Hardwick Road and the 5’s. Spent my childhood there in the 1960s and rode the buses frequently! 🙂👍
A little trip down memory lane for you then Thank you for watching
Now is bus
She try probably to ask you or tell you if that part of the street is Pamela , she refers probably to the street . 🤔
Yes I figured she wasn’t actually telling me about Pamela lol it did make me double take though and made me laugh
@ I imaging 🤭😀, but yes she try to say that , by the way i enjoy your videos 👍
Don't loose sleep over it, trying to work out what is going on in the mind of some other drivers isn't worth thinking about. See some pretty weird, illogical, and downright dangerous driving almost every time I'm out on the roads now.
Yeah I definitely don’t overthink it It make me laugh You talk to anyone you will never find a bad driver everyone thinks they are a great driver Then you see the things some do I just think hmm good driver hey
@@Thebusdriverphotographer The main thing is to keep calm, and not let it affect ones own driving. Keep up the good work, and the videos. Found it interesting when you showed some of the devices in the cab, by the way. Can you give us a full cab walk/talk through sometime? Subject to company rules of course. Can understand why the company and indeed drivers might not want everything in the cab explained to joe public for safety and security reasons.
Luckily I've stopped having meltdowns in the last year, they used to happen every few months until I was 14. But when I started drinking I found out that's when the meltdowns happened. I used to end up having to be restrained from hitting things or myself and I was a unintelligible mess. Luckily this hasn't happened for over a year now.
I’m glad to hear you’ve not had a meltdown for a while Looking back to my younger years I could be extremely aggressive thankfully I’ve got that aggression under control now Looking back it all makes sense now Now meltdowns take other forms
@@Thebusdriverphotographer Cheers👍 I'm glad you can control them more now and yeah, they take many forms
Lovely video mate, never knew the 5B's went to Brighton Station, very interesting! Have a good week.
Thank you Yes the first few in the morning goes via Brighton station not sure what time the last one is think about 7 am
Very nice to meet you Darren 🙌🏼 you’ll be very welcome here 🥳 keep shining ☀️
Thanks mate was nice to have a chat
Hi Darren. Remember when old Fred fell asleep at a set of lights in the middle of Brighton? I think it was Roger Bonifave who told me that one... I broke a freshly rebuilt engine on a school bus on the way back from Leamington to Rugby. That was on a fast road. And on my coming off trip. Alex
No I hadn’t heard about Fred falling asleep lol It’s always your coming off trip lol
How is everything down there anyway? It's been just over 5 years since I left.
@ pretty much the same as ever mate where are you now
@Thebusdriverphotographer I'm up in Rugby with Stagecoach Midlands. It's pretty nice, imagine every supervisor being like Royston was. We've got some nice out of town runs as well.
@ that’s good mate
5b
Yeah 5B
I'm in the situation and occupation, and at 51 I now know why I've struggled all my life. I've been to my GP and seen a specialist nurse and I was asked to complete a neurodiversity screener which showed high traits in Autism and ADHD + others. I am now deciding whether to go through an official diagnosis. 👍
Same as me I’ve been waiting since 2018 for my formal assignment However you can research and put into place strategies that will help you You can say your autistic if it helps you and others to understand you There are many self diagnosed To me it’s clear from the research I’ve done and what the docs said
Hey mate, hope you're having a good week so far. Just a quick question, do you ever work on night routes or do you only do daytime routes? Thanks!
Thanks I’m good I only work mornings now
This one broke down whilst I was on it on Saturday
Your doing great ,I've just come across your video and subscribed, lovely to meet you 🫶🏻
Thank you I really appreciate it
Most people in most jobs have an escape mode when workplace stress gets to them. They can go off to grab a coffee, visit another area of their works, maybe even just take a two minute walk, or some other distraction. But you bus drivers have no such luxury and have to sit it out until the end of your journey, despite all that is going on around you. Little wonder that on your day off you just feel like chilling out on your own. Nothing wrong with that at all, but try to at least get in a 20 minute brisk walk, it can be very therapeutic. Thanks for sharing your experiences, I'm sure we can all relate to it. We are creatures of habit, and most of us feel more settled with a routine.
Thank you I agree most people feel pressures and have there escape modes It came to my attention that some of my viewers have special needs many of those may well have autism So I decided to create a playlist of videos sharing my own experiences In the hope to raise awareness to Neurotypical of some of the invisible struggles neurodivergent people face on a daily basis And also to show that just because you’re neurodivergent doesn’t mean you can’t have a life but that you just need to find ways around those struggles Also to let people who know me know why I am the way I am My hope is that making these videos we can make life better for everyone It was quite a big decision to make these videos and open up publicly
Interesting and thought provoking as always. Its good to have an insight into the world of others - have a great weekend (whats left)
Thank you
Really nice and well explained video make. I hope you have a good weekend! 👍
Thank you
What is the shift pattern and times? How many sat and Sundays do you have off a month
Depends on your rota The 5 day I think 1 Saturday and maybe 2 Sundays off a month with 1 4 day weekend off a month (I could be wrong on this) been a while since I’ve been on the main 5 day Shifts range from 0430 in the morning to finishing at around 0100 am 4 day rota I think is the same as 5 day except you get an extra day off with a 6 day long weekend a month
@Thebusdriverphotographer is the 4 day rota hard to get on? Are new drivers put at the bottom of the barrel?..
@@elliot7205 I think it’s easier now a days Drivers who have been there less than a year have already got on it It all comes down to if there’s a space or not At the time you ask to go on the list Obviously there is a list for all the different rotas so as a new driver you’ll join the back of any list Once your at your garage and get a taste of the job and the hours and what each rota is You’ll then be able to decide which rotas best suits you and join the lists for those rotas
@@Thebusdriverphotographer when doing the middle shift what is the earliest you can be done for? can you be home for tea time?
@ the shifts start and finish at all times of day If you’ve an early middle ie say starting between 7 and 9 yeas you could be home But if starting 10 11 12 then maybe not
If you drive over 50 miles you go under eu driving rules
This bloke is the last man left in Britain with a Cockney accent. Once he kicks the bucket that particular accent dies with him because there are no young people in London who talk like him to continue that particular accent. Thats why the Glaswegians and the Scousers will always be way smarter than the Londoners. They both understood that accents must be passed down. They dont happened hap hazardly.
I like the interesting drivers room debate from last week. Could be a great source for discussions on here. I am mainly here for bus content I suppose but love the variety. I also enjoyed the walk you did while on holiday. Keep up the great content. Been a lot of thought provoking content lately
Thank you I really appreciate that and I’m glad your enjoying my content
9.5 hours isnt long. Go be a truck driver thats long hours
@@philm4682 yes truck and coaches are on the same driving restrictions Obviously uk domestic rules is 10 hours driving truck and coach is 9 hours driving per day but both can be spread over 16 hours I think it is which I believe is more common with HGV However the main difference is we are carrying people with no seat belts and could also be standing where as HGV the cargo is somewhat less valuable This in itself adds a certain amount of pressure
Capital punishment is a terrible idea, you never teach people not to do wrong by doing wrong to them
Government sponsored murder is not acceptable.
They can keep building houses they can build more prisons
Happy birthday 🎂
Thank you
Coffee?? Should be champers on your 50th. :) 1:11 1:16
Haha I recorded this this morning so defo no champagne lol Plus got work tomorrow morning And I gave up drinking alcohol after finding out it literally kills the brain My brains messed up enough without me killing neurons lol
Routines are a very complicated one personally, until 6 years ago I used to go into anger when plans were suddenly changed. However, this has happened many times so luckily, I've got used to it but it wasn't easy. Ever year I had to see the same people at the same time otherwise I couldn't cope but it changed thank god.
Thank you for sharing Yes routines are complicated But the thing with routine is they are created So if the is a consistent change to a particular routine although difficult to handle at the start that change becomes the new routine if that makes sense
@@Thebusdriverphotographer 👍Exactly, consistent chaos becomes a new routine
I saw you driving on the number 5 bus service
Must of been overtime I’m mainly on the 5Bs now
Just had to Google Neurodivergent .. You've always been a good human that's all that matters to me
Thanks mate
I've struggled with heaps of diagnoses, PTSD insomnia, to name a few and theres only one way out of all of this pain. Have you tried Jesus Christ? He delivered me from all of my mental health issues. Hes reall and he wants a relationship with you because he loves you. He lives you so much he made me send this message to you. Look I know that people say hes not for me or I've tried religion and didnt like it but please believe me when I say if you ask him to take away your pain he will. Please just forget religion forget church and tey Jesus Christ. Please I honestly wouldnt be alive today if it wasnt for him. Please consider it I wouldnt write this to you if I didnt think it was true. Please just dont knock it before you try it. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have on how to go forward❤☦
I’m glad you’ve found your faith I have my own beliefs which are actually based on science and neuroscience I’m not going to go into that in the comments section
@@Thebusdriverphotographer Well I believe God was the first scientist and if you look and study the work done by the early science leaders they all believed in God whilst trying to disprove him most of them came to the conclusion that He must be real based on the universe and space and the earth itself it's worth a study honestly

Yeah stagecoach tried to prevent it… I didn’t realise they tried for the whole of the country though, I was under the impression it was for greater Manchester as the Mayor had been pushing for this for years. What it’s meant now is that Metroline with no knowledge of Manchester and the surrounding areas have come in and will run around 40% of greater Manchesters bus network.
They may well of been focusing on Manchester But the knock on affects now we know affects the rest of the country
U seem ok to me.try not to overthink things . N theres a women out there for u 100 percent will happen for u .

sadly there is no evidence of neurodivergent or typical - these are attempts to reframe DSM disorders that lack all scientific validity and reliability - so many resources to mention but see psychiatrist Sami Timimi's book Insane Medicine -free version over at mad in America 'masking' is completely normal and most everyone does it and we often have comfort zones. Neurobabble.
So there is science proving a neurodivergent brain literally works differently to a neurotypical brain in fact there’s a lot of research on this Although the terms are quite broad I use neurodivergent instead of ASD simply because I prefer it You are correct everyone wears a mask for different situations to hide internal pain and so on The difference is an ASD mask is put on simply to fit in To suppress there own natural tendencies Not just to hide the pain of the past Thank you for your opinion And for watching It’s good to get different points of view it helps people make up there own minds
@@Thebusdriverphotographer Sadly there is nothing in science showing what you claim. There are all sorts of sensationalist claims, based on spurious correlations made in the media in order to generate clicks to sell consumers to advertisers. Sadly no one reads the retraction's and challenges, they don't sell. Consider this, when anyone goes to a psychiatrist absolutely nothing is discovered in the brain or the body objectively leading to an accurate diagnosis, what is known in the rest of medicine as aetiology or proximal cause. Its a purely subjective process this is why the DSM lacks all scientific validity and reliability. Its like going to the doctors and getting a diagnosis of say diabetes without any blood tests to determine blood sugar/glucose levels - why is this important because many different diseases, disorders of body and brain have similar symptoms profiles to concrete objective measurable data must be gathered for an accurate diagnosis. Now of course, we as human beings are all completely different and we all struggle and work places, schools etc are often toxic for us and so we suffer - for me these ought to be referred to as cultural disorders not personal disorders and we ought to be making the world a better place not forcing square pegs into round holes and slapping people unscientific DSM labels and most often leads to harmful prescribed drugs.
Ignorant much?
I recommend wearing sunglasses more, you rock them and can make social situations easier.
Thank you I’m not sure I rock them lol They can make social situations easier Ok I’m not sure how that would work but gotta be worth a go
Darren, Blunt, Honesty, speaking out aloud can be a good thing, but the way the people are today, Truth often hurts, Don't change who you are.
Well there are somethings I’d change if I could but I agree people are changing
I'm so pleased you're honest with this mine are/were: hair rubbing on my neck (like tags), crowds (used to be), mushy food, sticky or messy hands, touch used to be an issue but train noises too for some reason. You're examples are very similar 😭 so thanks for uploading this.
Yes mushy and sticky hands yeah hard to handle I’m glad you enjoyed it and got something from it Thank you for watching
@@Thebusdriverphotographer 👍 Thanks again for sharing
Thats interesting mate. But i am sure not everyone within the ASD spectrum has the same issue with tardiness. They may be more bothered by other people being late rather than themselves, or not at all. The constant watching of the clock could be interpreted more on the OCD or anxiety side of things.
But what you say about structure is also of interest. It might not be the lateness that causes anxiety, its the threat to your structure that lateness causes that is the issue. ASD is very structure heavy indeed
This is very true And all neurodivergent people are different as with every neurotypical people are OCD I’m not sure I generally don’t suffer from that apart from if I have bank notes in my wallet they have to be in a certain order and the correct way around
You could be very right with this If my routine gets disrupted this has negative affects Especially if it’s a sudden change that can really disrupt me to the point of a rage Which as I’m naturally very calm can catch people and me by surprise I’m well aware of this So it would make sense this would cause a certain amount of anxiety Like I say I’m still learning and finding out about this stuff
Ok, so here's my share of senses working overtime: Above all I HATE the Messenger notification sound. That bell drills into my right ear. Which is a bit odd: we have a bell sound before every bus stop announcement and I don't give an F about it, or my grandparents have an old clock and I enjoy the reverb when it strikes the hours. That Messenger sound must have some weird frequency I guess. I also highly dislike when people talk loudly, constantly or with a monotonous voice. Same thing with sounds coming from their phones, whether it's music, videos or voices - not only are they tiring and distracting, sometimes I mistake them for a problem with a bus. Most people cooperate when I ask them to be quieter, but some begin to act like it was you who was making the problems and not them. Had a passenger like that just yesterday... Not to mention whistling drive belts, faulty AC blowers, hissing seat suspension, rattling cabs, slamming doors, same error repeating every few seconds, boots on wet floor, falling bags etc. I feel a bit nervous when there's a person standing next to the cab, unless it's a fellow bus driver or a kid fascinated with the drive. But what makes me feel really weird is when there's someone standing near the front wheels and staring in my direction (or so I think). I don't like when my hands catch the smell of cigarretes from the steering wheel and I don't like touching the dashboard cleaned with Plak or similar liquids. Black pen makes me feel a bit dizzy. As a kid I didn't like formal clothes, but luckily it has changed. I'm a picky eater in general and in particular I'm at war with coconut, it takes me a lot of effort to eat a tomato and I don't fancy combining fish with potato (gonna starve if I ever visit the UK xD).
Thank you for sharing It take nerve to share stuff like this
Olá. Tudo bem? Também sou motorista de ônibus e neurodivergente. Grande abraço desde Portugal!
Thank you I really appreciate it
I'm exactly the same, can't stand being late if I'm running dead to depot after my trip or its not my hand over trip I don't mind being late the minute I've got to hand over I get this anxiety and I start feeling stress as I don't want to make that driver late, I worry if they're going to be annoyed and I even go to the extent of fearing I'll be known as a "late driver" (not that this matters, we're all there to do the same job and we all experience different issues on trips). I haven't found a way to cope with this yet and it's draining... But I like the job thats what keeps me going I guess.
I know what you mean I don’t worry about what other drivers think As 98% of the time I hand over on time so if I am late it was unavoidable and chances are everything is late Although having said that I suppose my time keeping is driven by anxiety But the number 1 priority is safety No matter how late I get safety always comes first But yeah the feeling of anxiety is very very real
Great update 👍, if you start at 5am you must be up 3.30am or 4am, bed by 8pm ish, you're a professional in your uniform that flicks a different switch helps you cope 💪you're not weard, you care that's all what you like when in work late or not doing your route at all, take care Drive 👍
Thank you I get up at 3am every day I’m working In bed by 8pm
Good for you mate. You are doing what is right for you and that is what matters.

Looks a far ole commute too work ? But am sure easier with ya car? My commute to bus depot approx 12m each way about 30/40m ish each way but maybe staying same company but swapping to nearer depot
Yeah it’s much easier with a car The commute adds so much time on the day Makes sense to work from the nearest depot
Do you put the tachograph unit to "OUT" out of scope when operating the bus on GB or NI domestic hours
We don’t have a tacho in the buses we only have duty sheets The only buses with tacho are also used for coaching If we get one of those for bus work we don’t touch the tacho unit
@@Thebusdriverphotographer all the buses in the company I work for has tacho units. If I'm doing domestic work ie Service / school etc I put it to out on unit, if I'm doing express or private hires I use card. Don't know if I'm right to put it to out no one can answer me Lol not even the company 🤣
I don’t know much about tacho As far as I’m aware all work has to be recorded That’s going off a couple of HGV channels I follow But I could be way off on that
From a fellow person with autism - who also likes transport, I think it would be great to hear about neurodiversity from your perspective. I was diagnosed at age 8, so to hear from someone diagnosed later would be interesting. Did you always suspect? What made you look into it? Is your career and neurodiversity related? I know a lot of this will be personal. Please keep up the great work and your day by day event updates. :-)
Thank you I’m looking at answering and talking about these in future videos so stay tuned
Great update was there passengers on over heating bus 😉and contacts how do you find them, then the sun glasses prescribed or regular normal lense 🤓, how will the autism affect your bus licence 🤔remember be careful out there 👍
Thank you I had 1 person on who quickly got off after hearing my radio call lol yeah contacts are fine the sunglasses are just normal lenses not prescription any diagnosis shouldn’t affect my license at all it’s something I was born with and been driving buses with no problem for over 20 years the company knows which is why I now have my own line so if there was going to be a problem it would of come about by now
@@Thebusdriverphotographer that's good of your boss to help you out 👌, I had laser on my eyes must be 25 year's now, expensive but looking back 👀😂, best thing i ever done 60 next year, reading glass now 🤷, good news about the medical 👍stay safe Drive 👍
are there going to be new buses coming to the Brighton & Hove buses routes
Yes we’ve got some coming to Conway at some point Coming from London I believe Going to be rebranded first
Great start to a shift😂 you were right to call the fire brigade because at one if my local depots 3 E400 hybrids caught fire within a year. Those 800 series buses have replaced the 6's Volvos - awful things those streetdecks. You should definitely do content on neurodiversity imo, 8 years ago I got diagnosed with high functioning asd so it's nice to see someone open up👍
Thank you yes I totally agree about the street deckers I think most would agree lol and thank you for your opinion on me doing videos on ASD been thinking about it for some time and now I’ve been put on my own line I’m being asked all sorts of questions and if my experience can help and support others then I’m happy to make the videos
@@Thebusdriverphotographer Yeah good for you, I'd enjoy that
what a fantastic explanation I have been trying for many years to explain just what the bus drivers intuition or sixth sense is and how it works and you my friend have nailed it flat, it also grows with experience and saved me many times from no end of (misshapenness,) is this really a word! well it fits so Im going with it, I once did service work for stagecoach in south wales but now got out of the rat race and only do school contracts for a local company, stay safe my friend and keep these vlogs coming Im a big fan,
Thank you for your kind words I appreciate it Neuroscience and hypnosis along with psychology are all interests of mine I have been studying for a couple of years now along with human behaviour and various forms of therapy So I felt comfortable explaining what the 6th sense actually is Thank you for watching I’m glad you enjoyed it
Hey Darren, Before I clicked on the video, I looked at views, it said 22, yet when video came on, only said 10 views, lol
Oh really strange lol
