I’ve Just Seen A Face - Wings - 1976 (Original Stereo)
Переглядів 3912 годин тому
Live Version. Never released as a single in Australia, this number was included on the U.K. band’s highly successful vinyl release, ‘Wings Over America’ where it was credited as a ‘McCartney/Lennon’ composition (as opposed to the original 1965 ‘Lennon/McCartney’ attribution). The triple LP disc was deemed to have peaked at #2 position on the national albums chart over the Australian summer of 1...
Dreamin’ - Cliff Richard - 1980 (Original Stereo)
Переглядів 77День тому
Very successful number in Australia and many parts of the world for the then 40 year old U.K. based artist who, for this track (and on some of his other recordings at the time), elected to sing in a higher register. This original stereo mix (which includes some faint studio chatter around the 29 second mark) debuted on the national chart on 29 September 1980 (at #71), peaking at the #4 spot som...
I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ - Scissor Sisters - 2006 (Original Stereo)
Переглядів 38День тому
Album Version. Sounding more like a standard disco release from the 1970’s, this was a wildly popular dance hit in Australia, and many other countries. It easily made the national #1 chart position and was confirmed by the Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) as the 5th biggest selling CD single of the year. Australia release: Late 2006
Remember - Des O’Connor - 1973 (Stereo)
Переглядів 7114 днів тому
Nostalgia themed single that achieved pop chart success in Australia. The U.K based singer/entertainer’s 45 disc failed to chart in Brisbane and Sydney but did pick up a significant level of radio airtime in other regional markets and eventually reached the #20 spot on the Australian ‘top 40’ singles chart, published by the Go-Set pop newspaper on 26 January 1974. The subscription only, ‘Kent M...
Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress) - Helen Reddy - 1973 (Stereo)
Переглядів 5714 днів тому
In early 1974, this became yet another trans pacific hit for the then 32 year old Australian born singer who became a naturalised U.S. citizen in that year. While some pop music commentators have opined that many of Helen’s recordings have failed to stand the test of time (and this easy listening number, with a tediously repeated ‘leave me alone’ lyric line, is certainly one of them), it is har...
LA LA - The Flying Circus - 1969 (Original Stereo)
Переглядів 7414 днів тому
Novelty ‘bubble gum pop’ number, that includes a probably unnecessary ‘chipmunk vocal effect’, is the Australian version of the original recording by the U.S. based studio band, ‘The Saturday Morning Cartoon Show’. On 28 June 1969, the Sydney based outfit’s single (1970 repress label pictured) entered the national ‘top 40’ chart then compiled by the Go-Set pop newspaper and was eventually liste...
Seasons In The Sun - Terry Jacks - 1974 (Original Stereo)
Переглядів 8721 день тому
Pop song with some dark themed, undoubtably gloomy lyrics (and most definitely saved by the then 29 year old Canadian born singer/songwriter’s arrangement and vocal delivery) still turned out to be a major hit throughout Australia. The true ‘one hit wonder’ made the #1 spot on the Go-Set pop newspaper’s national top 40 listing on 11th May 1974 (a position it held for six consecutive weeks) and ...
Can’t Stop Myself From Loving You - William Shakespeare - 1974 (Original Stereo)
Переглядів 77Місяць тому
Australian produced recording that features a belter of a vocal performance by the Sydney based ‘Shakespeare’ (aka: John Cave (1948-2010)). The song was a huge national hit and peaked at the #2 spot, just behind ‘The Night Chicago Died’ by the four member U.K. pop outfit, ‘Paper Lace’. It was the seventh biggest selling single of the year. Australia release: Late 1974. Highest local chart posit...
Lip Service - Elvis Costello - 1978 (Original Stereo)

Unvarnished recording by the U.K. born singer/songwriter. Never released as a single in Australia, the pacey track was included on Side 2 of his second studio LP album, ‘This Year’s Model’ (pictured).
Janie May - The Ferrets - 1977 (Stereo)
Переглядів 75Місяць тому
Album Version. Follow up to the relatively short lived Australian pop band’s big selling debut release, ’Don’t Fall In Love’. This is the (4.23) full length track from the vinyl LP, ‘Dreams Of A Love’, with the chorus lyric (‘Janie May, Janie May, I’m going, Janie May, one more day and I’m gone‘) constantly repeated for almost two minutes to the end fade out. Mercifully, for some listeners, the...
Mary In The Morning - Al Martino - 1967 (Original Stereo)
Переглядів 76Місяць тому
Album Version. Pop hit in Canada and the U.S. that, in Australia, failed to enter the Go-Set pop newspaper’s ‘top 40’ chart (in 1967, the only music survey compiled and published on a national basis). Some years later, following an analysis of record retail sales, the ‘Kent Music Report’ confirmed that, during a run of 12 weeks, Al’s recording had peaked at the #56 position. This is the album v...

This song is timeless. With so much development, destruction of familiar places from storms. 60 years ago, still the same. Wonder why she quit singing.

Eye Level is MAGNIFICENT!!!! Everything great about Europe is in it. It’s so happy apart from that nagging moment of doubt at the end. Possibly a prediction of Brexit. Or a tacit acknowledgment of our complicity in the holocaust. A great track

Hi @robertsauvage9745 This one is from my collection. But, I’m reasonably sure the same recording can be found on the compilation, ‘Living In The 70’s’, a 2CD 1995 release on the BMG label that contains a good spread of pop songs that were successful in Australia over that decade. Hope this helps.

LYRICS: Busted flat in Baton Rouge, headin' for the trains, Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans. Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained, Took us all the way to New Orleans. I took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana And was blowin' sad while Bobby sang the blues, With them windshield wipers slappin' time and Bobby clappin' hands we finally sang up every song That driver knew. Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose, Nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free, Ah, but feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues, And feelin’ good was good enough for me, Good enough for me and Bobby McGee. From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul, Standin' right beside me, Lord, through everythin' I’d done, Every night she kept me from the cold. Then somewhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away, Lookin' for the home I hope she'll find, And I’ll trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday, Holdin' Bobby's body next to mine. Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose, And nothin' left is all she left for me, Ah, but feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues, And buddy, that was good enough for me. Good enough for me and Bobby McGee. La da dada di di dada La da dada di La da dada me and Bobby McGee La da dada di di dada
