1951 DeSoto - No other car rides like a DeSoto!
Wow!
The 1954 was some hot car. The 1955 and 1956 were even MORE STUNNING for that era ! The 1957 out did all other cars for futuristic design. Doing it all WITHOUT FINS !
Thanks for posting. I remember seeing them new in the showroom. Loved those cars. 1:03 1:03
i ONCE HAD A 1955 AND A 1956. THE 1955 WAS MY FIRST CAR IN 1966! IT WAS OUR FAMILY CAR, PASSED DOWN TO ME. LOTS OF GREAT MEMORIES
Not my favorite year Oldsmobile but it sure beats the generic garbage that is sold today.
My Dad owned one as our family car, Great memories of better times gone by, The Dash board was lit with purple and blue lights , The valour interior, design and so spacious, 8 people would fit in it ♥️🇺🇸🇺🇸♥️👍‼️
My uncle (Dad's brother) loved Oldsmobiles. His first car was a 1955, and always owned Oldsmobiles till the day he died.
I grew up with a USED '50 DeSoto Custom! These were QUALITY cars! They ran (simple Chrysler "flathead 6" and semi-automatic transmissions FOREVER (250,000+ miles) and WERE BUILT OF IRON AND METAL! I would trade 100 of these pieces of "high-tech" CRAP for ONE OF THESE REAL VEHICLES!
GREAT SELLING! These cars were VERY GOOD! The older Chrysler products were BETTER!
In '69, my dad bought a '54 Chrysler Windsor Deluxe with the "Powerflite" and power steering! As a $55 (used) car, it was GOOD, but the "Fluid Drive" variations were MUCH SUPERIOR!
My second car was a $28 '56 Mercury Custom convertible! The top (shot, but also NO rising mechanism) was permanently "retracted"! This car had QUALITY seat belts and AN AWESOME "padded dash" to boot! These were TRULY "LIFEGUARD DESIGNS"!
Back "in the day these SIMPLE, WELL-BUILT cars could be MOSTLY serviced "AT HOME" by anyone with an I.Q. of 20! CARS WERE NOT PURCHASED WITH "JAPANESE BRANDS" EITHER! People were SMARTER!
In my opinion, the BEST car EVER MADE! QUALITY, SAFETY, STYLE! These cars were AWESOME!
With the hemi and power steering, these were great, but I PREFER the '50 DeSoto that was TRULY GREAT!
The '50 had a MUCH BETTER "look"! Otherwise, these were the SAME, BUT GREAT CARS!
The grille was UGLY, but the car was UNCHANGED (unless "Firedome") from '50! A GREAT CAR!
I grew up with this car! My dad bought a used '50 DeSoto in '59! These were TRULY GREAT CARS!
What if I like the tobacco smoke?
In September '63, I rode in a $300 '57 DeSoto Firedome! My dad wanted "something else"! In '65, he purchased a "new" Buick Special! This was a HORRID CHOICE!
I grew up with a '50 DeSoto! My first car ($15!) was a '51 Dodge Coronet! GREAT CARS!
That looks like a '54 DeSoto - My mother owned one, from 1961 - 63.Both years look very similar..

Love the 1954 Mercury Monterey! Of the three years this body style was offered, 1952-1954, the 1954 is the most beautiful styling, with the excellent front chrome bumper-grille assembly and large red tail lights. Ten times more attractive to me than a comparable 1954 Ford, which shared the same body shell. And then there is the amazing 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley 2-door hardtop with the clear tinted roof. Awesome! Far better looking than the equivalent 1954 Ford Victoria Skyliner. Another plus is this is the first year of the Mercury overhead valve Y-block V8 engine, coupled with the Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission, this one was a style leader and real winner for car buyers in 1953-54.
If there was a prettier 1950s car than the 56 DeSoto, I’d have to be shown it. Virgil Exner really had it going!
The 'de-lovely' comment at the end pays homage to the background music "De-Lovely," written by Cole Porter.
I was 1 years old in 1956, and my parents had a dud '53 Chevrolet that was an ice box in the winter and a no exceleration putz..
Eleven years after this commercial was made, Florence Henderson became Mrs Carol Brady. 😊😊
I am sold on the 54 Dodge, but I will visit the Lincoln Mercury dealer.
GM had 12 volts in 1953 on Cadillac and 12 volts on the rest of the GM line in 1955.
12 Volts at least in Oldsmobiles, in 1954 (I rebuilt one)
@@gladtobeopenminded Thank you, for the update Peter.
Dealer Service took my money for 30 years. Then I switched to Honda And Toyota and private repair centers that do not rip me off. GM & FORD goodby.
All that was missing were the hot dogs and apple pie
Very cool. But that’s not a 53 DeSoto. It’s a 54.
That was one beautiful car
Very cute
Maybe NOT "cute", but this was a great car!
@@johnmaki3046 I don't think he was talking about the car
"well no matter what mercury model appeals to you most, the smart thing to do is to be from missouri for a half hour or so" 1954 mercury commerical what what the fuck do they mean by this??? ive been laughing at this for like a half hour or so
"I'm from Missouri. You have to show me." Point is they were trying to get you to see what Mercury could do--with a test drive, of course
@@gcfifthgear OHHH, that statement makes a lot more sense now, see ive never heard that expressing having grown up much later than this commercial.
Just discovered this gem 💎. Learned to drive in a 55 black Firedome and love ❤ DeSoto, especially through final 61s. So sad 😥 Chrysler pulled the plug! At least DeSoto went out with FINS soaring high and OTT chrome and was scared PLUCKED CHICKEN looks of 62 Dodge and Plymouth! ! 😉
I had a 54 Merc with Merc-O-Matic tranny in 72.
i'll take TWO please! LOVE these cars!
That was Ed Sullivan as the spokesman.
OK OK I"ll take one!!
And it's going to be a really big shew.
Friend of mine had one. He lowered it. How did you do that? He said I put had 4 cinder blocks in the trunk.
Just bought one of these for my second car, they're truly beautiful
Yup 58 was a one year car then ofc 59 with the fins
Not only the cars, but commercials have really changed
Ed Sullivision !
LOVE IT!
"Beauville" sounds like a model they would produce and sell in Canada.
It was Chevy's way of identifying the nine-passenger station wagon. Two-door, six-passenger models (except the Nomad, of course) were called "Handyman," and four-door six-passenger models were called "Townsman."
Loved the Desoto's.
good old times
