I kinda get what they were going for with her being afraid to hurt Leon. The idea of her losing control and causing any physical pain to others terrifies her. But I do not buy that she would just sit in that bedroom, crying and shivering. The scene when she was caught in a trap in the original was contrived, and the trap itself is ridiculous and kinda pointless. But at least Salazar acknowledged that he does not know where she is exactly, and will look for her. And her being caught in a trap explains why she could not run away. And Leon found her mere moments before Salazar's men got to her. Man, the more you think about the story changes, the more you realize how much they make everything dumber.

And the cherry on top, putting this scene in the room where Leon and Ada originally encountered each other. In the original, they got to be in a romantic looking bedroom. While in the remake, because of this stupid scene, it became a random storage room with no memorable qualities whatsoever. 😒 I know I'm repeating myself again with this comment but I can't stress enough how much this upset me even on my first playthrough where I was initially pretty positive but still had some big issues.

The most out-of-the-blue scene in the Remake. She just sits around waiting to be roused from the sofa?! Certified independent modern woman moment. She didn't bother to even hide? Just waited around to be consoled? She does know there's a world beyond her, right? Main character syndrome, much? I hate it. I HATE IT. And this cheer up motivational scene feels so insincere coming from the protagonist who not only doesn't give a fuck about Las Plagas' victims - the Ganados, but outright mocks them. Ashley, had you turned into one, he would've quipped a one-liner while yeeting a granade straight at your face, I guaran-damn-tee this to you! Or do zombies deserve sympathy only if they'd been a hot chick before? *cough* Ben Bertolucci *cough* I'm sick of this modern quantification, that someone's death is a tragedy, and another one's a punchline/subversion. And it's not done to punish villians either.

Will you delve deeper into the villains and how they differ between the remake and the original? One of the most archaic criticisms about the saddler in the original is that his plan doesn't make sense, the fact that he told Leon his entire plan makes him seem very stupid considering that he just had to let Leon rescue Ashley and the plan to send the infected Ashley to the United States would have been completed, I would like to know what you think about that

Small correction: Ada in RE2 referred to John as her boyfriend, not husband. Either way, great video. 😊 It definitely feels like the writers for this remake hated Ada the most, with how much less screentime and general presence is dedicated to her. 😞 I don't know if this kinda thing would interest you, but I would definitely recommend checking out ProMontreal's Ada AI voice mod videos. It's crazy how much better a literal AI sounds than Lily Gao's performance. It may not fix the writing or other problems 4R has, but to me it's definitely an improvement over what we ended up getting in the final product.

And yet according to a lot of people, Ashley in this game is miles better than the original in both story and gameplay. 😒 It would be a funny joke if all of this wasn't so infuriating.

This Leon is supposed to be the same guy who stupidly told Ben in 2R that he had to talk to Irons first before letting him out, so I can buy that he'd react so incompetently to Mendez showing up. 😅

Maybe this isn't a big deal, but don't you find it strange that in the remake the cops take leon to the village at an inappropriate time at night in an apparently hostile and dangerous place where many people are disappearing (the cop himself gives us this information), in the original it seemed more appropriate for them to go in the morning in cloudy weather, in the remake leon "invades" a house in the middle of the night asking if there is anyone inside and in the original the door is already open so he enters without saying anything, in the remake there's something visibly wrong with the ganado (the red eyes that make him not look human), leon doesn't get suspicious and tries to talk to the ganado while he's "praying" in a low voice, leon doesn't get suspicious and tries to talk to the ganado in spanish again, he doesn't go up to the ganado to understand what's going on and he doesn't even show him ashley's picture like in the original, and then he GOES BACK DOWN TO A HIGHLY SUSPECTED INDIVIDUAL to get a "wallet" from the policeman that was on the ground, for some reason leon just "contemplates" looking at the "wallet" until he "conveniently" looks back at the moment the ganado tries to attack him, in the original the scene makes more sense because the ganados were supposed to look "NORMAL" (in the making off of resident evil 4 og this is pointed out by the developers), the ganados looked more "human", that's why the ganado in the original scene talks to leon in an aggressive way, he looked human, but at the same time there seemed to be something wrong with him because of the way he moved and spoke, and the way leon gets distracted is much better in og since he just looks down while putting ashley's photo in his pocket, he doesn't turn around artificially just because of the script's intrusive indulgence of wanting him to be attacked by surprise, it's all done organically in the original, the ganados were better characterized because they weren't obviously inhuman, while in the remake it's obvious and predictable that they're "zombified" (not the right term, but you get my point).

Maaannnn, lemme tell you, I’ve played A LOT of videogames and THIS is top 3 hardest trophies of all time. This game, in my opinion, is the hardest one out of the three you have to beat. Thank you for making a legit strategy video unlike everyone else who tells you to get the Morris simulator over the web and basically copy the games moves in reverse with the computer on the online version (Confusing asl🙄👎🏾). You my friend, explained each method in detail, showed us step by step how to do each one, and then executed each method PERFECTLY. Even with your awesome video, it still took a long time because the game started picking up on the moves I learned from you😬🤷🏾‍♂️But, nonetheless, I got my trophy thanks to you bro👍🏾💯

Anybody who says "it's just a demo" to justify whatever flaws the demo has (and, by extension, the full game will have) is delusional. It's not advertised as a game in its alpha or beta stage. It's literally called a "demo" (as in a demonstration of what the game is).

Ada is one of the best characters in the entire series. That said, I've no idea who or what the remake's version of the character is supposed to be. Between her poor dialogue and lifeless voice acting, you tend to dread her appearances rather than look forward to them. 10:48 I don't know if it was the actress herself or the voice direction, but it sounds like a Terminator speaking instead of an actual human. 😂

I sometimes wonder why I liked the remake at all because of you're retrospectives. It's a shame how new capcom makes games.

I'm glad you're touching on how the fundamental issues with the new games' Ada-Leon dynamic stem from their mischaracterization from 2's remake. It's pretty frustrating as a long-term fan to see so many newcomers (rightfully) find Leon's attachment to Ada baffling due to how 2's remake rewrote their dynamic to be less romantic and more bitter and hostile. It not only is a disservice to both characters, but also makes one of the emotional through lines of their games fall completely flat because instead of rooting for these two to overcome their differences and consummate their passion, most newcomers are left just confused and uninterested in them interacting. I have a lot more to say about their mischaracterization of Ada, but it suffices to say that removing her charming warmth to play up a bland "dead inside" quality is both lazy and also a pretty dumb misunderstanding of what her 'spy with a heart of gold' archetype actually represented. Ada having a charming personality helps with her role as a seductive spy, but also shows that beyond her cold amoral exterior there's still a redeemable human quality that explains why she is genuinely attracted to altruistic people like Leon. But I suppose for the new RE engine continuity, where everybody is characterized as more bitter and hostile and immature, it's par for the course to have the new Ada be devoid of charm and humanity.

I love this breakdown. Also, did you see that new dead rising deluxe remaster? They weren't done destroying the resident evil franchise so now they moved onto dead rising lol. New Capcom thirst for the spilled blood of their timeless classics is pathological and has innate malice in it. I'm not sure if you played dead rising OG but... To cut it short, it was a hard game. Now they made it easier than a Nintendo game LOL. Capcom sucks.

Also, notice this one detail: Ada tells Leon to "Stop right there", she never told Leon to drop his gun, yet he drops it. Notice the stark contrast between the original's Leon "Following a Ladies lead just isn't my style" in this moment and nu Leon disarming himself on the spot, willingly. They worked really hard to make Leon as incompetent and pathetic as possible. It's a deliberate choice.

It's strange how Ada's character change from the very mission focus Ada from RE2 OG to wisecracking one from RE4 and onward. In the original RE2, she was very cold and mission focus that she didn't crack jokes or anything like that at all to RE4 where it feels like she's trying to match Leon's new personality. I'm not saying she isn't mission focus in RE4 and up, but she honestly feels like she's competing with Leon on being snarky at times.

Bro spends half an hour breaking down a single cutscene, and I loved every single second of it. Great work 👍👍👍

This is my most disliked cutscene in the whole Remake. It cheapens the characters, the setting and the lore. Ada loved Leon because he was a good person, because he genuinely tried to save ppl. How can she just tell him "Leave Ashley, duh". Him being caring is the WHOLE REASON she likes him! And that trashy proposition of *sex* if he gives up on his mission?! WTF?! So modern & cynical. Their relationship seemed so much more honest and nuanced before. I'm appaled! Alaso, if you want to compare the creative talent of OG vs Remake just look at the setting where they meet: - the OG cutscene took place in a bedroom, right after you clear a moonlit, romantic garden (besides the monsters, of course); in the bedroom itself there's a cozy bed, a pefume flask/a ruby mirror, a vanitiy mirror to "freshen up" and there's a dining room next door; - the Remake takes place in a stable storeroom with racks of full of random clutter, cobwebs, creepy suits of armor and a very modest (moldy) dinner table. AND! Leon's line "try using knives next time" pays off when she stabs him after he tries choking her near the end of the game. The Remake era of RE, especially RE4R feels a lot like "cargo cult" - the developers seem to know what beats the players liked, but they either give them nonsensical build-ups or cram in their own stuff that sticks out like a sore thumb, or cheapen/change their context so that it effectively discourages the use of the old-ish mechanics (I'm looking at you stun/melee system). They miss the point so bad, and it's even more infuriating bacause the keep the fun stuff in, so they know how to recognize quality, exept it's their own cheap and perverted version. As always, You bring out some solid points!

The worst things the remake cut out is when the Las Plagas controls Leon's body & chokes Ada. She uses her small knife to get him off, the remake ruined the foreshadowing moment of the word of advice.

Writing wise, it's clear that Capcom told Costello what not to include and omit in the new Remilk, according to his interview.

The camerawork is wobbly and inconsistent in the remilk, the writing was done by Matthew Costello, who also did Doom 3, Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil and RAGE, and those didn't have very good stories.

Hell yeah. Another great video Always a breath of fresh air to see another sample. You can imagine the happiness once the full retrospective is out.

Can you get a save game file to put on a quest 2 to get pro difficulty? I uninstalled after I finished it so I dont get pro option.
