The Mutants Rising mod is a highly anticipated Fallout 2 mod that has yet to see a release date. Last year .Pixote released images of all the maps he'd made onto the NMA forums and I wanted to make a video showcasing them. These map levels look really good, imo, and make the world of Mutants Rising look incredibly interesting. I hope I get a chance to see it released one day :) www.nma-fallout....

@miki-fv3ts sadly I can't really say how much longer, there's a whole bunch of content that people are implementing still, but there's also a lot that's already implemented. It'll be a fairly sizeable mod when finally released.

hey is it possible to recreate the entirety of Fallout New Vegas in Fallout 2 engine using these tools? Would like to know honestly. I might "Try" and by try i might because i want to do it but i feel like i am not experience enough in fallout 1/2 modding compared to new vegas / fo3 modding.
depends on what you mean by "recreate". You can make individual maps that have all the characters and quest dialogs for a specific area, but the area itself will always be a relatively small 2d map. Multi-level combat isn't a thing (well it can be faked a bit, but any 3D aspects will have to be squished down into 2D). Otherwise everything else is just a matter of creating/importing the art, setting it up using the Fallout 2 Mapper, then creating/attaching all the scripts and dialogs to the characters and maps. Definitely not an easy task, but could easily take a couple of years, give or take any AI that might help. Does that help?
@@quantumapprentice8120 that's what i kind of mean. not an exact recreation but mostly squish down New Vegas to be more 2D Gameplay turn-based over 3d real-time gameplay like it usually is. i think its possible in theory. I remember seeing an artwork image floating around of Fallout new vegas "The STrip North Gate" using Fallout 2 assets. on reddit somewhere. but of course its beyond my modding skills honestly. lol. but i got a pretty big ambition for modding in general to try and tackle something new and challenging. it probably will never happen for me to complete. As cool as it would be to see a new-vegas kind of experience in a Fallout 2 like engine. i always liked turn-based games more then the real-time ones. Things just go by too fast for my liking in the real-time games so i like things slower and more "turn" oriented. where you have to be more methodical with your moves. but of course my modding skill for this game in particular is essentially zero knowledge. So probably too ambitious of a project to undertake honestly should start small make a few smallish maps and then work towards my ultimate goal of making New Vegas style map in fallout 2 engine i guess.
What's your opinion on DJ Unique's dialogue tool? I like it, but don't have much experience importing what I've written in it into scripts
I don't think I've used it, can you drop a link? I mostly edit the dialogue files directly, but all I've really done is minor fixes, not write out entire conversations. Its easy enough to edit the dialogue files since they're just regular text files, but I can see how a full tool that keeps track of nodes would be more useful.

As a side note - would I be right in saying *gasp* that Tim Cain was wrong when he said Fallout's projection is cavalier oblique, when in fact it's trimetric?
Tim Cain himself actually issued a correction about cavalier oblique in one of his channel videos, though I'm not sure I could find it easily right now :)

How did you speed up the game?
if you have sfall installed you can change the speed by holding ctrl and pressing num-pad keys 0-6 by default. Hey, i've got severals issues creating the map in fact exit grids are such a mess, 1/ how to set the player starter ? 2/ exit grids can get to the same map but different level right? in case of a basement we put the map number, the level an the exit grid hexe number but is ther a way to make it with the elevator skin or script? 3/how to put the red hexe block for the character not pass thru the object scenaries or whaterver wall and stuff? thank you so much i'm trying to understand checking the game maps and npc scripts but still learning and not easy for rookie modders i hope i can share you asap map and scenarios.

sorry "how to delete red hexe blocks"? i found it in scenaries but don't know how to delete them now lol
1) the mapper menu in the top left corner (invisible by default, you have to hover the mouse pointer over it to get it to pop up), under Scripts/Set Start Hex 2) elevators work differently, I've tried figuring them out but have had little success. if you show up for stream I'll try and test them out a bit tonight/tomorrow 3) there are 3 types of blocking hexes, 2 wall, and 1 scenery, the wall blocking hexes are #620 and #621 (one is marked s.t. which should mean shoot/see through, ie critters can aim and shoot through this hex but can't move through it, used for windows, cages, certain types of doors, etc), the scenery blocking hex is #66 and I think it blocks seeing/shooting through. Don't feel bad for asking questions, gives me a good direction to know what videos I need to make :)
@@diegodelavega7 in order to delete them you have to see them: there's a button labeled TBOV which stands for "Toggle Block Object View" which marks normally invisible blocks on the map with hex symbols. While TBOV is enabled, you can use the delete key to switch to delete mode and just click on the blocks like normal :)

Hello Quantum Apprentice, I know this comment isn't relevant to what this video has presented, and while I am in awe of the art presented here there is an issue that I wish to bring to your attention. There was a comment I made on your "Fallout 2 Modding - World Maps" video which I'd urge you to see as soon as possible as in short I suspect the MSK2BMP2020 file is potentially harmful to users in the same vein as the original RegSnd file before you recompiled it.

@@quantumapprentice8120 Thx, one more question, i had some issues executing Mapper (i had reinstaled it etc) and now i can't load my newmap project. I still have the .edg .map and cdg but it doesn't appears when i try to find it in File\open map. :/
@@diegodelavega7 hmm....my first step would be to double check the config file and make sure its pointing to the correct Fallout 2 folder, also make sure the map file is in the correct folder "Fallout 2/data/MAPS" Does this help?

About the dialogues i can't find my new script or load it in mapper, maybe its the same problem of file location anyway it's just basic dialogue but i would like to know hoy to create a full conversation if you could do a more detailed tuto it would be awesome Thanks a lot

【Sunglasses Pirates】Would love to know how Fallout Et Tu mod affects charisma... still this guide has made most sense and i'm thorough reading so i'll trust this guide but i think i'm going for high charisma if i understood correctly that that's what you meant by "redistributing the points as you see fit" so let's hope that was not a joke
Huh... if you're playing Et Tu then that's a good question, I'm not sure if Lexx did anything unique with the scripting, or if he mostly copied it 1 to 1 from the original game. I'm thinking he probably copied it, and charisma has little to no effect on Et Tu, but that needs some verification. If you happen to find any differences, I'd love to hear about them :)

Yes, the original Russian language dialogue is included with the installer. It's the English translation that we worked on to make it as good as we knew how.

I can't get the day and night cycle to work..., it works on my first map but refuses to on the other 2. I can't remember how I did it. Searching for the answer yields no results.
I'm not sure why it worked on your first map, but what you're looking for are the "Lighting" macros located in UPDATMAP.H, which you can find in the HEADER folder. Generally speaking most people just call "Lighting" from the map script, but you can set a map to just one light level by calling "set_light_level(int level);" There are also some pre-defined macros for indoor only maps (like caves or military bases) which you can find on the same header file, and one special macro located in BASE.H that changes lighting if you repair a generator. Does that help?

И тогда, получается, что вместе с камерой должен меняться и источник света. Тогда тень будет оставаться на своём месте. Но пока не понятно, как сделать так, что бы это делалось автоматически, как с камерами.
yes that's true, the light source in the original was at a slight angle, and more than likely the original artist just rotated the critter instead of (effectively) rotating the camera as my script does. I don't have any easy answers to exactly match the original right now, but I do plan on re-visiting this after the MR mod is released. As someone who has not being paying any real attention to the mutant rising development since 2009, has mutants rising story incorporated Fallout New Vegas lore? Or are they sticking to their original pre-bethesda vision of fallout?
