You really want to see ribs done correctly go watch Malcolm Reed
Agreed.
Every time I need to make ribs I come back to this video. They come out absolutely perfect, hasn't failed yet! They just had competition rib weekend down here and dare I say they're nearly as good at home.
Whoohoo! That's what I want to hear! I'm glad you're enjoying the ribs.
Sweet
Thanks for watching!
not a single one of these videos show u the finished product.guess there is a reason for that. make it make sense ? 20 minutes video without showing the main point in detail. i just cant....
Did you not watch until the end? I cooked pizza in it...
@@grubbyssmokeshack how am i supposed to know how it turned out, no close up, no bottom, no slicing. You just took the pizza out and thats it. 😄
Looks great!!
Thank you!
Question- I am considering using this unit in a camper van and powering it at least some with battery power. Do you know how much power this draws in the lowest setting (low fan etc)? I know it draws 1500watts at max
I don't but I think that info should be on their website. Be sure to use my coupon code to save a little money, it should still be active.
So did you have to remove the bumper to take out headlights?
It's been so long now I can't even remember. I may have removed it to put the lip on.
Please drop the background "music". It's simply annoying, adds nothing and makes what I'm sure would have been an informative video unwatchable. Couldn't last more than 2 minutes, sorry.
Can't win them all.
I'll try again sometime. Severe tinnitus makes it difficult to discriminate spoken words when there's background noise or music. Some days it's not so bad.
when will 2.0 update video be out
Well, I ended finding a Gozney Dome at a liquidation store and I don't think I can cobble together anything that will cook nearly as good as the Dome. It's amazing.
Nice design, good job, lovely doggy
Ahh thanks! I appreciate that.
These drums used to be stronger. Now optimised.
Pretty easy to work with these days.
When general contractors do automotive work....
A year and 25k miles later it's still working perfectly. Not much automotive knowledge necessary for this one, big dog.
@@grubbyssmokeshack Any thing works, for a while. Will be interested in seeing the 3yr rust review and warped roof review.
I finished the cut edges like I did in all the other holes I cut for the windows. The roof is beefed up a little more in that spot compared to the rear. I'm sure it'll be fine. I see these vans with a huge AC on the roof for meds or whatever they're delivering so I'm sure it'll be fine.
Great content
Hey thanks! I appreciate that!
The exhaust extension you mention, would that happen to be for the 4 door? Hopefully!
Maybe or maybe previous years had a different length catalytic converter? I can't remember, it's been a few years now. Confirm with them before ordering.
I don't cook anything in foil because it leaches into your food and is cancerous. There are no videos of people bbqing ribs without using foil 😭
There's tons of no wrap rib vids out there.
Hey Craig, I just subscribed based on this video. I'm really looking forward to the V2.0 video. Do you have an ETA on that? Thanks.
I appreciate it but I got a Gozney Dome and it's so good I'll probably put this one up for sale as is. I haven't had much time or motivation to finish it, I have all the stuff here.
@@grubbyssmokeshack Understood, brother. I recently got an Ooni Koda, but am also looking into something I could DIY for a larger wood-fired pizza experience.
@@davidrl41 my plan was to fill the void in the bottom with a mix of Perlite and cement and line the top with fire brick, and add a stove pipe to improve the draw. It's add weight so I was going to put it on wheels. I think it'd cook great after that.
Thanks for video🎉
Thanks for watching!
Teardrops are cute, but this is a million times better, lol
Can confirm!
Thanks for the nice video! I have a question . dose it has any insulation?
Thanks! The material they use is a 3/4 inch corrugated poly board so it has a little air gap. Condensation is common on the inside if the indoor outdoor temps are a lot different.
Great info thanks
Thanks for watching!
Dropping just one of those nuts into the bottom of the barrel would piss me off so bad 😆
Did you wire this into a panel with breakers or just plug it in??
It's wired for shore power, which has a breaker usually. I've yet to see one that didn't have a breaker.
Nailed it 👌
Agreed. It was fantastic.
Howdy, just came across this vid. Very interested in building one of these myself. Did you ever do any modifications? Or has it been working good as is?
Thanks for watching. I haven't touched it. I bought some fire bricks and some stuff to insulate it with but then we got a van and I built it out and started a new job and about a month ago I got a Gozney Dome that's amazing so now I don't know if I'll mess with this oven anymore.
I love your little trailer. I didn't see any outdoor kitchen though. But I did love all the room inside. Not a bad place for your little refrigerator with a section you could use for ice cream. I'm one person and I could totally rock this out. I'm not ready to buy so in the meantime I'm just biding my time untill the right I come across.
We don't cook much when we travel, usually just picnic type stuff out of the back of the car. We usually just eat out.
Hi! Is there any reason you did the t vent window for the wall, but not for the sliding door? I am doing one window and I chose the t vent for the sliding door- just wondering if there is a reason I shouldn’t use that type of window for the sliding door
We didn't initially plan on doing a window in the door at all. After we put the window behind the driver seat and noticed what a huge difference it made when driving we decided to add one to the door but didn't want to spend the money on the T vent window there, plus I thought it might add weight and make the door more difficult to close.
I wanna play with the dogggggg..
She'll let you rub her tummy.
@@grubbyssmokeshack Way cool build.. I'm not 100% certain you need all of the insulation a ton of stone and concrete provide.. I think all that does is make it so you need less wood / fuel in the fire.. The pizza you made in the end of the vid proves that, looks fantastic.. Maybe without all of that insulation and a bigger fire you are forced to babysit the pizza while it's cooking a bit more, big deal.. My wife and I want a dog really bad,, it just doesn't fit for us right now.. I love the dog breaking your chops to play while you're trying to work..
@@1badhawk the firebrick, once heat soaked will produced radiant heat. That's much better to cook pizza with. I'm not sure if I'm going to mess with this oven anymore, I recently got an insane deal on a Gozney Dome and I love it so I may scrap this one. Dogs are the best but yeah, they don't fit everyone's lifestyle.
Can we have links for the parts please
They're in the description.
😂😂😂😂
Thanks for watching!
You lost me at "Materbuit".
Haha. I sold it and got an offset. I need to make some new vids...
@@grubbyssmokeshack why
Would you happen to know which extended rack to get for the 1050 model?
Nope. I never had that one. To find this one I just took measurements and searched for a cooling rack in that size.
Great video... music was so incredibly unnecessary at that volume 😂
Haha, sorry! Everyone listens on different devices so it's SO hard to figure out where to put the levels. Thanks for watching!
I understand there are no water tanks in here, just to ask, is there a receptacle for your portable battery, to power up your devices, like a 30amp shore power service for this? I am interested in this, for my hiking alone in the forest...
It does have shore power but it's a standard 15amp household electrical cord outlet, not 30amp. It powers the air conditioner and two power strips inside, it comes like that from the factory.
@@grubbyssmokeshack Thanks for the headsup
Is this a 2023 model? How is holding up after all this time? All alright?
I think it was a 21 or 22. We sold it last year to get a van.
@@grubbyssmokeshack but you did love it when it was still with you correct? Was planning to get this or a Smittybilt scout trailer or a Clipper 12.0TD MAX, thus the question. Am planning to do solo hiking every 2 months in the forests...
Was smoke temperature ever mentioned..
It's been a while, I can't remember if we said it on screen. It's in the description, 250.
Neat ideas! I have been looking into a Runaway Rouser...same floor space/footprint, but tall enough to stand in. But your set up does spark a lot of ideas!
We considered a Rouser! We ended up selling the camper and getting a van we can stand in instead. Enjoy your camping!
Just did your recipe with 2 baby back rib stacks on my 560. Yum! Everyone loved them! Thank you.

Great video we are pretty invested in the tiny camper world but you never know what the future holds.
Thanks for watching! We enjoyed our Runaway but our van trips have been great so far and having the bikes locked up inside is a huge plus.
Really cool idea. 2 things to consider for 2.0. Angle irons (use an old bed frame if you have one) as a frame for your grate. Also, it might be good to have the fire underneath the pizza stone instead of next to it so that you get some conductive heat to crisp up the bottom of the crust. I think you should still get more than enough convective heat coming over the top to get the rest of the job done.
I tried a fire underneath and it doesn't cook the top enough. It actually works better with the fire beside it. This is why I put the chimney over the cooking area, so it'd pull the heat over the top before it escapes.
@@grubbyssmokeshack wow I'm surprised that the chimney doesn't draw heat from below, right over it kind of like a reverse flow offset smoker works
@@tdtommy196 it'll draw it up but the stone blocks it from hitting the top of the pizza. It just goes around it and out. When it's beside the pizza it goes across the top and out. It needs refraction to bounce heat downward, that'll be addressed in V2.0
@@grubbyssmokeshack ahh ok that makes sense!
Dries them, then uses a binder 🙄
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the goo that comes in the packaging.
Did you drain off some of the accumulated juices? It looks like you did sometime between starting pulling it and finishing, or does some of it reabsorb?
No, I didn't drain it. When I'm pulling it it all gets mixed back in so there's not a puddle in the bottom. My wife prefers it without the braising liquid so feel free to leave it out, if you wrap it around 165 internal it'll still have enough water inside to steam it and moisten the bark back up. It's great both ways.
The only thing I do differently is I place a 2"X6" under each of the stabilizer jacks. better base for the small foot pads, a little more reach, helps keep gravel and dirt out of the jacks and often makes it easier to release the jacks. Good video for beginners thanks.
That's a really good idea, thanks for sharing!
He's seriously selling everything you see in the video
Yep. If I don't include links, guess what the comments will be filled with?
are you able to get to 800 F?
With a big enough fire. The stone got hot enough it just doesn't retain or radiate heat like you'd want from a brick oven.
@@grubbyssmokeshack I like the idea of a barrel oven. I think I'd want to line it with brick/mortar
@@JT-91 I have it sitting in my shop, I just haven't had time to mess with it yet.
Take the metal you cut off of the rectangular hole where the pizza goes in and hinge it to make a door so you keep more heat in the barrel. Either hinge from top or bottom.
Great minds think alike. I held onto it to do exactly that.
I did see how much charcoal and wood chunks you used
A full hopper got me around 12 hours, so half full is probably good enough for ribs.
