They were contacted to see if they could do some work urgently for a design Linda Barker had done for the programme. Although these particular covers are not their normal line of work - this is how it was done.

That's rubbish, that's not polishing beechwood, you idiots, your spraying a liquid colour, your not using a bees wax or beech polish mixture, anybody can use a spray gun. You's are not french polishers yous are unqualified. 😂😅😝
I don't think the hot glue was apart of the traditional re-upholstery style of work...... other than that I would say good job. Hot glue is a NO NO in my book. Master Cosplayer here and I wouldn't touch the stuff at all for anything I do.

It is unlikely that I would bother contemplating reupholstering my 3 seater french sofa after seeing this video. What was I thinking?

I know you can find solutions to this problem in the Stodoys plans.
They have used "PIGMENT" and finished it with "POLYURETHANE TOP COAT " so the "ANILINE" sofa is now a "PIGMENTED" LEATHER and "WILL" have a TOTALLY DIFFERENT FEEL to it and will feel nothing like the original !!! HOW DO KNOW ?? I've been in the leather business for over 50 years ! very naughty to call this video an aniline restoration !
Totally agree with you. An aniline leather can be dyed but never painted or clear coated A semi aniline can have a painted surface and clear lacquer but minimal amounts, no more than 20 micron thick. It is not as soft as a full aniline but has a degree of uniformity and protection that aniline does not have but is still softer than the standard clear coated leathers

I’m restoring an old wooden captains chair and have it sanded and stained and ready for the finish. I’m thinking polyurethane if that is an acceptable finish for furniture. The seat will be cushioned and upholstered afterwards. My question is about applying the poly. I don’t have a sprayer, so should I apply multiple very thin coats with a natural bristle brush, applying a coat over the entire chair, or should apply it in sections like sitting the chair on its side and applying a coat to the top face, then other sides top face, so on and so forth? Also since they are thin coats would you recommend brushing it on, or soaking a rag/towel in the poly and wiping it on as I’ve seen others do?

this way you transform the pricey leather to a vinyl look top coated leather. try to restore the leather without loosing the natural properties of it. sofa with aniline leather will cost 6-10 k top coated/finished leather will cost 2k
