Pepper Varieties I'm Growing this Year! #growingpeppers
Your property is so beautiful, Angela - so green and so many trees! Your method of landscaping one area at a time over the years is a great one - makes it actually doable, time-wise and money-wise. I have a shady area I want to design and plant, too, so this was inspiring! 😊 Love your choice of perennial plants, btw- nice variety of textures and colors. Hope your watermelon seedlings take off now and do well for you! Thanks for sharing! ❤
Thanks so much, Kim! I think the same about your property when I watch your videos, so beautiful and very different from my own. I'll look forward to seeing what you do with your shady space. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi, Angela! 🙋♀️ Congrats on getting that long bed settled in the ground. It looks fantastic! Great use of your extra bricks to cover the gaps between the ground and the bed walls. Love your idea of creating a sitting area in the shady area behind those two beds. That will be a lovely place to sit and enjoy your garden. ❤ Your colorful zinnias are so pretty and cheerful! The heat is definitely slowing down my veggie production here, too. Already very much looking forward to fall! 😁😎 My best-producing veggies so far are my cherry tomatoes, followed by my zucchini. And the veggie that's had the hardest time getting going this year - my peppers. 😥 Thanks for sharing your week in the garden!
Thanks so much, Kim! I appreciate you sharing your experience this summer with your best (and not as good) plants. I've been very surprised at the way quite a few of my pepper plants have turned around after getting off to a very poor start. Heading out now to transplant my tiny watermelon seedlings and maybe start a few sunflowers (for the 3rd try this summer 😖). As always, I so appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos and for your thoughtful comment. 😘
@@TheWoodlandGardener I always enjoy the relaxed vibe of your videos and find it interesting to see what and how you're growing in a zone so different than mine. ❤️ I hope my peppers turn around and grow at some point - you give me a bit of hope. 😊 Good luck with your sunflowers! 🌻🌻🌻
Hi, Angela! Everything is looking beautiful there, despite the unusual dry heat you've been having lately. I love Mexican Sunflowers, too - so cheerful! And Zinnias, yes! Great idea to plant some flowers in with your veggies in your grow bags. 😊 Glad the plastic cloches are working for your squash - no, no jinxes allowed!!! And happy to hear that starting your watermelon in the greenhouse is going so well! 👏👏👏 Love that you send your houseplants on vacation! 🍸🏖️🍸🏖️🍸
Thank you so much, Kim! Yes, loving the flowers. We are due to have some rain in the next couple days, so fingers crossed that it pans out. Thank you for stopping by. I ❤️ your comments!
@@TheWoodlandGardener Your channel is one of my favorites! 😊😎
Aww, thank you so much! This made my day. 🥰🥰🥰
Great tip about the paint pen, Angela. I only tried using them for plant tags last year, and they work super well. 😊 Overseeding for insurance is definitely smart! You know, as far as all melons go, I wait to seed until mid-June. They just grow so much faster and better for me in the heat. Same with peppers. 😎 I think you starting your watermelon, squash, and cucumbers in your greenhouse will work really well. They'll love the added heat, and they're protected from all the critters until they're bigger! I grow cherry tomatoes only these days because they just do SO much better in the high heat here than big tomatoes. Plus, they ripen so quickly and are so prolific! 😁 Good thinking saving those pepper seeds! We're 105° F today - typical for June. The really high heat (110-118° usually) kicks in come July and lasts through the end of August. Never any rain. So yes, watering is extremely important! 😎 But well worth it! Thanks for sharing your garden progress! 😊
Hi, Kim! Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I may end up reseeding the melons 😊. I'm excited the watermelons are sprouting and one of my pumpkins has sprouted today, too!!
It helps to prune off your tomato leaves and stems from a few inches above the ground and downward. My onions also look sort of shrimpy.
Thank you! I've done that in the past with tomatoes, and it just escaped me this year. Appreciate the reminder and I hope both our onion crops turn out!
I have those clear caches. I get mine from the Dollar Tree. Yes i am watering my plants every day. Because of this heat. My plants are struggling. But we as gardeners just have to do our best. Thanks for sharing this video. Happy gardening 😊
Hi Renee! It's so good to hear from you. I never seem to find any good gardening stuff at my Dollar Tree, only a handful of seed packets now and then. I hope your garden gets from relief from the heat soon 🙏🏼
Lovely walk, Angela! Must be such a relaxing time for you. 😊 Some of my favorite moments were at 1:38 3:03 & 5:12. The bridge over the pond was an unexpected, serene place to stop and ponder. Pink flowers at 7:17 are gorgeous! 💕 Couldn't tell what they were though... 🤔 You know, squirrels are so much cuter (9:20) when they're in the woods rather than in my garden. 😂 And at 9:50 in the tree - he looks so innocent! 🐿️ Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Kim! Glad you enjoyed it! When I saw those pink flowers, I LeafSnapped them and one of the possibilities came back as wild roses. They were so pretty. Totally agree with you on the squirrels. I can really appreciate them when they're not eating my garden veggies 😂😂😂. Thanks again for watching. I always love your comments. 💕
@@TheWoodlandGardener Oh, I love wild roses!❤️ After I moved some specialty roses from my backyard to my front yard, wild roses came up in their place. I took them out and transplanted them into big containers, and more came up in the ground. That cycle happened several times, and I learned that they're often used as root stalk for cultivated roses. Also learned they're considered invasive by some because of their widespread root system. They're quite resilient, as I discovered. 😂 But I enjoy them in pots now, and if I ever move, I can take them with me. 😎
Oh, yay!!! You got your big beds resituated! Congrats!!! 👏👏👏
Thank you 🤗 It feels good to have the worst of it behind me now!
Also, as long as you give them plenty of regular water, your new trees should do fine. 😎
Fingers crossed!!
Your property is looking beautiful, Angela, and your fence is coming along nicely! You've really planned it out carefully, and that's so important for a permanent fence. The overhead shot really puts it into perspective, too. Ok, I have to mention that I love the color of your shed doors! ❤️ Oh, the Yucca plant is lovely! I would have thought it needed full sun, but it's obviously growing fine under that tree. Great find with the different pepper varieties! Always cool to discover a new plant nursery. 😊 Thanks for sharing what's going on at your place! 🙋♀️
Thanks so much, Kim! I'll have to find that paint color name for you if you're interested. We chose it to match (as closely as possible) the doors and window trim on our house, which was already painted before we moved in.
@@TheWoodlandGardener That would be great, if you can find it! 😊
Farley is cute!
Thank you so much! 💕
Hi, Angela! So true what you said about needing to thoroughly water trees through at least the first year (and *especially* the first summer!) after planting them. Very important! I need to plant *my* melons for the season this coming week, too - and yes, more sunflowers. I love those so much! Great job getting those beds dug out so you can rotate them! I'm sure that felt really exciting for you! Thanks for sharing what you've been up to this past week in the garden. I really enjoyed the "visit" with you!
Hi Kim! Thanks so much for visiting 😊 I always love your comments! I have high hopes for my sunflowers this year. It's usually hit or miss on whether they make it taller than a few inches before something gets them. Hope you are doing well and that reminds me - I need to visit your garden!
Lovely hike, trail looks and sounds so therapeutic my friend!
Thank you so much! Yes, it was lovely 💕
What a fun hike, Angela! Thanks for taking us along! 😊 Beautiful wildflowers, and the trees are just gorgeous! I'm the same about birds... I really enjoy seeing them and listening to their songs, but I can't name them. You're right - it really does feel like a jungle at 15:30. Perfect photo opp at 17:10. ❤️ What a picturesque creek! This place is really a treasure for people who love quiet, peaceful hikes through nature. Thanks again for sharing! 😎
Thanks, Kim! I'm so glad you came along with me. I hope to do more of these as the summer goes on, at different places. Thanks so much for your sweet comment. Hope you get lots of outdoor time this weekend!
Hi, Angela! Great research on your Apple trees! 👏👏👏 Sounds like you're becoming the apple cedar rust expert! It's definitely going to be worth all your time and effort though when you're one day harvesting tons of delicious apples! 😎 (And I have both Liberty & Empire apples, so I know how good they are! 😁)
Hi Kim! Thanks so much for the encouragement, much appreciated 😊😊😊 I sure hope to harvest one day!
Wow bạn ươm rất nhiều cây giống và chúng phát triển khá tốt ,mỗi cây đều được đánh dấu rất khoa học 👍.
Cảm ơn! Tôi đánh giá cao nhận xét tốt bụng của bạn. Thank you! 😊💕
Khu vườn của bạn phát triển rất tốt 👍.
Thank you! (Cảm ơn ???) 😊😊😊
Wow, Angela! You've been busy! That's a ton of tomatoes! 👏👏👏 I thought I had a lot with 2 dozen cherry tomatoes and 6 large tomato plants, but I think you definitely have more. 😂 Great job moving your GreenStalk! I think one of the things that has most surprised me about gardening is how very important microclimates are, even within my own small property. Learning what grows best where is so important! I'm putting together my own version of a 'GreenStalk'-wannabe stacked planter this week. Going to plant things that need mostly shade and filtered sun here in my hot, dry area - like lettuce, dill, cilantro, & basil. 😎 I agree that a big cart is essential to gardening. I'd be lost without mine! Thanks for sharing! I hope you really enjoy working in your garden this week - before it gets too hot! 😊
Thanks so much, Kim! Definitely agree on the microclimates. It's amazing to think that there can be such differences in spaces so close together. I'll look forward to seeing your DIY GreenStalk 😊 I bet it will inspire all of us out here and provide ideas for making our own. Hope you have a great week!
The older folks around here swear by putting a saucer of beer in the pot or garden where the slugs are causing problems. I'll be trying that as soon as I borrow some beer. Can't wait to watch your garden grow. Best wishes on your channel.
Thank you so much! I've heard that before too, come to think of it. I tried it once years ago but it turned out that slugs weren't the problem after all, in that situation. I may give that a go again. Thank you for the suggestion and for the kind comment! 💕
My experience tomatoes do not grow big in small bags. Surprised your using your smallest bags for tomatoes. Yes they grow but they don't get the big size they would in the ground or in much bigger bags or totes. I used a 40 one and planted and early girl and they stayed the size of a baseball just a lot smaller than normal size fruit.
I hear ya! I've grown them all kind of ways. The first time I grew tomatoes, it was in a 12 x 24 grow box, 2 plants per box, on our back deck when we lived in the city. Then when we moved here, I used 5 gallon buckets, before I had any raised beds. I found that they did well either way. Even now when I have several raised beds, it all comes down to numbers as far as who gets what container and trying to fit in everything I want to grow. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!
Hi, Angela! 🙋♀️ I feel you on the ongoing challenge of adding mulch to my garden pathways - in my case, woodchips. Very much needed and so beneficial, but it does take a lot of time. I try to do a section each day. Little by little, I tell myself... 😎 Your potatoes do look like they're super healthy. Great job! 👏👏👏 So many grow bags! Glad you found extra ones. It's always such a dilemma in the spring to try finding spots for all the seedlings! 😊 Your Oak Leaf Hydrangeas look fantastic. I've only been growing Hydrangeas for a couple of years, but I love them! (I have one OLH, and it's my favorite because of its fall colors.) Of course, I had to find a place here that only gets morning sun to make these plants happy. 😎 I'm using my grow bags again this year, mostly for tomatoes, but they take so much water and still tend toward dryness, so I've put in some ollas to keep the plants moist down by the roots. Yes, Lemon Balm and (my favorite!) Lemon Verbena smell incredibly amazing! Everyone should grow them! 🍋🍋🍋 Happy May Gardening!
Hi Kim! Thanks so much for stopping in! Little by little is the way to go on any big project these days, haha! The OLHs are gorgeous and I think I'd like to put a few more here and there around the property. I've never used an olla, but it sounds amazing! Have you used them in the past, and do they work well?
@@TheWoodlandGardener Yes, I've used ollas over the years in various containers, and they worked great. Over the winter though, I realized they would be an excellent way to help with my really big grow bags that dry out so quickly. So experimenting with that this summer. 😎
I love your property, Angela! Such a luscious green! And that stone walkway through the trees is gorgeous! ❤️❤️❤️ Great job on overwintering the pepper plant! One of my cherry tomatoes overwintered, and it's producing new tomatoes now. Yay! 😎 I need to add some more woodchips to all my garden paths. And start thinking about where I'm going to put all my Walking Onions babies. 🙄😂😎
Thanks so much, Kim! How cool to overwinter a tomato plant, love it!!
I know i am still getting my garden cleaned up too. But your garden is coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day
Thanks so much, Renee! You too!
I’m growing in 6b. I have grown the sugar rush peach peppers and love them! This year I’m growing several different varieties of peppers.. probably way too many!! I received some seeds from a friend for a variety called Candy Cane. It’s supposed to be on the mild side with variegated coloring on the fruit and leaves.
Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping in and commenting 😊 I hear you on growing way too many pepper varieties!! I do that every year, just can't stop. The Candy Cane one sounds really nice. Variegated coloring always makes things extra-lovely in my opinion. I'll have to check that one out. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week!
Hi, Angela! I somehow missed this video when it first came out, but it was fun to watch it today! 😊 I like your method of doing things slowly but surely - good thing because that's really all I can handle these days, and it's more enjoyable at a slower pace anyway. 😎 Yay! Your potatoes are coming up! I need to add some trellises this month, too - a big one for my kiwi plants and some smaller ones for cucumber and beans. Great tips on the peppers. Coincidentally, I'm planting out my first round of peppers today. Need to sow some more this week! Nowadays, I've found I can never get enough peppers and cherry tomatoes for salsa! 😂 Thanks for this relaxing garden update. I've been taking time off from making videos to get some other life stuff done, but I'm looking forward to getting back to filming the garden (and some other things) very soon. 😎 Happy Spring, Angela!
Hi Kim! Thanks so much for your kind comment! It means so much to me 💕 I hear you on taking a break, sometimes other life stuff just demands our full attention and that's just how it goes. I'm a bit jelly that you can start peppers this late in the spring and have success with them 😂 There's no way that would really work here in my southwestern Ohio garden! Hope to catch up with you soon!
Go Angie!
Thank you! 😊
Hi, Angela! Spring is finally here! We've had a lot of rain in northern California this year, too - even this weekend, in fact. But April has also given us over a week of sunshine and temps in the 70s - and supposedly more of that lovely weather again starting tomorrow. 😊 I use cardboard under my woodchip mulch, too. Works so well! Your kale looks great, and so do your onion seedlings! Enjoy the sunshine! 🌻🌸🌻 P.S. Couldn't really hear the mower at all. 😊
Hi Kim! So good to hear from you! I'm glad to hear your weather has been nice 😊 I'm heading over to your channel now, missed watching your videos!
@@TheWoodlandGardener I've been posting less frequently lately. Been trying to decide what direction I want to go with my channel and taking my time thinking about it. ☺️
❤❤❤👍
Thank you so much!! 💕
Great to see you back, Angela! Your property is looking beautiful in the spring sunshine. ❤ Wow - that is a *lot* of potatoes! I'm thinking I might plant some in big containers this year. That way they won't take over my garden beds! ☺️ I have Liberty and Empire Apple trees, too - so delicious! Thankfully, I don't have to deal with deer - only rabbits and squirrels. 🐇🐿️ Looking forward to your weekly vlogs! 😊
Hi Kim! Thank you so much! 🥰 it’s good to be back. Definitely recommend potatoes if you have room! I’m happy to hear your apple trees are safe from deer, though I do know how troublesome rabbits and squirrels can be 😣
@@TheWoodlandGardener I grew potatoes several years back, but in my garden beds, and I must have missed harvesting some. They grew more every year and kept spreading! It was crazy! I do love them though, so I'll probably try again, but this time in pots. That will make it easier to do complete harvesting, too. 😁 Are you planting up your GreenStalk again? How did that go last summer?
That’s so funny about your potatoes! I will be planting the green stalk again. It didn’t do very well last year but I think that’s very likely due to the poor location I had it in. I’m going to move it into the bigger garden where it will get more sun and attention. Fingers crossed’
@@TheWoodlandGardenerYes, that will probably work much better for you. 😊 I'll be interested to see how it goes! I might do one myself next year - though I'll probably need to keep it in partial shade as hot and dry as it is here! 😎
How was the taste of these? Are they sweeter than other cherry tomatoes?
Hi! At the time, I thought they were fantastic. Now that I've grown other types of cherry tomatoes, I realize they aren't really that sweet and I have to say that they've fallen a ways down on the preference list. My favorites are now Sungold and Honey Drop, which are much sweeter than Matt's (to me, at least). I still grow Matt's most years, but save those for salads and recipes that call for cherry tomatoes rather than eating right off the vine. Hope this was helpful!
when you get the tazels on the sweet corn dust the tazzels with chilli powder and the squirrels wont come back
Thanks for the tip! I'm trying the chili powder this year. Fingers crossed.
just a note to say that even rats will eat your corn but this year 2023 I planted 24 sweetcorn and not one was affected xx
a ps to my last message apply the chilli just as the tazzels are turning brown.@@TheWoodlandGardener
@@user-pc8ou8ul4d So glad to hear it!
Shoot them they are huge pests
Sorry to say this but you’ll find they can tear holes in that. I tried and they got through and dug up all my freshly planted corn kernels. Hardware cloth (aka wire mesh) is your only sure thing. Oh, and not chicken wire, they can get through that too. All this being said, sometimes making it slightly harder to get at is all it takes. Just depends how badly they want it. You could also consider putting out decoy feed on the other side of your property for a few weeks when the ears are nearly ready to harvest.
Hi! Alas, you are so right!! The cloth did nothing to protect the corn. The following year I ended up growing corn in my small greenhouse, which kept it out of reach of squirrels but the corn did not flourish. I like the idea of using decoy feed elsewhere when the time is right. Hardware cloth might be difficult to wrangle around and over the corn stalks, for me at least. Appreciate your comment and suggestions!
Why ??
What tomato variety do you have? Also, do you use any fertilizer for the tomato seedlings?
Fertilizer question first - I use Milorganite (slow-release) when I transplant the seedlings into the garden and then a 2nd application midway through summer. SO many tomato varieties this year! Are you ready for a long list? Abe Lincoln Amish Paste Bella Rosa Black Strawberry Blush Bonny Best (favorite full-size tomato) Celebrity Cherokee Purple Classic Beefsteak Dr. Wyche's Yellow Fire Fly Glacier Granny Cantrell Hill Marmande Honey Drop Cherry Jubilee Matt's Wild Cherry Mountain Princess Nepal New Yorker Paul Robeson Rutgers San Marzano Summer Sunrise Sungold (favorite cherry tomato) Tachi Are you growing tomatoes this year? Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it 😊
The garden looks absolutely beautiful & fingers crossed that you get an abundance of taters 🖤
Thanks so much!!
Hi, Angela! Your garden is just bursting into life there! So lovely to see everything so lush and healthy!😊 All the potatoes are doing great, and those sound like interesting varieties. Wow! *Amazing* garlic! You definitely are an expert with that crop! ☺️ I like your idea about bordering the edges of your raised beds with sedum. Looks like it's something that could really work. Oh, your oak leaf hydrangeas look beautiful already. ❤ I bought one of these last year (for the gorgeous foliage), and it's just now about to bloom. 😁 Hope it warms up enough for you to plant all your lovely peppers soon - and your other seedlings, too, of course. ☺️ I've been *completely* knocked flat for over a week with a severe flu and migraine, so the garden has definitely taken some major hits. Hoping to get working out there again very soon though. 😊
Hi Kim, thanks so much for your kind comment! I do hope you get to feeling better very soon. Your garden will be there for you 💕
Love this video! I’m so excited about my ghost pepper plant, I tried growing them last year but the heat killed the whole plant 😢 I hope it works out this season!
Hi Samantha! Thanks so much for your comment and I'm happy you enjoyed the video! Best of luck with your peppers this year 😊
Your garden is looking good and your potatoes are doing so well. Thanks for sharing your garden with us. Have a blessed day
Thank you so much!
Nice!
Thanks!
You have such a lovely garden! Thanks for sharing! New subscriber here - Taryn
Hi Taryn, Welcome!! and thank you so much! I'll visit your channel too!
Oh, a snake! You're right - good to take care of rodents, but I'd be constantly on the lookout for it after that. ☺️ Great job getting so many of your tomatoes planted! I'm using a few big grow bags this summer for tomatoes and peppers, and I'm interested to see how they do. I love your shed colors, Angela, and the porch looks so comfy and cozy! I can see you enjoying a relaxing morning or evening sitting there. Love the bright pillows, too! ❤ Good improvising with the solar lights!
Hi Kim, thanks so much! Grow bags are great to use in a pinch. I've had good success with them over the years. I do hang out on my shed porch many, many evenings during the summer. Each year I try to make it a little bit cuter and cozier. Hope you are well and hope you have a good week ahead.
Big thumbs up done👉👍 2👍👍❤️💝💖 So wonderful sharing friend. I like gardening 🎉❤🎉❤ Happy weekend💝💖❤️🌺🌼 Full videos watching from Bangladesh 💖💝🇧🇩🇧🇩
Thank you so much!!
This video is so much fun! I also have red clay soil, and over the years, alternating the clumps of clay with compost has really worked to improve my soil. Your discussion about native plants was a great reminder for me. I live very close to the National Arboretum, and every year, the Friends of the National Arboretum have a native plant sale. I hope I haven't missed it already. Thanks so much for these videos! You're giving me a lot of great ideas. 💖💖💖
Hi Merlene! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your great comment. How lucky to live so close to the National Arboretum. I've not been there but would love to visit. I work for a local nature center and while mostly we are known for our fantastic hiking trails, we also do a lot of conservation work and have a native plant sale each year. It's going on right now and I have to reign myself in or else I'd be coming home with a carload of plants every time I go to work 😂😂😂 Hope you have a great weekend!
It's wonderful to see your garden! And that shed is not just a shed; it's a work of art! 👌I'm getting ready to plant some of my tomato, pepper, kale, eggplant, onion, carrot, and swiss chard seedlings into containers. I've never used containers to grow vegetables, so I'm just using some leftover old pots. If all goes well, I might invest in something better for next year. Do you ever plant more than one seedling in the same grow bag? I'm thinking about doubling up my peppers. 💖💖💖
Thank you! I've definitely planted more than one seedling in my grow bags; specifically, peppers, since they like to "hold hands". It worked out well last year, planting two seedlings in some of the bags. I've also done potatoes that way too, planting several starts in each of the larger bags. Good luck with your garden and I hope we'll see your plants in some of your videos. 💕😊
@@TheWoodlandGardener Thanks for the tips, and you will definitely see my results in my upcoming videos! 💖💖💖
Your garden is coming along nicely. Yes the potatoes looks great. I have snakes too. They scare me when they just appear. But if I see them. It's not so bad. Thanks for sharing this video. Have a wonderful day
Thanks so much 😊 Hope your week is off to a great start!
Very nice!
Thank you so much!
