CRINGE IS THE WORD. WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE IN YOUR LIFE? | Dropping Dymes Podcast | EPISODE #110
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome all the way the hell back, to yet another episode, in another awesome season!!! Thank you for pulling back up on us! We are back, and making it happen, just for you all, and a little bit for us. We greatly appreciate your presence, and want to thank you for letting us borrow a little bit of your time, letting us into a little bit of your space, and just letting us come in and do what we do, and that’s just talk! Hopefully we share something, drop a dyme or two that you can pick up, save in your piggy bank of life, and cash it in when the time is right, and it makes sense in your situation!
As you know, we jump right into that Question of the Week, and this week, it was asked what’s the craziest thing that you believed as a kid? Believing in the Easter Bunny, believing you could fly, that you could do Karate based on watching certain movies, I know there had to be something. Maybe it wasn’t crazy to you, so we’ll say different, if that makes any difference. Come on, talk to us now! We all believed a little something that was crazy growing up, so what was yours? Let talk about it!
This week’s topic isn’t a real serious one. Just wanted to lighting it up a little bit, so we talked about some of the things that were trendy at one point, but one might consider a bit cringy now? We talk jersey dresses, race car jackets, Crown Victoria’s, Dickie suits, what’s something you thought was dope in the moment, but looking back, you think “what was I on?” Of course we give our take, but you know we want hear yours! We all had them, right? So let’s talk about it!
As always, we appreciate you giving us a little of your time, letting us borrow a little of your space, to let us just come in and do what we do, and that's just talk! Praying these words connect and help in some way! Continue to tell a friend to tell a friend to come be our friends, so we can all be friends! We're still on our quest to get to 1,000 subscribers and you, our family and friends are so dope, and you all mean so much in that quest! Please don't forget to swing by www.droppingdymes.com for some our new merchandise, and for the newbies, who we still love, go ahead and hit that Subscribe button, Share, Comment, Like 👍🏾 and Hit that Bell 🔔 to get the notifications.
We love you like Starbucks customers love pumpkin spice! 💪🏾✊🏾🤞🏾🤟🏾

At least the people on FB could answer the question about the toxic trait 😂🤦🏾‍♀️… my bad with the $1 million one. I don’t think about how vague it was lol. Brandon’s comment about his first mil is real 😂… I couldn’t bc I feel I would be the person God decides to make an example out of 😂😂😂😫🤦🏾‍♀️… I would do amateur night at Magic City for a mil. I know ppl do it but I’m not people lol. I’m me & it’s out of my norm. I recently asked for help at work with some change in dynamics I’m dealing with within my team. I’ve started being more open to asking for help with work-related things. At first, I felt being the only black person in leadership for my unit, I needed to try & figure it out on my own. I’ve learned it’s ok to open up bc it could be someone else struggling with the same thing & people are receptive to help. Personal life, I’m very hesitant. I choose very carefully what I ask for help on because: 1. People throw it in your face when they get mad 2. Not wanting to seem like a burden, when I know (or assume) they can’t help. (Especially if they are usually coming to me for help for the same thing). 3. People saying yes but then reneging grinds my gears & then I’ll never ask you for help again. I’ve been open to helping ppl but I noticed a bad habit of aligning that with my worth, which I had to stop. I’ll do better with potential QOTW in the future 😂😫🤷🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️. My bad yall … as always, thank yall for sharing. Oh…I finally went to the website. It’s hoodie season so that crop hoodie may be a win lol

“Alcohol… because no great story started with a salad 😂”. Goldschlager, 151 & Smirnoff Cranberry… all was mixed on my 21st birthday & I can’t remember anything but there is a picture of me balled up in fetal position on my bed, to show the after affects. I didn’t drink before 21 & threw a party. People told me it was a lot of dancing, games & me passing out lol. Once my sister realized I was done, she kicked everybody out & my friends cleaned up my spot. At least that’s what they told me bc I don’t remember 😂 - 11:16 what was that sound Brandon made as a “cry” 😂😫🤣 - Lori Harvey proved there is no longer a double-standard with women and dating. Not saying she smashed everybody she’s been with. We see more women applauding her for “don’t guys the way they do women”. She owns it all 🔥🔥🔥 - Double standards around what girls and guys can do (this was talked about before). Women do gymnastics and in the black household, men don’t. They play ball (football, baseball, basketball). If a boy wanted to do gymnastics, people would look at him sideways. Double standards in various professions - Some companies are getting rid of the DEI roles, others (like my company) are transitioning to terms like “Belonging and Inclusion”. This brings up another double standard: black women saving everybody with DEI & voting. At first, at work, I enjoyed being asked to chair some of our employee engagement activities but now I feel like a “token black woman” and they aren’t gonna make changes if we continue to save them. - To add on to Byron’s comment about double-standards with pay equality, women are finally learning to advocate for ourselves. We don’t ask for more, so we don’t seem greedy or fear the rejection. Men know they aren’t qualified but will ask for 3xs what they are worth. This topic can go on forever! Double standards with politics, religions, deadbeat moms, parenting, so many things. We appreciate you guys for sharing!

The episode felt like yall were hanging out w/each other & we just happened to be there in the background lol. Just a conversation for yall. *My toughest moment when I had to start over* was when I moved to Columbus, OH for my first role in my career. I had just ended a 3-year relationship, my brother had gone to prison & my sisters were in Montgomery acting up. Moved to a totally new state with no friends or family, feeling like I needed to stay in AL to be the “oldest” and try to get everybody back on track, plus deal with heartbreak. Felt a sense of guilt but it was a great time to focus on me, learn myself & start my career. While it was a tough start mentally & emotionally, it was necessary & I’m thankful for the growth. *My most recent starting over* was 2 weeks ago when I dislocated my left shoulder 😫🤦🏾‍♀️… back to PT & restarting my workout routine. I have to really be consistent this time around. We are really at the age where we have to focus on joint health & mobility. *Horrible nightmare:* in real life, it’s having to depend on people. It’s a balance that I know I have to have but being 100% dependent on someone doesn’t sit well with me. I never like people holding it over me or throwing it in my face when they are upset. I’d rather not put myself in that situation. *Horrible Nightmare/dream:* any dream where I’m falling or getting shot. That jerk/jump I do waking up gets me every time & getting shot in my dreams, I feel something that causes me to jump. I do try to remember them so I can look them up & see what they mean. It was great seeing your guys so relaxed and just enjoying each other! Good topic and yall are right, this “starting over” can go so many directions!

👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾 Interesting & good episode lol. I wanted to make this shorter (didn’t happen) but just take the parts yall want 😂 (bc I know yall not gonna read it all 🤷🏾‍♀️). - *Worst thing to happen to me while on a date:* got kicked out of Cheetahs bc he didn’t want to pay the dancer 😫🤦🏾‍♀️. I even offered to pay & him & the dancer were like “no”. Security came & escorted us how. His thing was “she should’ve explained how the dances & pay worked bc he didn’t know how much each song would cost”. - Yall should’ve played, “oh I think they like me” at the end lol (*I caught that Wallace lol, 2:01 mark*) - *To Brandon’s question:* it’s both parties at fault. As women, we have to stop trying to prove ourselves when these guys tell us how they feel. We are only hurting ourselves. For the man, him still entertaining her is giving her hope. If she not what you want, just cut her off. - Life after 30 was a big weight shift for me. I’ve been skinny/slim by whole life & the adult weight finally hit. *Even though I know I have to workout & eat better to maintain, so I don’t get chubby, I’ve had ppl comment in a negative & positive way.* I have an uncle that says, “Tawana, you getting fat ain’t it?” every time he sees me bc he isn’t used to seeing me anything but skinny. I had a guy call me husky (I mean, yes, I was bigger than him but not husky 😂)… then on the opposite side I have men & women, friends & strangers that love that I’ve gotten thicker & compliment me on it. Everybody has their perspective. Do what makes you confident. (Tyd_TJones on IG for reference to see if I’m chunky, fat or slim- thick 😂). - *Part 2: I have learned as we get older, our body definitely changes* so I’m learning more how stress sits on the lower belly, how my morning coffee on an empty stomach is bad & how throughout the work day, I need to get up & move around bc sitting all day not good for these joints and my body overall. Tired of getting up & shoulders, knees, hips poppin 😂🤦🏾‍♀️😫 - *Part 3: Weight of being the oldest.* As the oldest child (of 5), there has always been this weight of being the “fixer” or “savior” and responsible one for the family. My mom was a single mom, so I raised my siblings while she worked. Helped with school work, keeping everyone inline, getting a job at 16 to help & even well into my adult life still being the responsible one everyone calls. Ive learned through therapy how that transitions into other relationships with friends, significant others & even work… I’ve learned to slowly start being able to let go now that my sisters are married with kids & not having to be the “go to person” to show my value in all relationships. I’m finally learning to live for myself at this big age & it’s a big weight off of my shoulders. I appreciate being blessed to be able to be in a position to help my family & the experiences to help me grow into who I am today, even more thankful to be in this space of learning & getting to know me. #ThankYouLord - Homework #1 *You know your ppl & what their triggers are, so delivery is importantly, like Bryon mentioned.* Maybe start by asking questions & not going straight to telling them they are fat. Ask about their fitness goals, energy levels, stress levels, how are they sleeping. Give suggestions of fitness challenges (a group of friends just did a 2 mile challenge for August. We had to check in & it was the support someone’s needed to stay accountable) or if you were going to workout, ask about them joining you. And if they say no, then grab them & be liked, “look bih your back getting big” 😂😂😂… nah, don’t do that 😂😂😂. Sometimes we know we are getting bigger & it may be a mental blocker preventing ppl from taking that step or finding the motivation. - *Possible Questions Homework #2* lol: - 1. What toxic trait do you have that you don’t care to change & ppl just have to accept you for it? - What’s the worst thing you would do for a million dollars? - What’s a taboo you haven’t tried but are curious about? - What alcohol can you never drink again & what’s the story behind it?

I love that you were engaged in every segment of this talk. Definitely think one of these questions will make the show. Bro at the strip club is funny because I had the same conversation with a stripper. Why don’t they let us know what the price is. Lol naw it was just a learning lesson. The changes as we get older are life itself we have to be aware of ourselves and change and understand there is a transition or growth period but we have to change to manage the change. I always appreciate you taking the time for us.

Welcome back welcome bacccck!!! 😌 So glad you’re back at it with the foolery straight out the gate. Wallace and Brandon going back and forth warms my heart. 😂 🍿 Byron in the middle like he watching tennis. Quotable Movies. So ummmm Wallace. 🤦🏾‍♀️ when Black folks say quotable movies they only mean Black Movies 🎥 It’s an unspoken rule. 😐I’m sure V for Vendetra was a great movie at all but no Sir. Just no. 😂😂 A few of my choices -showing my age 1. Friday 2. The Color purple 3. The five heartbeats 4. New Jack City 5. Boomerang 6. Coming to America “Ain’t nobody come to see you Otis!” If you don’t know, then you’re too young. Brandon good for you going to therapy and mediating. I agree find on that works for you. It may take some time. I had an old therapist that fell asleep on me mid session on Zoom! Not because Im boring but because he was old af. Frfr 😂 I let him catch a few winks. I’m considerate like that. Lol It was the companies dime. Oh and I’m calling 🗣️ PETA on you. 🐻 lol First of all Byron stop lying… we know you GOT HOES! And not Santa Claus or garden either 🤨 He trying to be humble. He told on himself accidental and on purpose 😂 Sending prayers to your Mom on her healing and to you because that’s a hard job being a caregiving to someone. All I have to say is no matter how hard I try to keep this ish short and sweet it don’t even happen. 😐😒 I’m gonna do better this season. 🤞🏾😌✌🏾 Oh and I want more response and engagement to all of this 👆🏾this season 🤨 Good work Guys. I'm using the break you guys are on to catch up on episodes. This was a dope episode with a great first female guest! ❤‍🔥 - Imposter syndrome in black men is a topic that doesn't get much airtime. It was an eye-opener to hear a different perspective on it. - I get what Wallace said about "the job finding out what he doesn't know." In our head, we may not have all the answers or can feel people have more faith in us, than we do ourselves. Something I've learned is everybody is out here winging it lol. The confidence that we have in ourselves and that we project is what makes the difference (which I know I struggle with at times). - I'm adding "Mother Hunger" to my Audible book wishlist. Thanks, Ms. Dunn for that suggestion ⭐⭐⭐ - If we get Yolanda for a 2nd episode, I would have questions on why she mentioned "vulnerable" being a buzzword and what she thinks is really happening in our community with people black men and women being open to therapy (or if her thoughts are just about it being overused & people are trying to keep with the hype but not really about the action). Side note: it was hard to hear Yolanda at the end (after the outro). Maybe she didn't have the mic then, but her voice got really low).

And thus yall further push lies onto your kids and warp their mind to a reality that isn't true. You guys act like they should live their lives like that. It's so sad. You dint need to teach your kids race just because there might be some people who are racist... The very idea you must teach your kids things about the color of their skin in and of itself causes racism because your planting the idea that race actually matters when in reality it does not. Fatherless homes and this race lie culture is why black people as a whole can't lift themselves out of their ghetto ways.

*rubs hands together* This is a great topic. Before I listen to the answers in their entirety I believe one can lead to the other, I definitely think more times than not you have one but not the other. These may be me looking through a woman’s eyes too. This is when you have mad crazy chemistry when someone but can’t stand them at the same time because maybe you’re not compatible. In this sense it looks like a “toxic” relationship. That first initial connection, the chemistry is banging (so it seems) until other things about them suck! And I think “some” women fall for this a lot. I’ve done it - I can admit. Being around them and liking the same things, laughing, vibing and such. But chemistry is in the now, compatibility plays the long game. That’s all for now. *presses play* Edit 1 = Wallace and Brandon GTFOH initially chemical is NOT physical… 😐🙄 #stopit🤨

Chemistry & compatibility, albeit similar to each other, I would have to say that chemistry is more important (at least to me). I heard a pastor say, that you can be compatible with a demon and that hit different. Yes, chemistry is what sparks that initial flame/connection but when life begins to life (as it inevitably will) idc how many things you have in common or are compatible with, that chemistry will be needed to reignite that flame. Just my thoughts.

Things I said out loud to myself or thought to myself while watching: - naw, call the guys out on the team that wasn’t pulling their weight until Kenny joined 😂 - I was waiting to hear the little boy at the water park say, “Grandpa/ma says it all the time” 😂… on Brandon’s watermark story lol - Dang, Kenny we eat lunchables too 😂😂…. Oh, charcuterie board. Nah, I thought those just became a thing. We had lunchables after school lol - Kenny technically didn’t answer the question about if his sons can say “ninja” in the house 😂👀 - It’s dope hearing the relationship Kenny has w/his father-in-law & how he continues to learn from him (side note: can we get an update after they got the results of his son’s dyslexia? How has homework & how they teach him changed?) It’s always great to see the various dynamics, views and experiences of the guests you guys bring on! 👏🏾🖤✊🏾
