What about breast augmentation? Low supply from that and formula had to supplement with formula
This video is awesome! So helpful - we are now working to get a deep latch but I noticed my LO is still chomping down in that motion even though the latch is deeper than before. Do you have any tips? An IBCLC said he doesn’t have any oral restrictions
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Hi. I'm approaching week 3. Im concernes if i start too early, or doing too many pumps, it would leas to engorgement issues
Many mums worry about this and it means they don't pump when they often need to. You'd have to be pumping super frequently to create a huge oversupply, so don't worry about pumping every now and then. Those early weeks are actually a great time to do it because it's when your body is producing the most ;)
When pumping do you continue to pump even though you aren’t getting any milk? I’m trying to save my supply and an only getting one ounce cumulative. So when I first start pumping my right side empties in 7min & my left side about 5min o r less. When I try to go back and fourth as you suggested with power pumping, there isn’t any more milk. It all emptied in the first 7min of pumping. Please share any ideas. Thank you in advance! 💛
You can still continue to stimulate even without any milk coming out, especially if you're trying to boost your supply. This stimulation sets of your milk making hormones! Also - try some hand expressing after the pump can no longer get milk out - you'd be surprised what you can get!
This comment is long overdue. This video saved me and my baby. This video, especially tips #2 and #3 is what helped me get a latch at all. Tip #3 is just a lifesaver. I spent two weeks working with multiple lactation consultants and none of them mentioned it! Now my baby is 5 months old and his ped called him "juicy" because he is gaining weight very well. Thank you!! I've shared this video with every struggling mom I know and it's helped them too. It's been reshared in our mom group multiple times. God bless you. I can't thank you enough.
That is amazing to hear - thank you so much for taking the time to comment!! You've absolutely made my day to hear that it's helped you so much, and love that your bub was called 'juicy' by his paed. That's super cute!
Can I pump and breast feed
Genuine question…could my actual nipples be pointing too far to outwards? Little one was born 20th July, hospital staff gave me similar tips/techniques and said I was doing it well but the pain was and still is excruciating, exactly as you describe how they would be chewing/sucking. I tried your technique today, specifically the slide back and put in but feel if I slide back then the nipple itself is landing automatically on his hard palate so he can get his mouth latched at the bottom of the areola. hope that makes sense! Feeling really rubbish about myself and would love some more advice before I go to the support clinic tomorrow. Thank you
Sorry to hear you’ve had such a challenging time so far. I’m struggling to picture exactly what you’re talking about but if it’s landing near hard palate then baby definitely isn’t taking a deep enough latch. Is baby opening their mouth wide to latch? You might like to check out my video on tongue tie and also on exercises to help latch. Depending on your birth experience muscular restriction for baby might be impacting too :)
This has been so helpful! My question is what do I do about babies hands? I am trying to get him in close but he just won’t remove his hands near his face and when he does I get a 2 second window. Any suggestions?
This is super common. Newborn babies are like little springs and it’s a gradual process for them to uncoil (and bring hands/legs away from their midline) over the first few months. Bring babies hands around your br3ast (like bub is giving you a hug). Sometimes you’ll have to fight against their resistance but they’ll then sit with one hand around breast and the other resting on top (ish!)
Hello on the first position , while the head is on the arm, does it not hurt their ear
No - they’ll just be resting on your arm.
Thank you!!!! You helped me sooo much!! I was about to breakdown!!😭🤍
You’re welcome!
How long are the colostrum syringes good for in the freezer?
You can keep any breastmilk (colostrum included) for 6 months in a separate freezer (not like the little freezer compartments in a fridge) although ideally use it within 3 months :)
From the bottom of my heart thank you…I am 5 weeks in and was ready to throw in the towel…like many of these women said crying in toe curling pain at every feeding. You are wonderful thank you for your help, I am beyond grateful. 🥲
You are so welcome! And thank you for taking the time to comment 🙏🏻 I’m so glad it’s helped!
Mit dem du die Brüstefein von Hand geben kannst und du bebihlstgutgemart😊😅😮😢🎉
Thank you so much this has helped me immediately after 5 weeks of pain. I’m writing this while nursing my baby using your technique ❤
That’s amazing to hear! I’m thrilled that it’s worked for you :)
What if the baby is doing all of these correctly but it’s painful?
If it still feels painful then I'd suggest taking a look at this - ua-cam.com/video/jAASIwSYdI8/v-deo.htmlsi=3J0sajAlSjF0El3s :)
Does the pain go away instantly if the latch is good? What if I have a difficult time using the same hand as the breast is on? Is it possible to use the opposite hand?
Yes you can use the opposite hand, but you'll be using your index and middle finger in a scissor shape from the top of your breast :) It can still feel tender if you've had damage from a bad latch that is still healing but the sharp pinching pain with each suck should go away.
@@alissabrownibclc thank you so much!

Thank you!! The most straight forward video yet!!
That's great to hear it was helpful!
Worked well for me after 4 weeks of suffering to make my baby properly latch-on ❤
That's great to hear!
I am gathering courage to try this technique.. i hope it will be really helpful for me too..😢
Good luck! :)
Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
I'm still working on her latch. She is a little barracuda. Her first latch was great and now she's regressing and this makes way more sense to try
Look forward to hearing how you get on! :)
I’m just so glad I found you the hospital people that work for lactation really don’t help they just watch and let you figure it out on your own 💔😭 thank you thank you thank a million times ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Omg literally. My "lactation consultant" said, just de latch her and do it again... Oh ok..
That's amazing to hear - I'm so glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much, this is my 3rd baby and somehow the first time it’s been explained to me this clearly. What a world of a difference! ❤️
Saved this for the next feeding. Crying while i watch it, crying from my nipples burning like crazy for the past week. It took 6 weeks of burning with my son, many people tried to help but just told me my nipples are too sensitive. I pray to god its not gonna be 6 weeks again as im really, really in bad pain. Thank you for this, i ll try later
Same here 😢😢 hope you find your way to a good latch
Any update?
@@SterTW still in pain...i think its just me
How did you get on? If you're still in alot of pain definitely check this out - ua-cam.com/video/jAASIwSYdI8/v-deo.htmlsi=3J0sajAlSjF0El3s and this ua-cam.com/video/d7_6oyABoq8/v-deo.htmlsi=QOYiWHA7yaNEbbXK
This is a dumb question, sorry but if you feed and then pump, and later feed again what do you do with the milk you pumped? Do you freeze it or is the only purpose to stimulate milk production? Sorry, early in pregnancy and confused :D
Can a tongue tie return??? Had togue tie sorted. Was detected as I had sore and bleeding nipples. Everything calmed down, was going well, but now we have clicking, no deep latch, messy feeds. She ofter even refuses to take the breast. Using nipple shields now, as that got her back on the breast, tried weaning, but without success. 😢
This is so so useful! Thank you so much!
How is Colostrum fed to baby? I'm a FTM and am now home. I've started to collect and keep in the fridge but didn't know how to give it to baby. Thanks!
Thaw it out in hot water while it’s in the container, when thawed make sure it’s warm not hot. Test by dropping a small amount on your wrist. You can transfer to a spoon or syringe and slowly let baby drink it
Hey Thank you for this amazing video. It's so helpful and well done with the ttop view shot. Do you this it is possible to do this and also use the chin as an anchor as you explain in other video? If so... Do you have a video doing this? Or can you explain the step by step please? Thank you again
Why nobody else has made it so clear and concise to follow and learn, I don't know! But thank YOU.
Hlo mam , my baby not latching so i am exclusively pump 4months . She was entered 5 month so this time i get only 3 oz is this ok for my 5 month baby plz rply mam how to manage the pumping schedule to.increase milk
The average milk intake for breastfed babies at this age is around 750ml per 24 hours, but this can vary. Some feeds may be smaller than others. Most important is to look at your baby’s weight and make sure she’s consistently gaining weight and following on or around her centile line.
I watched both videos twice and just latched my 2 week old baby and immediately had a better experience. Thank you. 🙏🏾 I was about to give up and go with bottles. This helped so much!!!
That’s amazing to hear - well done!
Thank you. Is there anyway to show different positions and how you’re getting baby to latch? It worked for me on day 1. When I tried to do it again yesterday I didn’t have the same luck. I gave up and have been pumping the last 24 hours due to sore boobs and frustration.
Wow, this video is SO helpful!
Thanks! 🙏🏻
My daughter is 11 days old, she had a late diagnosis of a tongue tie. We got it fixed but i know her latch has been really bad. Its painful 😢. At her next feed ill try the chin trick.
Try this technique too - ua-cam.com/video/d7_6oyABoq8/v-deo.htmlsi=g1-JAuy91MUDrtqg
As soon as I watched this video and for my first try, my baby latched perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing this ❤
You’re welcome! ☺️
I'm a new mom and really struggling with breastfeeding. I'm currently using nipple shield otherwise baby won't drink and I'm having really really horrible pain.
Try this technique too - ua-cam.com/video/d7_6oyABoq8/v-deo.htmlsi=g1-JAuy91MUDrtqg It would also be worth having your baby assessed for tongue restrictions if they’re reliant on shields
Thank you so much Alissa. My newborn is 1 and half month old. I really struggled a lot from his birth and cried at night. Very painful cracked nipple. Feeding with pain. I wanna do exclusive breastfeeding but this pain lead me to stress. Your video was so helpful for me. Now I'm started feeding without pain and discomfort. Nobody teaches me like the way explained. Thank you Jesus to let me see this helpful video.
That’s lovely to hear - I’m so glad it’s been helpful!
My baby is preterm 34 +3 and now he is 2.5 months old he is not opening jis mouth wide and when i try flipple method as well he is not opening his jaws
This could be to do with jaw tension. Take a look at this video - ua-cam.com/video/t_iYSaXwrKM/v-deo.htmlsi=jfs3H8xBTHYT8F-F
Very helpful video for a beginner breast feeder ❤
That’s great to hear it was helpful :)
See this al the time at our Tongue Tie Clinic
And it’s so often missed by other HCPs isn’t it! :)
What if I don’t have nipples that harden like that? Kind of like flat nipples? I understand that they need to feed from the breast but if my nipples can’t hit the inside of their mouths where it should how do I fix that?
Yes you’re right that what’s important is a deep mouthful of breast. The main challenge mums have with flatter nipples is that baby isn’t getting that stimulation in the roof of their mouth to trigger their sucking reflex. You can try using breast pump/everter for a few minutes before feeding or manual stimulation. The other really helpful part is getting the angle right - try using my sandwich technique, I’ll link below and really exaggerating nipple point up to the roof of baby’s mouth as they latch.
ua-cam.com/video/d7_6oyABoq8/v-deo.htmlsi=lkWK-cCwOK2Q65JK
İt is been a month that i cannot latch my baby properly while the midwifes that i seeked out for do it successfully. My baby can latch but i cant do it by myself. Feeling guilty and miserable as non of these tips work for me😢😢😢😢
It’s definitley not your fault. I’m sorry you’re feeling so rotten. Have you tried this - ua-cam.com/video/d7_6oyABoq8/v-deo.htmlsi=lkWK-cCwOK2Q65JK
İ can't latch my baby properly after a month. İ started giving her bottle because i still have terribly sore nipples and they don't get any better because of poor latches. She was delivered by vacuum extractor i don't know if it has to do with my poor latches. I will definitely try these exercises. Thank you.
Have you had your baby assessed for tongue tie? And tried this ua-cam.com/video/d7_6oyABoq8/v-deo.htmlsi=lkWK-cCwOK2Q65JK
She's been assessed by pediatricians and obstetricians and she has no problem but still I couldn't figure out how to put areola when she opens her mouth. She sucks on my nipple. It has been 40 days and I feel like a failure 😔
@@wronganswersonly643I was in a similar situation with my first one and changed to exclusive pumping because I didn’t want my baby’s weight to reduce. But mom, You are doing great! A mom who is worried about her child is never a failure. As long as your baby is getting fed, don’t worry. It will become easy. Try getting help from a lactation consultant. I am getting help for my 2nd one now because I want to do breastfeeding only.
@@wronganswersonly643 it’s impossible to say without assessing myself but all I would say is that most paediatricians and obstetricians have little to no training in breastfeeding, let alone the specialist training it takes to assess tongue function so I’d definitely be reaching out to an IBCLC with training in tongue assessment. May also be worth reviewing with a paediatric osteopath to deal with muscular tension ifpresent.
I don’t produce enough milk, my baby only latches for a few minutes until nothing else comes out, therefore the amount of milk is more likely 1oz to 2oz in both breasts then she takes bottle. 2 and a half hrs later she is hungry again then i put her on my breast to feed her and this goes all day. When would be the time to pump? Because if i pump there would be nothing left for the baby, and if she latches there would be nothing left to pump. 🥲🥲
So if you’re having ongoing issues with your supply I’d definitley encourage you to get some support from an IBCLC to get to the root cause. Try latching her first and then pumping 30-60 minutes after she has fed, or straight after if she doesn’t feed well or only feeds on one side :)
Fantastic 👏🏼
Thanks!
Such a helpful video, I was able to get a much better not painful latch the very next time we nursed. Thank you!!
You’re welcome! ☺️ I’m glad it helped :)
I really appreciate the modesty in using the wooly model instead of showing own breasts. Thank you. Hope this helps my prem Neice. She is also being drip fed. Latching is proving to be a struggle for mum. Really hoping this helps. Thank you 💖
