Visiting Kaiserstuhl In the Black Forest - Epic 9000km Motorcycle Adventure, Ep5
Finally a relaxing day in this motorcycle adventure, filled with amazing riding and incredible views!
After the motorcycle crash we managed to find a farm where we could camp for a couple of nights and visit the southern region of the Black Forest. Our journey today was visiting a Titisee lake for a nice lunch and spending the afternoon in the vineyards of Kaiserstuhl.

Trailer: Wales - The UK's Motorcycle Paradise
My 6-week tour next June will see me covering around 150-300 miles every second day. I am on vacation. I want to see the sites, taste the food and get a bit of a tan. Hopefully speak to other tourers. Not focussed tunnel vision following the white line on the tarmac. Just bought a GoPro but, it will be mostly used off the bike on walkabouts. Too many on-bike videos become boring after 10 minutes.
Welcome to boring Belgium! 😅
Greetings from Belgium
🤙🏼
Bro didnt even go to the cool countries in europe.
As someone who suffers from anxiety, I’m finding you hard to watch! 🤣 Consistently running late is clearly self inflicted. You’re overly ambitious as to the miles you can comfortably cover in a day. I aim for 200-250 miles max per day if on reasonably twisty roads, with my average speed hovering around 35-40 mph. It’s not the distance you cover, but the quality of the miles you should focus on.
Why vine yards? The English term pronunciation is vin yard.
Little target fixation unfortunately
Adventures start with having the time and the money. After which, a decent motorcycle and the mindset to focus on the miles to cover.
Hey my friend, your problem was not counter-steering or not enough lean. You already had lean, in fact, too much, which creates less traction on the tires (the more lean = the more risk.) Your problem was that you were not trail braking into the turn, and then you went from the inside (close to the line) to the outside (the road bank) with too much speed rather than from the outside to the inside at the apex on the brakes. You want to brake into the turn and trail off in the turn lightly until you find your exit point where you can then go for speed. Take a course in trail braking. You can do it on your Scrambler. It's worth every penny and you will never run off the road again. I took the Yamaha courses twice along with slow speed motorcycle cop courses. Education = safety. Great job on the videos! I'm enjoying the ride here is Japan, except for the crash :)
I will upset a lot of people, but these kind of "inspirational/adventure" videos is the whats wrong with the current motorcycling. Good for the motorcycle industry though punter has to sell a kidney and remortgage the house thinking he otherwise will not have his dream "adventure". I did over 60k miles criss crossing europe over the period of six years while studying for my engineering degree living off rice and pasta. I did not need expensive bike, branded sponsored kit, london wage and especially a youtube channel. Had some spare time, some cash in hand, got on a bike and enjoyed the roads. More people need to do just that, instead of getting brain washed by these videos....
Greetings. What program do you use for navigation?
what did you expect? you going to discover Europe with a Triumph.. funny. next time buy something Japan brand for 9k km long trip. nice video!
You literally drove through our backyard. What a shame we missed you! And yeah and the police can be a bit iffy around these parts.
Phew that looked scary. Maybe a Beeline Moto 2 or some other Nav might be a good idea. Saved us from some Sketchy corners in the past.
Omg. Its a GPZ not gp zee also a ZZR not a double zr... cool video though. Love the Baffle.. top stuff
Always put your trousers outside your boots to avoid any water getting in....same for gloves....sleeves outside the gloves.
Narrow roadway, no room for error
Oh my goodness, at the moment you say “shit” 🙈 It was a absolute piece of luck, that the security board on the right was closed with a downside panel. This is not a standard on german roads.
It’s so easy to happen, like you said at least you’re not hurt . Just last year I high sided of my triumph 750 , it’s a risk we except , I’m thinking of buying an air jacket but they are expensive. Glad your ok , take care 👍🏍️
Target fixation & not looking through the corner. I did it many years ago and too crashed my Yamaha XJ 650. Glad you were okay!
Kudos to you for being prepared to share your horrendous riding and lack of skill.
Good to know you are okay, that is the most important thing, bikes can be fixed. This was unfortunately a classic target fixation incident brought on by poor positioning, watching the rider ahead instead of reading the road and a lack of understanding about the effects of breaking in the bend rather than before it. I am certain from your lack of experience riding on such roads that much of that will actually mean little or nothing to you at this stage in your riding. My advice is slow it down by 20%, do shorter trips and slower speeds and don’t be afraid to walk away from a riding day if the weather is so bad it’s going to be miserable, uncomfortable and pointless. Then when you get back to the U.K. invest in some advanced training with an open mind and a willingness to learn and improve. None of that is in any way meant as harsh criticism, I am sure you have been questioning yourself since the tumble so you don’t need beating up for what you have been man enough to share. Stay safe and don’t be discouraged.
I knew this would be a banger from the bike choice alone 😂 Scrambler is phenomenal. You reckon its doable with a speed twin with a cheeky fly screen on? 😂
Good you're ok 😅 sorry to ask but what brand is your backpack? Seems like a comfy thing
Glad your ok but slow it down ,ride your pace not others .
You said steering wheel a few times! I think you're longing for a car!
Hahaha I know I did correct myself at one point but I think given the circumstance I hope I can be forgiven 😅🙏
Glade your OK, this hammers home why I tour on my own. Love your London/ Caribbean accent.
So, France and Spain? Totally get it - sun, sea, wine, the whole dream package. But Belgium and Germany? Really? As a German, I’m just sitting here like, what is there to see? Our "nature" is 90% farmland, and the most exciting wildlife you’ll encounter is a cow chewing grass. And Belgium? A country that's basically one giant motorway service area? 🙃 The highlights basically boil down to: Belgium: "Oh look, fries and beer!" Germany: "Wow, a field. Oh wait, another field!" And let’s be honest, even for road trip fans, Germany doesn’t exactly scream adventure. Sure, we have some decent twisty roads in the Eifel, the Bergisches Land, or the Black Forest, but most of the time, it’s a straight drive through fields with an occasional tractor to spice things up. Exciting, right? 🙄 As a German, my travel bucket list has exactly one item left on it: Scotland. And why? Because nature there doesn’t politely sit by the roadside - it grabs you by the face, yells in your ear, and throws you into the Highlands with a gale-force wind! No boring pastures here - just Loch Ness, complete with a monster. The locals wear skirts (with pride!) and drink whisky like it’s water. Pure magic! 🏴 Long story short: I’d trade every square meter of farmland here for just one square foot of wild Scottish wilderness - and maybe a road with actual curves for once! 😄
Much Enjoyment 👍😎
17:00 is that dent in the tank supposed to be there?
I can relate to that feeling of wanting out for a while, taking a break from modern life to enjoy modern technology - motorcycles, is the best "do nothing" thing a man ca do, just ride and enjoy the view, have good conversations with strangers along the way and return home until the next trip. I rode my 2006 Honda Transalp for thousands of kilometers and never has a single problem, todays bikes are complete shit and make only for looks, bad mechanical design. Be safe.
Well, because of the way you present the intro to this series, I'm relieved to know you will survive this tour - even though you have the alps ahead of you at this point, I take it. You weren't going too fast, you just didn't turn the bike???? I was looking at the guy in front thinking he was the one going to crash - because he was on a rather poor line (in fact on the white line) that he had to adjust for when he suddenly saw the car coming the other way. Maybe that affected you I thought???
Thanks for taking us along the trip, great imagery and story telling, albeit a bit stressful at times due to your time pressure. Les Vosges are pronounced something like "voash".
Countersteer, countersteer, countersteer. It's how all two wheelers bank and most motorcyclists are not conscious about it. Check out the no-bs bike from the California Superbike school which shows how little effect body steering (bs) has. If you are coming in hot on a turn and didn't train yourself on countersteering, you'll always run wide since your shoulders lock up and you switch to ineffective weight shifting etc.
I wish I crossed your channel earlier because you were almost in my backyard.
Another great episode. Can’t wait for the next one!
Hope you and the bike are okay Jules 🙏🙏
👍
Way way way too much luggage on that scrambler
So good!! The drone footage of the vineyard region and that last stop of your day 😮💨 Wowzers, stunning! 🙌
Finally a chilled drama free episode
Hahaha I thought I'd let you guys have a breather from all the drama 😂
Good chat with the old dude on the triumph. Quality that 😊
Haha yh, Josua went to scout out the location at the top so thought I'd go check out the old Triumph 😁
Awesome ride. Love the view from the cockpit
Thanks so much!
The British and the Americans always fear the police. You don't have to. Don't speed and don't park illegally. It's not that difficult. Just learn how to behave!
Speed limits are so low it destroyes the joy of riding. No need to ride like crazy but comfortable riding is always above the limit
@@maucina12How bizarre. You need to get out of that armchair and get some fresh air.
@@davidmatthews3093 thanks for life advice!
Awesome place and video! Also, glad you are ok! 👍
Thanks so much mate and yeah all good 💪
I’m really enjoying the videography. I toured the Black Forest for the 1st time in May and you’ve brought back some great memories. I feel like I’m back there, whilst watching your Channel. Glad you’re okay.
Thanks so much really glad that you're enjoying the series and appreciate the kind words. Also the Black Forest was amazing despite spending so much time there I feel like I still have so much left to explore and cant wait to go back.
Nice video guys, looks like a good place to explore! Cheers, Steve
Thanks Steve, appreciate it and glad that you enjoyed it
Triumph... what a brand, what a quality 😂😂😂
