Hi All. In this video I'm filleting the stonker rainbow trout that I caught on the trout season opening day. It's the way I do it and I hope it helps others on how to go about it. I'll be doing another video soon on how to prepare a trout for the smoker and then go through the smoking process. Cheers, Kraza........

    On initially cleaning the fish, why didn't you remove the gills? They already appear discoloured. Gills are the first part of the fish to go off and should always be removed. Otherwise a very interesting video, as usual. I have never seen a filleting job done in this way.

    • @FlyFishingwithKraza.-to4lf

      Hi Gary. I was not aware that the gills need to be removed. This trout was put into the freezer when I got home the day it was caught. Did some research and you are correct. The gills should be removed as well as the intestines. I found this way of filleting saved the most meat when I did my research. Glad you found the video interesting. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Kraza......

    Thanks again. Tullaroop is favourite lake of mine, I've fly-fished it for 20 years, and yes it's definitely worth perserverance (although it's been very quiet this year). It's interesting hearing you talk about that indicator/bung fishing, I've tried it a couple of times with no luck yet.

      Thanks for the comment. Sure is a nice lake. I fished the east banks as they were forecasting a north easterly. But was more a North to North Westerly, which made casting a challenge with the high banks. I've caught a few good trout at Moorabool using this technique. It does take some patience, but the trout I've caught with this technique were 50cm plus in size. Cheers, Kraza.

    • @FlyFishingwithKraza.-to4lf
      @FlyFishingwithKraza.-to4lf 2 місяці тому

      Hi Roy. I usually take the Ballan Daylesford Rd turn off from the Western Hwy towards Daylesford. Then turn left onto Spargo Creek Rd( It's where the closed Pub is). It's about 5 to 6km to the lake. Lake is on your right. It''s a big lake. You can't fish on the wall. You can park at the Moorabool Reservoir park or there are a few spots to park before the park. You can also access the lake from Forbes Rd if you like. Usually about a 200 metre walk to get to the water. The terrain is pretty flat and trees are far back enough to allow for good fly casting. Hope this helps and good luck if you go. Let me know if you get onto any? Cheers, Kraza.

They did know where I could get some fly gear, but I had brought my own flies from home. If you want to look them up, they were located at 95 Marine Parade, Southport. Hope this helps? Good luck with your fly fishing up there. Cheers, Kraza.

      Great. Glad you are enjoying my videos. You were right, Molesworth had poor access for fly fishing. Cheers, Kraza.

      Tungsten beaded Hares ear type fly. It's one I created and call the Brunette. Cheers, Kraza.

    A half decent video. Would be good to see a bit more wild trout fishing rather than the human-influenced-stocked Goulburn. Subscribed ✌

      Thanks for the comment. I'll try and hit some other streams soon. The small river in this video was not producing the catches I thought it would. But that's what happens from time to time. The Goulburn does have a lot of wild trout too. In fact most of the Browns I've caught excluding the stonkers have been wild. Comments like yours are encouraging for me to make more videos. Cheers, Kraza.
