For a similiar feel to Rena game I would recommend 2Mickennxtre68 flash games. They have made a 4 part “Lucario Dating Sim” flash game series which is actually just increasingly esoteric platformers with weird humor. The one called 2.5 is the weirdest, it’s a platformer that feels like it was made in that old Click and Play software. Because basically every level feels like a completely different art style. Despite the jank in this user’s games there’s a lot of genuine great qualities, like as far as I can tell all of the sprite art is custom. It’s based on popular characters from Pokemon, but they actually drew the backgrounds and sprites themselves. I mean, they kind of had to, since a Pokemon platformer doesn’t exist. Sorry for sending this comment more than once, seems to have kept getting blocked.

I think theft in the pursuit of creation is a very interesting idea that has largely been ignored or shunned due to IP law and common ideals of what it means to be a ‘good’ creator. Painting masters used to train by copying the works of their predecessors. Toby Fox famously started out making Romhacks of Earthbound, something Nintendo are very keen to overlook in favour of funny sans in smash skin It arguably goes further - debates about tracing art, concerns about AI art being reduced down to a vague notion of ‘stealing’ that supersedes other arguably more valid concerns about energy consumption and corporate overreach. Im not saying that tracing art and passing it off as your own or training an AI artbot on an artist’s portfolio without their consent in order to make it harder for them to exist and do the thing they love are by any means good things - far from it. But we are all patchworks of the things we love, the people we spend time with, and our art is no exception: by openly analysing our capacity to take from others, intentionally or not, we can begin to create unapologetically terrible and wondrous things like Rena Game.
