Thanks for subbing and for the compliment, it is much appreciated 😁👍. Glad you enjoyed it.
retroid pocket is smoother
Noted, from what I've seen it does perform a little bi better. Thanks for the feedback
$800, only 16gb of RAM, small battery and no VRR screen - this has no chance to beat Steam Deck or Rog Ally X.
Yip I agree with you on that one, it's gonna be difficult for them to wrestle market share from valve
Dduuude that's with that click bait 😂😂😂😂 you mention that this hardware will dethrone stream deck, and within 30sec you mention it's a windows based hardware so it will fail. 😂😂😂😂 I really don't like videos like this that focus on raw specs which doest matter here, dude
Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience on it man. The idea was to just discuss my thoughts on how it looks like the steamdeck and whether or not it will be any competition for it. Didn't intend to mislead anyone. Thanks for the feedback though, i am still learning how to do the informal of the cuff video's well. Will make work of being more on point with the next one.
Hm steam deck is only 400 euro with shipment and toll. If I add 100 i can get Rog z1. But if I add 100 more euro I can get z1 extreme. If I add 100 more I can get lenovo legion. If I add 100 more I can get this. If I add 100 more I can get a laptop that will absolutely dominate everything so far with 3x better battery and non integrated GPU. See my dilemma? :(
Lol, yip. Too much choice. I gues it will come down to what you want to use it for. I don't know if you could say that the steamdeck could repalce your main gaming pc. Possibly but it will be very limited. The ROG Z1 would be a closer match for that as it has windows. It won't be able to play AAA title games on high settings but for that kind of performance you would need at least a dediated RTX3060 or 4060 on a laptop and that will make them very expensive. Let me know what you decide though or if i can help you hash out the choice. i love discussing these kinds od choices.
do you have no other computer yet? because then the laptop is definitely the right choice. if you have a computer already and just need a portable gaming device, go for one of the handhelds. i decided on the legion go, its been working great so far (at least after updating everything).
@@kjellbeats good advice. I love the joy con and vertical mouse idea Lenovo implemented with the Legion go. After sale service on their products in south Africa is just not great. I worked in tech retail here and we had a lot of bad experiences with their repair agent and their policies of dealing with repairs. Have you had any issues with the unit? How long have you had it if I may ask?
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh ahh that makes sense. have only had it for a couple of days, aside from a single dead pixel I haven't found any issues with the device
@@kjellbeats Yea i do have a decent gaming pc, nothing outrageous and I am an avid game collector. I mainly wanted one of the handheld for emulation purposes. But then the doubt started creeping in after I saw that battery time is.. well lets just say insufficient. Thats when the chain reaction in my mind started to occur: if you are bound by a cord you might as well buy a laptop. But for some weird reason, I really want either steamdeck for its unmatched price divided by performance or Z1 extreme for its ability to emulate PS3 neatly.
Will this cost $400? no? ok then no.
I have to agree, At $800 id rather opt for a Second hand Ally or even a New Ally.
well, the lcd steam deck that costs this little is a lot worse than the zotac zone
Have you had experienc with the LCD on the low end steamdeck? I know their lower end LSD units don't have the 120Hz refresh rate and is not 1080P so they probnably will not look as good as the screne on the Zotac Zone.
The steamdeck got already dethroned by: Asus rog ally Z1 extreme (4 times more power), lenovo legion whatever (4 times more power), gpd win 4 (4 times more power), and so on. the steam deck still has only zen2 cores and I have no other choice to buy a asus rog ally X. Valve is like nintendo, they sell old hardware far too expensive. See htc vive 1000$+ vs quest series 300-400$. usually to keep up with the competition they should price the steam deck like around 200$, otherwise its not worth it anymore.
4 times more power? Try 30-50%. Steam deck also has ~double the battery life of the Rox Ally or Lenovo Legion Go. I'd prefer my handheld to be portable instead of plugged into a wall the entire time. I have a gaming PC that can play the latest titles. Also, I may not like Nintendo, but there's a reason their consoles sell so well.
What are you talking about, you get slightly better hardware, for worse software, horrible warranty and they basically play the sames games and you can pick up a Steamdeck used for like 1/3rd of the cost of either device you named, not to mention Emulation on the Steamdeck is awesome and Steam OS > Windows for Handhelds, also no touch pads fucking suck
@@JackKrieger-of7ef Its not so bad if youre already a windows user. Just turn on steam big picture mode and voila u have your "steamos". Slightly better hardware is also a nice joke of you. You basically get 8.9 fp32 tf instead of 1.5.
@@mrgarlic2639 ah. Ya sry i meant 593% more power.
@@mrgarlic2639 since its like the same architecture you can compare it directly. both amd both x86 architecture. divide 8.9 by 1.5 and you get the power difference. also.. the X is releasing july which has double the battery. Warranty is not a problem for me too. Im not living in a 3rd world country like you guys. I have a local store that even gives me back 100% of the money, if the product gets broken within warranty and they have their own warranty policy.
so whıch ıs stronger and better for ps 2
They are both pretty evenly matched as far as perfromance goes. but the RG556 has a newer version of Android that will stay up to date longer. The Odin will not have any further development for the android version on it which means in the next year or 2 you are going to find that some of the software needed to run PS2 games may become incompatible with the older version of Android on it. So my recommendation is to choose the RG556.
I have the system and I love it
Thanks for the Feedback, it is honestly a bit pricey for me but that doesn't change the fact that i think it looks Awesome! Hows the weight? Does it ever become too heavy to hold up?
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh and that’s the thing… it is not as heavy as you would think at least not for me, the width is a little too much, but it is not as heavy as everybody is saying it is. The best advice is to try it for yourself. Also if I’m going to have one complaints and that is they wait too long to update the operating system AYASpace. Other than that, I love this system.
@@1212Baboone Interesting, Appreciate the feedback. Really good to hear your view on it. Would love to own one but my budget say no! lol. One day, hopefully they get more regular with the ayaspace software by then.
I need help, when I Play gta the Settings are always on OpenGL and when I change it to Vulkan and restart it there is no sound and despite it the settings are on OpenGL and there is no more an option for Vulkan. What’s is the problem here??
Hi There. I am assuming you did the update to the 1.0.4 firmware? If so did you copy the contents of the "SD Base Package" to the original SD card you had in the unit after doing the Firmware update? It is covered in this guide and can be downloaded here: github.com/trimui/assets_smartpro/releases/tag/20240401. From what i have read online the problems you are experiencing could be due to the fact that this part of the process did not apply or possibly if you did apply this the files are corrupt. If you haven't applied this part of the process, try it and see if it resolves your problem. If you have already applied it you could have problems with the SD card you are using especially if it came with the unit (these card are notorius for being cheap and bad quality and failing after some time). Try cloning the SD card to a newer better quality one. You can also check out a more detailed setup guide by Joey from Joey's retro handhelds here: Joeye's Retrpo Handheld News in regards ot the 1.0.4 Update: ua-cam.com/video/gPfyqI1vhb4/v-deo.html for help with this. Hope this helps.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh thanks for the information, no I bought it 1 week ago, the latest software 1.0.4 was already installed and the sd was inside it’s not mine.
@@run3157 Ok, good stuff. It sounds like those additional update files was possibly not applied properly or it may be the SD Card thats failing. I would suggest redoing the copy over of the extra update files. If that doesn't work try to redo the file structure completely onto a new SDwith the update files included and see if that helps. Gotta take it one step at a time with this kind of thing to try and nail down where the problem is. Check joey;s guide i linked above for some guidance and let me know if you get joy or not.
At 3:38 they are showing a PSP not a PS Vita
My mistake dude, must have slipped by me. Thanks for pointing it out
Just buy on old flagship phone with a controller i rather buy a something that can run windows
The idea of a windows handheld with this device is a really interesting thought to me. It is a bit apple's and oranges but the prices are so close together something the ROG ally or Steamdeck are viable options compared to this unit. They are not as sleek though.
RP4P is far superior.
I was leaning towards it too, but the Oled screeen and comfortable ergonomics just seem next level to me. Have had a lot of good feedback on it aswell. What do you like most about the RP4 Pro?
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh yeah if you’re leaning towards those two features, the rg556 is better. I just think the performance, quality and the fact that the RP4P is pocketable is perfect. Those are all the features that have me sold on the device. I don’t trust Anbernic’s durability.
Keep it up buddy! Thanks for the review!!
Will do. Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement. It is much appreciated.
you're giving me a better option and dont even have the system.🤣
Lol, i can see how not everyone will agree wit that way of thinking. It's my 2 cents my man based on what hands on reviewers are saying and the facts i can see. I welcome debate however, if you disagree with my assesment make your case. i love discussing all aspects of these handhelds
I hope the rgcube will be more comfortable and pocketable 😊🎉
That was my hope aswell but i saw russ over at Retro Game Corps doing a pocket test with the RG Cube and it is a bit Bulky to fit comofortably. This will differ from person to person i guess and the size of the pocket but of the bat im not shure if it will be as pocketable as what i would wan't it toi be. Sad Story.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh the thing that I can't understand Is why everybody told that RP4PRO Is more powerful than RG556 If this One can ran all same games in equal way?
@@Ivan-hq2zkthe Chip on the RP4 Pro is slight😢 more powerful, maybe 5-10% that I've seen in testing. Thing is with real world experience you rarely notice that small a difference in performance. It's usually only when running the 2 units side by side on the same games with frame rate counters on that you can notice a difference
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh thanks,I'm Just asking because I want buy One and only retro console but good until PS2,but RG556 will come with games and RP4PRO no....thanks.😁
Do you actually have a unit on hand or is this all just hearsay?
Hi, no I unfortunately don't have a unit on hand. Would love to do that but just can't afford these at the moment. I love all things tech though and have a knack for analysis and distilling information. The facts in these videos are based of some of the top hands on reviews on UA-cam combined with my views and research into the device. I link the source video's I base my findings of off in the description so you can go check them out if you wanna double check me. Sort of like a succinct summary of a collection of hands on reviews in a relatively short video. I hope you find some value from it, if not I understand and wish you well.
I bought Retroid Pocket 4 with a grip and it's just perfect. For me the power matters.
Awesome, glad to hear that you are enjoying it. I clean forgot about optional grips when making the video 🙈. I can imagine that would make it much more comfortable. Thanks for the feedback
1440p has restocked and the D-pad has gone through two revisions and is fixed now. The device has updated multiple times since review units released and Turnip Drivers have released for the cpu. Personally I was looking for the switch lite style handheld. The specs helped my decision. While the odin 2 is more budget friendly for its power the pocket s was the high end and form factor I wanted.
Awesome, didn't know about the driver updates, Dpad and restocked 1440P. It is defenitely the most powerful uniut out there and i have to concede that i like the premium design. i have just never been someone to by top of the line when the second in line is cheaper and very almost just as good, that's just my personal preference though. Unit hasn't shipped yet though has it? Would really like to know what your hands on experience is like when you receive it? Thanks for watching though and for the feedback.
Yeah save the extra money and get a steam deck or a little more and do what I did and buy a legion go
That is the next thing i thought is how would it compare to a Windows handheld like the Deck, Ally or Go. I saw rumours of the Lenovo Legion Go Lite? Wonder how that would compare. It would be a little like comparing apples and oranges with the one being so sleek, portable and android based and the other being more bulky and windows based but it would be interesting though. Thanks for watching though, it is much appreciated.
So you never touched either of em
No, unfortunately not. Honestly wish i could dude. Got retrenched from my 9-5 last year and still looking for Work. Channel is too smal to attract reveiw units yet, so financially it is not possible, Get most of my info from top hands on reviewers . I link the hands on review video's in my descripotions, so you can check those out if you want to. Untill i cna afford to buy these what i am trying to do is offer short comprehensive summaries. Combining the findings from multiple reviews with my own research and opinion. Hope that makes sense and that you find some value from it.
Got both but stuck with RP4P just because its so much smaller and can fit in my hoodies easy compared to the 556
That is one of its main benefits and a good reason to use it. Must say the feedback i have been getting on how good the 556 is has swayed me. If i had the scratch to buy it i would get the 556 first,
I was actually debating between these two consoles, I’m new to emulators and stuff, so a huge thanks!🙏
Glad to be of help. It is an interesting comparison is it not. Thanks for watching and keep coming back, If you're new to this there is a whole new world to explore.
Will Definetely keep coming back, great content👍
Awesome, thanks
It depends, the pocket 4 pro is more powerful and portable. The RG556 has better display and feels better in your hands. For the pocket 4 pro you can buy a complement to have a better grip on aliexpress but it would be more price. If you want to play PS2 and GC, the pocket pro is better, if you want older games and a better display then the RG556.
You are quite correct on all those counts, the RP 4 Pro does have a little more power under the hood. but i have to say that Oled Screen and the comfortable ergonomicso f the 556 won me over. I have had so many positive comments in regards to it from users that i am now converted to team 556, lol!
I accidentally swallowed my Miyoo A30; I found it tasted game-y 🥸😆
what is name of the game showing on RG556 IN THE VERDICT PART OF THE VIDEO ?
Hi that's Earthworm Jim 2. It was a classic 2d side scroller about an earthworm that obtains a special suit and has to fight against an evil crow and his minions. Was released on the 16bit Sega Mega Drive and the Super Nintendo console back in the day.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh thanks appreciated 👍
Put a comment, but it disappeared?
Not sure what happened there I did see the "😎✌️" about 15 mins ago. Was there another comment besides that?
got my RG556 3 weeks ago. I love this device. Best damn value for what you getting. really enjoyed setting it up with custom software and daijisho on it. recommend it to everyone.
Nice, thanks for the feedback. It really does look like an awesome device. Would love to own one. Gonna get there😜👍
How do you find the analogue sticks on it? I see a lot of reviewers complaining about their accuracy.
Hi There, sorry for the late reply.Wasn't shure if the comment was directed at Porcelain bowl or to me. Unfortunately i wasn't able to do a hands on comparison but i have seen that quite a few reviewers complain about the ananlog sticks. A solution to this is to mod the unit and install Hall effect analog sticks. They cost about $18 on amazon and there is a guide on Joey's Retro handhelds on how to do it at this link: ua-cam.com/video/vsCSCkLnkPY/v-deo.html
Greetings all, Russ over at Retro Game Corps had a link shared in his video on the Ayn Odin that takes you to a community designed spreadsheet that gives you detailed information on how a myriad of games played on the Odin. Thought i would share this as it could be emmensely helpfull if you are considering buying the Odin and need to see if it will play the games you want to play. It is quite old though so some of the links on it may not be updated and remember that some of the frontend's like emulation station may not work on it if you try the latest version. Not shure if this info was updated on the sheet but at the very least it should give you and idea of what the gameplay on the games are like. Here we go: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zATLq_UshE1Nw6HhHuJvrv6f6xFyK8nHrUdDd6bO7KM/edit#gid=836973255
hi i was just wondering if this device had gba pokémon games like fire red and alpha sapphire, i can’t find a single vid of someone playing pokémon 😭
Hi, the Device plays all GBA games brilliantly from what I have seen so you should definitely be able to play those. Not sure if those games come included on the SD card you can purchase with games on from Anbernic but you should be able to download them. Can't tell you where unfortunately due to legal issues but if you search the internet a bit you should be able to find them.
This video couldn’t have come at a better time I really was ready to spring for the Odin as from my understanding it’s stronger right … but the price of the anbernic + the screen might honestly sway me in that direction. I honestly think the anbernic is strong enough + the screen + the newer version of android is a big deal.
Glad i could help. From what i can see The Odin 1 Processor is roughly just as good as the one on the Rg556 and like i said given the reputation of the Odin 2 and just how good the Odin 1 looks made me think it might be a better option than the 556 aswell. But when i looked deeper into it i realised the older software could become a problem later on. Also i saw the RG556 for $166 on Aliexpress with free shipping to the US. Thats a pretty good deal. Not shure were you live but you can check it out at the following link: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DkwLx99. Just be aware that it may take some time to get to you. The Odin 2 is much better though but it cost minimum $299 and im not shure if that includes shipping.
I have the Trimui Model S and is the smallest and still most comfortable console I own, and is the easiest to carry in my pocket, but it's not able to play much more then 2D games like GBA, Genesis, SNES, NES, and other Game Boy titles, it claims to be able to play PS1, but it's not enjoyable to be honest. And the screen ghosts, the speaker is... ok? I also have the RG353P, which is a more expensive 35xxh right? I also just got the RG556, and that's been amazing <3 I have the RG Nano which is just too small, and the RG 300 (the original) and out of all of them, the post pocket friendly device I have is still the Trimui Model S, I'm debating getting the RG28XX as my everyday pocket carry, but I'd have to see the Model S and RG28XX side by side. My RG353P is a "bag carry" like I'm carrying a backpack for the day, while the RG556 is my "travel carry/home use"
That sounds like quite a collection. I've seen the Model S but haven't really looked into what it can do. Good to hear first hand feedback of it's capabilities and your experience of it. Thanks for sharing. From what I've seen the 28xx should do fine with playstation 1 and even some light N64 and Dreamcast if I remember correctly, so in terms of what you can play it would be an upgrade on the model S. If I'm not mistaken the screen is bigger aswell. It would be an interesting comparison but the best I would be able to do at the moment is a look at what other reviewers are saying. Personally from what I've seen I think the 35xxh would be a better buy like I said in the video. It still seems more than pocketable to me and I think the analog sticks and bigger screen would just be better. How's the battery life on the model S though? From what I have seen the 28xx has amazing battery life especially on the the 2d stuff so that may be a reason to get it aswell?
Do they sell these in stores like "game stop" or similar devices.
Hi, these are mostly sold online as far as I am aware. They are mainly from China . Sites like keepretro.com , mechdiy and litnxt sell them. You will also be able to find them on Amazon although not the latest ones usually and not at the same price as the Chinese online retailers like AliExpress offer. I'm assuming you're from the US? Not 100% shure if any brick and mortar stores sell them there as I'm from South Africa. Maybe someone watching the video can help us out with some inside info please? There are links in the description as well that will take you to the supplier sites that sell these
Unfortunately you will not find these in stores in the US … maybe and it’s a strong maybe you could find something like the Odin at a micro center but even then I’d imagine just the more popular handhelds like steam deck etc. your best bet is ordering online from the brands website 🫶 hope this helps.
Greetings all, there is already a firmware update out for the Rg28xx, You can download version 1.04 at this link if you're interested: win.anbernic.com/download/398.html. If you want a little more detail on the Rg28xx check my overview video on it here: ua-cam.com/video/MsJPbbi9UNA/v-deo.html
A30 for me
Good stuff. It has its benefits for sure. Let me know what you think of it when you get it.
Received it today it’s an awesome little thing and the screen was much better than I anticipated from things I’ve heard. Will check back once a good custom firmware is released. 28xx is still awesome I just like the quality feel with miyoo, I use the RP4 Pro for the more powerful emulators anyway.
Hello, a great comparison video!! I ordered a Trimui Smart Pro without an sd card, which I want to buy myself. Do you know if I have to create folders on the sd card beforehand or does the Trimui do that when I insert the sd card!?
Hi, thanks for the compliment it is much appreciated. You will have to update the unit to the new version 1.04 firmware anyway when you get it so that it runs everything as efficiently as possible. I have a video guide on that here: ua-cam.com/video/-Qt2cWghIiQ/v-deo.html. When you do this you will be copying over the folder structure that the unit needs to run with the updated files in them. Joey over at Joey's Retro handhelds has an extremely in depth setup guide if your still stuck after watching mine that you can view here: ua-cam.com/video/NFMXzy9ZkIk/v-deo.html. Hope that helps, enjoy your Trimui.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Thank you for the detailed answer! If I have installed the update via the sd card, I can then delete the update file from the sd card again!!! The suf the it card come in the end only the odner for the roms or!?
@@OldHardwarenerd I believe you should be able to install the update with the SD card, format it and then copy the file structure that is neccesary for the Storage sd card that holds the ROm, Bios and other folders. It is part of the upgrade process. You have to download 2 update files. One to update the system and one to copy files onto the storage SD Card. Joeys video is quite comprehensive and shows you step by step what to do. I hope this answers your question. Wasn't shure about that last part. Feel free to ask again if this didn;t clear it up.
0:00 What's the music name
Hi Apologies that it took so lobg to reply. The artist is Lexica and the track name is Tiger Tracks. It is a free track that is avaialable on the site i use for editing Canva, You have to get a Pro subscription to have access to it though. Hope that helps.
OLED
Enough said😜
Hands down 556, the OLED is insane for the price and it is super comfortable
I must agree, all the positive comments I've seen on it has really won me over. Also the way the OLED looks on the review video's. The display is just so much more alive and vibrant
It is so tiny, i love the orange coulour. 😅
Yip the Lollipop Orange is definitely something to behold.
Greetings all, I just saw that the there is already a firmware update out for the Rg28xx, You can download version 1.04 at this link if you're interested: win.anbernic.com/download/398.html
For the last 8-9 months the x55 has shipped with an internal eMMC. notime2d8 made an Android image you can install to it. Rocknix now supports the x55.
Great!! Thanks very much 🙂
It's a pleasure 😁
I have both and will say they are each an excellent value for the price. I do think the X55 slightly edges out the Smart Pro though and this is because of 3 things: much better analog sticks, comfortable ergonomic design and superior system UI. The Smart Pro is pocketable, good build quality and the RGB lights are pretty cool. Overall can't go wrong if you can get either of these for around $80.
Sounds awesome! its good to get feedback from someone who actually owns both. I can imagine that the X55 is more comfortable than the Smart Pro. it's almost a Rg556 vs RP4 Pro comparison design and Ergonmics wize isn't it? How does the battery life compare in your experience. Does the Smart pro last a bit longer with the slighlty larger battery?
