Hi Honey Badger, I like your channel. I'll sub to that. I make spatulas from new Lodge seconds from the plant. These skillets go through a lot from cutting, grinding, and buffing, but they always take seasoning. Why? I've heard and seen heat damaged pieces but how can I repair a spinner without heat damage? They have to be red hot to bend without breaking but none have heat damage or seasoning problems. How can the iron be melted to form the piece without heat damage? I wish I had the answers. They say never use stainless steel anodes in your e-tank but myself and others do with no problems. My charger delivers up to 38 amps with my barrel/tank lined with stainless sheet metal. A lot of times it will run for a week at a time. I've used it like this for two years because stainless anodes are easy to clean. Dirty anodes leads to a slow cleaning tank. My tank holds 35 gallons and the water also gets old. This will also lead to slower productivity. I restore for two estate sale companies to enable my edition so I have to produce on a schedule. Would running a piece that won't take seasoning in electrolysis clean out the iron enough for it to season? If it was wire brushed the metal from the brush could be in the iron.

Thanks for your comment, I've read that stainless steel anodes produce hexavalent chromium that's very toxic in the disposed water , but I have heard it depends on the grade of the stainless steel, I'm not sure about it I use rebar and super washing soda in my tank and use the top 90% of the discard to water my grass. The greasy bottom 10% I put on the poison ivy on my fence line, But to address repairing a spinner using high heat to bend it back Ive never seen it work because of cast iron being so brittle.I think it's great you're making spatulas in my opinion responsibly. I have a couple badly warped and cracked pieces that would be great spatulas. Thanks for tuning in and please leave more comments

@@honeyj.badger5484 Repairing the spinners has been a learning process. The cool down process was where I was cracking skillets. Try to picture this, for a clamp to flatten the bottom I used two pieces of aluminum channel 4"wide x19" long with 1 1'2" holes drilled every few inches for access and two 1/2" bolts in each end. If the piece has a heat ring I'll use a 2" washer to compensate for the heat ring. Get the piece between the two channels with the flat sides touching the piece and firm it up but only firm. Here is the magic, set it upside down over a turkey cooker to get hot. When it's hot turn it over while still on the turkey cooker and heat the bulged area from the cooking surface with a torch while keeping the clamp firm. The iron will get red but it has to. With the bulge flattened the tricky part is the cool down. Leave it in the clamp and turn it back upside down with the turkey cooker still on for a good 5 minutes or more. Turn off the cooker and cover the piece in a fire blanket $25 at Harbor Freight. This allows it to cool even slower. I'd say there are better ways but this was what I came up with. I've worked with metals since 1980, I couldn't comprehend how something that could happen in a kitchen that I couldn't repair in a shop. I was an oldster on a mission! Another idea I'm toying with is hanging a piece in a simple pillowcase to act as a coffee filter containing the skillet crud. The electricity flows through the pillowcase like it wasn't there. Every few pieces I'd dump the pillowcase. Now my wife made some tank liners from bed sheets that I currently use. I zip tied a pool noodle to the top to keep it afloat. There will still be deposits from the anodes in the tank. As for the toxic Arm & Hammer waste water with stainless anodes I don't notice a taste difference but I'm no expert. 😁 I've been told it gave off a flammable gas and possibly if I could build an airtight top over the 35 gallon tank with a pin hole in the cover I might produce a small blue flame. Thanks for sharing your hobby. I enjoy this old history.

@@honeyj.badger5484 I've got to learn to do that. My wife is retiring in September and I'll have adult supervision. She's the smart one. It sounds more complicated than it is. I went into detail trying to simplify things. Really you could sum it up like this, you need some form of clamp to add pressure to the warped area and a straight edge to gauge by. Put it upside down over a high heat source and allow to get hot. I' use what is called a rosebud torch tip to heat the warp and surrounding area but I'm going to step it down to a home owner type propane torch if it will get hot enough? I would like to see this become easy and cheap for everyone. With the warp repaired turn the piece back upside down over the heat source so it can become the same temperature. When you think that has happened turn the heat off and cover with the blanket and cool slowly. When I was learning this process I noticed if a skillet is basically worthless it almost never cracked but the more valuable ones, watch out. People say "that sounds like a lot of work" but it was a challenge that people say can't be done. It's too simple not to be able to do it. My favorite was some guy with a hammer going to drive the warp away. He covered it with a towel so it wouldn't scratch it. He was right, one whack with the hammer and his warping problem was gone. Real men of genius! lol What makes this even funnier he downloaded it on YT.

Another pan that I was blessed to find is the BSR 7L large corn stick pan. This pan was produced from 1934 to 1942 at the start of WWII. When production resumed following the war this pan wasn't produced. The 7S is everywhere but this was the first 7L I've seen and it was $8 at an estate sale. It was obvious what it was from the pictures but no one came to get it. If you haven't made brownies in a corn stick pan you haven't lived. You're welcome !
