlar line to the top of my 102" whip, it ran through the rear door of a van, since it's mounted to the roof above the centre of the cab it is pretty high when mounted, the cord is only 2 mm thick but very strong, it runs all the way back up to the front along the inside so if you see trees or low bridges you can pull the whip down to avoid it slamming into them. you can also attach the cord to the front of the vehicle to avoid the whip from bending back while driving. Have done some nice mobile DX on it, the whip is on the ridge of my house right now. I would like to see side by side comparison with long range signal reports vs the other one you made was it 5/8th or 7/8th?

Try powering the radio direct to the battery dont forget to fuse it, ....what kind of range will that antenna get with a stock 20 watt radio i am only getting out maybe 3 miles but can pick up all kinds of skip.. .might be interested in buying one from you.....nice stuff
