The Wood Room (Cover) by Mike Dawes
Hey guys here is my bad cover of a tune by Mike Dawes who is an awesome acoustic guitarist, one man band kinda guy. @mikedawesofficial plays some awesome fingerstyle stuff, and this is one I can kinda play in a fashion, although it took me all day to get it all the loop correctly in one take using a looper pedal.

This is a second hand telescope I purchased some time ago that I use mainly for visual. I tried to keep the cost low with this and have a budget focuser, electronic focuser and field flattener. In this video we'll put it all together and in part two we'll look at how it performs. Waltzing Matilda (Slow)

I recently downloaded @tommyemmanuel arrangement and have been trying to learn some sections. I cannot really play with speed so this is my more mellowed down simple version. Here's a little of the history of the tune: 'Waltzing Matilda', a poem by Banjo Paterson, was first recorded 30 years after it was written in 1895. The melody of the song is attributed to Christina Macpherson, whose family...

Zwo 294mm in mode 2 has a pixel size of just under 5. It works and is not oversampled
Can that system be used on a Canon EF 70-200? Just wondering about the dimensions for my Canon R with the EF lens
Thank you for your interesting thoughts and suggestions. I have an S30 on pre-order and I do ask myself “why”. I believe that, for me, it is about complementing the visual experience with a little device that points at the sky and says “this amazing thing is right up there… let’s compare with what you can see through your optics.“. The challenge of taking a perfect image is not a driver for me, though it may be for others. From this one noob’s perspective, it’s more about enriching the experience of being out under the night sky.
I recently got a redcat setup and now am looking at celestron's lol. But when I built my rig I got a 678MM for a guide scope hoping I can use it for planetary when I get a SCT. I need filters and shopping around on a good planetary scope. I'm leaning towards an Edge HD 8. I can not find much information on the 678. I might just have to test it out on some B+W DSO
This is cool, and some very nice guitar playing. I am finding that many musicians (especially guitar players) are into Astronomy.... I am one of them. Beautiful!
Hey thanks Jim, yes absolutely pal I think it's a high ratio. Also, classical music goes so well with the epic skies !
@@OlliesSpace you are a Brother from another mother! Thanks and I am so happy to meet others that are in this same groove...All good!
I skimmed this and will re watch when I have time. I just started back into Astronomy and am planning on Visual only. This has some great info, and I appreciate the discussion.
Hey Jim, thanks again. Visual is a great way to relax. Hopefully, I can do another of these with Marcel.
@@OlliesSpace This was awesome. Would love to cross paths and chat at some point. I have Loved looking up forever and completely relate to the mode you are in with visual! Thank you Ollie!
How is the eq6 handling the 9.25 sct?
@wrangler0829 Hey there. It could handle it pretty well but I've since moved onto a iOptron CEM60 which handles it better. I was losing too many exposures on the eq6. I think it's pushing it. For visual its fine.
@@OlliesSpace @OlliesSpace I'm getting ready to snag my first sct in the same size as yours and I know my avx will not handle it that well. I will take a look at the cem70 since the 60 is discontinued. Thanks!
@wrangler0829 I think the CEM70 would be a great match, it's a great sct size. Enjoy 👍
Very interesting Ollie, I look forward to seeing how you get on with this scope.
Thanks pal. Me too but we're currently stuck in never ending clouds.
Great discussion Ollie! Thanks for sharing your journey with us. I've been in the hobby for 10+ years now and I always keep a dobsonian for visual astronomy along with small refractor for astrophotography. Now listening to Marcel i'm thinking of replacing the dobsonian with a 5 inch refractor, a 12 inch dobsonian is too big for me 🙂 I do lug it around with me to dark skies and it does give amazing views, but I find myself making excuses to not use it. And for astrophotography you're absolutely right it's not really soothing on the nerves 😛
@ziggyfrnds Cheers ziggy 👍 I keep holding thinking of getting a dob, but I've too many scopes. I must admit my little 80mm refractor gets used the most.
Excellent…just subscribed…👍🏻
@@Astro_Shed thanks!
I'd just like to add that I bought the Gemini focuser recently and it is excellent running under NINA. Performs as well as the ZWO offering at 1/3 of the price. I'd never buy another ZWO EAF.
I am very impressed by your images especially on M77 and NGC 1055, what's the exposure on this image?
@matforsbon Normally broadband I don't go above 3 mins whilst narrowband I might go up to 7min subs. I'm Bortle 5/6 Here. Occasionally I do 10min subs.
@@OlliesSpace OK! Thanks.
I purchased the this same scope for Astrophotography about 2 years ago. I get great results. Mine rides on a Celestron AVX mount. I am using a ZWO ASI533MC Pro camera with a .85x Reducer. I have a mini PC attached where I use PHD2 and NINA. A Pegasus Mini PowerBox supplies power and Dew Control. I add the ZWO Auto-Focuser earlier this year.
Sounds like a good setup. Did you get a new focusser for your ED80 ?
3 notes... Reminds me of the TV series Humans. Is it just me?
Look forward to seeing the results mate, I wish you could get a rack & pinion focuser for these scopes though as the stock one isn't the best. In saying that I use a generic 0.8 reducer with mine & a mask to focus with as you can just lock it off afterwards & they do perform pretty well.
Looks like a great budget setup and I'm particularly looking forward to see how it performs. A setup like that would be great to get someone taken by the astro bug without necessarily breaking the bank. Here's hoping you get some clear skies soon to give a whirl. Clear skies.
Hey Logan - I've had these bits sitting around for months now so good to give them a test. Agreed, if this works OK would be a good starter. My only concern so far is I'm not sure the focusser could handle a heavy Mono setuo on it.
Hi. This telescope is highly capable for imaging. It's been 4 years since I'm using it and no one has been able to say that my images are of poor quality vs images from an APO.
Of the couple of tests I've done so far, I tend to agree. I've been impressed with how well corrected it seems.
@OlliesSpace I don't have a field flattener for the time being, but yeah, it's an end of year gift to be. These devices are bloody expensive. The performance of ED telescopes are often underestimated
Nice cheap set-up Ollie, will be interesting to see how it turns out
Thanks Tony

CONGRATULATIONS OLLIE GR8 WORK BUDDY! MAY YOU CONTINUE TO SHOOT, PLAY AND CREATE THESE STUNNING MUSICAL VIDEOS FOR THE WORLD TO DELIGHT. PEACE TO YOU AND WISHING YOU CLEAR SKIES!
The ED80 was my first scope. Still use it from time to time. It's really good, and the stock focuser stays in focus on mine better than my other scope!
Cheers Damien, ye I actually would have left the stock one on, but no way to fit an EAF.
New definition of "on budget" 😁 how much is the whole setup you show including the mount ???😉
Ye it's always relative with astrophotography. At a push you could possibly mount this on a AzGti which are quite reasonable entry level.
Interesting setup Ollie, that Ali Express does has some cheap gear! Let’s hope it lives up to it, looking forward to the test mate👍 Clear skies!
Hey Simon ye I've bought a few items from there. I guess with returns it could be tricky. Clear skies.
Can't wait to see what you get with it Ollie....Great Video as always my friend......
Cheers Pal, yep will be interesting to see what this one can do.
looking forward to the results, I had the Orion version never really happy with the crayford focuser however
Thanks Nik yep I'll be interested to see how it performs. I'm not sure I could hang a heavy load off this.
Ollie, email your seller that you got the EAF from as there is a newer model that's better and can choose 3 steps left-right and slow and fast speeds, they will send to you a no cost... Yes those sellers sell the Gemini EAF in a few choices, EAF no Temp sensor and EAF with remote, and the full kit, EAF-remote and Temp sensor...
Thanks Ollie, I appreciate you posting another video for me to feast on when at work. Incidentally, what are your thoughts on Sky Rover refractors. I noticed one on your bench in a previous presentation. Best wishes, Annika 👍👍
Hey no worries Annika. My Skyrover 80 was a good scope. Only gripe was the reducer/flattener never corrected out to the edges which for a $500 reducer was disappointing. Thanks and clear skies :)
@@OlliesSpace Cheers Ollie, I appreciate your reply particularly where you responded to my enquiry regarding Sky Rover telescopes. I have just paid $6400 for a SR130 Reference Super APO Refractor from Astronomy Alive so it had better fucken work! Luckily I bought it at the old price but it now retails for $10,000! I guess it is currently on sale for a reason because I am not sure anyone would consider it at $12,000! I am brand new to Astronomy and quite simply I cannot wait to utilise my new toy to "observe" the universe with. I am much more excited about this aspect then I am about "photography" at this point. I am certain AP will form a significant chapter of my astronomy journey at a later date but for the interim period, I am happy to "crawl before I walk". Jupiter, Saturn, Andromeda, Pleiades and M42 have me bursting with enthusiasm about my new hobbie. Ollie, I must admit I have found the initial outlay to be quite an expense! I enjoyed your video with Marcel from Astro Dog (oddly named business) and have taken a keen interest in Masuyama eyepieces. Last week, he started offering the Japanese brand's 1.5x Barlow lens which I will definitely purchase in the new year. I think it would really compliment my arsenal which will also include Tele Vue's 2x Powermate. My eyepieces include; Celestron Luminos 7mm Celestron Luminos 10mm Celestron Luminos 15mm Celestron Luminos 23mm Takahashi TOE 3.3mm Explore Scientific 6.5mm 52° Explore Scientific 4.5mm 52° Tele Vue Panoptic 24mm Tele Vue Delos 10mm Tele Vue Ethos 13mm Tele Vue Delite 3mm Saxon Cielo 2.3mm Pentax XW 40mm ** At a later stage, I will definitely add a full set of Masuyama EP's along with a full suite of Baader Morpheus EP's. Due to portability advantages, I am seriously considering the Skywatcher Wave 150i Harmonic Drive mount. I would certainly enjoy travelling with my pride and joy in terms of visual astronomy when on vacation. I will invest in a dedicated AP camera from ZWO towards end of 2025 or into 2026. At this point, I thought the ASI2600MC Duo is an excellent option for a beginner but I am certain by the time I am ready to invest there will be a new chip being offered in a new camera with upgraded tech. Please advise if you believe I should consider a different mount. Initially, I was interested in both SW A-Z EQ6 GT and iOptron CEM70 but my attention has since moved to a portable offering instead. Many thanks for your extraordinary contributions to the Astro world! Take care Ollie Annika 🔮🍹🔭🌍
Very good discussion. Thanks. I have a hard time finding UA-cam videos that delve into visual astronomy.
@genefoster8936 Thanks Gene yes there's not much. I'm hoping to do another of these.
Given you comments why don't they make an f/10 8" dobsonian as a standard in commercial?

Good video! I have a question. I know the central obstruction in any mirror telescope results in a certain contrast loss compared to a refractor. I have a Skywatcher 90 mak. And while the sharpness is very good even at high magnification I am not satisfied with the contrast. But in this case I am sure it's mainly because of too reflective inside of the tube. I read about improving contrast of mak 90 by adding matt paint on the inner wall. I find it sad that Skywatcher have not made this as standard. I do not believe it could be more than + $100 extra cost for that, which definitely would be worth it. Therefore I wonder: is the 127 mak treated with some matt black finish on the inside?
