MSC Seaside Ship Review 2023: Pros, Cons & Challenges in the US Market Revealed! #cruise #msc
So , definitely go from Boston to Canada. Wait for drydock.
Despite Virgin having the best entertainment, their food sucks, ship design is simple and cheap, customer service is nonexistent. They are just different and people were happy about it (me included) but they are clearly overrated.
Here’s my opinion…we went on Celebrity Millennium in 2019 to Alaska for our first ever cruise. The website from the beginning was easy to use and had lots of phone# to get answers for different topics. I just got back from Holland Zuiderdam from the Caribbean. Their website only has one customer service phone# that you are on hold forever to finally get someone who doesn’t have the answers to your questions because they are overwhelmed and put you on hold forever. The entertainment on Holland was awful. They had one good comedian one good singer and the rest of the 8 nights of entertainment was the same group over and over. The food on Celebrity was much better and you never had to stand in line like on Holland. Also there were many times I couldn’t find a table to sit at on Holland. My Veranda room at front of ship on Holland swayed a lot all the time. The Veranda room on Celebrity in back never swayed. I would highly recommend Celebrity over Holland.
How does someone “pre” purchase something? What is the pre part? Because wouldn’t you just be purchasing their bar tab? You’re still purchasing it
Most things such as a wi-fi package or the bar tab is less expensive before the cruise than once onboard the ship. All cruise lines have an online account cruise planner where you reserve shore excursions, add specialty dining reservation, and with Virgin select your bar tab amount. You are correct that all of these are additional purchases but it is always to your benefit to purchase these before your cruise to get the lower price and the date and times for other items before they sell out. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
@ , my question is more about your wording of “pre-paying”, you either pay, or you don’t. The pre to paying is doing nothing. Up until the point of paying you aren’t paying, you pay when you pay. It’s an action unto itself. The pre would be getting your credit card out.
❤ Thank you for making this video. I been looking for a cruise that has a well manner travelers base. Because I've seen some crazy stuff on carnival to the points of brawls and this is why i avoid that cruise line. I have been on Royal Caribbean twice and so far it's been decent but I have seen some crazy folks for time to time that don't behave or even dress appropriately . After seeing this video im sure my wife and i would like to give celebrity a try trust me we need a break after working long hours in the medical field. Now that being said is there any activities for my kids that are at the ages of 18 and 13??
I am on Celebrity this week and the demographic is very well behaved and upscale. We love it and I am sure that you would too! There are lots of activities around the ship that your kids can participate in during the day and in the evenings. There is a teen club with video games and activities too. There is not as much as with Royal Caribbean but still a good amount. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
I'm team bucket. Thank you for the video.
Thank you for sharing and for watching!
You need to try an upscale line like Oceania or Viking’s restaurants. They blow the mainstream lines away. But of course you pay more as well.
I really want to move up and experience the luxury segment. The cuisine from Oceania and Viking are exceptional! The budget doesn't support that just yet! Thanks for watching!
Great video. We're planning our first cruise and have always wanted to see the Caribbean. However the most convenient time for us to travel is in july and we're a bit hesitant since it's in the beginning of hurricane season-would you say the weather in July is a significant concern when visiting the Caribbean?
I have lived in South Florida for over 20 years and July is very hot in the Caribbean but you should not experience hurricanes. The heaviest hurricane season will be from late August through the end of October into early November. July will have less options for you to choose from but many cruise lines are sailing to the Caribbean year round now. The major Caribbean season is November through end of April with a huge assortment of cruise itineraries to choose from. Let me know if I can help plan and book with you! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Brah I had to have you on 1.75 playback, my gosh
Sorry about that! Thank you for commenting and for watching!
If the debarkation line doesn’t start before 7-7:15 and it moves extremely fast what is the advantage of getting in line at 6:30
We tend to like to exit the ship as early as possible to get a jump on traffic. We used to park offsite and the more time we have always helps. If we sail out of Port Everglades, we now take an Uber. At about 7:00 am there will be a few hundred guests in line and it will wrap around the entire debarkation deck. Even with a moderately fast moving line, this will take a lot of time. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Thank you Doug, highly informative video, has helped my family in understanding what rooms to look at for our upcoming booking.
So glad that you found it helpful! Please let me know if you need any assistance in booking. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Great video! Thank you for posting.
You are welcome! I am glad that you enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
10/10 for Celebrity. I recently travelled on Quantum of the Seas, oh my, there’s no comparison between these two companies and surprising enough they are owned by the same company. The difference is the history of Celebrity, formerly owned by Chandris Lines. The captain and Crew must always remain Greek and the X must always be their Logo, X being the Greek letter for C or Ch. I have been on Chandris ships way back in the 60s and 70s and couldn’t wait to get on board a Celebrity the moment they came to Australia. When it comes to comparing with RCC It’s all about class, soft decor, tasteful furnishings and wall art and of course the food, way above RCC. Celebrity do not focus on toys, games, slides, climbing walls and other adult play areas. Their outdoor seating is padded and a dream to sit on. The entertainment is amazing, no one man bands or poor musicians. Ok I’m obviously biased. Celebrity it is, from there oldest up to now 2024. ❤🇬🇷❤🇬🇷❤🇬🇷
It is amazing how different RCC is from Celebrity but that is by design. Royal has RCC as the mass market product and Celebrity as the Premium product. They source, plan and execute very differently. I really enjoy most everything from Celebrity with the exception of a few times their execution could have been better lately. We are on the Beyond at the end of this coming week for 10 days. We are really looking forward to it. Thanks so much for sharing and for watching!
Regarding the itineraries, Montréal is also welcoming international cruises and should definitely be considered as starting or ending point for your future cruise!
Great addition to the conversation for sure! There are very few options for Montreal but several smaller ships do embark and end in Montreal. I just had a very large group sail from Montreal. I loved visiting Montreal on business for several years in the 90's from Chicago. It is a beautiful city and full of amazing pre and post cruise destinations! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Hi. I was raised in PR but now I live in Indiana. I just wanted to thank you for saying such wonderful things about my country!
We just love Old San Juan and have gone back for a few long weekends a few times. We have explored the rain forest and several areas surrounding San Juan. The people are so nice and I just love the vibe there. Ironically, I was raised in Indiana and went to IU Bloomington. You might have noticed my IU plaque in my videos. Thanks so much for sharing and for watching!
Do the American cruise lines have international crews?
There will be a mix onboard but since the ships are flagged in the United States, most of the staff is going to be US as well.
I want to be alone. I don't want entertainment. I don't want an amusement park. I don't need fancy dining. I just want to sleep late, read a book and look out on the ocean. Is there a cruise ship for the likes of me? I'm also 76 years old. There are no more passengers taken on freighter ships 😢.
I get it for sure. I think that some of the older, smaller Royal Caribbean or NCL ships might provide you with a decent fare, especially the NCL solo rates. If you sail outside of school holidays, there should be few kids. There are many quiet spots and the food is good but not over the top. Other than that, the smaller Holland America ships would seem to be a good fit. Thanks for sharing and for watching.
AMBASSADOR Have seen the light, They not only accommodate Solo's but sail from UK Ports so no flying costs, or hours to get there before your sailing
Good for you! I've seen some reviews from Ambassador and the rates seem to be very reasonable too! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Definitely bucket list! Enjoyed your video very much.
I agree that this is a bucket list adventure for sure. I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Thanks for the in depth review. I feel the same about MSC. I am heading to the Seaside for Thanksgiving 2024 - I always have low expectations for MSC - but since a 7 night balcony for two was only a thousand dollars I accept the mediocrity. Usually though I pay a few hundred more and love my experience on Celebrity, Princess or HAL.
I hope you are having or had a great cruise over Thanksgiving! Sometimes those low rates are hard to resist! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
This is a really helpful video. Thank you!
I am glad that you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!
I’ve sailed on Disney Cruise Line several times and just got off my first Virgin Voyages cruise. I sailed Celebrity (Alaska) but that was years ago and sounds like things have changed a lot. Do you have a video that explains the different classes of ships?
I hope that you enjoyed Virgin! it is a great experience. I do have an early video that shows the different ships in the Celebrity fleet. ua-cam.com/video/QyAvPOmsHqY/v-deo.html Thanks so much for watching!

Another great informative video looking forward to our cruise next year on the beyond and retreat sky suite
Thank you so much! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
thank you for this video
Hopefully people will stop doing some of these things! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video are you familiar with the Magic Carpet Sky Suite on the Beyond is it less noisy i hear like deck 11 and up thank you
The Magic Carpet Sky Suites (S2) are configured a bit differently from the S1 category. The bed does NOT face the sliding doors and there is no peak-a-bo window into the stateroom from the bathroom. They are pretty much the same size though. Some of the balconies will have steel reenforced sides (the Magic Carpet tracks) to them causing a slight obscured view but not anything to worry about. I would say deck 11 Magic Carpet Sky Suites might have some noise from the pool deck and from the Magic Carpet bar when it is an extension of the pool deck 14. Sky Suites on deck 12 will definitely have noise from the public decks and Magic Carpet bar throughout the day and pool deck cleaning noise from the pool deck above during the early mornings. These suites do have an adjoining inside stateroom which is a great solution for a family. I am in a Celebrity Beyond S1 Sky Suite on deck 10 sailing Dec 13 and I will see if I can address this in my review after the cruise. I hope that was helpful and I am available for further consultation and booking if interested. Thanks for watching!
I've been on both (31 cruises in total) I prefer Holland America.
They have made some great decisions lately with the addition of live production shows back into the theater and adding some additional live music to the music walk. HAL is excellent for the correct demographic! Thanks so much or sharing and for watching!
Buenos días desde Barcelona, España. Muchas gracias por sus consejos, seguro que serán muy útiles !!😊😊
¡Me alegro de que te haya gustado el vídeo! ¡Gracias por verlo!
Classical music performances would be a dream. But the shower curtains are a disqualifying factor. Gross!
Unfortunately, Holland America has moved away from the classical Lincoln Center Stage live music and even the BB Kings Jazz on all ships except the Pinnacle Class where BB Kings has it's own standalone venue. On the other ships BB Kings is now the Rolling Stone Lounge. I still have not seen live music in any of the theater shows. Celebrity uses a live orchestra is all of it's theater shows even for guest headliners. They learn their sets just a day or two ahead of time. The shower curtains are a big turn off but many of the updated cabins on HAL do have the glass enclosures. Especially in the Signature Suites.
We have booked 2 Celebrity cruises over the next 6 months. It will be our first time with Celebrity after many years on Royal. Shockingly, we found Celebrity sales to be more affordable than Royal these days. Im really looking forward to a more classy and luxurious experience.
If you are pricing out cruise only fares on Celebrity, they are many times less expensive than the new Royal Caribbean ships. When you start adding in the All Included fare for The Retreat (suites class) they start getting expensive but still in line with Royal. You can really get some good Celebrity rates on the older Millennium Class and most of the Solstice Class. Edge class ships are still competitive with the large new Royal mega ships. I hope you really enjoy your Celebrity experience. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
The drink package info was good. I know mocktails would fall into the basic included. What I didn't see was which category the frozen alcohol drinks would fall under. Such as Frozen Margarita, Mudslide, etc. Would you know anything about that?
There are frozen drinks in each drink package and the price is normally attached the brand of alcohol that is used. The classic package includes drinks that are up to $10 each and the Premium package is up to $17 each. If the frozen drink is above that $10 price, you just pay the difference plus the added gratuity. Smoothies at the spa cafe are not included in the Classic Package.
@@seemoreseascruises3791 Thank you!
Totally agree, my first celebrity cruise was this past August to Alaska, and the experience was absolutely perfect, zero complaints, zero issues, flawless most relaxing, tranquil, peaceful vacation. There is just no words for how amazing it was. The only thing that is missing is Princess beds and Princess medallion experience! But Princess has a higher ratio of elderly, so you got to pick your preference there. I also had the pleasure of experience the worse cruise line in May, yes Costa! And yes, it is the worse cruise line. The opposite of celebrity in every way!
So glad that you have enjoyed your Celebrity Alaska cruise!! Did you do the Edge or the Solstice? There are also other ships in the region doing North South one way sailings. I enjoy the bedding on Celebrity, in fact I have just researched ordering their bedding for our home use. We did not like the new expensive sheets we bought for home...... Celebrity does and amazing job with most itineraries but they are not perfect. We sail on Beyond in Dec for a 10-Night Southern Caribbean. We are so looking forward to experiencing the Edge Class Retreat Suite Class for that entire cruise. Christmas is coming early for us this year! Costa is in a completely different category and should be at the opposite end of the experience. The counterpart in the US market is MSC (non Yacht Club bookings) and they too are night and day different from Celebrity. Let me know if I can help you plan your next Celebrity Cruise! Thanks so much for sharing and for watching!
This video was very detailed and full of information. I will visit Ocean Cay for the first time in January and I am so excited!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge of Ocean Cay!! 😃
So glad that you found it helpful! It is a really nice private island. I enjoy the lighthouse bar / lounge area. It is actually pretty private and not as crowded as you might think. The cabanas around the rear lagoon I found to not be the best value for two people. I hope you have a great day and hopefully evening too! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
Excited to go on our Canada/New England Cruise in August 30th 2025 on the Majestic Princess! We're Canadian so the cold doesn't bother us much and it's going to be super convenient for us so we won't have to exchange as much Canadian Dollars into USD
That is fantastic! August won't be cold as you know and I have to say that almost all ports were some of the BEST that we have ever experienced now that our cruise has been completed. Quebec City is a place that we will be going back to for an extended visit as will PEI. What a wonderful experience we had. If you have not seen my review of the Celebrity Eclipse 11 Night watch it here ua-cam.com/video/GkFbtRF-1VI/v-deo.html The Ship had some issues as did Boston as an embarkation port. The Princess ship had the "good" terminal but getting there was slow in the morning so take a good look at that. Princess is wonderful so I wish you an excellent sailing! Are the ports new to you or are they just visits from a new perspective? Thanks so much for sharing and for watching!
Thanks for video went to look at Black Friday pricing and is $125 today.
Great time to look! So glad that you liked the video! Thanks for watching!
Dont book a cruise from Vancouver BC to LA. At the end of the season. Unless you dont mind re-living the beginning of the classic movie the Poseidon adventure. I did it never again.
Wow, that doesn't sound like fun. I've been on a couple cruises with some very nasty weather. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
@@seemoreseascruises3791 We were told afterwards thats the worse cruise to go on. Boy they were not kidding.
Wish you would address accessible rooms!!!
Yes, that is a great point. Most all categories have accessible staterooms however they are very limited. If you are in need of one, it is a very good idea to book at least a year in advance.
@ thanks
Thank you very much for your fine explanations. May I kindly ask you which cruise line you might recommend my wife (60) and me (70) to rather comfortably visit the cities of Vancouver and Seattle (may be also included Vancouver Island, but not necessarily). We are long time travelers from Germany and would like to be safely tour guided during our stay in those cities. Best wishes.
I would recommend Holland America Line and Princess Cruises for Alaska cruises out of either port. Both cruise lines will offer the best itineraries having serviced the region longer than most other cruise lines. They both also have cruise tours that allow you to cruise for 7 days then do a land tour in the northern parts of Alaska. I would recommend that you use Viator for local Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Seattle tours. The operators have been vetted and are very trustworthy. The Viator tours also can almost always be refunded up to 24 hours in advance. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching!
@ Wow!!! 🙏✨ Thank you so much. May be for us that comes down to just fly to one of both cities, enjoy the Viator guided tours and may be fly to the other city to kind of the same there. We‘ll think it through. Your answer helps a lot as a base. 👍🎶 Kind regards
I could have done without the shot of the clearly alive lobster going into the pot.
I get that. Sorry the the lobster killer moment. (There is a memorable line in the movie Julia & Julia about this....)
This is the best overview I have seen. Very helpful for a first timer on Virgin!
Thank you so much! If you need assistance with booking your Virgin cruise, I'd be happy to help. If you are already booked, you are going to love it. Just make sure to log in early to book those dinners pre-cruise! Thanks for watching!
@ thank you. Leaving at the end of the month I booked 30 days out and.. all the dinners were sold out. I have been checking every day and yesterday they released a bunch of dinner times so I was able to book the whole week. Thank you again.
@@danieldorchester5221 I'm glad that you were able to get it all arranged. When you board the ship, the rest of the space will be released and you can go to the assigned place (normally Razzle Dazzle) and sit with an agent who can change things around or change times. Remember that The Wake can be booked unlimited times for brunch and lunch throughout your cruise.
Awesome video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it! I really hope it was helpful. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
The medallion. That did it for me.
Princess does have a great app and technology! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
was it much improved the next morning?
It lasted throughout the night and it was a bit better but still very rocky for the whole next day.
Going on my first New England/Canada cruise on RCL out of Baltimore. For those of us who live in NC and SC, Baltimore is within a driving distance.
That is so great! Excellent reminder! I love being able to Uber to Port Everglades with it normally being cheaper than parking for a 7+ day cruise. I can also drive to Miami, Port Canaveral, Tampa and Jax. I know, I'm spoiled and very lucky - that is why I cruise a lot! LOL Thanks so much for the contribution and for watching!
We cruised on Vision of the Seas out of Baltimore last March, just before the Key Bridge disaster. She may be old, but she's in good shape, and we enjoyed our trip quite a lot. Don't expect the amenities of a big ship, but the live music is great. There is an adult pool with a retractable roof which was comfortable even on cooler days. Baltimore was a good spot to sail out of, very easy to get into from I-95, with plenty of reasonably priced parking. If you are driving a good distance, I would plan to arrive the day before because traffic on that highway can be unpredictable, especially near DC.
@johnflack4241 been on Vision out of Baltimore last year. It was an easy port and we drove in the same day. Will go early just in case of traffic. I love the smaller ships.
I’m doing that trip sept 11 next year
Thanks for the video. is there a nightclub for dancing at night? do any of the music artists play music that is for dancing or is everything just relaxing music?
Yes! There are plenty of places to dance onboard. The solstice class has Quasar which is a dance club open late. They also have dancing and live music in the atrium almost every night, a silent disco either in the atrium or the pool deck. Edge Class has a large dance floor with live bands in the Piazza near the Martini Bar as well as in The Club with live bands and all types of music played throughout the cruise! You will have lots of choices! Thanks so much for asking and for watching!
@@seemoreseascruises3791 thanks for that. Does the millennium class also offer dancing?
The pizza on the MSC Lirica was very good. But the food was mediocre over all
I had high hopes for great pizza but as you heard, I was disappointed. The US Ships are not like the Med ships unfortunately. MSC has a way to go in the US market in my opinion. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
We like HAL and Princess (and RC too but it is not in this category). The HAL Rotterdam food is outstanding and the Music Walk is top notch. For Princess we have found more destination combinations we like so they have gotten more of our business. Including RC, these three lines do everything we want and need.
I really love the food on HAL as well but the buffet is hit and miss. Rotterdam was outstanding however we did not have the new entertainment onboard with the updated theater shows. We had the boring dance company in the main theater. The Music Walk is great for a night or two but I find it a bit repetitive with the lack of real entertainment in the main theater. I wish they would bring back live music in the theater. Princess gets such high marks but unfortunately we have selected better itineraries sailing out of Port Everglades in FL. I have booked two Princess Cruises for 2025 so fingers crossed that I will be a big fan! Thanks for sharing and for watching!.
Thanks for the comprehensive view! Extremely helpful!
I am so glad that you found it helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
We love the Celebrity Solstice class, specifically Equinox, and I would have booked Celebrity for our upcoming Alaska cruise in May, but I did research & discovered HAL does Alaska the best. I booked Koningsdam because I feel the Pinnacle class is the closest to Solstice class, plus I like the itinerary out of Vancouver a bit better.
I also love the Solstice class sailing on each ship at least twice, however had a really disappointing 11 Night just recently on the Eclipse. I did the Reflection too last weekend and it was much better but a very different demographic being a short weekend cruise. We did the Solstice for Alaska and agree that HAL or even Princess have better itineraries in Alaska. Pinnacle Class is a great choice since it has better entertainment options than smaller HAL ships. Consider Club Orange for an upgraded dining experience. Have a great cruise and thanks for sharing and for watching!
As a person who has gone on over 30 cruises, cruised many different cruise lines, and will be going on a Holland America Zaandam cruise departing January 18 of 2025, I can tell you its not even close. The best cruise is aboard our own boat, where we go on voyages as a couple, cooking our own meals, making our own bed, planning, provisioning, navigating, locking, docking, anchoring, advancing our seamanship and doing it all on our schedule and as we wish.
I can't argue with that at all! Having my own boat and getting to source the food myself, cook it myself and go where I want to is hands down the better option! I'll have to beef up my viewership on UA-cam and book a lot more cruises to get there though! Thanks for sharing and for watching!
@@seemoreseascruises3791 wow. Thank you for taking time to reply to my comment.
