Hey guys thanks for the videos!! Quick question what do your warrantees look like for your projects, how long, and what do they tend to cover?
Hey Joseph, thanks for your question. We have a Lifetime Warranty on cabinet painting projects and a Lifetime Touch-Up Promise on interior painting. For exterior, most wood siding / trim is 4 years and aluminum / vinyl is 10. We want to do warranty work as it is a great way to keep in touch with our customers and keep them coming back for more. -Michael
This is how I handle it in Canada. “Get 2 more quotes from any reputable, licensed, insured company and I will match or beat their price”. The best way is to be up front about your pricing. I’m $1.50 per sq ft per coat on most paints.. trims may alter the price.

When you have windows, doors or other items to paint that are in walls, does it automatically make a deduction from the walls? Can you enter the exact dimensions of doors or windows etc?
Great question! We suggest following PCA's Standards of Measurement. Our system does not automatically deduct window/door dimensions and here’s why: If you have a small space, like a door or window, measure the entire wall. It will take your painters just as much or more time to cut around the opening than to include it. But, if you have a space larger than 100 square feet, make sure to deduct that from the total measurement. More details on this here: shorturl.at/NAPjn Hope that helps!

Great show. I wish you guys would have addressed the compensation plan for the first sales rep hire. Salary? Salary + commission? Draw Against Commission? Straight Commission? I struggle with this aspect of making the job appealing to a sales rep without breaking the bank until they are actually selling jobs. If you have another show covering this, can you reply with the show link? If not, can you give, what you have found to be a "best practice" concerning the comp?

Way too technical, not enough emotion? Too many closed ended questions? Yes / No? Who are the Influencers? You know nothing about why they are doing. Where did the lead come from? What if I get out there and find this / that / those? How do you handle that comment? What have other painting companies told you? Be curious not the know it all. If I get out there and it turns from $10k to $18k, how is that going to play out? Are you looking for lowest price? How are you qualifying that in an open ended question?
That's a lot of questions!

Let’s factor furniture moving, laying tarps/ plastic / rosin paper/ tape, removing plate covers/ blinds/ drapes/ hardware/ wall hangers/ screws/ nails/ etc. Then you have drywall repairs, caulking, sanding, priming or spot priming, stain kill, etc. And once all this is done, you can do the easy part (painting).
For sure! We account for additional hours for all that in Step 3 at 5:05. Although you could estimate this first, if you wanted to, as well. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks for the video guys! It's nice to know there are ppl out there trying to improve the painting industry with real logic & methods. Over the last few years I've reluctantly begun working with "other humans" 😂 to pick up more work & make more side money, bc I usually only paint PT & never made a ligit thing out of it. Anyway, I can definitely say that both many workers & owners do not follow your wise logic whatsoever. This seriously continues to blow my mind, whether it be baby boomer guys or guys young enough to be my kid. The boomers love round numbers based on guesstimating & maybe they know with experience. 🤷 The younger ones do love those dumb floor sqft numbers, which make no sense. I played with math on a big house to a tiny house using that logic & one side gets screwed as the numbers shift. So, I have found their logic very frustrating to work with bc those kind of owners & leads tend to get pushy & cut lots of corners or the owner walks away reaping huge profits that make me wanna puke on price gouging poor old ladies. I currently work for guys who don't seem to understand timelines & planning jobs out to keep us painters working, which is prbly my biggest complaint in this industry. Owners often run the show & bark ridiculous ideals & yet have no clue to what is being done or needs to be done properly on a job. In all construction & painting, I do still find lots of sexism against me & other women, especially if I speak up about things like methods, cleaning, proper prep work & rushing "to just get it done". If things pick up more & I can afford to "go ligit", I will consider an app service like this, but there is noooo wayyyyyy I can pay hundreds of dollars a month, when I can barely pay the few bills I have to stay alive & get to my other ligit job that does pay some bills. So again, thanks for sharing & posting usefull stuff. 😇

6-8% Wtf?
It's no wonder you're having problems six weeks to hire is ridiculous. You should have a pipeline of prospects that you can hire inside of 2 weeks easy. Thats the bottleneck.
What about the time it takes for the paint to dry. Sure you can paint the basebords in 1.5 hr . Most paint recommendations say apply second coat in an hour. That would put total time at 3 hours.
What software u recommend?

I was following along pretty well until at the 4:20 point of the video i saw the painter cutting around the outlet cover with his brush. Lol! A pro would remove all outlet covers during the painting process

How is it going. I booked an office space gig with one company last year and they pay a flat rate for standard size/office studio .they provide paint. flow of work is not as consistent but great for me to get my feet wet. I tried to ramp up my work and called other commercial office space company. I introduced my services as a painter and she said they need painters and were interested. She asked me what my numbers were and I wasn't sure what to tell her ,for not want to price myself out of work. So I asked her what her budget was and what they were paying out. She said her average rooms are 9x9s. And they are paying $90 just for paint (no prep work/nail pops/drywall repair). I tried to work out the math and it seems that a 9x9 is 81sq ft. And they are paying 1.11 per sq footage of room (not walls)- another question in itself - Should I charge on wall square footage or room square footage. Then she proceeded to ask me my numbers for prep work such as nails pops for drywall repair. and said she would follow up to ask me my numbers. Seeing as how they already seem to be on tight budget as they are a small company.I have no estimating system for prep work or just random regular nail holes that are scattered and can't find how to price that for her when she follows up. What do you suggest, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Great questions! Understanding how to accurately and fairly price jobs can be one of the toughest parts of running a painting business. There are many different ways that you can price jobs, but we believe the most accurate and reliable method to be Time-Based Estimation - in painting, we’re selling TIME, so we should be pricing that way accordingly. We have tons of resources regarding this type of estimation, which you can find at paintscout.com, or by booking a demo with us and chatting with one of our team members! (ow.ly/7eKN50MPQgx) Time-based estimation can definitely be used to calculate your prices for prep work! You’ll be able to break down how long prep has taken you in the past, and apply it when pricing future jobs (for example, X amount of hours per drywall patch). When you come across jobs that require more prep work than usual, you’ll be able to adjust your price accordingly. In terms of floor sqft vs. wall sqft for painting walls, we believe going based on wall square footage is more helpful. Here’s why: Let’s compare a 1000 sqft warehouse, to a 1000 sqft office building. The office building will most likely have dozens of walls, while the warehouse may only have four walls, and yet, their floor square footage is the same. It would take you MUCH longer and a lot more materials to paint the office building.
