People please use Aluminum Oxide sanding discs can get at Harbor Freight, dont use sand paper, also use Marine Paint. DO NOT USE NON MARINE PAINT ON A BOAT.... Unless you want lung cancer use pink filters ONLY for sanding, do not use pink filters for painting. Use the appropriate white filters for painting..

Late to the party - but wanted to add something: I really don't see the advantage of reeling up with the line coming of the spool in the same direction as the rotation of the bail arm. Firstly, filler spools are usually much larger in diameter than the spool of the reel - especially close to the arbor. So at best you are getting somwhat reduced line twist, never zero. Secondly, if you manage to spool up with no line twist whatsoever (using a drill with the spool attached and 'manually ' winding it on, for example), well, then you will have the line twisting as it comes off the spool during casting. And if you ever need to remove line twist and you let the line float down a river or you cast on a field, remove the weight and reel back in while holding the line under tension between your fingers (so it can untwist) - well, then you are in the same boat as if you had spooled up the line coming straight of the spool in the first place

Steel wire brush on aluminum is an invitation for galvanic corrosion between steel and aluminum. You should have used aluminum oxide sanding pads. Your respirator filters do nothing for paint fumes. Those filters are for dust particles only.

Here's a tip, prior to painting, put hot tap water in a bucket then set your rattle cans of paint inside , shake cans and repeat until cans are warm, the paint will atomize and flow way better plus every bit of the paint will be used! Especially if you use bedliner or undercoat paint.

Great results, really like the color. I have an old aluminum boat, and she looks rough, but I am too sentimental to paint her. The faded paint is from being out in the summer sun on high adventures. The dents and dings are stories and character of a boat that has stories to tell. Big fish have been caught and even bigger fish got away for next time 😊

I've owned several aluminum boats in my lifetime and I even camouflaged a few that I hunted out of. I never repainted any of the others, because the factory paint was still in good condition. My last boat, a 14 foot Proline V-bottom, has no paint at all. This is the way it came from the factory and since I no longer hunt, I like it. When I first bought it (used) I replaced the wooden seat tops and they now have side by side pine 2X10's left natural and painted with clear a spar urethane. I just buffed the aluminum a little to make it shine and it looks great. After looking at many boats since then, I've come to realize that I'm the only person on my lake that has an unpainted aluminum boat!

Look at the color of the water. In cedar Water which is dark, a green line is fine. Use a small sinker because trout with take you to the rocks and near the edge. Split shot sinkers are fine and you can take them off or put more on easily. Trout like most fish, like movement.. I always prefer live bait mostly Canadian nightcrawlers that are left long,

I always use Power Pro and according to the weight of the fish. It'can through lily pads easily and some logs. It's strong but if it gets caught in a tree, you have to cut the line. Lake trout are much bigger and I don't fly fish, When in streams, it is natural for trout to move swiftly through the water.

It would be best if you never sandblasted an alloy boat. It destroys the integrity of the aluminium and effectively blows "grit" into the pores of the metal. People think it’s preparing a surface; it's not true… Let's delve into the fascinating world of chemistry. When oxygen in our atmosphere interacts with aluminium, a reaction occurs. This reaction manifests as a discolouration of the metal. It's the metal's way of trying to form a protective oxide layer... If you paint the alloy surface, this aluminium dioxide will eventually reject any paint applied to the metal. Metals need to be sealed to separate the Oxygen from the alloy. Polish, even the excellent carnauba wax, will also be rejected from the aluminium. Aluminium needs to be sealed, and some space products are now available. Google ‘marine clear coat’ - avoid urethanes - those are not UV-stable so that they will crack. That crack allows the ingress of water, and again, you get bubbles under your paint. The best polymers we have found are made in the USA. One is attributed to projects for NASA. The greenish marks on the metal are, I think, Zinc Chromate, which is old-school aircraft protection paint. Still used today but the clear coat polymers are better.

This is pretty much the same method I used on my boat. Mine is a 16' and I painted the inside a matte gray and the outside a semi-gloss red. I also chose to leave the bottom unpainted as that was where the most wear would be. It's been good to go with no scratches since 2021.
