Fly with me into Dulles Intl - a Class Bravo and DC SFRA Airport
Come along with me on my approach into Dulles Internaltional KIAD in my homebuilt experimental airplane called a Cozy MKIV. Dulles is a class Bravo Airport which also happens to be inside the DC SFRA. It was personally my first time flying into either, but it ended up being pretty simple!

Are Pulse Oximeters Accurate in Flight?
Переглядів 942Рік тому
I take the cozy up to 7,500 ft on a cross country to test out my pulse oximeter to find out what my blood oxygen saturation is. I ended up seeing 91%, is that accurate? I want to hear your experience with these fingertip pulse ox readers in flight.

Removing Backlash from a Mixture Cable
Переглядів 8002 роки тому
My aircraft's throttle and mixture cables have a little bit of play in them. In this video, I come up with and execute a plan for removing that play out of the mixture cable, making it easier to set an accurate mixture on my lycoming engine. This is especially important for lean of peak operations, where very slight control changes are necessary to hit those target fuel flows. Bonus: severe thu...
A Baffling Problem with my Experimental Aircraft
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
Trying to improve the cooling of my experimental aircraft engine by solving little baffle issues one at a time. I have one piece of baffling that continues you blow out at high cowl pressures. This usually happens during high speed descent and low altitude race mode flying. In this video, I attempt to remedy the situation by replacing and adjusting the soft baffle. A cooler engine is a faster e...

5 Reasons you should NOT install wheel pants
Переглядів 4,6 тис.2 роки тому
I'm going to give you 5 great reasons why wheel pants are literally the worst thing you can do to your experimental aircraft. Then, like and idiot, I go on to show you how to install wheel pants. I cover clecos, riveting, mounting, and quarter turn fastener installation.
I flew there a bunch of times in the 1980's and other than the fees being way cheaper, the Bahamians were not checking anything other than what you mentioned back then either! Forget the english speaking and radio license. Your N Number has to be 12" tall. I taped one on with black electrical tape. The US customs will check the $35 decal tho and make you buy one on returning to the US. Don't go to a Bahamian farm or bring back flowers, wood products, or plants. Lobsters are ok! I went to a Coast Guard seminar... If your flight plan says you have a life jacket they will search for you for 24 hours. If you have a life raft, a week.
Great simple explanation of what the alternator does. Thanks!
Stall resistant not proof.
Or perhaps , stall assist "under good conditions " in how it bobs to indicate and gently self correct straight and level at fixed stall speed. Still requires nose down to recover from Bob.
This FCC license is ridiculous. whats the fine for not having it?
I didn’t hear a Clear Prop.
Great video
Dear Russ, can you share some links where can someone buy the plans? Material costs and where to start from. Thanks
great air plane but 39hrs a week for 3 years, plus making a living? really?
you can get a "ups" to mitigate that
Please can get your contact number please😢😢😢😢
Please can I have your contact number🙏🙏
Please can I get your contact
Nice on Russ! 😂 🚀
Ive been wanting to build my own home built
Is there a gas station
CONGRATS... Built one Vans RV4 and RV7. I would not do one of these as it takes x3 as long to build but I still respect it. Nice work. Fly Safe...
Get Igen G5 or G6 oxygen concentrator like Martin Pauley uses. It will meet the needs of 2 people. We tend to keep our mouth shut which reduces available air. Opening your mouth doesn't replace a concentrator. Using one will leave you less fatigued.
Load it up with your wife and other luggage.
Great video! And awesome Oshkosh 2020 shirt. We don't have that particular one but a lot of other 2020 gear.
Bro if you don't mind can you go to a trip ✈️... With long video no cut no nothing😢
Yeah I think this is a good idea, what are you looking for exactly? The process or how the instruments work or something else?
@@russroams hmm..i like long trip going with family is my favorite part... No cut no nothing else bro I will love to see the sky the mountains the water etc I will wait for that long trip video bro notify me ❤❤❤❤.. You deserve a subscribe 😇❤
Epic work mate!! How much did the whole thing cost in the end?
Curious ? Seats how many ? HOw is noise in cockpit ? Can you put heat in it? Can you put De-icing on it? How much luggage ? General Cost of all material for build ?
Incredible video and workmanship.
I've always loved these airplanes. @4:03, why is it backwards? Also efficiency. A traditional stabilizer in the rear generates downforce, which the main wing must compensate with more lift. That means more AoA and induced drag. With the stabilizer in the front, both surfaces generate lift and there is no extra downforce that must be compensated.
Wow you built an airplane from scratch and it only took you 5 years. I built from a kit and it took me 5 years. Congratulation
in my opinion the soft baffle should sit on the inside of the baffling as that's where the pressure is, to contain the air inside and force it over the cylinders...
Magnificent exhibition Russ. I treasure the flight I had with you, and I'm building, building!
make sure your insurance is paid up!
Pah-pah is what ATC sometimes used to P. Yeah, annoying.
New sub. I've been flying that airspace for about 10 years. I'm now based at VKZ in the FRZ. I flew out of IDA for a short time in the 80s. Loooooooonnnnggg runways for a 172.
What a journey. I’ve got 200 hours in a 172-SP G1000, and if it weren’t for the cost that’d be 2000 hours. …I do have a garage 🤔
Great video and nice summary, though I think the only thing you missed is the C7A cruising permit that you need to obtain for a private aircraft to enter The Bahamas. It’s a $50 fee and can be obtained online just like eAPIS. Once you arrive and clear customs at an airport of entry in The Bahamas, they will exchange the C7A for the transire that you referenced which will then allow you to fly freely around The Bahamas. Looks like you’re having a nice time in Cat Island - enjoy!!
,wonder if the drug smugglers done all that😂
Traffic 1:00 traffic in sight.
What's Your budget or how much did it Cost? Hopefully you respond
I'm pretty handy with tools and mechanical work. But I don't have those kind of skills, well done.
Looks like a quality build you have there. I think it is a misnomer that the main wing cannot stall. If you loose the engine, you’ll need to land as soon as possible. If you loose too much airspeed, the main will deep stall and it is unrecoverable, unfortunately.
Thank you! A per-plans canard will always stall before the main wing at any airspeed (as long as the CG is within the envelope) This reduces angle of attack and will never allow the main wing to reach a stall condition. Doesn’t matter how fast or slow you are or if the engine is running or not. It’s a beautiful design that removes one of the biggest dangers in GA
Wire looked straight. Maybe have a slight bend to relax the tension
Does it have tiedown points to secure it outdoors?
What is your consumption , speed at 75% in 7k ft? Thanks for the videos
Great video Russ....hope to join one of these in the spring....
I WANT ONE. WHAT DO I DO TO START BUILDING IT
damn. I was just there last summer!
So impressive!
Stall resistant
Great video bud, thank you for spelling it out for us, definitely looking forward to flying there
Hi Russ, Love you videos and explanations. Finding your channel, and a few others about the CO-Z has sparked my imagination again! As far as your alternator ring terminal, since this video is a year old, I don't know if you came up with an alternative solution. The only suggestion I have is to use a copper battery lug terminal which they have in 10 & 12GA. They are really beefy and should take fatigue better. I don't know about the availability of crimping tools for them, but they must be out there, or you may already have one. Take care and have fun flying your Cozy!
Cool video. I built a Cozy Mark IV but I literally got anxious watching because it seems like an absurd amount of work and time. Congratulations and good luck with it. -Rob
This plane is a 1970’s design. The technology has come a long way since then. A modern version could be built in 2024, in a matter of weeks, with 99% less sanding and finishing.
@@davidwebb4904 Name a composite airplane that can be built in weeks.
@@2Phast4Rocket Currently in production? None that I know of. However if a few people groupfunded, then yes, it can be done. A Cozy Mk V for the 21st century

I think that is the best explanation I have heard for the canard
