I like to dive into the science and physics of slings. (also Stirling Engines!!)
Experiments with firing clay glandes in a microwave
Experimenting with using a microwave kiln to make fired clay glandes in the microwave in under 2 hours with commercially available clay. (Terracotta)
Total energy cost is around 2 - 3 kWh. The clay was fired at a temperature higher than recommended (1150°C) which is likely why they were shiny and looked glazed.

Hit a 'diana' (50cm bullseye) and move back 10 feet (3m). See how far you can get in 30 min or an hour. slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1585792415/90#90 You could also do 2 points to move back (2 square hits(120cm), or a diana) Editing error: 10 shots at 100 ft, 3 shots at 110 ft #shepherdsling #slinging #throwing #slingshotchallenge
Slinging - More efficient throwing with a high wind-up
Переглядів 4304 місяці тому
If you see where my hand goes on the wind up, it is low in the first throw and progressively higher, where I'm trying to get my hand up and behind my head before I start the power stroke (acceleration of the projectile). The third throw looks more efficient (and is!). This is because I have lengthened the power stroke, or lengthened the distance over which I am applying maximum force to the pro...

Sling Types and Grips

I talk for too long about different sling types, reasons you might want to use them, and different grip styles and reasons you may want to use one over another. I also emphasize the need to change things up and try new things when using the sling, ultimately making your brain more adaptable and become a more proficient slinger. I tried to keep this concise, but failed miserably. @0:00 Introduct...

Even your misses are great info for us newbies 🎉
Impressive performance from such a little engine!
It was! I have never replicated its performance on a similar engine. I think I had the crank shaft tuned perfectly so there was no binding.
That video both encourages and somewhat dwarfs my newbie efforts 😅.
You know, in 2020, I couldn't break 200m. I think the purpose of these distance videos is to show what is possible for an average person that puts in some effort to improve can do (throwing has honestly never been a strength of mine). In the last few years I put a lot of effort into improving mechanics and focusing on getting better speed. I just turned 40 this year, so it makes me wonder if a younger me could have done better with the same training. Hopefully some young gun will take it as a challenge and smash the world record soon!
@IronGoober bless you , you're still so young ! I'm a newbie , but having great fun learning. Wish you were my side of the pond !
the ball can be accelerated to 80 m/s, receiving 160-180 joules, it hurts
I've just received an almost identical sling from bingsslings perfect for tennis balls. Your an inspiration! Thank you 🎉
I admire all your videos, I'm a subscribed follower , and a old novice , you can throw either hand ! Amazing 👏
Don't tell anyone...but the offhand throw took the most tries to get a hit :)
@IronGoober I don't doubt it , there's very few ambidextrous people, and I'm definitely not one 😅. Your insights and instruction are epic 😎, definitely the best , many thanks 😇.
460 yards! Amazing!
I wonder what the speed limit is.. Is it possible to accelerate it to 100... 150 meters per second?
I've seen one video where it was very likely someone was getting 100m/s or greater, but with a 2m long sling. It is hard to get the launch angle with such a sling. I think with the right training and background someone could do it with a sling close to what I'm doing. I'm a novice thrower compared to olympian javelin throwers or pro baseball pitchers. Get their mechanics and mobility paired with the sling...I think some incredible speeds and distances could be reached.
Where do you get the file to 3d print the concrete mold?
Here is one source. slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1690562625
Only just found your channel, for a old novice like me. This is an excellent video !!!
As an older novice slinger these results are fascinating 👌. I'm comparing the mph results to other sports such as tennis 🎾, very impressive anthing approaching 100mph ! I hope one day to reach such velocity 🎉. ( probably too old , but I'll try !).
Do you know Roald Bradstock? he set some world records throwing nearing 60 (by hand, not with a sling)! I just hope to have his longevity.
@IronGoober I have never been much good at distance hand thows. Hence my taking up slinging , which is a good way to get arm strains 😄.
God of war font?
How long is your sling? Love your videos.
Thanks! I use a number of different lengths. My go to for the past year has been 50 cm, (20 inches), but I also have quite a few 70-75 cm (27-30 inch) and my distance slings are a bit over 1 m long.
Thank you for answering back. Love your chanel so Informative I never tried slinging. Your explanations on your chanel helps us that never tried before be more comfortable adding it to our arsenal. Thanks again keep up the good work.
Thank you. An excellent demonstration of techniques. Much appreciated.
I wanna do this with nerf balls
What kind of cord qould you recommend for making a foxtail? How long should the cord be?
Something cheap. Paracord is good. Sisal, jute. Cotton string. Anything that will attach to a weight will work. A shoelace would be enough, honestly. The whole purpose is to just have a tool that can help find the timing of the throw. Unless you want to make one as a toy for kids or something. Then paracord is probably the best value for the robustness.
Very well done and super info! ThanX!
Epic
Great information thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience
I want one of those slings
👌⭐💫
I didn't know there was such a thing. That was amazing!
I can't believe i've just watched a random dude in the other side of the world microwaving dried mud for half an hour :D (also, i would love to see the warranty claim conversation for this microwave if it ever breaks)
I can't believe you watched the whole thing either! lol. And I think Panasonic welcomes evaporated clay in the interior of their microwaves...
I wonder what the electricity costs per glande. Making a wood fire in a grill would probably do the trick
Solar panels and a battery make it free 😄
Just casually showing off the milling machine. I see you
To help with cracking, grind up some old clay that has already been fired and it to your clay mix. And those microwave glandes look sick.
It helps with the air dry, but less with the final drying. The commercial stuff is really sensitive to heating rate. The Louisiana clay didn't care at all though.
I love their glassy look! It will be very interesting to see how far they reach
How much is energy cost for firing?
It's between 2 and 3 kWh.

Have any recommendations for a great all around/beginner sling?
Search YT for 'seatbelt sling's or '1 minute sling'. The former is a good all around sling, the latter is the fastest cheapest sling you can make if you just want to chuck stuff. Make one about the length of your arm to start.
167 mph u could kill someone in armor with a orange just by blunt force trauma alone
Yeah, but that stone was only about 50g. An orange is much heavier. I don't think I would get those sort of velocities with something that heavy. Maybe someday :)
Found it !!!!!! Thanks
A slow motion release would be vary helpful
Off hand was super impressive for anyone who has ever tried it!!
this must shatter bone
Is rather amazing what a sense of success and feeling of competence learning how to shoot well, with anything at all, can bring. And man oh man, everyone has at least the ability to arm up with an assault style shoelace.... and be dangerous if need be. Gen X approved hehehe. Gen X..... we know what is needed to remember..... the kiddies still need us wise sages to remind em how to survive in the prehistoric days...... you know, the days before internet..... HAHA, 1973 BC (before computers). We''ll just MacGyver a deadly weapon from yonder flax or discarded jute baler twine..... hehehe.
I Envy your ammo dump there, bud.... heheh Rock on!
Pure beauty right there. Crack shot!
Woo hoo! Congrats on the 400+ mark.
Hehehe, too dang sore to sling today after slingin too much yesterday (as if there is such a thing as too much other than physically), so am instead havin a blast with your channel instead. Rock on dude!
Oh yeah, the comfort and feel of the weight is amazing. too heavy.... ugh, rip something, too light, accuracy suffers but still fun, ya get that just right weight...... whoa, deadly. for mine I like to stick to about 1.5-2" diameter.... just feels the best, and throw in some big wierdos and broken but not sharp for the underhand lobs and ricochet effect fun hehehe. Love playing with the different lengths
YEAH MAN!!!!!!! Dang that is satisfying dead on didn't even hit the stick PERFECT! Great job, and thanks for the vid.
Whoa...... that humming shot..... can you imagine hearing that comin atcha? hence those whistling bullets eh? Freakin terror weapon...... I like to see that my underhand shots are similar, and the average 9 seconds flight is about same for me. EEEEch wish I wasn't so sore from last session yesterday.. ya make we wanna go out and virtually compete with ya. my target is a boulder about same distance.... got approx 35" sling.... might shorten it a little bit though, it is a little long for the fig 8, tends to make me wanna bend a little wrong too far not so great for the ergonomics.... I think if I shorten to 32 maybe 30" will be the best all around versatility with all methods. the sling sure is a fun thing, and dang is comforting to always have in your pocket or around wrist. Surprises the crap outta anyone that sees, most have never seen anything like it in their lives......... and suprises the heck outta them even with David and Goliath stories, and accounts of historic slingers, unless you see it, is hard to understand how deadly they are. And when a concrete wall crack report from way over there comes to the ear and the dust plume from a boulder from shattering rocks....... is rather terrifying.
Virtual distance competition is certainly welcome! The best way to get better is have other people push you
@@IronGoober Wednesday, my elder brother wants to come with me and learn, got an extra simple sling in pack, first like this with us, am so looking forward to teaching my elder brother..... and of course, gonna offer other friend I made sling for and went a few times with, we are gonna have a slinging party on perhaps one of the last awesome days of the year..... and the beavers {I named Castor, freindly fella, llikes to tease me when slingin on the spillway, by taking his damn time in front, and not wanting to do the underhad distance if he is near,..... don't wanna accidentally hurt Castor...... but, dang, sassy boy, 10 ft in front just slowly saucily wading slow....., Ok dude, git to your lodge so's I can throw as far without alarming ya or heaven forbid hurt ya by accident.... just had to laugh, he sometimes slaps the tail on water to say 'later dude' as I wave hat goodbye for the day when shoulder burned out...... hehehe, what beauty............ god bless, you and all who you love. rock on bro.
@@IronGoober It's just..... when you can do something from a distance, is so ...... magical..... hehehe, there can be only one way... It's a kinda magic... ua-cam.com/video/4NUSAulJpN8/v-deo.html
I feel the same when I aim for the boulder on the shore across the dam here. My shoulder and back were aching from balearic sidearm and fig 8 the one day, so figured would work on the underhand only and release around hip to avoid any more tearing, man.... felt the same way, by eye, it looks like around very close distance you got goin there, was so happy when I landed had to be like three to 5 feet away, and right under ..... that was worth a little jig for sure.

Fun!
Sweet distance ❤ Great place for rc vehicle with camera, amphibious might come in handy there in case it rains 😂 I love it!
I think we got like 1" of rain the night before. It was really coming down. It also dried up incredibly fast. Not sure if that is just the dry air, or the combination of dry air and salty lake bed. But, luckily, I didn't need anything amphibious, just a bit of time for it to dry (which is good, since my pickup is only 2wd). And thanks!
Can you do the same with yucca?
Yes, but you have to be a bit more delicate when scraping off the excess material. The fibers are a bit more fragile.
