Riding motorcycles is my hobby. This channel is merely a means to put my videos out where people can find them. Where it goes from here will be interesting to watch.
Tom Clark - Adventures On Two Wheels
This is a short talk I did at Intellitect (where I work) on riding motorcycles and having conversations with people along the way. The talk is patterned after Ted Talks in that they're short presentations usually about one particular thing.

KTM 390 Endcap Replacement
Переглядів 29 тис.3 роки тому
I'm replacing the endcap on my stock KTM 390 Adventure exhaust with one made by Best Dual Sport Bikes. The sole purpose is to make the bike sound better. The endcap by BDSB is very well made, but the KTM muffler is an inexpensive product and thus this install is a bit "fiddly". But the end result is awesome! I've been asked to provide detail about the end cap itself. It is manufactured and sold...

KTM 390 Adventure Rear Brake Pad Change
Переглядів 2,3 тис.3 роки тому
Changing disc brake pads are simple on any vehicle, but I don't know how much more simple it could get than on the KTM 390 Adventure. I swap out the original organic pads for EBC HH sintered pads (FA213HH).
KTM 390 Adventure PowerLet Install
Переглядів 9 тис.3 роки тому
I show you how to remove the standard "cigarette lighter" power outlet on a 2020 KTM 390 Adventure and replace it with a PowerLet outlet. PowerLet is a much more secure method of powering your accessories on a motorcycle. I've used them on multiple motorcycles and I've never had anything pop loose like I did with a standard "cigarette lighter" style.

This is a short video with some scenes from my trip on the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route from September 2020. We started in Mountain Home, Idaho and finished in Sandpoint. It's a beautiful route that would have been even better had there not been fires in the area. Regardless we had a great time!

I had just watched another video on how to do this and it looked a right work up. I'm so please I found your vid. Thanks Tom. Dutch in UK
Thank you! You have given me the confidence to do this myself.
thanks for the video,.. looking forward to see more videos for F900xr
Good info Tom I’m gearing up for a fly fishing adventure tour on my WR! Question: what’s your opinion on the Mosco Mule 40? I’m a minimalist and think that the 40 w a Klime backpack should be sufficient. I haven’t purchased it yet, still doing a little more research. Thank you, Dave
Hello, thank you very much, this is a very practical solution. Many motorcycles could take an example.
Hi. Excelent vídeo!!!! Do you believe that if you additionally eliminate the resonator it would also increase the exhaust sound too much?
I came looking for the steps to access the power port... check. Despite the fact that it's been flaky from the beginning, I was planning to simply replace the "cigarette" port. I didn't know about the PowerLet option. Thank you!
How do you not burn your stuff with your exhaust pipe?
I mean, even if it sounded as good as a new exhaust system, it stilll looks so ugly that it needs to be tossed
Thanks for this, Tom. Really helpful. Curious if you are using OEM filter and where you prefer to buy them from?
Looks like it may be similar on the 900R model, with the exception that the silver tank plastic may be under the side plastics and that they'd have to come out as well
Great explanation, Tom. Many thanks from Germany/Saarland near the french border...🤠
Hello, I just received these boots yesterday. I’m a long time street rider, although I did have a V-Strom 650 for many years. I haven’t used them outside the house yet but this is my initial impression: in comparison to my old Sidi street boots these will take some getting used to. They are heavy, clunky, hot and very stiff. I tried to get my toe under the shifter and it was very difficult. So I loosened up the buckles as much as possible and it may be okay, but still difficult. I’ve read there is no room to move the shifter up (and still function) on the new KLR650 but I will try. The boots are very sturdy and light-years ahead of my old boots in terms of safety. I wear a size 9.5 US, and the size 43 fit perfect, with lots of room for my toes to move up and down. My biggest concern is they will be too hot, my socks were damp after wearing them for less than an hour in the house. And, I live in the Phoenix, Arizona area so…hmm.
Yeah, if you're in Arizona where the weather gets REALLY hot, then a boot that breathes more might be better. It's true that I haven't worn them in excessively hot temperatures, so I can't speak to that. But I've never had a sweaty foot problem before.
That's not bad at all. I hope the new F900GS air filter service is similar!
Thank you! This helped me so much. I never did anything like this before and was successful thanks to this video.
Glad it helped!
Hope these boots are still treating you well! Any updates on waterproofness?
Waterproofing is still holding up strong. My feet stay dry all the time. And still comfortable.
@@OldTomRides thanks for the response! I ended up picking up a pair. Been super happy with them so far. I appreciate the video!
Thanks! This helped a lot!
Glad it helped!
Do you still have your motorcycle? Any issues how many miles do you go on the highway? Thank you
No, I sold it a couple years ago. Great bike and I never had any issues with it. My thoughts on it are on my website: mtcsw.com
I appreciate the time you took for this.
Hey quick question, is this only for the XR or does the f900r work the same way?
As far as I know the filter replacement is the same for both models since they are very common. However, I don't know that for sure.
Sounds good ! 🇰🇿 👍
Great video.. i purchased my wr250r new in April of 2021..just curious do you still have yours?
No, I sold it a couple years ago. It was a great bike, but I wanted something a little better on the highway, but still has some dirt chops. Bought a 2020 KTM 390 Adventure and have been very happy with it.
@@OldTomRidesthat's a great bike but a little cramped for my 6ft2 frame
You did it a wr250r? How was it in fuel?
I replaced the stock tank with a 3 gallon one and had no troubles at all. The BDR organization maps the routes out such that you should be able to do fine as long as you have around 150 miles on a tank or better.
@@OldTomRidesok..did you have do any suspension work to handle the extra weight? I'm just curious because I'm thinking of setting my wr250r up for that as I live in Bonners ferry idaho
I noticed you have Washington plates.. just curious where abouts do live and do you still have the wr250r?
I live in Spokane, but sold the bike about two years ago. I replaced it with a 2020 KTM 390 Adventure to have something better on the highway and still had dirt capability. I'm very happy with it.
Why not just adjust shifter? problem solved it's what I've done on all my bikes, general bike setup for yourself
gooooood❤
Hey quick question, is this only for the XR or does the f900r work the same way?
@@tomatosofficial1124 ua-cam.com/video/K63bGDaN2fU/v-deo.htmlsi=KfuybvCTuMHWWt6X
To the best of my knowledge the F900R is set up the same way, but I've never fiddled with the R model, so don't quote me! :-)
Would have been a great video if you had zoomed in. Kinda doesn't help me at all as it is
This video is exactly what I needed to self-service my 2020 f900xr for this riding season. Short and to the point. Thank you so much!
Hey quick question, is this only for the XR or does the f900r work the same way?
BUEN DÍA. TENGO LA MISMA MOTO. DONDE PUEDO ADQUIRIR ESE PRODUCTO?. GRACIAS

✌✌
I can’t get the old usb assembly apart. I’m using the channellocks like you are but the damn thing is tight. And the plastic is super sharp.
Sorry for not seeing this right away. I hope you were able to get that nut off. I don't know why they make that so tight. I think the first time I did this I had to clamp the plastic piece down somehow so I could apply more pressure. When I put it back together, I made it tight but not so much that I couldn't get it back off. I've taken the bike on a lot of off-road trips and it has remained solid.
Good, relevant review. Your background music is very distracting and a no go!.
Yeah, I stopped putting background music on my other videos for that exact reason.
I’m 66 & 5’6” tall Love the bike, agree that concept seat was a great mod. Need bigger fuel tank. Live near the TAT at Port Orford. OHV prospect is my favorite riding spot.
Thank you, you saved me a lot of cursing as I had started to remove the wrong screws...had one of those stupid fastener clips from the faux gps mount fall into the empty cavity behind the TFT. Cheers!
Seems simple enough, I might give it go myself. Thanks for the video!
Hi Tom, thank you for this video. Which rack have you mounted?
I mounted the street rack from SW-Motech. I also ordered an adaptor for my Givi topbox which works very well. I like that it is removeable so that the bike retains a clean look when I don't need the topbox on.
Wow. Really well thought out design by BMW. Wish my Yamaha was that easy! Great video too, brother.
Hey quick question, is this only for the XR or does the f900r work the same way?
nice boots
Nice 👌
I pulled my end cap off and used a band saw to cut the small pipe off at the weld. Now it is nice and big. Pop rivit it back on and good to go.
Nice job. What tyres are you guys using? Also waiting on the Terra Evo water crossing results. Cheers👍
Bridgestone Adventurecross AX41. Was very happy with the results. Worked great on the COBDR in mud, rocks, and sand. Those boots - I love them! 100% waterproof. At the first crossing, my buddy had thought he had lost something so we waded in to check. Dry feet. Plus the first day on the COBDR we were in a lot of mud. Dry feet there too.
I have the Forma ADV low and I have to do the same thing with shifters on all my bikes. I move my foot back out from under the shifter if I don't anticipate shifting. No issues.
Hi. I'm 130kg. Is the suspension good enough to my weight?
I'll be honest - I think you'd want to upgrade the suspension on the WR.
Hi from Ukraine 🇺🇦!! Good video
You never got back to us with promised opinions of the mod. Please do so, I would love to hear your thoughts
You are right! I didn't really get back to you guys and I apologize for that. The butt-dyno can't tell any difference in horsepower, but I didn't really expect to notice anything. I've had it on there for over a year now and love it. It just sounds nice - throatier. I took the bike down to do the Colorado BDR in September of 2021. By the time I got back, the heat had changed the color from flat black to more of a dark antique bronze. So that's the only negative response about it and honestly, I don't care about that. Let me know if you have other questions.
Is it any different from the standard one? Mine's not working for some reason
The standard is a normal one as you would see in a car. The problem is that when you insert something, there's nothing to lock it in very well. The PowerLet has a definite locking mechanism so that on rough terrain, nothing is popping out. I've been using them on my bikes for years.
I have these now, couple weeks. I have found that the height from base of sole to top of toe box is rather large and it make it difficult to get my toe under the shift lever, even I have raised the shift lever on my BMW F 850 GSA as high as practical. And I sometimes am unable to engage next gear up. I have started using the lip of the sole to engage the shifter as opposed to the top of toe box.
I agree that the toe box is tall. I got used to it and having had them now for a couple years, I'm pretty happy with the boots. But I can't leave my foot under the shifter like I used to.
Hi. I was thinking that using the lip of the soul to shift might be a solution. Are you still using this method and how is it going?
The holes on my all lined up... I guess I got lucky. However, the inner pipe on my was so not-round that I ended up cutting the 1/2" of the end off leaving an ever-so-slight gap between the inner pipe and end cap. Still sounds great though.
So how were the Terra Evo-X Dry on the CBDR trip?
They were great! Especially when I fell and the bike pinned my leg against the ground. Softer boots might have left me with some foot damage, but I was unharmed. Dry on all water crossings too. I'm very happy with these boots.
@@OldTomRides Thanks good to know. I'm deciding between these and the Sidi Crossfire 3s which are a much stiffer and a moto X type boot, so in theory more protective, especiallyin the ankle area. I tried the Sidi X-Power, which is similar to the Crossfire, but they did not fit real well.
Wow! So simple! Thank you very much for this!
Thinking we awe to get on spacklin walls and ceiling. Cost ya 3 cases of beer. Great demo on end cap. Thanks for the heads up.
