For discs I recommend using water and hand soap, just make sure you dry it really really well with something soft so you don’t break your console

I kinda want nintendo to hold off on too many more remakes until they unveil/release the next console, unless they will make a bunch of Switch games available on the next console too. I could see a huge selling point for upgrading to the new consoles being that companies are remaking, remastering, or just porting old games to new hardware

I love paper mario and I fully understand and agree with everyone who wants future installments to be like the original 2. What I don't understand is how so many people prefer TTYD over the original Paper Mario.

Who told you that playing burnt games would be better on the GDrom? If anything, doing that is what prematurely killed many of those drives over the years as it has to work harder to read the discs. In any event, you realllly should replace that power supply with an aftermarket one if you're running a gdemu. Other comments have already touched on the why for this. I'm using a DreamPSU but there are several reputable ones on the market to choose from. I splurged on mine and got the version with an integrated Bluetooth module on board. The guy making them also offers something called the DreamCon where he retrofits OEM controllers with bluetooth capability and a rechargeable battery, for a premium. There's two varieties on offer, the basic one with a dongle you plug into the controller port, or the version I got that requires the upgraded DreamPSU with BT built in. He also offers DreamPSU without that feature, it really just depends on how you want to do it and if you want to spend the extra cash. Just be aware that you have to supply your own controller now if you choose to go that route, as whatever supply of new old stock he had dried up. When I commissioned mine I had him source me a translucent grey controller to match the new shell I'm using, cost extra though. Oh yeah, almost forgot. Every DreamCon conversion also has a built-in VMU chip, so you don't physically need a VMU if you don't have one. Pretty neat. He also offers the DreamVMU where he adds a backlight and rechargeable battery. As far as games, well I'm going to go off of what I see in the video series. If you like fighting games such as MvC2, then Capcom vs SNK is a no brainer along with Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolf and Street Fighter Alpha 3. If you like racing games, my personal favorite on the console is the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series. It's a bit different than normal racing games though, you're doing highway pulls. The gist of it is you have to get in front of your opponent and put distance between the two of you to win. It's actually based in the real life sub culture from the 80s & 90s, people still kind of do it today but not to the same degree. Look up the Mid Night Club for a wild ride into a bygone era. Metropolis Street Racer and Sega GT are good choices if you want something more sim like, akin to Gran Turismo or Forza. I already covered Soul Caliber and Dead or Alive 2 in the last video, but I'll just briefly mention them again. RE Code Veronica is a great survival horror game, and the first Resident Evil to ditch the prerendered backgrounds in favor of 3d environments. You can also grab a port of Resident Evil 3 at least, maybe RE2 as well I can't recall. Speaking of ports, there's a few ps1 ports available that run way better on DC. Off the top of my head the only other ones I can remember is Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 I think. A word of advice: do not go down the rabbit hole of a US Saturn. You will regret it unless you plan on getting an optical drive emulator for that system too. The prices for good US games are well above the Dreamcast's highest priced titles. If you really want a Saturn, get a JP unit. The games are far cheaper, and there's a lot of them that are perfectly playable either partially in English or otherwise.

As a Nintendo boy growing up, the DC was my first Sega console I was pumped for from the jump and I was there at launch day when it was finally, and half heartedly, released in Australia.

Everything after TTYD is just subpar. I actually dropped those and went back to play the handheld Mario and Luigi games.

I bought this game on launch day and still agree that it's severely over priced even before I bought it tbh. $60 is quite a bit of money and for a 10 year old 3DS game with barely any touch ups makes it a hard sell, especially compared to nearly every other remaster or port Nintendo has done. But I mean I still love the game even despite it's flaws and plus it let's me play ScareScraper again so I had to buy it (and to finally beat that stupid ice boss after never getting past it when I was younger) but I don't blame people who think it's not worth it and lazy (because it is), but in my opinion it's still quite a fun time and people who haven't played the og game ever or in a while should pick it up (when it gets a price drop of course)

I love Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, the HD version was honestly something to be expected if Nintendo would discontinue online for 3ds and wii u. That said, I think the game itself is fine, they didn't do much sure, but also didn't ruin it either. The visuals are fine, except that some of Luigi's expressions (mostly in the cutscenes) just look unnatural to me. Specifically the eyebrows, idk why but it's disturbing when they move around

tbh i bought a switch just to play this. i remember watching zackscotts og playthrough and that made me love the game i knew i was not gonna miss out on this chance of playing it. i also ended up buying mario 3d world and bowsers fury which is another game that i used to love when i had my wii u. amazing video

Ah yes, one of my favorite games of all time. The (almost) 600 hours I spent on this game was totally time well spent.

I do think there are a few things that are not good for the remake, but else its good, one bad thing:the jump that you could do endless is harder, instead of the timing being:8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 its 8,6,4,1,4,4,1 like, wtf

I feel like if you grow up with a certain game, you’re able to kind of ignore what’s bad with it because it was like the default for you. But when you play games later in life, you compare them to an idolized version of the games you grew up with. Like I’m pretty young so I grew up with sticker star, but since I grew up with it, I just kind of ignore all the bad things about the game so when I think of sticker star now it seems like a pretty good game because everything bad with it just felt normal. I played through the switch port of the original paper, Mario, and it just kind of felt boring.

I agree with a lot these points, i made a review myself on this game and it alines pretty much with what you said. This game is incredible but 80$ (CAD) is just way too much of a price to pay for an upscaled port pretty much

You don't even have to tell me your age, I can tell you're a youngin just by the fact you were surprised that Sega made hardware and didn't realize that Sonic was their exclusive mascot... ugh. This is why studying history is important kids. It gets worse as I keep watching, but it's kind of fascinating to hear the perspective of a teen or early twenty something. Uh, $150? Market value's like $100ish these days. Not only did that shaft you with a dirty defective 3rd party controller, but they clearly didn't refurbish the console. I probably wouldn't spend my money at that retro game store moving forward if I were you. You paid way too much for what you got. Too bad you didn't jump on the wagon about 10-15 years ago, shit even 5 years ago, before the prices went out of control. I've got about two dozen of them that I was picking up for like $10-15 each. They were still going for like $25-50 in retro game stores back in 2019 for what it's worth. The game prices are just about as bad as Gamecube these days too. Thankfully I pieced together about 40 bangers over the years for my physical collection. You keep bringing up the price of MvC2, I thought I paid too much at $25 for a copy at a game store... I can't give you much in the way of game reccs if I don't know what you're into, but if you're into fighters I can tell ya most 2d ones are gonna be outside of your price range. Maybe start with 3d first like Soul Caliber or Dead or Alive 2, those are still pretty cheap. And you really can't go wrong with Jet Grind Radio. A few years ago I built my Ultimate Dreamcast out of my original DC unit from back in high school in the early 00s. The GD rom finally bit the dust, and I decided to go all in on that one. The only original components left in it are the Naomi motherboard and the controller board, albeit that has the battery mod done to it. It's got a PSU, fan, case, GDemu, Hdmi, broadband adapter, and on top of that I have a bluetooth controller solution with a retrofitted original controller, and a backlit VMU. All told it was probably about $1250 in 2020/21 bucks, no regrets. Lastly, a word of advice: NEVER unplug your controller from the console while it's on.

I think what happened to Nintendo with Paper Mario was that Thousand Year Door released in the Gamecube era. And at the time, the anti-Nintendo propaganda in the industry & media was SUFFOCATING. Gamecube got left in the dust saleswise & only appealed to the most core Nintendo fans like me (still got my Gamecube!). Nintendo's attitude to seemingly everything released in that era was "It wasn't good enough to breakthrough so let's change". Wiis & DS's success showed them that changing things up improved sales which is why Super Paper Mario started moving away from its core RPG roots. It was still good but it led to changes seen in Sitcker Star through The Origami King. Nintendo put their best efforts into those Gamecube games & the audience at the time largely ignored them. So Nintendo thought they did something wrong. It's the same thing that happened to Star Fox & F-Zero. But there was never nothing wrong with those Gamecube games & the anti-Nintendo propaganda has faded now. So Nintendo is finally rethinking their attitudes towards that Gamecube-era game design which seems to be beloved now. That's why they put out that Paper Mario survey asking the fans for answers which they don't do often. Good games caught up in bad times. And it made Nintendo second-guess how they did things...even to a fault.

Ive beat the first 3 games and love. I still liked TOK though. I understand why people why people don’t love it but I don’t think it deserves the HATE

Yeah you probably put it best out of anyone online. It is literally just a polished version of the 3ds one with no quality of life or additions. Not that the 3ds version or even the other games didnt have their flaws. If you played the 3ds one and found it ok, its probably not worth buying HD. there just isnt enough different or added. For those who never had a 3ds or missed out on the online now that NN is dead, LM2HD could be worth it. You at least get better performance, graphics and a working online, with a large screen too For this to have been the perfect remaster, your ideas would have worked, maybe aswell as a jukebox, art gallery, extra minigames, or thr big one - why not port the first game with it?
