Surprisingly?! It’s literally better than most of European and USA metro! lol London, Roma, Italy, Spain etc it’s totally terrible! USA metro/public system is non existent! NY is just the worse! The only better system I tried is from Scandinavian countries specifically Norway!

I drive under it all the time on my way to New Jersey.

Passenger service was eliminated on the North Shore branch in 1953 and was used for freight for awhile. The South Beach branch was also discontinued in 1953. There was also a spur to the Proctor & Gamble factory which was constructed in 1907. That is where Ivory Soap was manufactured. Proctor & Gamble is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio where it's always been. Also, Eugenius Harvey Outerbridge is named for the "Crossing". It was completed in 1928.

I will say something I really appreciate about Dulles is that the terminals are fully interconnected in that there’s no separate domestic and international zones. So while it may limit autonomy insofar as how it requires using transit vehicles to get around, it does allow you to benefit from the full airport’s amenities which is nice. As someone who often flies out of the Z gates, being able to go eat or hang in the much nicer A-B concourse is quite nice

30 years ago, Dunn Loring was the penultimate station on the Orange Line and was the exact same kind of station as this. Give it some time, things change.

The GWB Bus station I remember bc of the A line approaching 175 St saying: This is, 175 St George Washington Bridge Bus Station.

It's all built for the future. Two elevators, a thousand parking spots, one stop above Dulles? There is gonna be a whole bunch of transit-oriented development there now. It's overbuilt NOW, yes. But it won't be in 30 years, will it? It's not like the nation's capital will wane in population.

i think this station would get more use if it was called "sterling" station instead of "loudoun gateway" since sterling residents don't know how easy it is to get to and end up going to whiele instead. it looks like a pain, but in reality it's just a trip down sterling blvd and a detour through the warehouse complex; or a quick drive down 606. at any rate, we have a ton of "affordable" housing being built all over sterling, and from what i understand there's supposed to be some apartment complexes being built around the gateway. i think down the road it'll get more traction. personally i'm thankful to have it because drivers around here lost their minds over the pandemic.

They need to redevelop the metro station, make it mixed zoning, add housing, shops, make it a walk able area, but I'm not even sure that is possible with the noise the highway generates

Also... I think Staten Island in general, especially the neighborhoods around the rail line, are still more or less 'urbanized' & 'dense' haha! It might seem very 'suburban' by NYC standards. But compared to many other major cities it is not. In fact, if I remembered correctly, the population density of Staten Island is even greater than here in Baltimore, haha!

Wondering if you drew the conclusion of 'not many pedestrians on the sidewalks of Baltimore' mostly from what you see from the train haha! Living here I got to say I think there still is a decent amount of foot traffic here. In some areas at least. However, most of these areas where it's actually walkable & people actually walk are... NOT served by either rail transit, unfortunately

In Brazil, elections have been digital for over 20 years and the results come out in hours.. In the US, people still use paper money, in Brazil we pay for everything with cell phones, smart watches and facial recognition. Even buying things on street market. Spare me your imperialist ignorance. The metro in NY stink, is dirty, with homeless people living there, full of rats, dangerous with crimes all the time and addicted people asking for money or with mental illness.. A shit hole under the ground.

Maybe no development because it's directly under the flight path for the airport that is across the road

Ive taken this train 5 days a week for 3 years and I assure you this is 100% the worst tram system is the worst in the country maybe the world. There are so many things wrong with it I don’t have the time nor possibly the space to list them all. It’s horrendous.

Dulles has definitely gotten a lot better than it used to be. Security used to be a nightmare but the new x-ray machines have really sped things up. I had no idea C and D were supposed to be temporary. Why would you even build a temporary concourse like that? Really explains why it's so crappy. And since I'm somehow always flying out of D I have to take the Mobile Lounges and they're never as empty as the shots I see here lol. You get packed in like sardines, especially if you're taking the ones to immigration. I never even knew that they could raise up to to let you directly disembark. That's actually cool and if they still did that I wouldn't mind so much.

Never thought I'd have the chance to talk about the Minimetro but here we are! I actually live in Perugia and have been using it since high school, and many people including me see it as a waste of money that could have been MUCH better spent on anything else Keep in mind perugia is a city of 160,000 inhabitants Just like any gadgetbahn it does a couple specific things really well while being impractical on the issues that actually matter. The system exists specifically for the historic city center on top of the hill, problem is that the city center really isn't where the city actually lives and breathes. It's where the tourists and some university students go, but it doesn't really serve the actual lively sections around the hills and in the valley The cable system is absolutely the issue. It's complex and stretched for more than 3 kilometers, which leads to exhorbitant costs that force the whole system to close at 9 PM, and even on special occasions like UmbriaJazz it never stays open beyond 11 PM. The grades have been made to be steep, one can't help but wonder if more tunneling would have allowed a more efficient steel rail system to get below the historic section, making for a dramatically more cost effective and useful system that could have actually been expanded since conventional rail is much easire to expand than a wheel-cable contraption And the main problem about it is that it feels like a vanity project. The costs involved have always been astronomical, and all that money should have just gone to more Buses, which the city ABSOLUTELY needs right now. Outsiders need to understand that the actual jobs, schools, universities and activities are outside the city center, far from any connection to the Minimetro, and the suburbs are even worse. Buses are way too infrequent, with a TOP frequency of 30-40 minutes! That is simply insane, no wonder the car ownership rate here is a staggering 85%. TL;DR The Minimetro doesn't actually connect meaningful parts of the city, and that insane amount of money would have been better spent on making buses more frequent and convenient to give people an actual alternative to driving. It does get a couple things right like frequency, but fails at being anything more than a cool ride you'll never actually use

Happy your trains are front facing and America is not crowded. But in the Philippines, Railway is living hell

getting off a 14 hour international flight and then having to be stuffed like a sardine into one of those people movers is one of my most hated things about flying into Dulles. It seems that rather than having two of them available after a flight lands so that you can have a comfortable experience, their standard operating procedure is to literally stuff us into just one of them so that we are shoulder to shoulder and tripping all over each other. absolutely horrid.

DASH Bus seating is very very similar to ART Bus the transit company for Arlington share similar seating although they have a digital dotted scrolling information screen inside the bus. And every typical school morning. Students have to mash the Request Stop.

12:49 that´s very useful, it saved me several times, some are actually free, you leave your credit card number when you sign up, but if you return it in 24 hours it is free of charge. Given the unstable climate of São Paulo, especially in summer, when storms come out of nowhere it can be really helpful.
