Everything Metroid Dread Tells Us About Metroid 6
Sure, Metroid 6 may be far, far away, but that doesn't mean Mercury Steam and Nintendo aren't working on the game behind the scenes. And considering what they most recently worked on together, Metroid Dread, it would be very naïve to think nothing the Switch game doesn't already contain a hint or two about what's to come in Metroid 6. And believe me... There are some breadcrumbs here... Breadcrumbs I'm dedicated to find!

How to Improve Ridley: Fixing Metroid's Greatest Villain

Ridley is an iconic part of the Metroid series, no other way around it. But at the same time, I feel like he has never been able to become as prominent as he maybe would've deserved. And there are some clear reasons for that, reasons I'm not only gonna explain, but also fix, as I'm gonna try to turn Ridley from a frequent boss into the mastermind villain he has really always been. How Metroid Uses Horror The Nintendo Way

Halloween has come early this year... Out of all of Nintendo's many franchises, Metroid just may tap into horror the most. But all the while it has to adhere to the restrictions that come with being a part of Nintendo's stall, meaning it can't go wild with gore or jumpscares. And so, the series has had to adept and find new ways to get on players' nerves. How they do that? Only one way to find ...

How Metroid Dread Changed Ending Screens Forever

Metroid Dread revived the series in more ways than one. Not only was it the first original 2D Metroid game in forever, it also toyed with conventions and brought the traditional formula into the modern era. One example of such a thing can be found at the complete end of the game: the ending screens. How iconic these are, I don't need to tell you, but what you may hear is how Metroid Dread has a...

Seems like someone worked for Capcom before working on Other M.
I thought the figure with the spear was Quiet Robe. Since it's the archives, I thought that showed events prior to the game.
All I want is Adam out of Samus' life and Samus to be completely unrelated to the Federation. The more she is a loner badass, the better it is imo
The reason ZDR was about to explode is because itorash had burned and the ship was gonna blow due to it being over heated
Im gonna come back and binge your channel later after I beat the metroid games i dont want spoilers for. For now though, im subbed at least lol
Samus must destroy all god.
I really hope mercury steam is working on a fusion remake instead of metroid 6. I think for main story entries they need some more time to bake in the oven, so i wouldnt want to see metroid 6 so soon. Mercury Steam's ability to blend organic and mechanical backgrounds in metroid dread would be PERFECT for fusion, and an SA-X using Emmi AI would be absolutely horrifying, plus they can't boof the music either because fusion already has an amazing soundtrack
The ships were used by a chozo to escaped, but a good chozo. Metroid 6 is about the federation hunting down samus after tricking her into an underground facility. Those are my theories
The best argument I've seen to explain this is as follows (forgive the clunky nomenclature, but when almost every ship is called a Hunter-class Gunship, it calls for some further method to distinguish between ships): Samus uses Gunship 1 (not really a gunship yet...) in Metroid/Metroid: Zero Mission. It gets shot down, and Samus returns in a Space Pirate Fighter. When the GF show up to assess the surface of Zebes and confirm the destruction of a Space Pirate Mothership, Samus pays to have them retrieve her ship. (This would be possible because this is in the immediate aftermath of both Tourian and the Mothership blowing up - the Space Pirates left on Zebea lack any effective leadership, and have their hands full with handling the existing crisis, so they're more likely to cower in the deepest tunnels they can find than to fight the GF, especially now that GF forces can easily land planetside.) In the seven years before Metroid Prime, Samus has Gunship1 rebuilt into her first Hunter-Class Gunship. Also, sometime between now and post-Hunters, she commissions the construction of a second, less armed but more maneuverable Hunter-Class Gunship (when you've been shot down before and all your stuff and everything around you has a habit of blowing up, you make sure you have backup options). As a result, the gunship we see in Metroid Prime is still Gunship 1, just heavily reworked. That same Gunship 1 shows up again in Metroid Prime: Hunters. A strong argument could be made that she commissioned the second gunship after seeing the ships in use by the other Hunters. During Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, we see Gunship 2 for the first time. Samus is using it while Gunship 1 is receiving further upgrades. This will further distinguish the two gunships, with Gunship 1 being armed to the teeth and Gunship 2 being stealthy, sleek, and maneuverable. We see Gunship 2 damaged, but its auto-repair functions get the gunship up and running by the time Samus is ready to leave. She likely takes Gunship 2 in for a checkup to ensure the ship is fully restored to top shape, but it probably wouldn't take much time or effort to fix any lingering problems. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption shows Samus using Gunship 1 again. Its heavier weapons help match the tone, fighting alongside the GF Navy and providing air support. Ghor does some minor to moderate damage, but this is repaired fairly quickly. The same iteration of Gunship 1 returns in Metroid Prime: Federation Force, after which it vanishes. This is the last we see of Gunship 1. It has been theorized that something happens to it (aka something will happen to it) in later Metroid Prime games, given how they correspond with Gunship 1 disappearing. Certainly, from Metroid 2: Return of Samus/Metroid: Samus Returns on through Super Metroid, Metroid: Other M, and the beginning of Metroid Fusion, we see Gunship 2 consistently, and Fusion makes it very clear what happens to it (death by drifting into an asteroid). Metroid Fusion shows Samus being given the purple ship with an onboard AI by the GF to help her on her mission, and Samus basically takes the ship as her own and not GF property. We'll call this Gunship 3. When we see this Gunship 3 in Metroid Dread, it's obvious that there has been some modification to the vessel. This drives home the fact that Samus does not have another vessel available besides Gunship 2 at the start of Metroid Fusion, and also implies that Samus is beginning to customize Gunship 3 in ways similar to how she customized Gunship 1 and Gunship 2 to her needs.
The GF is just as shady as the space pirates. Their “partnership” with Samus is probably over as she’s gonna b public enemy #1 as they’ll want to capture her
I know some have mentioned Quiet Robe being able to retain control after being mimic'd by the X-Parasite. But I would point out that like Metroids being inspired by Facehuggers from Alien, X-Parasites are inspired by the organism from The Thing. In those movies the Thing doesn't know it is a mimic and very much acts within the nature of the original host. At least until it naturally through instinct wishes to spread. Even though Quiet Robe's mimic helped Samus, it eventually would have sought her destruction and sought to spread itself to other organisms. Any infected Mawkin that escaped would likely do the same. Only keeping their intelligence and memories for as long as it takes to get to a populated planet.
Am I the only one who Loves the design of the PED suit
Prime 4 not looking better than prime remastered? I do have to disagree here, while it isn’t a night and day difference it is there. Also just because a new console is more powerful doesn’t mean developers will be able to take advantage of that at the beginning, ps3 launch games looked like they could have been released on the ps2, and ps4 launch games looked near identical to games released at the end of the ps3 life cycle.
I don't think we've seen the last of people attempting to create clones of Metroids and using Metroid dna as bioweapons. Just that, I think the main focus is on the E.M.M.I project now. We could still see Metroid clones and Metroid dna misuse come up in Metroid 6 and later. That just won't be the main focus anymore is all. It's possible that we might see people attempting to fuse EMMIs with Metroid dna, X dna, or somehow, even both. Metroid stuff in Metroid isn't done, Metroid dna just isn't only focus of dangerous threats anymore now that we're see more of the X and now the new EMMI project thing. Plus now know there are surviving Chozo out there too. I personally view this new saga as more of a drastic expansion of lore than the explicit end of an important part of the lore altogether. Basically just a whole new chapter of the story where we're being introduced to more threats besides Metroid kind. Don't forget that Samus is still Metroid now at point! And I definitely think the Metroid dna in her is gonna take over completely eventually given how far she's come in Dread compared to Fusion. So much more has been opened up for Samus' adventures and the stakes are so much higher for Samus now!
bro first 3 is my favorite 3. smh
Great work! You just got an old Prime fan excited for this new release! You’ve brought me back and after losing interest in the series for many years, thank you. I totally agree with all the points you made, you did a very good job on this video 👏 Can’t wait to get into the series, and hopefully some more Remasters for Switch!
At least he's on time lol 🤣🤣
If there is another game itll be before dread, they said dread was the last game chronologically in the franchise
They stated that Dread was the end of a saga and the beginning of a new one. They didn't actually state that Dread was the beginning of new saga, I just added that since it's pretty much implied by the game featuring a new type of enemy in the series in the E.M.M.I and there's the mysterious figure in the background of the image talked about in the video. Sakamoto never stated that there won't be anymore adventures after Dread or that Dread is the last game chronologically. He actually stated the opposite, stating that there is gonna be more adventures of Samus taking place after Dread, but it'll be a new saga. If Dread was the last, Samus being stuck in her Metroid suit form in the ship would've been the end. The whole reason the Quiet Robe X was there was to insure that Samus' Metroid Suit can be made dormant, reverting her back to her more human state, so that she escape and be able to still go on more adventures. If Dread was the last game ever, there'd be no point to that, because people would just be left to wonder "what happens next?" I do think there is gonna be an inevitable point in the series timeline where Samus does inevitably completely give in to her Metroid power, ending that timeline of Metroid. And at that point especially, it possible that we may start getting more interquels like Other M, but maybe in the form of more traditional style main series 2D Metroid games in taking place in between games. Perhaps maybe even another series of Metroid games in a different format like Prime.
@PJCVita92 holy yappetry
@@krispyair Holy Illiteracy,! I replied to a lazy 5 year old minded neanderthal! It's so fascinating that you can even type. But yet, you can not even actually read! Yeah! How about you go back to school kid!
I would say do what dead space remake did with its map, but Metroid has much more verticality. It’s called sequence breaking, and much of it in Metroid games (at least in 2d has been intentional).
Before I watch: I have a wild prediction about the plot of the next metroid game I came up with mid theory for a video I have coming out in December If I am right it will not only be a great way to bring back old villains without cheapening their deaths (like Ridley) but also really make a certain villain the iconic villain she was meant to be considering she has freaking telepathy! So be on the look out for my Decemeber video: "Who is Phantoon?"
Didn’t they say Dread was the end of a saga? As I understand if a new game comes out, it wouldn’t be a continuation but a completely new story.
As if the last time they tried to have something completely new and different for Metroid worked so well with Federation Force.🙄 The end of a saga doesn't mean the end of Samus' story altogether, just means that they're moving on to the next big chapter of her life for that series of Metroid games. Like what was stated in the video, they're not gonna replace a much beloved character we've been familiar with for decades for a brand new character we don't even know. Besides, the last time they tried to force us to play as different people, fans were not happy. This isn't Mario, Star Fox, or Zelda where playing as a different character works because there's more familiar major main characters to choose from. Metroid mostly just has Samus. Prime does have Sylux, but he's a villain at the moment. Though we could play as him in Hunters' multiplayer mode.
@@PJCVita92 when i said a new story, i never meant replace Samus. Also i don´t think they will cause she is too iconic. But with new story i meant something like The legend of Zelda, each game is their own story and a new Link. This could be the beginning of a new Samus, who knows or a story that has nothing to do with the previous one cause this will be a "new saga".
@@ageup7493 I figured that's what you meant. However, I still stand by what I stated. I do believe the lore and species we know is still gonna be a part of the new saga. Otherwise, it just wouldn't be Metroid, without anything to do Metroids or Metroid kind/dna at all. They have to have someone or something related to the Metroid species, otherwise it's not Metroid. So I don't think we're seeing a new Samus anytime soon since she's the last remaining major plot point of the Metroid name due to her having Metroid dna in her. Maybe eventually, we might see the Samus we know completely turn in a Metroid and a new Samus is born and grows up to stop the previous Samus. That could into a whole new series of games where we whole new species of Metroids created by Metroid Samus. I just feel like this new saga of 2D Metroid is like a origin story for Samus' villain arc as the new Metroid threat. We've just seen Samus lose control of her Metroid power for the first time in Dread. I don't think it's the last. So I definitely like the idea of a new Samus. Maybe where the Samus we know eventually turning evil and new Samus is brought forth to stop her. Just my take on the new Samus idea and how I think it should work.
Metroid 6: Samus needs to destroy the dam galactic federation
My wildcard prediction for Metroid 6: You know how Quiet Robe seemed to (maybe)somehow take control of his body back from the X-Parasite at the end of Dread? One of the infected Mawkin Soldiers who escaped the planet on the missing Hanubia ships is going to manage to do the same thing. Instead of the X controlling the host, the host will control the X. This means we'll get a real genuine Mawkin as a proper villain for the sequel instead of just being a footsoldier for the X.
Do you have X/Twitter account? I would like to show you something you might like
I'm hoping for that fusion remake that mercury steam initially wanted to make.
i admit i worry sakamoto might try to take notes from souls-likes and make everything hit harder and punish more while making a super tight doge and/or parry window with a halfassed cooldown or stamina meter. yes i HATE darksouls and how prevalent souls-likes are, its hard to find a metroidvania these days that isnt a souls-like which are super punishing to visually imp0ared gamers. same reason i hate the last two 3D zelda games. i felt like i was being slapped in the face constantly for daring to want to enjoy them while being disabled. all this said, an interesting idea could be introducing a protoge for samus to start teaching. that doesnt mean we have to have her talk like in the abomination that is other M. she could be the few words and teach by actions or sending text messages cause they are silent to them. it could lead to a spin off series that expands the universe
I don't see Samus as being the "Last Metroid". The X-Parasite to me took the vestiges of the Metroid DNA from her, returning her to full human - it was their main prey after all. That would also tie into "The end of the Metroid story" as there is no more Metroids, and no more DNA. That being said I don't believe that either, Metroid 4 showed a lot of hatched eggs...
i love every iteration of the dread suit varients, the added white around the middle and the sinewy exposed muscle like texture from the healing aftermath of fusion just look amazing, i just wish the metroid suit was useable in ng+ even if only visually
It's hard being a Nintendo fan.... They have so many beautiful series like Metroid, StarFox, Pikmin, F-Zero, etc. All of which are terribly neglected outside of Mario, Zelda, Kirby, and Pokémon!!!!
I like to think that at the end of Dread, a clone of Samus that Ravenbeak was teasing had survived and is carrying out his will. I always enjoy an evil Samus.
i always got the idea that space pirates are an alliance of multiple alien groups ones either solely focused on war and domination willingly or possibly other races who have been enslaved to do so. the pirate homeworld seen in prime 3 was likly the main ase of opperations but even scans in prime 1 mentioned turnin tallon 4 into another headquarters as it was ric in phazon, so they prtty much takeover planets and clam it in their name as they did with zebes. i think it possible the "homeworld" seen in 3 may even be the same where it could have been a random plaent they took over due to rich resourses as it seems odd they originated on a planet with acid rain when most seemingly need protection from it
I wouldn't mind another attempt at an Other M style 3D Metroid, as long as we get to use more than 5 buttons on the controller.
I really hope Exelion Star Corp becomes a major antagonist. Their mechs could actively give Samus some trouble and I'm all for fighting some out of control super robots made in the image of her past foes and new ones. The EMI were just the beggining and Exelion is the only weyland yutani reference Metroid has seen. Exelion also being the house of corruption within the Galactic Federation just connects with the likes of .....other m, AND Fusion! Exelions definitely has major potential in the future of the series. (Also whether it's plot device or used like dmcs devil trigger. I love Samus' new Metroid powers and those are also speculatively limitless on ideas.)
He's the worst thing about the franchise. He's barely even a character, and is completely irrelevant to any of the plots
It needs to have the x parasite. The missing ships at the end heavily imply they're still alive and it would justify dread bringing them back
6:59 That's a very arrogant statement! But judging how toxic every single Community and Fandom are becoming, I am not surprise at this point. And you people call yourself adults... -_-;
The X mimics of chozo definitely escaped zdr. Quiet Robe being able to reassert his consciousness through the X mimic implies that the near extinct chozo and the X could reach some level of symbiosis between eachother, which I find very exciting. On top of that, Adam knew about Samus's Metroid powers when Samus got back to the ship. Was he silently scanning Samus from afar while Raven Beak pretended to be Adam, or did Raven Beak hack Adam's program to communicate through him? Is Raven Beak's consciousness now implanted in Adam's program like a virus? I would like to see a plot about Samus trying to rid herself of the Metroid DNA, but she can't do that as long as X parasites continue to exist.
1:37 ok weird thing unrelated to the vid (good vid btw) is that in this frame Samus’ visor is definitely blue, and the next frame it’s definitely green
The ships being used to escape could work. But if the purpose of the X Parasites are to spread and take over, then why would they wait when the planet is about to explode when they could've already been conquering other planets? As for the mysterious Chozo with the staff on Hanubia, that's most likely Raven Beak. The silhouette doesn't look like him, but remember, there is an image of Samus draining Raven Beak's energy, and she doesn't have an arm cannon. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't touch on Samus' Metroid abilities. People thought that Metroid 5 was going to have Samus being a fugitive, because Metroid Fusion leaves us with what ifs. But in Metroid Dread, this isn't even addressed. Metroid Dread probably ended the way it did to show what Samus has become, and Metroid 6 probably won't go into further details.
I hate that you're probably right. The figure having a cannon pretty much solidifies it as raven beak. Though samus new powers can create a 2D version of hypermode. They'll absolutely use her new powers
@@novustalks7525 I'm not against an heir of Raven Beak or even a Raven Beak clone, or the original having not ever fought Samus being in Metroid 6. It probably won't happen, but we'll see. I think a Hyper Mode has potential to be in the game.
I see you are a logical fan of the series. Very rare these days.
@@arikoment3560 I try to be. But I make mistakes at times, too.
@@uffevonlauterbach Acknowledging that you make mistakes. Very rare indeed. It's not a joke btw. I respect people that are willing to be respectful and sincere.
I find that Metroid: Other M was highly underrated. Mixing 2D and 3D mechanics in one game was ambitious and would probably work better with today’s technology.
would've worked fine with that gens tech if they put more thought it, and some better english versions voice direction and translation among many other things. The game could have been great, it was horrible execution that killed it not a bad premise.
Other M has a well deserved fame. Mixing 2d and 3d mechanics could work though, i won't argue that.
Would love another 3d 2d mix. But done well with actual metroidvania gameplay and not whatever other m was. The story wasn't that bad in Japanese. I played it and whenever a cutscene came out I stopped and opened youtube to watch in Japanese and god that was a way better experience
Agree 100% Other M is one of my favorites!! Actually, the Metroid Queen i crafted is vased in the one present in Other M.
Other M's gameplay was alright. Samus' portrayal however...
Hopefully we'll get Metroid 6 in 2026, after Metrpid Prime 4 next year
I am pretty sure that Samus had her Metroid DNA removed by Quiet Robe’s X parasite, so we won’t see any Metroid powers in 6.
I don't think it was removed as much as it was neutralized.
If that was the case, then the significance of the baby Metroid means nothing. She took the baby Metroid, went to save it, only for it to sacrifice itself to save Samus, and then save her again as a vaccine to stop the infection of X Parasites in her. She is now a Metroid. Metroid means "Ultimate Warrior" in Chozo, and now Samus is truly an ultimate warrior. Plus, it still gives reason for the game to still be called Metroid, since the Metroids are extinct.
@@uffevonlauterbach If someone where to extract Samus's DNA in order to clone more Metroids, then there's a chance they could return in a future game...
@@javiervasquez625 Yeah. But with Sakamoto wanting to wrap up this story arc, I don't see it happening. I won't say it can't or won't happen, though.
I find it interesting that in the prologue of Dread the logo of the company that created the EMMIs is shown, but nothing is mentioned about them in the entire game. I hope that future games will show more of their work creating weapons, being able to create other EMMIs and dealing more in depth with Samus's relationship with the galactic federation.
Nah. Leave some things a mystery
The next Metroid game should be about a conflict between Samus and the Galactic Federation as the federation tries to capture Samus in order to extract her Metroid DNA and attempt to continue the Metroid Breeding Program from Fusion. One of the lead villains could be the mysterious "Colonel" from Other M who's become a major figurehead within the federation.
Pls no
@@jonathanwilson7949 ???
I believe Metroid 6 will come out in 2025
Assuming there will be a Metroid 6, Metroid had never been a system seller like Mario and Zelda.
Nintendo only has 5 system seller franchises (Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Pokémon and Smash) and yet they continue to release games from their other franchises (Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Xenoblade, Kirby...). If they only maintained system seller franchises they would barely have games in their consoles. Metroid, for example, has had a new game on all the company's consoles, except N64 and Wii U
I definitely think that the federation will be the antagonist going forward and they won't have x parasites going forward.
As much as I love metroid and pray for a continuation through the core series. Have you considered the upcoming Prime 4 Beyond in relation to an upgrade prediction or wish list?
