Howmet TX, the only 'turbine car' to win an official race
In the 1960s, all sorts of innovations were being implemented in motorsport, turning the racetracks into a true open-air laboratory. One of the ideas that emerged involved replacing traditional piston engines with gas turbines, similar to those used in airplanes. The idea seemed crazy at first, but it was gaining more and more attention from prominent figures at the time. One of the interested parties was Howmet, a company primarily focused on the aerospace industry. With the encouragement of Ray Heppenstall, the company built the Howmet TX, a car that initially faced challenges but eventually became the only winner of its kind in world motorsport.

Cosworth DFV, the engine that dominated Formula One
Переглядів 1,8 тис.5 місяців тому
After Climax exited F1, the Lotus team had a problem on their hands: they needed a powerful and efficient engine to compete mainly against Brabham and its Repco engines. Following an agreement with the (new) company Cosworth, a series of meetings and agreements set the production of the DFV in motion, a naturally aspirated V8 engine that quickly dominated the category like never before. Startin...
Three titles in ten years: Jackie Stewart, the flying scot
Переглядів 9025 місяців тому
Few drivers have done more for F1 than Jackie Stewart. Nicknamed "The Flying Scot," he won the world championship three times, raced in the Indy 500, Can-Am, and F2, and was also a TV commentator and team owner. He received numerous honors, including being knighted by Great Britain. Beyond his achievements on the track, his greatest contribution was his fight for better conditions in the sport,...
Win or Wall: The Fittipaldi vs. Unser Jr. duel at the '89 Indy 500
Переглядів 1,2 тис.5 місяців тому
The first Brazilian victory at the Indianapolis 500 was hard-fought: despite being dominant, Emerson Fittipaldi had to contend with yellow flags, entire packs of backmarkers, and pit stop errors. Against the Brazilian, drivers like Al Unser Jr., Rick Mears, and Michael Andretti kept up the pressure, with Little Al creating one of the most iconic moments of the historic race. The six-wheeler cars of F1: Tyrrell P34, March 2-4-0 and Williams FW08B
Переглядів 5 тис.6 місяців тому
In a time when practically all teams used the same engines, daring design was essential. Even with all the innovation emerging, nothing prepared F1 fans for the P34. The legendary car designed by Derek Gardner for Tyrrell wasn't a big winner, but it had its glories in the hands of Patrick Depailler, Jody Scheckter, and Ronnie Peterson. The four small wheels forming the front axle had a single m...
Ferrari 512 S/M: the italian answer against Porsche
Переглядів 17 тис.6 місяців тому
In the early 1970s, motorsport was making great strides in terms of speed. Aerodynamics began to receive special attention from manufacturers, both in Formula 1 and in the World Sportscar Championship. At that time, the cars competing in endurance races had performance levels comparable to those of single-seater category cars, and Ferrari paid a lot of attention to the competition. Focusing on ...
From two engines to six wheels: the oddities of the Indy 500
Переглядів 177 тис.7 місяців тому
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has always been a fertile ground for new ideas. Over decades of competition, many innovations have emerged at the Brickyard along with numerous oddities, often in attempts to gain some advantage without any theoretical basis. Employing a blend of technique and practical exploration, constructors tried a bit of everything in their designs, from cars with two engin...
Top 5: When the last place wins the race (F1)
Переглядів 1,9 тис.7 місяців тому
Winning an F1 race isn't easy. Winning after dropping to last is even tougher. In fact, it's such a difficult feat that only 5 drivers have managed to accomplish it (and one of them did it twice!). Of all these instances, one wasn't considered: Fernando Alonso's victory at the 2008 Singapore GP, influenced by the manipulation carried out by Flavio Briatore, the infamous "Singaporegate." Other t...
The race nobody wanted to win: the 1982 Monaco GP
Переглядів 5 тис.8 місяців тому
Formula One has experienced many unusual situations throughout its history. One of these occurred at the traditional Monaco Grand Prix in its 1982 edition: in the last three laps, one driver after another retired, always after taking the lead. In an increasingly shorter grid, the one who managed to stay on the track emerged victorious. It was the most chaotic final laps of all time, a GP which ...
The end of an era: the fall of Brabham F1 team
Переглядів 1,1 тис.8 місяців тому
Born in a romantic period of Formula 1, the Brabham team collected victories during the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The team created by three-time champion Jack Brabham remained alive on the grid until the mid-80s, when a series of issues forced the team to withdraw. After a year out, the iconic name returned to compete in the category, but much had already changed, and Brabham was no longer the victori...
Know the track: Road America
Переглядів 7268 місяців тому
A classic in Indycar, Road America brings together the best a road circuit can offer: with long straights, open, closed, blind turns, ample room for overtaking, among others, the track located in Elkhart Lake has been winning fans since its creation in the 1950s. With very few alterations since its inception, the layout has remained one of the best, if not the best, road circuits in the United ...
El Matador: The legend of Carlos Sainz
Переглядів 2,4 тис.9 місяців тому
Few motorsport drivers can be placed on the same level as Carlos Sainz. Even without the same numbers as drivers like Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier, Carlos "El Matador" Sainz is considered by many to be the greatest driver in WRC history, and for good reason. With two World Championships and four Dakar Rally victories, the Spaniard has cemented his name in the motorsport hall of fame and b...
The beginning of the Senna vs. Prost war: the 1989 San Marino Grand Prix
Переглядів 3939 місяців тому
Up until the 1989 San Marino Grand Prix, the rivalry between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost was relatively calm, although there were occasional intense moments in their battle for victory. The McLaren team was the main adversary for the rest of the grid, and in the previous year they had dominated the competition. In '89, everything seemed to point towards a repeat of their '88 dominance, with bo...
TOP 8: The biggest "Big One" crashes in F1
Переглядів 1,6 тис.9 місяців тому
Big One: the term is commonly used by NASCAR to refer to those accidents involving multiple cars on the grid. In the case of americans the proximity and quantity of cars favor big accidents, which in some cases involve more than half of the participants. In Formula 1, this type of accident is rare for the reasons mentioned, but still occurs. Music: "To live and die in LA" by Karl Casey @WhiteBa...
Extreme ground effect in F1: Brabham BT46B and Lotus 88
Переглядів 1,7 тис.9 місяців тому
The Venturi effect (or Venturi tube) was the primary element used in the racing cars of Formula 1 from the late '70s to the early '80s. The technology mimics the effect of an airplane wing but in reverse: to keep the car on the ground, it reduces the air pressure underneath, allowing the higher pressure above (which is greater) to push it down to the ground. Two notable examples of its operatio...

Excellent video, I'm glad that people from other countries are interested in the beloved Turismo de Carretera.
You really need to learn the names of the drivers and teams before putting out videos and pretending you know what your talking about

Felicitaciones excelente video!
Awesome content! I'm a little sad by the fact Indycar nowadays is left to running a spec chassis. Gone are the days of innovations like this. Still however makes for some _amazing_ races; this year's Indy 500 had one of the best finishes I've ever seen in racing, period.
Innovations are almost dead in motorsports. Too regulated now. Cookie cutter cars are boring.
As Argentinean im very proud of my motorsport championship.. Its the GOAT
OMG. YOU & YOUR SILLY AI VOICE ABSOLUTELY FORGOT TO MENTION ALL THE EARLY GREATS. YIDEEP SILVIRES, WORLD FAMOUS FRENCH UNDERWATER EXPLORER TURNED RACE CAR & ENGINE DEVELOPER, & SNICKLEDORF FORMUNDABLIXX, FAMOUS NORWEIAN FOUNDRY & METAL CASTING GENIOUS, PLUS GORTEN VAAN DEER SCHMOOKS, ABSOLUTELY THE NUMBER ONE IN DUTCH RACING LEGENDS OF ALL TIME !!! HOW DARE YOU & YOUR STUPID AI VOICED JARGAN FORGET THESE GREATS !!!!
Him Hall was doing skirts and fans in Can-Am 7 years earlier. Chapman went and visited with him at a Can-Am race. Hall pioneered wings, movable aerodynamic devices, side-mounted radiators, semi-automatic transmissions, and composite monocoque chassis structures, all of them innovations later adopted by and still present in every Formula 1 car.
They failed miserably against those 917's. I was a kid then. You just had to guess what was the Porsche team who was going to win.
Mitico!!!!! Ha lottato spesso da solo contro una squadra invincibile come la ns lancia.
Can you make video of Ken miles.
Exactly, him as well
1st class human.
Lots of incorrect information in this video
This ai voice sucks? Learn to say their names the right way
Finely a video of TC in inglesh!
Excelente video!
El querido TC.
Nice video mate! Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷💪🏁
How about a series on the turbine driven indy cars - long ago I worked at Boeing with the fellow that was the liaison engineer for the John Zink try. This fellow had put Boeing turbine into his own roadster (think it was an old ford model T and burned peanut oil in it - smelled great.
You mean for the 73rd INDIANAPOLIS 500!
[In a tone with sounding impressed] Well! This video was impressive for the multiple video clips that adhered to the presentation topic. Why is that an issue? There are loads of UA-cam videos out there that displays images in the videos that have nothing to do with the presentation topic; which subtracts from the video's credibility. One case in point: The sports car endurance racing battles between the Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512 in the early 1970s, where the UA-cam presenter, speaking about the Ferrari 512, was showing the image of a Lola T70Mk3 Coupe . . . a big goof! So, considering the newness of this YT channel, the producer did well with displaying images in keeping with the presentation topic.
Wow, the pronunciations of the drivers 😂
It's an Ai/Bot
Typically shite American racing car designs.
You lost me with the AI voice.
I fucking HATE AI narration. Can’t watch this shit. 💩
i would love to see those old cars being driven again, possibly replicas if the original isn't available for use
I've been to the Monterey Historics several times and never had the honor of seeing the Tyrrell in person.
Indy and NASCAR are both boring...

Solid synopsis. I do believe that Mario was a naturalized US Citizen by ‘69? Previous to Emmo’s win that would go back to Graham Hill in ‘66 for last foreign born ‘500’ winner.
The craziest Turismo Carretera race ever was the 1948 South American GP that started in Buenos Aires and finished in Caracas (yes, 9,576 km; 5,950 miles of racing divided in 14 stages!).
And theres a lot of stories like the almost fatal crash of fangio that killed his copilot and friend. And those in betweben stages they explore the places they stop
The last ever race held on roads was back in 1997. Instead, the last multiple-days stage race was held in 1986.
One common thread with a lot of these cars is a complete disregard for the driver's life. Imagine hitting the wall in that flimsy sidecar monstrosity.
You're not supposed to hit the wall! You're supposed to turn left then keep it straight!!!😂😂
Sir Jackie pawed the way of security in F1 as we know it today. Such a amazing character!
