    I find that many cleaning systems, like Clean Mama and Fly Lady, often seem more suited to more active households with young children. When I try them, I often lose interest because they include tasks that feel like busy work. However, I do love the idea of using whiteboards around the house!

    Great tracking ideas. Thank you. I was just thinking that a bingo card might work and if you fill out a line you get a prize you have one hardest habit you’re trying to get done be in the middle and if you get an /or an x or | through the hardest habit, you get a double prize … or something along those lines. :). Thanks for the inspiration ❤😊

      Yes! I love the idea of using Bingo cards for habit tracking- and building in rewards! I just made a Self-Care Bingo Card with the idea that the reward is baked into the card- but specific rewards for more challenging habits is very sparkly! Thanks for sharing!!

    I’ve learned that if I read or listen to audio books, I will zone out. But the best way I can read anything is by reading along WHILE listening to the audio book (at a faster speed). It’s the same with podcasts - I can’t just listen to podcasts. I have to see the people talking and engaging with each other to stay focus on it (like yours on here). So for anyone here struggling with either, try both at the same time. Funny story: I use to work in a bookstore for years and would occasionally play audiobooks when I was working alone, often at 1.5 or 2x speed. Sometimes customers would come up and ask me how I can listen to it at double speed and understand. I looked at them almost dumbfounded: I wanted to ask how can they listen to that at the painfully slow normal speed. 😂

      I love your comment so much! I have also enjoyed reading a physical book while listening to the audio. I notice I do this more often with a challenging read- The Lord of the Rings, for example! Thanks for sharing your tips on doubling up with books and podcasts 🙂

    Another thing, Cleaning out your car is a great way to get ready for summer. And hitting it regularly to prevent the build up from summer activities. And restocking summer bags after outings so you are ready for the next one. I know ours can get messy quickly. That is on a to do list of mine.

  • @findingaway5512

    Yeah. I am not. Structure person. I have at least one kid that is. Actually probably two. I am a free spirit that likes adventure. But i have a husband that is very much routine and habit based. So navigating my needs for freedom and adventure while balancing house hold needs or expectations and respecting children with different energy and structure needs is a challenge. I know we need days here to rest but i also have some set event days taht things will be happening on a weekly basis. So certain days will be more laid back. Or some children may need to rest while others use their energy. We all need more movement and time outside this year. We have food sensitivities so usualy packing food and having a bag ready to go or in the car with summer items like swim suits, pool floaty, towels water shoes and extra set of clothes per person and a pair of flip flops. We love exloring creeks so having those thinsg and some nets or buckets on hand are a must. And the extra clotehs because we have been covered in mud or water more times then i can count because if there is water. My kids will get soaked. No matter what. And a picnic blanket. Snacks and water are a must so i usualy have a bag with water bottles teady to go and toss ice packs in there before we head out. And always have snacks or pack a lunch. Oh and I try to have sunscreen and bug spray with us always! We always need it. I will keep in my bag of towels and swim stuff. Sometimes I will have extra somewhere in the car that stays.

    • @findingaway5512
      @findingaway5512 Місяць тому

      If we do explore I bring in the wet stuff and put it in the washer right away if I can. Or hang up. And wet water shoes usually go on the porch. It has worked well.

      Oh and big ziplocks! the gallon ones come in handy if someone gets car sick. And great for wet clothes. And I have used the big Dollar tree one for water shows or swim stuff before. Or even a garbage bag. Just make sure it gets emptied! I also always put sunscreen and bug spray in a quart zip lock so it won't leak on other stuff. Because they will. The freezer bags are thicker than storage ones. I prefer those.

    I call this thing my “depression accessible shower”. While in the warm shower, I first brush my teeth. Then I use face soap to wash my face. Teeth first cause the face wash washes the stuff off around my mouth. Face next cause if I get face soap in my hair, I can wash it out. I have a cup high up in my shower that holds my toothbrush and toothpaste. Wash hair and body normally. It sounds unhygienic, doing it all in the same place at once. But brushing my teeth in the shower while I shower means brushing my teeth at all. Washing my face in the shower means I am washing my face at all. If I didn’t, I simply wouldn’t brush or wash my face. These are more so tips for problems with motivation. If you already DONT do these things (brush your teeth, wash your face, etc), then this really helps you finally take back a bit of that hygiene. You only have to motivate yourself to get into the shower. Everything else just happens. Instead of having to motivate yourself to get in the shower, and then also clean your face, but soap gets in your hair now, and also needing to spend time to brush your teeth, etc etc.

    • @adhdfriendly

  • @anthrogal78
    @anthrogal78 4 місяці тому

    I think for me, the Nomophobia might be from two things: (1) anxiety of not being reachable in an emergency (especially with no landline at home) but mostly (2) pure ADHD boredom, especially surrounding waiting, meetings at work, and eating. I’ve always had to watch or read something while eating. When I was a kid it was reading the cereal box or the local newspaper; older it was reading books, now it shifted to social media on the phone. To like just sit there and eat, it’s painfully boring. Working on knitting (easy projects) during work meetings (where appropriate) has helped me quite a bit there; I can actually pay attention while knitting :D.

    • @adhdfriendly
      @adhdfriendly 4 місяці тому

      Me too (about the knitting!). I literally wanted to learn how to knit for over 20 years because I always wanted something to do with my hands while watching TV. Now I knit during meetings, in waiting rooms and during my book club. Productive and focused! ;-) When I was a kid I also read the back of cereal boxes every morning! I used to race my brother down to make sure I could be the one to "call" the box. If he got there first, he was the one who got to read the box while we ate! I forgot about that until just now. ;-) And, back to nomophobia- I do understand the challenge of needing to be able to be reached in an emergency. I added an Ooma internet phone line (not landline) so I could let go of my cell phone a bit more easily when I am at home. Thanks for sharing your experiences!!

    Really interesting process, thank you for sharing it! I struggle with plans like this because I find that nearly every day something will change (I'm ill, a new priority comes up, I overrun my time slots, etc.) and I need to spend a bunch of time re-planning, and/or I get annoyed with myself for not achieving what I said I would. I find this so frustrating that I end up not doing the planning in the first place because it feels like a waste of time. I think it works out ok, I have a more flexible system which still helps me get stuff done - but if you have had similar problems and have strategies for dealing with them, I'd be interested to hear them!

      Thanks for your post! The place I like to focus on is asking, "what structure would work to capture the to-dos that pop up during the day?" Asking this can give you have a chance to pause for a second or two in order to decide if this new ("sparkly") task takes priority over what you already decided to work on that day. I have had clients use the idea of supporting their future self (by doing the things they planned) by honoring their past self (the time they spent making the plan to do the things that day). Let me know your thoughts! 🙂

    I love the lord of the rings movies. I have never tried reading the books. I feel like maybe i could do an audio book maybe. I did buy the trilogy for my daughter. Actually it has The Hobbit with it too. She hasnt read it. She does read a lot of novels for school though novels are not my strong point. I think they only novel ever read completely was probably of mice and Men and that was only because I had to read it a second time for summer school. 😂

    • @adhdfriendly
      @adhdfriendly 5 місяців тому

      I love those movies too. What I am really enjoying about reading the books is how I am learning things that I missed in the movies but didn't realize it. And, of course, the books are able to go into so much more detail on each character, so I feel like I am getting to know them so much better, which I love! For some reason, I am noticing I need to listen to the audio book version and read the book at the same time to really make sense of it. I think it is because I am listening to the books narrated by Andy Serkis and he does such a great job with the voices that it is like I am watching the movie as I am reading the book. 🙂 Definitely not an easy read (in my opinion), but I am glad I have found a way that is working for me (book + audio book together). A lot of my clients prefer audio books to reading ebooks or physical books, so that might be something to experiment with? I would love to hear what you think if you try it!

    • @findingaway5512
      @findingaway5512 5 місяців тому

      @@adhdfriendly of Andy Serkis does it? With voices!!! That sounds amazing! Good to know!!!! Yes I always did better reading a long while listening to somebody else read even in school. I know that with audiobooks I prefer it to be read by the person who wrote it if it's like a nonfiction book because often I like hearing from the person who is passionate about it because their feelings come through. I think that's another reason why I like learning from podcasts and particularly interviews because every single one is different and you hear personal experiences that relate the content in an applicable way to people's lives and I am good at relating to other humans and can feel a connection through that. Which helps me make associations and learn better or apply things to my own life. If it is a monatone or voice without feeling or a robot voice I can't follow along well. I need the feeling in someone's voice. Probably the reason I always liked movies more than books because I can see the character I can feel what the actor is trying to portray feeling wise or in the way they say things. It makes me feel more connected with the characters. I have read pieces of people's books that I had first listened to them speak and then I can read hearing it through their voice so that also makes things more tangible for me. Or I know where they were coming from or the direction they were going in. So I am more engaged. Though still depends on my brain being on board that day. I definitely am not a finisher. 😂

    Dear Patty, most of the times I like to just listen to your videos and give a glance whenever you are showing something: you have a great voice and provide clear informations, so it is usually enough to just HEAR your voice. However sometimes we need to SEE in details, like in this video where you show the different planner layouts. That's when I find an issue! The video is surrounded by a BLACK RECTANGLE that occupies half of the screen. Even if I try to enlarge the view on a big display, I still cannot see any of the important details, because the video itself takes less then 50% of the size of any screen. That's a shame, because you provide so many good ideas! :) Maybe this occurs only in your older uploads (I have not yet seen the 2024 format!), it's just something I have noticed and maybe you can take into consideration, if you find it useful. In general, I'm sure you will talk again of planners and other items that we need to see, so maybe you could get closer to the camera or even shoot overhead to show the details (you can you take a look at any "plan with me" video, to get what I mean) :D

The year reflection and intentions (23 for 2023...) sound interesting but kind of too much, for me. I prefer to give my energy to HABIT CHANGE, because I find habits can be tiny and still have huge impact, and they are not binded to January but can be started whenever! Happy to break it down for you. I spend on average 1.5-2 hours planning an episode (more if it is a topic that requires more research, etc.) and about an 1-1.5 hours to record the episode and do my part of the editing process (downloading videos, naming them, uploading to shared drive to be edited and writing podcast description). My podcast corner (where I record the podcast) is set up all the time so all I need to do is turn things on get myself there with my notes and I am ready to go. I know I could do more- and maybe even less- but I have it down to a system that I can sustain, so it works well for me for now. If the system is too complicated I will resist it and that will eventually result in me stopping. Hope that is what you were looking for 🙂

    Showering is one of those mundane tasks that can become a gift of self care, if we only put a little more intention into it. In winter I like to turn on a small heater in the bathroom just a few minutes before I take a shower, so it's all cozy when I undress. We can also get music in the background, with a bluetooth speaker sitting on the sink (that's stimulating or relaxing depending on the playlist we choose) . I also would like to try scented candles... I have noticed it's also crucial the TIME OF THE DAY: if I shower in the morning I usually arrive late at the office and I also feel too "relaxed" to work... for me shower needs to happen after dinner, so then I sleep wonderfully and in the morning is one less thing to do! Most of all, it seems a good idea to just make a habit of it, little by little, discovering what works for us and what we like best.

    I appreciate your suggestions in this video, about being fully ourselves. It's sad that sometimes we sacrifice our autenticity in order to fit in. We want to make other people comfortable but it's not a favour to them or to us, to put on a mask because it's hard to maintain an artificial image and the relationship becomes uncomfortable in the end. I think that being vulnerable shows courage! If we can accept that we are ok even if we are not "perfect", we experience real freedom; in fact, when we are ourselves completely, we can finally find friends and people who love us just like we are, flaws and all, and we can relax into our human imperfection :)

      Thank you for taking time to post this question. My background as special education teacher and now a certified ADHD coach has helped a lot in this area. I have always been sensitive to expectations- both my own and those of other people. I can be intending to do something myself, but if someone comes into the room and asked me when I am going to do that thing, all of my energy immediately drains away. When I started my coach training in 2012 I learned about sensitivities and ADHD, and specifically related to language and how specific words can impact us differently. That awareness resonated because I knew that was true for me, so it was something I was very motivated to understand and use to support myself, my family and my clients.
