Hi Dino, These videos are honestly gold for people like me. I live in the UK where we have 124 registered DR650 SEs left in the country, of which only 40 are legally able to ride on the road at the moment and so there are very few people that know these bikes and how to work on them. I do as much work on the DR as I can myself and have some basic maintenance knowledge but electrical is definitely not my area of expertise. Do you happen to have a patreon or a 'buy me a coffee' type link? I've learned so much from your videos and would love to somehow return the favour. Thank you from a very grateful dutchman in the UK! 🙂
Dino, thanks for the spark plug cap tip. I will check mine the next time the tank is off. Good work. Thanks for the hours of research and homework you have endured to produce the video. You are a legend.
Thank you for the comment, I have to say I look forward to some lighter subjects for a bit, but I have learned a lot over the series, and that was a goal of mine. I'm glad others are finding it useful as well. Dino
@@DinosTinkerShed Thrilled for you Dino. Making it into a FortNine video on DR's - well It's sort of like getting an Oscar in my opinion. well done. You deserve it!
great series! I hope more people find out about your channel because you are doing an awesome service for the DR650 community. Your style and ability to inform/teach what you have learned is a pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much, it's a two way street though, everyone who comments and helps with things I miss in the videos is what I really love. It's a great community and I glad to a small part of it. Thanks again Dino
Hi Dino. John the NZ Brit biker here again. Just wanted to add my appreciation to the work you do on these videos. You missed a career as a teacher. I have been around bikes for 50 years and have a fair bit of knowledge about them. But I always find at least one or two useful bits of info in your videos. These electrical ones are particularly good. I like the logical approach without all the drama and BS that many videos include. Much appreciated. Regards John
Thank you John, I try my best, as I've said before I am by no means an expert and make a fair bit of mistakes, but I'm glad to be able to help out. I really just make videos I would like to watch myself and hope others like them. Thanks for the support. Dino
Thank you so much. I really am happy others like yourself find the content useful. I love making the videos and the feedback is motivational. Thanks again. Dino
Very informative video. I never realized the spark plug cap difference. Thanks for the tip. I've been following JR for a while now. He does post some great riding videos. I do remember seeing that ignition video and followed closely to see the out come. It's great that everyone can learn from one another. On that note, I'm looking fwd to part 5😊 Thanks again
Thank you for the feedback, It's amazing how you get to know different creators around the world and learn from their experience, I know there are many JR being one of them that I credit with much of the information you see on my channel. Thanks again. Dino
Your video was extremely detailed and very useful. Your repeated reference to look at the manual is important information and helps in doing testing in a logical manner i.e. not forgetting to test something. This video should be a " must keep" for DR owners. I suggest DR owners write down some of the test info and keep it on the bike. ( I carry a small cheap multi meter on the bike when touring as well as a diagram so I can bypass the side stand switch as it has caused problems for a riding buddy of mine). Thankyou Dino.
Glad you enjoyed it! These electrical videos are teaching me a lot as well, again I am an amateur like many others and I'm glad others like yourself enjoy the content. Dino
If your bike have trouble to start and kills the battery every three days you checked everything and the bike keeps discharging the battery check the 30A fuse in the starter relay it may be loose contact, bend the fuse contacts so it becomes more tighten
Hi Dino. Great series on DR650 electrical video. Please let us know what you did to resolved to rich running problem. Those plugs were black. My opinion is the carb mod is to blame. I have avoided the carb mod because I am happy with how my DR runs and this is contrary to many on the DRriders forum and other places. Call me a hold out. A video on the fixing the rich condition might change my mind! With much respect.
I think you're most likely correct, if it was not for the cold start issues I was having I most likely would have left it alone myself. Overall though I do like the mod. Thanks for the comment. Dino
Dino you seemed like the man to ask I acquired a put up wet 05 no start only crank Ignition gone with 100 ohm 5% tolerance 1/4 watt carbon film resistor o/y b/w(striped) ignition wires switch on orange red I swapped the green blue wires on cdi / pick up coil but might have made bad connection by swapping gonna try to reconnect/ new plug soon Bike cranks no spark ..newer stator/ pick up / coil and cdi🔬 🤞🏻 🏍 🔥 thanks again will keep you posted not gonna buy cdi lol Hope your summer 🎸
Your timing couln't be any better! 5 days ago my bike just died as I was out riding. No I don't get any spark in either of the plugs. After a lot of testing I narrowed it down to what I think it's and now I'm waiting for a new CDI unit. Looking forward to look at this video! Oh I get 30v from the CDI to the ignition system primary. Should be 12v to my understanding. After testing the stator and the pulse coil and the regulator I think it the CDI unit. I sure hope so!
Oh I think you can test the stator as well right? By testing in-between the 3 different yellow cables comes from the stator? Might be something to include or maybe you did and I just missed it.
Thank you for the shout out for my channel. You are an amazing resource for DR owners with such well produced and researched information.
Thank you JR, your channel rocks. Reminds me I have to actually get out and ride.

Hey Dino, off topic, but have you seen the most recent Fort9 video about the legendary DR650? You make brief cameo in it! Congrats!
