I guess anarchs are basically Sabbat now? I haven’t played this game in 30 years. I feel like I’ve been in torpor. I wake up and… Ministry? I have almost a full set of Jyhad and lots of Ancients and Soveriegns, a bit of Sabbat. What 5th edition decks should I start with to get back into the game? I’m interested in the new cards from sets I never got to see like Kindred’s most wanted, Black hand, etc. I’m not competitive so I’m just looking for cool vampires and cards that tell a story. Are the Sabbat still around? Thanks!

34:45 I wish VTES worked more like MtG because it would make things easier. The introduction of the stack made MtG much easier to play than it was before.

This is really interesting. I recently got back into the game I am up in the Newcastle/Sydney area. Haven't played for 15 years. One of the big problems I find with doing this is getting the cards these days. I was just going to forget about the whole idea but I was very fortunate in that I sold a bunch of cards to a friend years ago and he was kind enough to sell some of them back to me minus the rares. Buying some of the ones I used to use a lot are prohibitively expensive (stuff like Awe, The Call and Bliss for example). Gone are the days when you could just go buy a booster box and I think it's a big impediment to getting new players or getting old ones return. I don't feel just having the starter boxes is enough especially with such a large catalogue of cards.

Getting my head round the v5 rpg changes that are changing things in the card game. For example sepentis disappearing.

Apologies for the weird looking start - apparently there was a firmware update for my camera that fixed the eye angle and I wasn't aware and also for the bloodshot eyes

On the idea of deck enhancer product, I'm still hoping they can squeeze something like that in next year - Especially if they can add more Crypt options. I know people like their stars, but when you see V5 Gangrel TWDs just running 12 unique Vampires, I personally think that's a good indicator of successful Crypt design overall for a clan.

Just responding as I watch. On the Ravnos Crypt cards not feeling thematic enough, I feel like that's almost a universal problem across a lot of the cards. I'd like to see them double down on the vibe of all the clans and really make them all feel more than a set of Disciplines. Give the cards personality through their text boxes.

So great to see Stu on again. His ability to extract flavour from the cards is second to none.

Well...thank you for the shoutout! :) Ravnos got noticeably better on release, Break the Bonds is a top 2 card in the whole set, so that salvaged the whole concept in the end. Salubri was obvious for sure, with the tool set they were bound to get. Tzimisce got pre-nerfed, mostly because the immensely dangerous discipline set they've got, but still gonna be really strong.

gangrel revel is the card that already has the ravnos symbol, from its printing in the new blood deck

Would be interesting to see your updated thoughts when the release happens, or when the reveals are done soon.

22:55 This is one of the several problems with deck construction games. The players are incentivized to construct decks that win. Not decks that provide the most interesting decision and interactions.

Also, I'm not the best at the lore, but I believe the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum is basically an Elysium for Anarchs. Violence is prohibited (ie Combat Ends). The recursion mechanic, though? No idea!

Two question, what was the Giovanni deck that Steven played? I spotted Thomas, Diego and Raphaela, where Thomas doesn't even have Dominate ^^; Other one would be, how high up did you put the camera? am trying to go for a better overhead setup when streaming local events over here (Germany, Europe), I did spot the stand you've used at the end :)

Thanks for listening to me regarding the background music. I did find it easier to hear. Not sure if this is just me, as I do have issues with background noise generally. Regarding Pack Alpha, it is not a card one should include many copies of, but it has its place. I think it may be better for Murder of Crows or Owl Companion or Dog Pack than for intercept retainers, as those cards can be an unpleasant surprise for the other combatant. The real advantage though is in action compression -- if I can get out that retainer without wasting an action to do it, that's basically an employ retainer action that cannot be blocked and does not tap you to take it. I would not keep two cards in hand for too long, unless I am reasonably sure a combat is upcoming, but if you are a decent block deck, then you are presumably giving your opponents reason to take actions, Army of Rats or what have you. And if you are a rush deck, you can also control getting that combat started via Deep Song, etc. You are right that it is less useful than Disguised/Concealed Weapon, but you likely are not designing a deck around Pack Alpha where you might with DW/CW. One or two copies is sufficient, depending on how many retainers one has in the deck. I also have a soft spot for this card because it and Muricia's Call came after I made a suggestion I made during Bloodlines playtesting that the Ahrimanes needed a good way to use retainers, and animal retainers needed a good way to get more play than they were at the time. I am not sure that either card succeeded as well as I would have hoped, mind you. Thanks for the video.

Great video. Thanks for putting this out. - Claws of the Dead was reprinted in the 5th ed. Gangel deck. It's nice to have both options. - Pack Alpha is a nice way for decks without stealth to recruit retainers, but it's also a sneaky way to use combat for extra actions. Recruit Raven Spy > Blocked > Pack Alpha > Recruit ANOTHER Raven Spy > Form of Mist > Recruit Raven Spy anyway. Personally, I love using it with Earth Meld to recruit on a block.

Pack Alpha isn't a great card, but it is servicable and answers a very specific problem: what if both of your neighbours play a hybrid where they block your tool-up actions but want to still pass their actions? Hol'up, it's not that far-fetched. Imagine having a Ministry bleeder on your right, and them hovering both a Carlton and Form of Bat (as they should). They will hate you tooling up with permacept. On your left you have a political prince deck (let's say G45 ANI Tremere), who hover both 2nd Tradition and a set of Parity Shits and Banishments they aim to push through with 2-3 Stealth. Both decks very meta, both very effective still. Pack Alpha solves the problem of not getting your tool-up through, even with your Form of Bats (and most likely Form of Mist). Furthermore, it's not as binary as Concealed Weapon (it's not a dead card in certain matchups and in lategame). Also, you don't have to "waste" actions on tool-up in situations where speed is key - you can keep on bleeding to speed up your game, and in the eventuality someone will block (or you'll block a minor action), you'll get your Raven Spy without the action. It's true though that it comes with a lot of downsides, including the tax on hand circulation etc. It's not excellent and does not fit in all decks. You have to build and play accordingly. It's a mediocre card at best, but it is not a bad card per se.

Thanks for doing these. If I can make a humble suggestion, the music is unnecessary and often makes it difficult to hear what you are saying, for me anyway. Not as much in this video as previous ones, but still noticeable.

Bituin is the perfect vamp to control an army of Grotesque gargoyles! Her animalism allows you to use Detect Authority, which is a nice deterrent to help defend the locations for the Grotesques. If only that were a viable deck...

I like Bituin as a sidekick for Lord Tremere because she has ani (and dom and THA of course) and brings 2 votes for the low investment of 6 capacity.
