Using 2 trolling motors in fast current at Morgan Falls Dam
Переглядів 6 тис.8 років тому
I launched my Hobie Outback in fast current in the Chattahoochee River. I used 2 trolling motors to try to get upstream to the dam. After about 8 minutes I only made it 100 yards or so upstream. I tried moving to the edge out of the main current but I hit bottom knocking one of my motors off. I'm using a Watersnake T-24 trolling motor mounted in the Mirage Drive well and a Minn-Kota Endura C2 3...

DIY dual-mode bait tank for kayak
Переглядів 17 тис.8 років тому
My DIY bait tank. It can recirculate water from within the tank or pump water from the lake into the tank. I used cross-stitch screen to round off the corners to help prevent the bait from staying in the corners of the tank and being injured. This cooler fits snugly in the rear of my Hobie Outback kayak. I created this video with the UA-cam Video Editor (ua-cam.com/users/editor)

    The first 2 water crossings for reference you mention your running boards. Is your jeep stock height and tires or lifted and oversized tires? I'm planning to run the route by motorcycle.

    Hi there, Quick question. If using a PWM sped controller, the blue internal coil winding could be removed ? Reason for asking is after dismantling the motor to check brushes and replace the wiring within the tube I have half pulled the blue copper from the internal coil which is connected to the negative brush. 😬

    Well done! Do you have to prime it to draw water from the lake if the cooler is empty while at the lake? Or do you have to put lake water in the cooler first allowing the pump to draw water from the lake?

    • @patrickedout4571
      @patrickedout4571 3 роки тому

      You must fill the cooler to prime the pump before it will draw from the lake. Thanks!

    How did you connect the pump to the 3/4" PVC tee fitting?

    • @patrickedout4571
      @patrickedout4571 5 років тому

      That side of the tee is threaded. The pump just threads into it.

      I didn't buy it as a kit. The pump came from Bass Pro Shops, the white PVC pipe came from Lowes, and the black bulkhead and fittings came from an aquarium supply. I'll try to make a list up and post it later this evening if I get a chance.

    What's your speed and how long did your battery last?

    • @patrickedout4571
      @patrickedout4571 7 років тому

      According to the GPS, top speed is about 3.5 mph on flat water. This day was about 2.5 mph with choppy water. I've never depleted my batteries so I don't know the max duration. The most I've done is 6 miles and the batteries did seem to be weak when I finished. I've trolled for 12 hours off/on at low speed and the batteries were still going strong. I use 4x 12ah SLA batteries wired in parallel.

      PaTricked Out Im sure alot of hobie owners would appreciate if u did that, I'm also planning to modify the watersnake onto the mirage drive. I don't know if I'm gonna go the remote route or take off the head completely and modify the same way u did, your video helps a lot, keep up the good work and happy fishing.

    Looks like someone got a new sonar unit for Xmas. Has the side scan capability helped to narrow down the parts of the lake where the stripers are at ? Nice catch!

    • @patrickedout4571

      The side scan on the Garmin was great for locating schools of baitfish. Didn't really help with the Stripers themselves. The Garmin is much better than my Helix 5 SI!

    What gauge wire did you use? 8?

    • @patrickedout4571
      @patrickedout4571 8 років тому

      #10 AWG wire is rated for 30 amps so is adequate for the lengths I use with a T24 lb trolling motor. If you have a larger trolling motor or long runs, I would recommend #8 AWG. Be sure to protect the wire with the proper rated circuit breaker.

    • @karinaustin3156
      @karinaustin3156 8 років тому

      Thanks! I put 8 gauge on with my T24 Watersnake and it seems to be working great! Also put a 40 AMP circuit breaker on it. Now I just have to figure out how much travel time I have on the battery!
