Rog Ally X VS Steamdeck Oled: Is handheld console or pc gaming better?
Nice video
Glad you liked it, thanks for watcing
Don't put it in your pocket, Sir. Or it will be mixed with the others and become just a handheld.
Well it is called the 'brick' so probably not a goot idea, lol. But on a more serious note i don't own many yet so i doubt i would neglect it if i had the opputunity to buy one.
Grabbed the 4 pro. More than happy with it.
Nice😁👍
Are you South African?
Yes born and bred😅👍
Why no mention of R36s?
@@mpakdaman i honestly did not even think of that. Probably as it is slightly larger console and i was trying to compare the brick to somethibg the same size. It might be worth lioking into though. Thanks for the suggestion
There is not the same price difference over here in europe . I own both and the brick is far superior Hardwear wise but onion os is a far superior OS for now . Also when you hold both in your hand , the plus feels like a toy, thr brick feels like a big boy device
Sounds awesome. Most of what i saw reviewers say seems to agree with your assesment. Hopefully crossmix can catch up to onion os at some point. A lot of reviewers still sticking to the brick though due to the ambient heat
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh I can't help but think that the developers made the metal plate on purpose to draw heat away from the internal components which to me would suggest that the GPU and CPU are slightly over clocked from their standard capped clock speed . The screen might also contribute to some of that heat build up. The device is a small one so there is not much space for heat dissipation. Could also be the battery placement. Don't mind me though I'm just rambling lol .
@benitezkebab no problem i appreciate the analysis. You may wrll be right about that. I hear though that mechdiy includes a plain backplate with optuonal laser engraving. I thought that would at least make it look though even though it gets a bit warm. 😁👍
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh lol, yes .. dev : You may smell burning flesh but at least your device will look cool 😎 as it roasts your hand. 😎
Lol, gues they wanted to leave an "imprint" on us, lol.
The Brick does get warm, and I’m not sure why. It doesn’t seem to matter what you’re playing. But I’d still choose it over the MiYoo Mini Plus. I enjoy playing on it a lot more. Nice breakdown. 👍
Thanks. The ambient heat on it is a turn of for many who have trued it is seems, but in tgeory i agree. The better visuals nore power and customisable buttons seems to good to pass on
Onion OS wins though. I can switch from ds to ps1 to gba in a matter of seconds with uninterrupted gameplay and auto saves. Prefer that over the brick that overheats
@mugiwara4604 that does sound like a very usefull feature and it is probably ine of the reasons that many reviewers still prefer the mm+. I just like the idea of being able to play more advance systems more smoothly and having that crisp display. That is all in theiry though as i have not had hands on with it. If i actually tired onion os for a week or so i might change my mind. Thanks for watching😁👍
Slightly faster processing 😂😂😂 it is almost twice as powerful
Thinking back on it now it may have been a bit of a understatement lol. Thanks for watching
D Pads people! I don’t know what the hype is all about with the need for dual analog sticks. I guess I’m just from an older generation of handhelds but games that need analog sticks such as PSP really won’t be enjoyable with a screen that these devices have. Anbernic clearly understands that this GBA SP style is best suited for GBA and under. In my opinion they definitely have the superior product.
You have a point there, but i must confess the idea of being able to play PSP on a device like this is enticing. Maybe that is where the hype comes from. I have a Rg40xxV that i got recently and am working on doing a hands on review on and i have to agree that widescreen content is not great on 1:1 screen and i can imagine the same applies to 4:3. Correct me if im wrong here but Mario on the N64 seems to need the stick though and that is not widescreen as far as i know? Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.
If love to see how they do in more demanding games like GTA Vice City, Midnight Club, and GrandTurismo on PSP
Hi there. Found some psp gameplay footage fpor the RG35xx SP at this link: ua-cam.com/video/V_8JsM9L0z0/v-deo.html. They did test GTA Vice City in this video but not Midnight Club or Gran Turismo unfortunately. The have quite a few other demanding games like Tekken 6, Ridge Racer and God of War Chains of Olympus on there so at least it should give you an Idea of how demanding psp games perform on it. There is not a lot of gameply footage for the fliup available as yet but the processor on it is supposedly slightly better than the one on the SP so it should be able to everything the SP does a little smoother. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
The one analog stick makes no damn sense as a design. Thats what kills it for me They put the analog stick right under the only other moving button the d pad how the hell am i suppose to move around and move camera angles or such in games in the same unison time frame without having two analog sticks. No matter how extra features the modern one has if it doesn't have another analog stick to play the games properly I dont want it.
That single analog stick is a problem for many, especially with the likes of first person shooters if you want to stream games to the device. It is more suited to 16 bit era and maybe some N64, PS1 or Dreamcast games that don't use both sticks. Thanks for watching.
Another excellent breakdown. I have to admit, it kind of made me want to check the dmg. Wasn’t really interested before.
Glad i could be of help. The DMG is an amazing handheld. If the price wasn't that high it would be much more popular in my opinion at least. The Rg406V still beats it out in terms of value for money in my opinion. Thanks for watching.
Can I install ARKOS on K36?
Hi there. Did a bit of research and found this Reddit thread where it seems someone has managed to get Arkos Running on the K36. Check it out, hopefully you get some joy and it works for you! www.reddit.com/r/R36S/comments/1hhn15r/arkos_for_k36_and_r36s_clones/
@ Thank you so much👍
in regards to battery, if the miyoo is more efficient with power usage, 300 ma will be like a 20 minit difference if they were equal, also trasparent consoles are only fun if the pcb looks good like the gameboy dmg and gameboy pocket, itherwise it looks stupid.
You got a point on the battery but i felt i had to mention it as it is a clear difference in the specs. I never thought about the way the unit looks under the see through shell, but now that you mention it i think it would look better if the PCb was a bit more interesting. Still like the blue though, for some reason it makes me think of the Neon lights that were so prevalaenti n the 80's. Thanks for watching and for adding your thoughts.
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh yw buddy :D
miyoo is the winner
Msi claw for sure.
0:25 - "please just remember that my comparison are based on comprehensive research from multiple trusted sources rather than direct hands-on experience" Bye.
Sorry to hear that, All the best.
I appreciate the honesty and you telling us in the first minute. I have owned a Powkiddy V90 for years, the Miyoo Flip seems more appealing to me.
@adamkane7513 thanks for the vote of appreciation. Im really thankful to hear that some of my viewers at least get some value from the video's as that is truly what i want to offer as best i can. That and just have an outlet for my enthusiasm for Retro games and tech comparisons lol🫣. From what i can see the flip is defintely much better than the V90 so yoi should enjoy it. Thanks for watching
Russ from retrogame corps says Miyoo flip has Bluetooth (not sure how true) but the stock OS don’t support it. He’s hoping the custom firmware will make it available.
Saw that in a reddit thread aswell after i made the video so it seems there is some thruth in it. Maybe Miyoo will catch on and enable it in a future stock os update as well. A guy can hope right.
Where did you see the flip at 79$ ? I only see it at freaking 180
Saw it advertised for this price on Aliexpress. Link is in the description, but it has a note saying it is no Longer available. Assuming they are out of stock and will hopefully get some units in. Good chance that will ship from china though so it may take longer than Amazon or the likes of Mechdiy. Thanks for watching.
$79 is the retail price - Scalpers are charging $150+
@@Harvard_Fairway Didn't know but i can believe that there are people who want to take advantgae of the current problem with supply and demand. Miyoo took so long to release this unit. One would think they would have prepared better to avoid this as it happened with the miyoo mini as well if im not mistaken.
Miyoo official store is $79 the rest you see being tripled are scalped
Price is definitely 80
Now we just need to wait few year to have calmshell device with 2 screen (one touchscreen) so we can perfectly emulate DS and 3DS :) ANd this will be THE one. While waiting, those 2 are the one, got an RG35XX SP, and the flip with those stick could be a replacement for me, especially for N64 / psp / dreamcast emulation Thx for the video, i will wait good CFW like Knulli or MuOS for the flipp PS : Flip is a little bit more powerfull than the RG35XX SP, PSP is almost unplayable on the RG35XX SP, , on the flip, it is playable
Now that would be something wouldn't it. WOuld also love to see a dualscreen unit like that. From what i've seen the flip does seem slightly more capable at emulation than the SP so that it has me itching to get one aswell but the price is a bit stiff. Thanks for watching,
why not just buy a used 2ds and a flash card?
Ally X all the way😊
Bruh. Can't see the details of the brick cuz of the "shorts" info at the bottom. Can't compare cuz the details aren't lined up. Your statistics teacher would be furious. Then you compare different games side by side. I'm not trying to be mean but this whole clip is useless.
Howsit man. I see your point in terms of the specs being too low and then covered b the shorts info. Will make an effort to change that in future. it's tough to put the specs next to each other though as the text has to be too small to fit that way
Intel💪
The Claw is impressive, Ill definitively give you that.
What is the name of the first game that appears on rg40xx?
Hi There. The first game that is only a static image on the title screen is Star wars Rogue Squadron for the N64, On the second screen is Mechwarrior 3050 for the SNES. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
The RGB10Max3 has a 5inch screen not 4inch
You Are right. My bad. Seems i missed that when creating the short Thanks for pointing it out
What's the name of the dragon ball z game? At 3 30 minutes
Its called Dragon Ball Advance Adventure for the Gameboy Advance. Thanks for watching
Yeah I hear things like "odin 2 can play gran turismo at 7x" and I just go "why?" no need for it on small screens. 2-2.5x is all you need especially on a superior screen :)
You raise a valid point, you are probably not going to notice the difference beyond 2-2.5x upscale on such a small screen. Whats interesting to me though from what i understand is that it does indicate that the processor can handle much more and that means that the unit is slightly more future proof. Feel free to correct me if im wrong here, just like the idea that it might be able to handle PS3 emulation if that ever makes it's way to android. Thanks for watching and for adding your thoughts
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh That is true. I tend to discount xbox, xbox 360, and ps3 emulation since they just aren't quite there yet. I also don't tend to worry as much about switch performance since I can just play those games on switch and hopefully soon I'll play those games on the switch 2. For me the performance, size and price combo all put the retroid 5 on top. If I want big chonky ergonomic emulation I have the steam deck for now. So many options, it's a good time to be alive if you're a retro gamer.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Oh the rp5 screen too! It really is a fantastic screen. I could buy an odin 2 or I could buy another RP5 so I have a black one and a Gamecube themed one haha. I really have circled around the odin 2 for a long time. The cold grey model is so tempting, SNES is a favorite of mine for sure.
@@TalonVI Sounds like you have quite a collection. Always good to get feedback from someone with a first hand perspective. The retrorid poocket 5 is a very tempting option ill give you that. I am also excited about where retro gaming is at and what we will be seeing in 2025.😁👍
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Like many of the retro handheld channels I really got in on it around the RG351P and been building my collection since. I have a huge pile of handhelds in cases behind me. Some even duplicates in different colorways. should giveaway or sell some lol. The one I don't have is the Odin 2 which is kind of crazy since it's king to many. Like I said I have a steam deck which is an amazing handheld but it's too big for anything more than couch gaming. So for me I was just about to get an Odin 2 Pro but then the RP5 showed up. It can do 90% of what the Odin can do but is more portable, has a better screen (one of the best) and is $150 cheaper. It was kind of a no brainer. So many mention PS2 and Gamecube performance on it but honestly it can do well with wii too. Wii U emulation on android is coming along nicely too. The Odin 2 can brute force performance so like you said is more future proof. I'm hopeful that we'll see lots of improvements just from the emulators themselves as they improve because I feel that is what is mostly holding us back right now. Sorry for the paragraph just retro gaming is a huge special interest for me. People really shouldn't get me started lol.
Maybe the biggest oversimplification ever. You forget the 120hz display on the x and the processor is not just slightly faster it’s a lot faster. It also runs a ton of games the steamdeck won’t/cant
You got a point there. went and looked at the benchmarks out there again and i probably understated how much more powerfull the CPU is. With the videos i make i can't include a definitve breakdown as i try to keep them short so that is why i did not mention the higher refesh rate screen, but ill keep that in mind. Part of the foucs point of the video was to discuss whether windows or Linux would be better on a handheld so that is another reson that is not included. At the end of the day i agree though i would personally prefer the Ally X or even the OG Ally over a deck if i had the cash and had to choose. Thansk for watching
@ appreciate the reply. I’m coming from an Oled deck to an ally x and the x is definitely not as user friendly to much longer to setup but it runs almost everything.
@@danolivet8346 Its a pleasure. Interesting, thanks for the feedback. it is always good to hear from someone who has had actual handson experience.😁👍
И кто победил
Лично для меня короткая версия Trimui Smart Pro лучше, но у Rg40xxH есть некоторые привлекательные особенности. Посмотрите полный обзор для более подробной информации, если вы хотите...
I chose X55 for comfort of use as I personally don't care about pocketebl and taking it outside of the house , but someone with different lifestyle may choose the TrimUI for taking ours, I aslo prefer bigger screen and better performance even if it slight, thanks for the video
It is a pleasure. i was also very torn between the 2. I looked at the Trimui Smart Pro compared to the Powkiddy RGB10Max3 in another video and had the same problem. I am a fan of the Trimui Smart Pro but the fact that the RGB10Max 4 has ergonomic grips and video out made me feel it might be the better option. I think the trimui Smart Pro has more community support in terms of custom firmware though and as you said it is more pocketable so that may appeal to some. Thanks for wathcing.
Have you seen either of these handhelds in person?
Greetings no i unfortunately have not seen them. All my info is based of off research and the findings of some of the top hands on reviewers on youtube. So my video's are basically summary overviews of their findings combined with my research and opinion. Would love to do hands on with these one day. Recently received a RGCubexx as a gift so im working on doing a live hands on review of that and saving up to buy some more of these in future. In the meantime i just want to be part of the conversation around these and i also love comparing tech so i've chosen to do videos in this format. I realize it will not be everyone's cup of tea and thats ok. Thanks for watchingf though.
I went for the RG40, due to Wifi, since it supports Moonlight streaming. It was 80 Euro though, the 60 Euro is for the basic version without any games.
I have realised of late aswell how big a difference wifi capability can make on these. The Rg40xx is also has a larger screen and look more awesome aesthetically. Hope you have a good time with it. Thanks for watching aswell
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fhafter some thinking I bought also the R36s for my son and it was only 26Euros for the 128GB version off AliExpress. The OS of the R36s looks just awesome and does not need as much tinkering as the RG40, so serves better for kids. I was thinking also about the RG406V, it is a brute in specs, but the design is bulky and somehow reminds me of my old tetris 😂 I would not want to pull that out anywhere. The fact that it runs PS2 games did not pursuade me enough. For me that's not the category of "retro" I am looking for.
@@gergy81 the R36S is a good starting option for kids, especially considering the price.I get what you mean in regards to the RG406V it would definitely attract some attention if you had to pull it out in public and play on it. I never owned a playstiatiomn 2 though so i must say i am enjoying discovering all the games that was released on it through emultaion. Same goes for dreamcas but the NES and Old Sega Genesis does feel more ""Retro". What was some of your favourite Retro games?
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh I would say Golden Axe and Commander Keen, Blues Brothers or Jazz Jackrabbit. We played mostly on PC, in DOS, on our 386 or 486. I had also a Sega Gen2 chinese knock-off (we are talking about early/mid 90s Hungary :)) and I remember I had a cartridge game which looked nice, it was some sort of dark fantasy platformer, but since the whole things was in chinese, I had no chance to find anything about it.
i ordered a k36 from tiktok shop. im really excited for it to arrive!
Awesome Lemme know wheat you think of it when you get it. Thanks for watching.
Honestly, the only think i care is the chipset, plus, SD 8 Gen 2 is far superior than SD 865 the price is also not that high
Performance can be a major factor when deciding between these and the newer Sd8 Gen 2 is definitely more future proof than the 865 as there isn't really any emulation or games (except maybe windows emulation) that could max it out. Really wanna get myself a Ayn Odin 2 ome day.
Apologies all, I see i have the wrong device in the intro section at around 00:07🙈. Was under a bit of presure when editing. My Bad. The rest of the video is still a acurate comparison that compares the Miyoo Mini and the Trimui Brick.
4:20 why does the odin gameplay and screen look so bad here? The rp5 looks 1080p and the odin looks like irs at 240p or something. I know the rp5 had oled but cmon
Hi There. I apologize for the poor quality gameplay video in that section but it is a side effect of the editing process. I don't own one of these yet so i edit in the gameplay footage and at times the quality can suffer. Will make an effort to get it looking better next time around. Thanks for watching.
@ oh okay i thought it was just the quality of the odin. Thanks for responding.
i can't for the life of me find out how to change the date on this device, it is affecting my old pokemon save
Hi There i did some research and it seems that there is no otion to change the time. It might update automatically when connected to wifi depending on the version of ArkOS on it. There are 2 possible solutions. To update via wifi you will need a wifi dongle and a USB C to A adapter. You can checkout how to setup on Joey's Retro Handhelds. He has a good guide on how to do this at this link: ua-cam.com/video/Ha5C_O8W3zg/v-deo.html or you can follow the following guide at this link: github.com/Rolen47/ChangeTime to install a script that was designed for the RG351 that apparently works with making the time updateable (can't guarantee it will work but it is the only other option i could find), just a note you need to have protmaster installed for it to work and it only works with the mGBA core.
Lol clearly you don’t have a rg40xxv so you’re comparison is worth nothing.
Never claimed to have one, but i do enjoy doing these as i love retro handhelds and i like analysing and comparing devices. Realise these video's are not for everyone, so if you didn't like it thats ok. Thanks for watching.
Odin 2 is still the king of android Emulation.
It is an awesome handheld which offers amazing value for the price
Which is beeter for you
Personally i think it would go with the 40xx V in this conparison for the slightly larger screen and the Analog stick for those games that need it
As nice as the Brick is, I think I'm going to stick with my Miyoo Mini Plus. I can see why some people would prefer the more modern, arguably more mature look of the Brick. However, I love that my Miyoo Mini looks like something Nintendo might have made, like a SNES GameBoy. (I have the gray one with the black and purple buttons.) This brings me joy. Still, I'm curious about the Brick and I might buy one some day.
Awesome. If you're happy with the MM+ stick with it. I haven't really gone into detail of how these 2 compare but a few people have been asking so i should do a video on it soon. will be able to say more then but as far as i know the MM+ does most of what the brick can do and if you add that nostalgia factor i can see why you would be happy with it. Thanks for watching.
I have the Miyoo mini in that same color and I love it. I take it with me everywhere. But… I just couldn’t resist ordering a brick. It’s beautiful. So my plan is to use my mini for old 2D rpgs like final fantasy vi and earthbound while using the brick for the newer 3D consoles. When i placed the order for the brick I felt a little bad. Like it was going to hurt the minis feelings lol
I ordered mine Yesterday. Thought it was the R36s but it's the R40S Pro. Is there a big difference?
There may be but it depends on the manufacturer. Some reviewers found that the R40S was basically an R36S, they just changed the model nr and the casing slighlty. Can't say for sure this is the case with yours though , would have to be able to look at the physical unit and maybe open it up before i could confirm .Thanks for watching though.
Have you seen either of these in person?
Hi Unfortunately not. My information is based of of the findings of some of the top hands on reviewers. I leave links to their video's in my descritpion so you can check out them out for more detail. I would love to do hands on reviews of these but just can't afford it at this stage. Gonn aget there someday. Thanks for watching though.
I just saw you video and your country, where can we get these retro hand helds in RSA?
Thanks for watching. I found the RG35xxSP listed on Wootware as becoming available on 2 Jan 2025 ( hopefully that is not just clickbait). Please see the end of this comment for a link. Alternatively you will have to order from the likes of Mechdiy.com or Litnxt.com online. They are quite expensive but ship worldwide. Hope this helps. @@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Thanks , and merry xmas to you too. Hope to see more of your retro hand held videos.
Why not compare it to the Miyoo Mini Plus? And the link you posted has the Brick at twice the price you mention
Hi There, I already compared it to a larger handheld called the Anbernic RG40XXv so in this comparison i wanted to compare it to something that was closer to it in physical size. I also think there are a few people who are not sure which one to go for when comparing these 2 and i wanted to shed some light on that question and help people decide. There are 2 links in the description one from LITNXT who are an American site. They are more expensive but they are closer to American customers and shipping and retruns are easier with them. The other link is for a Chinese site called Aliexpress. They are super cheap but sometimes (not always) they shi[p out of China so shipping and return can be more of a challenge. Here is the link for the Trimui brick at roughly $53 at the time of posting with shipping to the US included (this may change though so can't guarantee it will stay at that price forever): s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_omDSklV Thanks for watching.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh the Mini Plus is actually a lot closer for a comparison to the Brick in terms of overall size, they are practically almost the same height and thickness, just the Brick has a 4:3 screen so that makes it not as wide as the Mini Plus. the OG Miyoo Mini is absolutely tiny in contrast to both of these, mostly because the Miyoo Mini has just absolutely ZERO excess plastic as leverage to hold it (around the control buttons and below them) also the Mini Plus unlike the OG Mini, actually has built in Wifi so you can use retro achievements and manage your storage via FTP without having to take the SD card out of it. price wise the Mini Plus is still actually just about more or less the same price as the OG Mini so 15-20$ less than the Brick. the only real issue with the Miyoo Mini and Mini Plus is that their PS1 3D game performance is kinda lackluster in many titles. Onion OS does help, but still Tekken 3 does not feel as fluid is it does when you play it on the Brick even though the Mini / Mini Plus technically also do run it at 100% speed. it makes me wonder if the Mini's display is 60Hz or if it is actually 30Hz or 50Hz because most games that you would think should run smoothly at 100% speed do feel a little bit choppy on the Miyoo Mini, less so on the Mini Plus i guess using that old Blackberry 2.8" display in the Mini does have its drawbacks?
Where can we in RSA get these? As I have looked everywhere but only some models are found on BOB shop and takealot.
@giks1321 For these specific ones, i have also gathered that they are not easy to find locally. It seems as if some shops on Alieexpress will ship to us but online shops like mechdiy and litnxt definitely ship wordwide. They are a bit more expensive and you may have to pay custom duties though. If you find a local seller please share and i will do the same. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh I'm sorry, but the Miyoo Mini Plus IS the one that is closer to the TrimUI Brick in physical size, being only a few millimeters difference. The Miyoo Mini reviewed in this video is considerably smaller. Most people trying to make a decision between similar handhelds are looking to compare the Brick with the MM+.

It sounds awesome dude. Between those 2 devices there shouldn't be anythinmg mobile or emulation wize that you can't play. Seriously want a Odin 2 Pro one day. Thanks for watching and sharing your setup.
@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh Indeed...🤓😎
At $60 range, the anbernic RG 40XXV is a no brainer... They need to replace those sticks, but overall anbernic is the best option on the market in the $50-$80 and $150-$180 segment.
It is a good deal for the kind of handheld they offer. I am a Trimui Fan but if i had to choose in this comparison i would choose the V for that larger screen mostly. Thanks for watching
I'd buy the RG40XX V so fast if the analog stick was like the ones in the 406V/H. I'm sure they will release more consoles on the XX series with this new stick tho, so I'll wait :)
I know there was a software fix for the Analog sticks on the MuOs Bannas custom firmware but it would require installing a completely new OS. They have released so many xx handhelds i cannot imagine how they would do more but they keep suprising me in that regard so it seems your hope is not completely unfounded. It would be cool to get a horisontal or vertical xx version with better sticks though. Thanks for watching.
@@TheTechUpdate-ui1fh "i cannot imagine how they would do more" don't underestimate them xD Also, I know about the software fix but I think that only fixes cardinal snapping. It's still not as precise, comfortable and durable as their new hall effect sticks. If I had to bet, I think they will release at least a couple more XX devices next year, with these new sticks... and people will buy them! (and I don't blame them).
