What do you do to keep your drums fun to play? For me I'm learning more about production and how to actually make digital drums sound real and interesting. Playing with a delay or echo effect is a great way to challenge your timing and to kind of play ping pong with yourself in a way, where the rhythm you just played becomes the sound you are about to play against. I made this drum kit as part ...
how to play MELODY inside your DRUM SOLO

This solo is part of a series I played all in one sitting where I sat down on the drums with no idea what I was about to do and let things flow. From moment to moment, everything is just acting and reacting, creating phrases and melodies and repetitions and dynamics on the fly it takes a lot of concentration, especially as there's no external stimulus to bounce off. In my opinion, it's much sim...

What happens when you play 40 hours of drums in a week

I'm not convinced anyone reads this bit on UA-cam any more. So given that there's no audience for this, I'm just gonna write some stuff, like an informal note to self kind of thing. First of all, are AI going to take all the drumming jobs? That's a big concern in 2023 I think. What if an AI perfects the paradiddlediddle? Or the ratamacue? Dark days. Secondly, editing your own face for hours on ...

You are true inspiration to me👌🙏
Thank you very much. Love the octapad, now even more. Please make more videos like this.
Can more than one Fx used in a single kit ? Like in 20 pro MultiFX ?
If any soundtrack is underrated, it's the one for this game. The textures and rhythms are just so damn interesting. I love how it can be grimy and unsettling, but also catchy and energetic. People who write it off as noise aren't listening to it actively, so they don't catch the details that really make this music great. Also, this IS my favorite SoR game! I love how much tighter and aggressive the gameplay feels. Love your covers. I was hoping for some Dub Slash
The Final Product is here! unit7noise.bandcamp.com/album/bgf It's very experimental and wild, so if you like it be sure to buy a copy and help us out. Hope you enjoy!
pleas if you know how loade wav file or any mode by usb i maked some beats.
Dude those Heel toe doubles are really nice Advanced metal playing right there Are you planning on making a tutorial on that technique some time?
Yes! I'm just about to reboot my channel, and the first thing I'm doing is a massive kick drum training program! My feet have developed a lot from this video and I will share all my knowledge very soon
@@limitlessdrums2680 awesome! looking forward!
I have kind of a noob question: is it possible to also transfer this pack to another Pad like the SPD SX Pro?
Hi, no I'm afraid not. The SX has a different library of sounds. This is Octapad-only goodness!
@@limitlessdrums2680 thanks for the info! your configurations sound really nice tho :)
sounds so good and i love that voice modulation
Oh thanks! I had fun messing with the voice :D

Thanks for this! After owning an Octapad almost from inception (and been vaguely aware of its editing and live loop/phrase powers) I'm just now starting to dive in a little deeper. Your videos are very helpful. I am considering your kits upgrade once I've figured out how to save my few custom kits and back up my system etc... Cheers!
Excellent! I wrote a bit of a guide to the Octapad that comes with the upgrade, I can send you a copy if you want? Just email me at limitlessdrums@gmail.com
wait no dreamer and no underlogic ?
Both great tracks but I played similar beats in the SOR1 covers Are you a fan of the SOR3 soundtrack? I had fun playing those
@@limitlessdrums2680 just love all the three Sor , i used have a Sega Mega Drive on my childhood. And all the 3 sor cartriges.
Holy molly
👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks! I did SoR2 and SoR3 as well if you like those soundtracks. I did them with a bit more style as well :D
hi, amazing work. i wanted to implement the octapad in my sest. like jolie and assia. they have something different tough i am not sure what. probalby a ableton rack with their sounds. the pad one was going with kick and hats at the same time. could you give a hand on this? how can i connect the midi and my sounds with not too much lag?
Hi, nice demonstration! You are left handed, right? I'm left handed too, but all the kits come for right handed... is there a quick way to change them all for left handed people? Or yo had to change pad by pad in every kit manually?? Thank you!!!
Hi, I play both left and right handed. Are you asking about the standard kits or the ones I made for the Octapad Upgrade pack? Mine are a mix of left and right handed (and footed!), but if you want to change anything you will need to copy and paste things around, yes I don't believe the Octapad has any kind of left-handed setting unfortunately. I hope it's not too annoying to move things about!
@@limitlessdrums2680 Hi, thank you very much for your answer. Yes, I was asking for the standard kits that come with the octapad. Well, I guess I will have to change them one by one I guess. Thank you again!
Wonderful!
Incredible!
Are these different samples, or just the same samples edited differently/ better?
Hi, you cannot add new samples to the Octapad but you can dive deep into the editing process to transform the sounds.
Can I load and use Wave samples with it? I couldnt figure it out :(
Hey, no the Octapad is not a sampler. It's more like the drum equivalent to a synth. There are hundreds of sounds, and they can all be modified - but you can't add anything new. Of course it can be used as a MIDI instrument to trigger other software -- but generally if you buy the Octapad it's because you like the Roland sound. I believe my Upgrade pack gets the full potential out of it, but it's all done by editing the sounds that are already there. Hope that helps.
Once you have played SoR3 its difficult to play the others SoRs because while maybe being better in some regards their game mechanic is kinda shit compared to SoR3. Also SoR3 would have been a better much experience if it wasnt for the ridiculous western release which was just way too difficult. Too bad really. That game was ruined for no good reason.
Well, I consider SOR 3 to be on par with SOR 2 or just slightly, (and I stress slightly) just behind the behemoth SOR 2. Bare Knuckle III which was uncensored was superior to the American release. But my main issue with SOR 3 isn't even the music which I actually loved. It's the simple fact that it wasn't as new of an experience as SOR 2 was. SOR 2 was a quantum leap over the original with just about everything improved. While SOR 3's play mechanics are superior to SOR 2, I felt like the colors weren't as vibrant and it recycled the last boss hideout again with very few changes. Regardless, SOR 3 with it's futuristic soundtrack remains in my top 10 as a triumph to the mega drive.
Thanks for putting the time in to do this work. It’s like a whole new life has taken over my octapad.
Oh amazing, i'm so glad you're enjoying it!
Can I apply more than one single fx to a single pad ? Let’s say I’d like to add reverb and phaser only to a snare…. I just can’t figure out how
SadlY no. This is the biggest flaw with the Octapad in my opinion. If you want to to use more than one FX on any kit, you will need to run the Octapad through an FX pedal or a computer with a DAW. My Upgrade contains what I think are the best FX settings you can make across the 99 new kits - check it out if you are curious. Hope this helps.
You ever hopked this up with a roland snare pad?
yep, it works fine with any external pads. just be aware that dual zone won't work as the Octapad inputs are single-trigger
very nice
SoR3 is actually my favorite SoR game. Also this cover is great 👍
Kan you make kits/custompresets/banks with midi notes to each pad? Like for example if I have a vst on my computer that uses notes c1 to g1 can I then program it to the pads, and make a second kit where I program c2 to g2 to the pads and instantly switch between the banks with the different midi notes? This comes in handy if you for example have a vst plugin where you have midi notes from c1 to g1 and program that to the pads and then another different vst that has c2 to g2 as notes and program those to the pads, and then if you have another vst that uses notes c3 to g3 and program that to another bank and instantly switch between them if you need to switch between the vsts without reprogramming the midi notes. Is it possible.
Oh interesting question! Hmmm I believe that MIDI notes are set on a system wide level and not kit-specific. But i'll take a look and let you know!
@@limitlessdrums2680 thank you
1 more question sir. If I use another brand of kick tower and hi hat controller for spd30, it will fit? Or only roland products can fit for spd30? Thanks a lot😊
For the kick drum you can use any electric drum that has a trigger. Any other kick drum or even a drum pad will work. For the hihat controller, you will need to look up Roland's official compatibility list as the open/close feature makes it unique. Good luck!
@@limitlessdrums2680 a big thanks to you my brother! Thanks for generosity for sharing your idea. God bless you more
fwiw - I have had success using an Alesis kick pad and drum and cymbal pads as external triggers (sensitivity adjustments required). Sadly, the Alesis HiHat controller doesn't work. However, Roland FD8s can be found in the used market at very reasonable prices (i.e. $60 CAD). (BTW with older FD8s, sometimes the internal rubber trigger hardens with age and ruins the sensitivity - but a replacement part is available and easily installed - see youtube videos for this step by step process.) ✌🏼
May i know what exact specification of drum pad stand you are using? Coz i want to buy but I don't know what exact details of stand i will purchase. Thank you sir.
Hey, I use the Roland PDS-20 Percussion Pad stand. I believe there are cheaper alternatives, just make sure it has the right mounting plate.
What foot pedal triggers are you using?
I use KT-10 kick drum pedals and the FD-9 hi-hat pedal. Highly recommend both!
Thank you!
Cool video, very helpful
how to compare this to what is out there today in mid-2023? and what do you think go the Nord Drum 3P in comparison to this? What happened on the market since you first reviewed this? thanks for sharing and hope their back form you when possible!
hey, I wish I had played a Nord Drum 3P but I don't have experience with that one yet! I think the main difference between the Octapad and similar devices is that here you only get the classic Roland sounds to play with. Since the Octapad first found success, there are many similar products that either work as samplers or have their own built in sounds (like Nord), so it really depends on how you like the Roland sounds. Also Roland build quality is known to be the best in the electronic drum market, and I can attest to that! I've played my Octapad for thousands of hours at this point and it still performs perfectly. Hope that answers your question :)
thanks, just found a store that had all of them.. hmm, they were all really cool to play on I have to say... the pads however are really different.. the octapad is the softest with less rebound, the Nord drum is the slimmest with a snappy rebound of your stick, and the Roland Pro, tjeh new one got the best feel closer to a drum, but stil more rubber softy compared to the V drums.. but V drums only har full kits and I did not find that they have made a mesh Drum Machine... that would definitely be the best choice as the mesh of the V drums are amazing for real feel and re-bounce really on a different level than all of the bad drums... I really cannot say what to choose, the Nord Drum only got 6 pads and if one ad a kick pedal it takes away one pad, not a smart move by Clavia brand to do so... Hope there comes more ones this year... thanks for getting back!@@limitlessdrums2680
So nice! Thanks for create and share. Dude I have one question, which album inspired by Nerve and Jojo Mayer? There are so many in the link you put in the description. I really would like to listen it.
Awesome, so glad you enjoyed it! Here are the tracks I used for inspiration, and they're all from different Nerve albums. 2 x drum ‘n’ bass / jungle tracks in style of Jabon / Tetrastigm 1 x 6/8 in the style of To Listen Is To Love 1 x house track in the style of Flood / Hafiz / Weekday Vampire 1 x swing funk in the style of 7even / Loot 1 x syncopated / time displacement track in the style of Exigency / Blacktip Reef Shark 1 x chill out in the style of Pleasure Control / Analog Native
@@limitlessdrums2680 So nice, thaks so much for answer. I have to learn to make better questions because my intention was to know which is the final product you made. I mean, where I can listen the album you made. Because in the link you provide to bandcamp, there are so many albums and my men, I like what you did but I want to listen first the Jojo Mayer Nerve inspired album. Thanks so much in advance.
@@tresvecesno7071 oh haha thanks man, sorry I misunderstood your question! The album is being worked on at the moment as the drums were the very first layer -- when it's ready and released I will hopefully remember to reply to you again and let you know. Thanks for your interest, it means a lot!

Millennium MPS-850?
It's a Roland TD-30 modified with a few extra bits and pieces. I've never tried a Millenium kit, are they decent?
Some really tight drumming right there, nice!!
Appreciate you, cheers!
I do this every week practice 2 hours a day practice with band and teaching close to 40 hours a week. Good finger control will keep from muscle shock which injuries happen with out it.
Once I get past the arthritis wall I get better I'dk why
Do your sounds come directly from the module? or do you have any DAW? it sounds amazing! :)
Fellow Alex! So when I'm playing without music in the vid you're hearing Superior Drummer 3, and when it's to music that's coming from the TD-30 module. In both cases I produce my own kits - SD3 is highly recommended if you are into drum production as it's possible to make some amazingly life-like stuff!
It would be interesting to see what kind of problems you'd get using a real kit rather than an electric one.
Oh yeah, nice thinking. I could see two sides to it. On the positive, more tactile play - acoustic drums just have more 'zones' to hit, more hardware to play, more dynamic range. On the negative, an acoustic kit only has one sound (for the most part) - a big benefit of electric drumming is how you can switch to a whole new sound and genre in an instant. That really helps me stay interested over multiple hours. What do you think would be different?
Big problem is hearing. Electric drums are easier on the ears because you can throttle down. 40 hours of regular drumming would cause a good bit of ringing. The better e kits give you a good bit tactile control these days. Cymbals still suck.
Really cool experiment, it’s inspiring me to put in some more solid training. also, what’s the track 10:17?
Cheers! The funk tracks I played along to are from this video: ua-cam.com/video/-pklBKQyeAI/v-deo.html
Wow, fair play... My first thought was that you're absolutely mad embarking on something like this 😂 but you've obviously given yourself quite the challenge and you completed it, so well done. Keep the videos coming Alex. (And it's nice to see your face on camera!) I just bought a Nord Drum 3p so all I want to achieve is to get back into the drums, and start making more music. Much love xxx
Ah nice, drop some links when you have a musical output going. Won't take long to get those jazz chops back I reckon
