It's so funny that Retro tried to establish themselves as the American version of Rare...and then ended up making the new Donkey Kong games lol. They really did become the new version of Rare after all.
Same. I had a Super Nintendo as a kid but was not aware of Metroid until I saw Samus in Super Smash Brothers on N64. So Prime was my first time playing a Metroid game as well. I loved Prime on its own merits when it came out. But after having played Super Metroid as an adult, I now realize just how masterfully Retro Studios captured the essence of that game with Prime, while simultaneously shifting to a first person perspective. It really is unbelievable.
@@PrimepediaYT The reason Miyamoto chose first person is because he played Jet Force Gemini and hated the controls. According to director Mark Pacini, Miyamoto believed that "shooting in third person was not very intuitive".
I think without a doubt this channel can blow up, the only reason it hasn't already is that it's fully oriented around the Metroid franchise, which has a bit of a smaller draw. If he was to combine that with more mainstream franchises such as Zelda, Mario, and Resident Evil, he'd already have 1k subs. Nonetheless, as a Metroid fanboy, I am a loyal subscriber. These videos are A+.
I did not get to play Metroid Prime until 2005, and that was after I played Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. At that point in time, it was next to impossible to find Metroid Prime in stores, so I had to buy a used copy from online. When I got to play it, I almost felt like my mastery of Metroid Prime 2 dampened the wow factor it could have gotten from me, but since then, I still hold Metroid Prime as the reason why Metroid fans are as amazing as they are today. I cannot wait to get my hands on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. I will not miss it this time.

Great video! Very concise, yet detailed. You seem to have put 40 minutes of information in a dense ~11 minute video. As a relatively latecomer to the Metroid fandom (having played some Prime Hunters in the mid 2000's, but really only getting into Prime in 2020 or so), I love to hear about how the game was perceived all the way back during its original launch cycle.
I've been a 2d main series fan and fusion was my first game I've finished and following the series through gameboy advance. If I got the metroid prime back then when the gamecube gifted to me and I saw the savefile of metroid prime sadly seems like I didn't got the game with the gift back then could made my childhood awesome so HaloCE was only my fps best childhood back then. Not that I experienced the metroid prime through remastered with GYRO! it was the awesome 2d to 3d transition of the game of all time for me. Sad I wish they remaster the 2nd and 3rd game

Metroid Prime was my introduction to Metroidvania as a whole. The Prime Trilogy is still to this day among my favorite games of all time.
