Could you cut your flitches 2" thick, and edge them, to add to the 2x6 lumber you need?
You can but it’s sap wood and not really good quality. Thanks for the comment and I apologize for the delayed response.
Where did your farma grapple videos go trying to put one together and i remembered you have videos when you first got it
Awesome, just what I needed this morning, doing my 1,000 hour service and it was in the box just didn’t know where it went
What was it doing before and did it make a difference?
It was working fine. It was just time to change it.
Before you changed the pilot filter you take of hidraolic oil or no? And when you changed the another two filter you taked of the hidraolic oil or no?
If I’m tracking what you mean. I did not empty the tank first .
Good afternoon, colleague.I am writing to you from Belarus, maybe you have heard!? I have a small farm. I recently bought a john deere 4044m tractor to help me in the USA at a Copart auction, faulty (wiring defect). Do you have an electrical diagram for this model?
Hello. I’m sorry, but I don’t have a wiring diagram. If you go to deere.com or contact a dealer directly, you may be able to find one.
Hello. Thanks for the video. I've got the same size kubota ex. 8500 lbs. Is the 42" too heavy for your machine at all when your swinging logs? Grapple pros recommended the 34" for my kubota u35. Im just wondering if that was a factor for you at all? Or what you'd recommend now that you've been using yours a while. Thanks.
Hey Brian. I’ve been really happy with the 42” grapple. I can say that with this grapple on my 35G, I can pick a Doug Fir log that’s 18’ long and 24” in diameter. It’s all it can do, I mean all it can do… All in all. It’s been really good. I do break Al out of fittings on it because I’m not at all careful and they do stock out a bit and are a little vulnerable to whacking them on stuff.
This is late to the Conversation but the zero tail swing of your u35 is why. The kx033 weighs a little less but handled loads at a reach much better when I tested them against each other. Bought the 33.
You’ve been running this LT35 for several years now. How do you like it? Buying one soon with the 24hp diesel.
Thanks for watching! I love it and it’s been a very reliable machine! I would definitely get it again if I had to do it all over again. If I had to change anything I would have gotten the diesel engine and the extra hydraulic backstops. I do have to say that the gas engine is very good and has plenty of power and is extremely reliable though.
@@CascadiaLumberworks Great to hear!! Love the videos, they are a big help seeing the machine in action.
Thx for sharing
My pleasure
I hate to brag on something made over in the orient, but i just LOVE my hydraulic pin grabber on my Yanmar vio35-6A. No bolts, wedges, and hammers anywhere near my machine. Great video though, thanks for posting, and glad that thing works so great for you! Getting a heck of a lot of work done and looks like fun fun fun
Sweet toy you have there
Does this come with whatever adapter plate you need welded to fit your machine ?
It comes with the flat plate then you will need to purchase and weld the adapters to the flat plate.
Just purchased my first mini x and do residential tree work. My machine has thumb so is that all I need to be able to run this grapple?
Hello, my mini is equipped with a diverted valve so I can run the thumb or if I switch it, it will divert flow to a coupling that I plug the grapple into.
"According to the schematics..." sounds ominous.
nevermind! I didn't know the lapsider could do that. I should wait before I open my mouth.
Don't wood shingles have to be slanted with the grain? Therefore the blocks should be put on sidewise and you will cut across the grain.
Thay previous comment was supposed to go to Donny Walker lol. I am your 800 sub. I run a couple Woodmizer Saw mills in UT . The Kilted Sawyer
Thank you for watching! I appreciate the support. I’ll post more stuff soon.
What hour mark are you supposed to change it?
I’m not sure. When I get the filter packs from Deere it’s included so I assume it’s every time one changes the main hydraulic filter.
Thanks for the video and instructions! First time 35G owner so lots to learn! Ben
Thanks for watching! Congrats on the new excavator, you’re gonna love it!
Awesome work. Looks great. I would love to do what u do.
Thank you very much. I really am blessed to live and work in this way.
@@CascadiaLumberworks yes, you are my friend. I will retire in five years. I’m trying to buy my grandfather’s 50 acres in Kentucky outside of Jackson. I learn a lot by watching you guys do what you do. I really appreciate you. Keep up the good work man.
My best guess is for log skidding run the winch cable from the dozer to up over the top to lift logs Thanks
Yes, exactly.
I need one now.. All of a sudden
Yeah, it’s a pretty cool attachment for sure!
Nice wood
Thanks!
Nice. I’ve never seen this tried before!
The logs need to be really close to the same size for it to work well.
I did the same setup but I used a floor dimmer switch from an early model Chevy so I switch between functions using my left foot. I also added a led mini light to let me know which function I was using.
What machine did you use it on? I used a micro switch and installed it on the left stick. I had a lot of trouble with buttons wearing out, and I finally figured out that micro switches were the way to go. It works pretty well and I haven’t lost one yet.
How are the grapples holding up to wear and tear so far?
They are holding up pretty well considering the abuse. The rotator is leaking a little and one of the bolts holding it together stripped out but it still works.
Yeah, grapple’s take a lot of abuse. Sounds like a new seal kit and a heli- coil and you’re good as new.
Is it possible to mill 3/4" (19mm) straight slats using this jig. Just straight not on an angle?
Yes, I believe so. Just start out flat and keep it that way.
I'll take the dozer 😉
Yeah, me too!
Log arch
skidding arch.
What is this machine? Never seen anything like it & I live in Oregon hehe
It’s an arch used for skidding logs behind a Cat. We used to use them for skidding extremely large logs. They pull easier when one end is suspended.
This big Yew is really nice looking! Most of them are a nice orange brown color, but I've seen some that are almost as dark as walnut and some as light as western hemlock! You never know what your going to really get with yew because of the way it grows, very slowly in the understory for centuries. I live near Estacada Oregon, and some of the yews that burned in the 2020 fire were over 28 inches in diameter!! It's a real shame that they are so sensitive to fire. Most of the trees have between 20 - 40 rings per inch and very dense and hard! Pacific Yew is the ultimate wood in my opinion. Beautiful, hard, strong, and flexible.
You are correct, it's such beautiful wood. I'm hoping to integrate some of it into my house at some point.
@Cascadia Lumberworks nice! Great idea. It's very stable once seasoned from my experience. It's been my favorite wood ever since I discovered it about 10 years ago. I work with it a lot and I've never been poisoned or any ill health effects from touching it and being around the dust all the time. I do wear a dust mask or a respirator just to be safe.
Just ordered one to put on my E35. I have two Aux circuits so I wouldn't have to mess with a diverter, hopefully
I really like mine. It’s been really reliable and very handy; You’ll love it!
What blade did you use?
Hello, I use the WoodMizer DoubleHard blades.
Hi, I just found your videos on the portable shed. How did it work out? Any issues moving it with your forks? I want to build something similar to house a small maple sap evaporator. Having something I can move with my forks will give me the option of carrying out on the property with my tractor or, putting it on a trailer and moving it long distances. Tx
Hello, thank for watching. It didn’t work out. I built it too big so I can’t lift it. However, I am able to design it around.
Thanks for getting back with me so quickly. I have a John Deere 5320 and the one I'm building won't be as large so hopefully I won't have the same problem.
@@patblanzy8653 Oh Yeah, your tractor is a bit larger than mine so you will probably have better luck. I guess the one thing that I found was to be really aware of where the forks reach under the building to make sure it's not "Front heavy" and the building has good contact with the forks.
Wood mizer setting
Hello, thanks for commenting. Can you elaborate on this a little more please? I know I’m missing something here but it seems complicated to keep the thickness of the shingles right. If you have a trick please share it with me if you could. Thanks!
I'm thinking about purchasing one for our 35g....you still love it?
I do and it’s awesome.
@@CascadiaLumberworks Thanks so much for all the information that you shared on here - much appreciated!
Great Video! I just uploaded one on the lessons I learned with my new LT35HD. Check it out when you get a minute and let me know what you think.
Thank you and thanks for watching. I will take a look when I get a moment.
I just watched your video it was great! Good information and 100% agree with you about the outriggers, they are kind of a bear to deal with! Looking forward to watching more!
I notice you have two different piles that you sort the boards into. The pile at the end of the saw I think is the boards that make the grade. The pile you toss boards int that is behind the saw must be rejects? The actual lumber grade has to be the same, so can I assume that some boards are not the correct size? From my view, here at my computer, they all look the same!
Hello and thanks for watching! I tend to under explain in my videos and you are correct in that I do have 2 piles of boards. One pile is for boards that make the grade and one pile is for boards that don't make the grade but are determined at the time to be at least fairly good. Boards may not make grade for various reasons. They may be an odd size or they may have some kind of defect such as bugs, rot, cracks, knots, etc. All of the boards that have a defect serious enough to not make the good pile go into either the scrap pile or into the "Weird Board" pile as I like to call it. Scrap pile boards go straight to the burn pit and the "Weird Boards" get evaluated later and many go into the pit and many get used for other things or are re-sawn to a different size. The reason that there are so many weird boards on the last 2 videos is that I was having some trouble with my saw in Part 1 of the 2 videos and the logs were kind of buggy and had some rot in them. The logs that I used are from Western Red Cedar trees that were well over 40 years old and I noticed, on my property anyway, that the older Cedars tend to have lots of bugs and rot in them. They are nice big logs, but contain lots of defect. Anyway, I hope this help to clarify what I am actually doing there.
@@CascadiaLumberworks Wondering if you have any interest is selling any of the reject pieces. If you would I would like to drive to Cascadia and take a look when you have some. Interested in cedar or doug fir pieces. Also could you give me a board foot price for 2x6 cedar for decking. I am planning on replacing ours next spring. Thanks David
Sorry, I don't have them any longer. Cedar is a bit hard to come by but I have lots of fir to sell if you're interested in that.
@@CascadiaLumberworks Yes I am interested in fir. Can I make arrangement to come out to meet and see what you have? I have no idea how you would want to do this over social media!! Let me know how you do this and I will be happy come over. Thanks David
I love watching these vid's while I'm working. 🥸 They make me feel relaxed during a stressful day.
Glad you like them!
I really enjoy watching your videos! Many years ago I would have loved to have a self-loading log truck and a portable saw mill! Alas, that never happened, but I do enjoy watching you guys! I wonder, do you sell lumber to the public? I am looking for cedar to make planter boxes and such for around the house. Would love to get some from someone like you rather than a big box store! I live about an hour from Cascadia.
Thank you for watching. I do sell lumber but as of now my Cedar supply is fairly low as everything that was sawn in the video(s) is sold. How much do you need?
@@CascadiaLumberworks For right now I am wondering if you are willing to sell some of your reject, miss-sized, boards, some bug holes ok, even some of your edge trim pieces. Pieces that I can salvage smaller boards from. I would like to come to Cascadia when you have more reject to check them out. Next Spring I want to replace our decking with cedar 2x6s. Could you give me a price on the 2x6s. Thanks David
How much does this tractor can lift on the pallet fork?
My understanding is that it can lift around 1200 lbs.
Thanks for taking the time to video and explain. I have a 35 G …build my own attachments … have a welding / fabrication shop. Live in Canada .. it’s a hobby for me as well. I’m learning as I go.. again thanks …
Thanks for watching and commenting. What types of attachments do you build?
I picked up my shingle/lap sider attachment and a Lathe-Mizer about a month ago. I've got two orders for shingles so I finally put it on today and will try it out tomorrow. Will put the lathe on at some point, hopefully!
Congratulations on the new attachments!
I’m debating either one of these or a Kubota
I really don’t know much about Kubota but, I’m really happy with my JD. I suspect, in the end, there’s not a lot of difference.
Everything on that mount setup seems upside down and backwards from what iv built. Greetings from Southern oregon btw
Can you elaborate on ‘backwards and upside down’ please? Do you have a pic of what you did? I had very little idea of what to do when I got it so I just did it. It’s worked really well so far.. I’m always looking for a better way.
I am defiantly interested in this grapple rig. We have similar machinery and our choice of John Deere is obvious. One thing you might want to consider for you JD 4044 is the Woodland Mills WC68 PTO driven wood chipper. I have recently purchased one and its great. Been enjoying your UA-cam channel Thanks
Thank you for watching! I agree, a chipper would be really nice. I’ve also been considering a mulching head for the excavator. I’m tired of packing and burning brush…
Nice video mate water great day to be outside working and doing something that you really enjoy.
Absolutely! Thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it. It’s about time it stopped raining long enough to let me outside to do something.
What blade are you cutting the cedar with?
Thanks for watching and commenting! It’s a Wood-Mizer Double Hard 10° blade that I’ve sharpened like 3 times or so.
That grapple looks like a perfect fit for my operation. I'm interested what brand it is, if you would do the same again. I have a 12,000 lb excavator...would you do the same model for that size. Thanks!
hello and thanks for watching!. I am really happy with the grapple and I think the size for this excavator is perfect. I believe if I had a larger excavator I would get a larger grapple. I do like how it swings and rotates and isn’t fixed so it makes it a lot easier to swing the logs in tight spaces. I would definitely buy it again.
That’s bevel siding lap siding is flat
We’ll, you’ll have to take that up with wood-mizer as it was made with the ‘lapsider attachment’ and not the ‘bevel siding’ attachment… woodmizer.com/Store/Shop/Sawmill-Options/Shingle-Lapsider
