Dino's Tinker Shed
Canada
Приєднався 7 тра 2021
There is a saying that goes something like, "the only thing worse than not knowing something is knowing a little bit". This can lead to disaster or in a lot of cases, it can start you on a path of learning and experience. I've spent my life learning from others and taking an interest in just about anything you can do with your hands.
On this channel we will spend time "tinkering" in and around the tool shed on things that interest me, my friends and family. Along the way Ill do my best to pass on any knowledge I have on the subjects of the day and hopefully become a resource for you the people in your life.
I look forward to spending some time together in; the tinker shed.

DTS S5 Ep 1 I bought a new tool for the shop
In this episode, I will show you the new tool that I bought for the Timler Shed, a Creality Ender 3 v3 se, 3d printer.
It has been a while since I worked on my DR650 printed dash, and I apologize. I finally bought a used printer so I could finally get to work on advancing the design for everyone.
I am still learning and am hitting some roadblocks along the way, I am far from complete but am working my way through it.

Hey Dino - I bought a DR650 a few months ago due in large part to the quality of your videos. I am doing some upgrades and knew I could turn here to get some ideas and a good knowledge base. I sincerely appreciate you doing these videos. I hope I get to thank you in person some day!
@carlduke6960 glad you enjoy the content and congratulations on the new DR ! Thanks again for the comment, Dino
I bought a brand new single burner for the great freeze of southeast Texas 2025 and can't keep it lit right out the box. Says assembled in the USA, but if I was a betting man I would say it now has cheap Chinese parts.
I really like your videos. I owned a 99 DR and I felt so much more comfortable on it when off the pavement. I was used to riding KLRs and being a shorty I felt like I was riding on a step ladder on the KLR. I did go back to a klr for a two month trip to the Yukon because I felt like it would be more comfy for those long days in the saddle. I just bought a '24 Dr 650 with 5km on it. Brand new. It's winter, it's cold. Perfect time to watch your videos and learn what it is I have. Of course, you should move to the southeastern corner of BC so you can be my personal expert. Keep these videos coming. They're great and inspiring.
@flowchartboy hey, I'm glad you enjoy the content. At some point I want to ride out to Vancouver Island to visit my sister but that will not be for a while
Man.. if people think you have to take the entire bike apart to work on a DR they should try working on a sport bike.. That DR needs better handguards to protect the levers. If you put it down and brake your clutch it's pretty difficult to even start the bike, let alone ride it back home or get it out of the woods
Just a quick design consideration, as im sure you are aware 3d prints are super weak along the layer lines. One way you can alleviate that is by having a long (doesnt need to be super strong) bolt perpendicular to the layers, essentially sandwiching all the kayers together. This may not be feasible for the whole print, but if you have a small tab or something that keeps breaking along the layer lines , just put a bolt through it!
Minerva keeps sounding like a torch and I have no idea how to fix it. Can ypu help me?
Awesome Video !!! Keep that machine fired up !
@@Willi456 thanks Willi I will so
are you my brother in Jesus? you seem to have a disposition fuelled by the Holy Spirit
I did my valves and they are much nosier than before, so I did them again and rechecked my process, including TDC, and they are still noisy. I'm thinking I might need the offset feeler gauges as i think my straight ones might be putting a slight angle on the measurement, especially the exhaust side.
Creality Ender 3 is garbage, made me not want to print ever. Went to Bambu and now i love it.
I wouldn't call them garbage, for the time they originally came out they were great. Bambu just came in and made a massive splash by selling printers that "just work." Compared to a lot of printers at the time the ender basically was a Bambu printer, and I'm sure in another 5-10 years someone else will come out with something and we'll thing the bambu printers are garbage. But ya, until Bambu came out you were basically buying yourself into the hobby if fixing 3d printers, and now you can just use them as a tool that just works
Good informative video. Thank you.
sharpen the old ones next time and just lower them down since they are adjustable save big money!
Another great vid, my friend! Congrats on your 5th season. Going strong!

Looks like a lot of work Dino! I understand about keeping up at work and keeping an income. I always look forward to your videos though. Have a great day Dino.
Great job! My dad and I have both recently started in 3d printing and modeling. With a full career in production casting, the transition to rapid prototyping has been so great. Keep at it, these steps used to take weeks or months and many thousands of dollars of drafting and modeling. If you’re ever on section 4 of the Washington state BDR, let me know, we would love to have you at the house for a warm meal and a cold beverage.
Awesome Dino, one of the guys on the New Zealand dr650 site 3d printed the Dr speedo drive , perfect cheap alternative ! Happy new year, looking forward to next episode 🎉
Like others, I am very interested to see the final product Dino. Always look forward to your content.
@@anthonya7066 thank you for the comment.
Thankyou for the interesting video.. I like where you are going ith the 3D printing ( I am no expert in 3D printing) but the project on the dash redesign will be great to watch. ( I used to go to Toronto for work once a year. It was always in early March. Sure can get cold!!. I ventured to Niagera Falls and it was colder than Toronto). Great spectacle when some parts are frozen).
Nice work Dino!!
Looking great......looking forward to purchase the files or completed dash. I am currently working on a M5 dash model with add on and changes to modify it a bit...have the files converted to .dwg to have a laser cutter to cut them and will have the files converted to .stl to print them...but still like the look of yours. Keep up the great work. Garth

Heeey Dino!! Great video! Very curious of what you will do with the 3d printer in the future. Thank you so much for mentioning us❤️❤️, means a lot! Stay warm and cheers from the Netherlands🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♀️🐿️
@Skidmate all the best you two. Dino
Instead of ABS try it's bigger brother ASA, I believe it's basically identical as far as strength goes but it is also UV stable. I also feel like it is a little bit easier to print with than ABS and seems to shrink a little bit less but I have never compared them side by side. Also, speaking of shrinkage once you get everything fitting right with PLA which has very little shrinkage, you'll notice all the sudden that ABS / ASA prints will not fit the same. Try to avoid adjusting it in the model itself and make the adjustments within your slicer. Can't wait to see what you come up with, if you're looking for any more resources if you haven't already found him makers Muse has some really good videos for 3D printing
hey dino, have a great 2025. take care,
@henryhamon8050 thank you, you Ad well Dino
What CAD software are you using?
@@ParallelCamper just tinkercad, so far it's doing what I need. Any thoughts on programs? Dino
@@DinosTinkerShed I haven't used any CAD programs since I retired 4 and a half years ago and was only a rudimentary user. I don't know what is the best at this point. AUTOCAD was the easiest to use at that time but I have the most experience with CATIA an UNIGRAPHICS which are high end engineering tools. If tinkercad is working for you that is all that matters.
@@DinosTinkerShedI use fusion 360, but only because they used to have a proper "makers" edition that you could still run all the sims and fancy stuff. Now while it still exists, it's all in the cloud and you have juggle this stupid "you can only have 10 projects editable at a time" limitation. I believe it was makers muse who has a pretty good, fairly recent video on the current options.
Another excellent video. I greatly enjoy your DR650 content. Im an old retired guy here in Myrtle beach , SC that bought the new black 24 DR in the spring. I call him my "hatefull heathon". I love this bike and yesterday I installed the 22" Madstad windshield. Ive also installed the Seat Concepts, lowering pegs and Tusk shifter. I also drilled out the air/fuel brass plug and installed the adjustable screw. The factory setting was only a quarter turn out and it ran horribly. Its now aprox 2 turns out and starts and runs beautiful, (no other carb adjustments). 3600 miles on him now. Always looking forward to your next one. Oh yeah, I admire your weight loss.
@keglover-x4i thanks for the feedback and I'm glad your enjoying your DR, SC must be a great place to ride. Dino
Hi! 🦕. I love your channel
@juanurena8223 thank you, glad you enjoy it Dino
Huh...I was just looking at printers on AliExpress lol...-26 here in Bancroft a few days ago...got 2 inches snow today. Not enough for the trails to open, however.
Just a little bit of advice for those cheap printers, they work fine but only if you also want to add working on 3D printers to your hobbies. If all you're trying to do is add a 3D printer to your tool box it's worth spending a bit more. As someone who's had both you can get one of those cheap printers too "just work" eventually with a lot of tweaking but if you don't want to spend the time to do that it's worth spending the extra money.
@@SWATT101 ya slow to snow for sure

Thanks for your very elementary explanation of how to hook up your relay to power you higher load outlets. But I was wondering what do you plan to use these outlets for ? Another good video that I always learn something from.
Glad you enjoyed the content, I use one outlet for my GPS and the other to power things like an air compressor. Thank you again Dino
Love your videos Dino. You have an excellent attitude and the repair is absolutely the best and would be as good as new if not stronger I reakon. We all make mistakes. I am 46 and make them still as adult. This video rings true to me as I was 14 years old I had a 1984 Yamaha YZ80L mx bike which was my pride and joy. I used to do aircleaner every ride and run the best full syn premix oil at 25:1 as it was back in the day. Changed the gear box oil regularly, one day I had a lapse of judgment and bloody cross threaded the dam thing(gear box oil drain while reinstalling). I still remember that sinking feeling as I felt it was threading tight all the way in. Pulled it back it and it was toast. Went with helicoil and flushed the shit out if with gear box oil to get any crap out. Worked perfect and never had a problem with it. You are very methodical and I am too. Bike shops make mistakes worst, you just don't hear about it as a customer 😂
Thank you for the comment and personal experience, I owned a 1983 RM80 and loved it. I was like you for sure tinkering on it and starting my journey down the road of curiosity. I like your last comment, and I agree 100%. Thank you again Dino

Great video, very informative and inspiring to go out and change my gearing. One note: be sure to shake up the tube of thread locker before use, the solids in the fluid can separate from the carrier.
Thanks for the great tip, I will pass it on next video I use it. Dino
I bypassed the tip oover switches with toggle switches as you did. The heater kights but still both burners will shut off when I release the start button. Does this mean the thermocouples are bad?
Although I am not an expert, it sounds like it is the thermocouple. ☹ Thank you for the question Dino

I just found out about these things, I was so confused because it looks so much like an electric resistive heater... What material is the mesh made of that it can just GLOW like that from propane flame?
I believe it is just steel mesh, it holds and distributes the propane evenly withing the mesh, similar to a Coleman, white gas lantern that uses a cloth "mantle". Hope this helps Dino
@@DinosTinkerShed fascinating.. that suggests that specific part of the heater is at least _900 degrees_
