Yamaha YXZ-rock crawling.
Переглядів 46 тис.8 років тому
With the long awaited release of a true sport machine from Yamaha, the YXZ is a thrill to drive in the desert without having to worry about blowing a belt. With a little practice we found that the YXZ can rock crawl medium obstacles, the clutch is more challenging than a CVT and we wished for a little lower first gear. Next up is the Rekluse test.

Here is a little video of our adventure at KOH 2014. We started 21st and worked our way up to 5th in the first rock canyon (aftershock). We made it to the top of Wrecking Ball at 1pm with a broken front axle, rather than yank it out I tried to bungee it in place, about 500 yards later it got caught in the brake line. No brakes means race over. If I would have yanked the broken axle out we could...

Sand Hollow WORCS race, Round 4
Переглядів 2,3 тис.11 років тому
My first attempt at running a WORCS race. It was awesome, had a great time. I only got to run the first lap hard due to a flat tire. The first lap was approx 32 mins, most intense 32 minutes I've ever had in a SxS. I was in 2nd place in the Prod 1000 class when I got the flat tire. Wish there were more courses like this one.

    That was the 1st video I have ever seen where the maverick was even close. Makes me wonder if this video was skewed some how or all the other ones before that I watched. Im in the market for a side by side, I dont have a rooting interest. My research to this point says get the RZR without a doubt though.

    hands down the cat has the best suspension and handling . you sit lower giving you a more stable feel I'm sad they come up about 10 hp short although 2016 has a better build and clutch set up. if you wa t to be fastest and money isn't the issue 2017 wildcat (supercharged) 150 plus hp . or if you have one just call up speedwerx supercharger kit for 6k

    • @WilliamStewart1

      jacob c If you want to be the fastest it's the Yamaha with a turbo, over 300hp now.

    If polaris didn't down size the engine to a 925cc I think they would have had more torque to get off the line better. Cause now you have to let that turbo spool up. Not to say that those Rotax engine's are torque monster's. I'm getting an 850 xmr and I rode a buddy's 800r and that alone had lots of torque.

    • @ezelder
      @ezelder 8 років тому

      +Kyle Fitzgerald I agree. I would be embarrassed to call a 925 a 1000. That's like calling my 70" tv an 80" lol

    Have drove all three and bought from a dealer who sells all 3 and the Polaris who has been doing these the longest is the best machine PERIOD. I ended up getting a 2015 new XP1000 with front and rear bumpers, aluminum roof, and rock guards for $19,000 out the door! The Wildcat is not bad for the price but you are paying less and getting less....nothing wrong with that. I did consider the CanAm for about the same price but after talking to the maintenance peeps at the dealership the CanAm is much harder to work on and even changing the oil and filter is a pain in the butt! All three nice machines, but the RZR is the best machine and 2 runs on the video up the dunes from different starting positions CLEARLY shows that!

    For a machine that lives for 7k+ rpms, I have to say that I'm pretty impressed by this video.... While not the machine I'd choose for crawling, it's not entirely impossible.... +1 This machine spikes a whole new level for SxS's..... And I LOVE IT!!! But at it's price point, and regarding available 1:1 parts/components.... I have to question, Can I build something better... and/or for cheaper?

    Long - term off road enthusiast: over the years, I've owned and operated 2 Jeeps, 2 dirt bikes, 2 trials bikes (observed trials competitor) , one atv and one side by side. I ran most of these rigs before the interweb was alive.. The technology today is nothing short of amazing, the power, suspension, drivetrains, configurations available, etc.... all you need is $$ [c; The keyboard commandos are alive and well, right here - going on, and on, and on, about "Which one is fastest" "who's the better driver" and so- on. Your'e all sadly missing the point of off-roading (well, most of you)...... I, for one, don't give a rat's ass which one is fastest. The point is, get something you can afford, get out and enjoy being off road. Stop the pissing and whining about what's better or faster. No matter if you have the fastest machine right now, in 6 months you won't.... so why be so obsessed ?

    Really should tell the guy driving the Maverick Turbo that the accelerator is on the right side and the brake is on the left. What a staged bias test.

  • @tacticalhomestead
    @tacticalhomestead 8 років тому

    no disrespect . but who ever drove the YXZ needs to learn how to "power" shift . all good machines however you cant expect to win if your letting off the gas 4 times during a 1/8th mile drag race. that being said ive owned and raced Yamaha's my whole life and to me they are just a higher standard of quality and engineering. Horsepower is NOT everything in a machine its about balance . other wise it would just be a lawn mower with a LS2 in it . just my $.02

    • @kenpeterson2815
      @kenpeterson2815 8 років тому

      +michael harris I was one of the drivers in that race. We were dropping the clutch on the Yamaha at 9-10k off the line in 4wd and NEVER lifting thru EVERY race, (speed shifting).... On the floor, barely touching the clutch for shifts and shifting near redline each time. I assure you, that Yamaha cannot be driven any faster under that scenario, we tried.

    its funny maybe you should give the yami a chance.its there first one .like the raptor 660 they started out soft but now its the most bulletproof quad on the market. next year yamaha will fix any issues and add a turbo ...if yamaha put everything into it at first there would be nothing to upgrade

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 8 років тому

      I do agree with you on giving yammi a chance to redeem themselves, unfortunately, yamaha will always suffer from longevity issues...wether it's the wiring issues after 3-4 years, or the catastrophic mechanical failures after 5. Yamaha does not last.

    • @corvettecraver
      @corvettecraver 8 років тому

      +scottcamaross I own a raptor 700 and the thing is the fastest thing out their but the thing isn't reliable. The transmission sometimes acts up and the external oil tank filed itself up to the brim 3 times and stayed there! The Yamaha mechanics have no idea what's up. The Polaris on the other hand has 2500 miles on it and has only needed a tuning! Gotta love Polaris...
