I love to record music but I rarely ever share it, in an attempt to remedy that, I've decided to start sharing some of my music here. Mostly play-along and play-through videos of original content and perhaps some covers from time to time. I hope you enjoy my music.
Quick Riffs No. 114 | Heavy Vibes on the 8 String
Here's Quick Riffs No. 114. Some more 8 string this week with more simple but groove based riffs. I like these riffs quite a bit and if I ever get the time, I'd quite like to make this into a full song at some point haha. As I say, it's all simple stuff here so there's not much else to say except I hope you enjoy this week's riffs and as usual, thank you for watching

Quick Riffs No. 113 | 8 String Grooves in F
Переглядів 165День тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 113. I was messing around with the 8 string a bit this week and I came up with a nice simple riff that I thought had a cool groove to it, so that's the first main riff here. All the riffs here are quite simple and very easy to play but they still have that mismatch in length which means the start of the riff isn't on beat 1 the second time through. I love writing riffs li...
Quick Riffs No. 112 | 7 String Riffs on the Ormsby
Переглядів 9914 днів тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 112, Not quite Death Metal this week but it is in a similar realm I'd say, just a few slightly more progressive elements maybe. I really like some of these riffs and I might come back to them at a later date to develop them further, anyway, I hope you enjoy this week's riffs and as usual, thank you for watching jjrrecording
Quick Riffs No. 111 | D Tuned 8 String Riffs
Переглядів 28721 день тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 111, you'll have to excuse the bad pun in the title, but yes, we're back on the 8 string, which is actually tuned to F but pitched down to D. It's a method I've been preferring more and more of late as it saves time retuning and I also find it preserves some of the high end aggression that comes with higher tuning/string tension. As for the riffs this week, it's all very ...
Quick Riffs No. 110 | 7 String Riffs in F Sharp
Переглядів 163Місяць тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 110. Just a short one this week as I didn't have much time to dedicate to it. Some more low tuned 7 string riffs here and I'm fairly happy with how they turned out, given my time constraints this week. I think I'll expand on these ideas in the future when I have more time but for now, I hope you enjoy this week's riffs and as usual, thank you for watching jjrrecording
Quick Riffs No. 109 | 8 String Riffs in Eb
Переглядів 154Місяць тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 109, back on the 8 string this week. Overall this is pretty simple but there is some nice syncopation in a couple of the riffs that provides a bit of interest. Aside from that it's basically just mean and heavy haha. I hope you enjoy this week's riffs and as usual, thank you for watching jjrrecording
Quick Riffs No. 108 | Dyscarnate Style Death Metal
Переглядів 127Місяць тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 108. I've been writing some more Death Metal this week and although it wasn't initially intentional, I found that the riffs here were reminding me of a mix of Enduring the Massacre/And so it Came to Pass era Dyscarnate, so I tried to continue the vibe throughout. Nothing much else to say here so I hope you enjoy this week's riffs and as usual thank you for watching jjrrec...
Quick Riffs No. 107 | Death Metal
Переглядів 283Місяць тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 107. I started writing a bit of Death Metal this morning so that's what we have here. It's been a while since I pushed the tempo north of 200bpm but after a bit of experimenting this tempo felt right for the first riff, so that's what I went with. I need more practise in this tempo range though, it took me far too long to get warmed up to this haha. Anyway, I like how the...
Quick Riffs No. 106 | More Low Tuned 7 String Riffs
Переглядів 168Місяць тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 106. I felt like writing some more with the 7 string in F sharp this week. I like the fact that even though it's 8 string territory, the 7 string still guides the writing in a different way than the 8 string would and I really enjoy the riffs it inspires. Nothing special here though, just some of the usual playing with timing/groupings to try and generate some cool groove...
Quick Riffs No. 105 | 8 String Riffs in D

Here's Quick Riffs No. 105. Back on the 8 string this week and doing some more polyrhythm stuff aiming for some interesting grooves. Nothing super complex going on here but I hope you enjoy this week's riffs and as usual, thank you for watching jjrrecording
Quick Riffs No. 104 | Low Tuned 7 String Riffs
Переглядів 1862 місяці тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 104. I felt like doing something simple this week and I thought I'd try taking the 7 string down to 8 string range for some extra heaviness. Most of the riffs here are pretty caveman-simple, with the exception of the polyrhythm section in the middle which kept throwing me off for quite a while, glad I got it though as I love how it sounds. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this we...
Quick Riffs No. 103 | 8 String Riffs in F
Переглядів 2912 місяці тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 103. I felt like playing some 8 string this week and this is what I came up with. It's got some cool polymeter groove stuff happening, definitely very much Meshuggah inspired, as most of my 8 string stuff is haha. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this week's riffs and thank you for watching jjrrecording
Quick Riffs No. 102 | Melodic Death Metal
Переглядів 2172 місяці тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 102. I got a request yesterday to do some Melodic Death Metal riffs, so here we are. I'm not super familiar with the genre, with the exception of Amon Amarth, which happens to be one of my favourite bands, so it's probably quite obvious they were the main inspiration here haha. I enjoyed doing this one, I'd love to do an album in this style if I had a vocalist/lyricist to...
Quick Riffs No. 101 | Dark Riffs with Orchestral Samples
Переглядів 1433 місяці тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 101. I felt like writing something with a bit more of a creepy/sinister vibe this week since it's halloween and I find that one of the best ways to do that, is adding orchestral samples, so that's what this is haha. I really love writing this sort of thing but I don't tend to do it that often due to the fact that it's especially time consuming to write all the extra orche...
Quick Riffs No. 100 | Death Metal Grooves in B
Переглядів 3803 місяці тому
Here's Quick Riffs No. 100. There's a nice steady groove to the first riff here and although some of it is a little bit tricky to play it's pretty simple overall. Further in, there's some playing with syncopation in the triplets which I always find tricky for some reason but it sounds cool though haha. There's also a triplet gallop in 5s over a 4/4 back beat in the breakdown bit that I really l...

thank you \m/
I just discovered this channel, absolutely love riffs like this! Amazing stuff Edit: 0:44 is the best part, it rocks hard
Thanks very much, I appreciate that \m/
Fire🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼🔥
Thank you \m/
Love your playing style! Do you have your gear set up posted anywhere?
Thank you, my setup is really simple, just the guitar through a Scarlett 2i2 straight into Logic and I mostly use Neural plugins, that's it basically haha
@jjrrecording Awesome! I'll check the Neural out! Any favorite presets on there?
@@PhillipMorgan-o7j I did this song with the 'As I Am' preset in Archetype Petrucci, that's one of my favourites. I really like Archetype Nolly and Archetype Gojira too but all the Neural plugins sound excellent in my opinion
@ I will check those out! Thank you for your input. Looking forward to your future videos 😊
@jjrrecordingsomething else I was wondering, the great drum tracks you use, are you writing the beat with a program? I’d like to get the same style drum tracks behind my original riffs
👍
Love it
Thanks dude \m/
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks \m/
I think at this point, you're just doing this to make me feel bad about myself. I can't get any riffs together that I'm happy with, while you've now posted 112. This sounds awesome!
Haha thanks dude. It isn't always easy but I do think it's a skill that can be practised. I know how frustrating it is to have a creative block/not be able to come up with anything you like, but I've found it happens less frequently the more time you spend writing. Even if you don't like the end result, the process of finishing off an idea is beneficial in and of itself. I hope you get past the difficulties \m/
Jeff Loomis Vibes
Thanks very much \m/
What strings are you using?
NYXL 10-80 most of the time for the 8 string, sometimes a lighter gauge if I'm not tuning as low
@jjrrecording 10-80s for drop e?
@@pho5phoros Yeah, for me that's the perfect sort of range for 10-80
DADADGBE is my fav tuning for 8 string, though I'm more inclined to post-metal / doom like Obscure Sphinx myself. Yours sounds nice as well though
Thank you, that's an interesting tuning, I'll have to try that out. I'll have a listen to Obscure Sphinx, not heard them before
Sounds sick. 🔥🔥
Thanks dude \m/
💪💪💪
Thank you \m/
What Drum VST is this? Sick tune and playin bro!
Thanks very much, this is mostly OKW Metal with a small amount of kick and snare from OKW Architects blended in for some extra beef haha, OKW Metal does sound great on it's own though
String gauge?
10-80 for this one
🔥
Thank you \m/
Fire af 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks dude \m/
What gauge strings are you using? I may need to restring the 7! Love the riff, man.
Thanks dude, I can't remember exactly what gauge are on it just now, but I think it's around .72 for the low string
Excellent, as always!
Thanks dude, appreciate the support \m/
Great job!! Keep it up brother 🤘🏼🔥🔥🤘🏼
Thanks very much \m/
Great job! 🔥💪🔥
Thank you \m/

Thanks dude \m/
Very nice 👌
Thank you \m/
Great tone great riffs, i like that sort of "bonking" sound! really tight dude 🤘
Thanks very much, I appreciate that \m/
What is the string gauge if you don't mind sharing? Sounds awesome and heavy af. I've put .90 on mine tuned down to D1. It sits well and doesn't flop around but it's very woofy sounding and I wonder if it's just the way I'm dialing it in or if I need a thinner string with less bass frequencies that get in the way.
Thank you, I had a set of .80 on here but they were far too loose in C so I actually tuned to D and then pitched it down with the Neural transpose function. I know exactly what you mean with the tone getting woofy with thicker strings, that's why lately I've been preferring lighter gauges but pitching it down, that seems to help preserve the aggression in the tone and makes it easier to avoid that excessive low end
💪👏
Nice
Thank you
Sick af 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks very much \m/
What’s ur favorite tuning of all time
That's a hard one to answer haha. I change my mind a lot on that. I really like low tunings for the ominous/dark sound they have but I like higher tunings a lot because they tend to be more aggressive sounding. It's a different answer depending on how many strings but if I had to choose only one tuning forever, it would probably be B standard 7 string, I think it's the perfect middle ground. Do you have a favourite?
@ nice, I’m really into metalcore right now so my fav is probably drop d
@@notcomedic4799 cool, drop tunings are fun, nice way to change things up and generate different ideas
Fire af 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks dude \m/
💪👏
thanks \m/
Nice!!! 🎸👍 Like the low tuned stuff! It never gets old! So, what string gauge do you usually use for drop F#? 🤔🎸
Thank you, for tuning down this low I use a set of 13-62 with a 72 for the F sharp. It's not drop tuned though, just 5 steps down from standard. For time saving though I'm starting to prefer the transpose function in the Neural plugins, it works so well it just saves the hassle of changing strings all the time haha
Sounds villainous 🔥🔥
Haha, thanks \m/
I feel my sacral third eye chakra opening 😂
haha
Pure awesomeness man! 🔥🤘 Subbed!
Thanks very much, I really appreciate it \m/
Awesome riffs!!!
Thank you
Damn that was clean and very interesting! You sound like the next Mick Gordon lol
Thank you haha, that's a very flattering comparison \m/
💪💪💪
Thanks dude \m/
Please upload these to spotify, I've got a couple djent playlist I'd love to add them too.
Thanks, I'll have to look into getting that set up, been meaning to do it for a while now haha
@jjrrecording i and i think every other independent producer uses distrokid. It also uploads to basically every music streaming site.
damn you should make a band, your riffs are amazin c:
Thanks very much, I'd love to have a band, but unfortunately due to remote location it's not practical
Dude, love it! 💪
Thanks dude \m/

Thanks haha \m/

That original pick up ?
Yeah, just the stock pick ups
@ ohh that’s cool !
@@beersingha161 Yeah, I think they sound great for stock pick ups
very black tongue esque
Thank you, I really need to give them a proper listen
the bass is perfectly mixed with the guitar
Thank you
make a full song, very meshuggah
Thanks, that's definitely on the to-do list
nasty riffs bro fantastic job
