Swing sucks.

All this technology and the scores aren’t changing. Maybe it is the talent, training, work habits and digging a swing out of the dirt that is what is determinant. Courses are longer now than in the persimmon days so that old technology wouldn’t work. Back then Ben Hogan could reach Par 5's in two, but they were a lot shorter than they are today. I don’t think an old persimmon driver and 3 wood could be hit far enough on today's par 5's. The long par 4's today would also be a challenge. Many are designed for a short to mid iron approach and without the sufficient distance from the tee, it would be. Long iron of fairway wood approach if it could be reached all. So I am a believer that Ben Hogan and the other greats of yesteryear would adjust to the new equipment and be able to be winners in a new era but because of the yardage differences, I’m not sure scores would be lower. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Nicklaus had his best scoring average in the 80's. Maybe that was when he switched to metal woods and before courses got much longer. I know in my own game, as my driver distances are at least 30 yards shorter now than 20 years ago and that scoring is way more difficult. I guess that is why they invented Senior tees so us older guys can still reach a par five in two sometimes. 😀😀
