Gardening 2024
We have almost always done a small garden over the years, but this year now that Jeff has more time on his hands, he wanted to plant carrots and peas so we did. Wow, they did so well! I've always had trouble growing big or straight carrots, but apparently Jeff has the touch! We did a couple experimental crops this year too. I get a lot of joy out of planting a garden and watching things grow. This year we even tried succession planting which was a great success! Now that it's fall and quickly getting close to frost time, we are ready to be done with the garden too. Just enough break over the winter to be ready to start again in the spring!

Alpine Loop Cascade Springs
Переглядів 3219 годин тому
At the start of this day trip, as we entered the canyon, we were a little worried we had gone too early to see much fall colors. Nope, it was fabulous. This day trip took us about 5 hours total. We are an hour and a half from the canyon, then the trip through the canyon took about 3 hours with two stops at Cascade Springs. The road in the canyon is narrow and with lots of twists and turns. The ...
Death Valley NP Sept 2024
Переглядів 8414 днів тому
We took a couple of days to explore Death Valley. We went in mid September so it was hot, but not crazy hot. We loved the landscape and the variety of scenery available. From sand dunes to cliffs to smooth desert plants. It was beautiful.
Parowan Gap Sept 2024
Переглядів 31121 день тому
This is a quick detour off I-15 in Parowan Utah. The whole trip took us about 1/2 hour. The gap is about 15 minutes off the freeway. We probably could have spent a little more time and found more petroglyphs, but it's hot in southern Utah in September! One nice thing about this detour is you can get off the freeway in one spot and make a loop further along the freeway so you don't really lose m...

This was a road trip that took us 6 days. We visited Idaho Falls ID, Butte MT, Kalispell MT, Glacier NP, Great Falls MT, Gardiner MT, Yellowstone NP, Grand Teton NP and Afton WY. It was a lot of driving, but the scenery was fabulous! Lots of places to stop along the way to break up the drive. This trip we had my sister and her husband with us on the trip. We drove in separate cars so we could a...
Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Late Summer
Переглядів 23Місяць тому
Northern Utah shares it's space with the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. We spent about 3 hours here and decided we'd come back at different times of the year and at different times of the day to see the diversity of birds using this area as a stop over. No crowds when we were there, the weather was great for us and the birds didn't disappoint. We aren't professional photographers, so taking ...
Fort Buenaventura Ogden UT

We've lived near here almost all of our lives yet have never been! We've driven past thousands of times. So today was the day! This little tranquil spot is in the heart of West Ogden near the baseball park. The visitor center was closed on Monday (the day we visited). This site hosts a world class frisbee golf course. There were several people there taking advantage of this sport. The fort gate...
Tremonton UT Wall Art Murals
Переглядів 222 місяці тому
Tremonton Utah wall art murals. This small town sits right near the Utah/Idaho border. It's a small farming community with a flare for art! This was a quick day trip for us, but was a fun adventure. The link below is a printable copy of the walking tour map of the murals. There were some we couldn't find and a few that we in bad disrepair so those photos didn't make the cut. A nice casual after...
Silver Reef Utah

This is a historic site near Leeds Utah, about a half hour north of St George. We didn't have high hopes for this day trip, but were pleasantly surprised. There is a small museum here with information and helpful staff. They provided us a brochure showing a walking tour that took maybe an hour. The pathways were groomed and gravel paved. Slight inclines, but nothing too strenuous. Total walking...
Driving Utah's I 15
Переглядів 312 місяці тому
The drive between Salt Lake City and St George Utah can be long and a bit boring. No worries, we found some fun stops for quick stops along the way. Scipio is a quick gas stop with a fun petting zoo. The animals available seems to change a lot and was sparse this trip, but at other times there were more animals. Perhaps the summer heat is too much for them. Cove Fort is a historic site with tou...
GoldenSpike Historical Monument June 2024

Trains! Promontory point or Goldenspike National Historic Park. Located near the Utah/Idaho border. This is a relatively small park, but I recently found out there was more to it than I originally thought. There are two auto tours with walking trails and historic markers to explore the area more. They are the East tour and West tour. More information is located on the website or at the visitor ...
Joshua Tree, Seven Magic Mountains, Pioneertown Road Trip
Переглядів 303 місяці тому
This was our first road trip after being fully retired. It was a relatively short one. 3 days total. We made stops at Seven Magic Mountains in southern Las Vegas; Baker, CA to see the tallest thermometer; Barstow, CA for lunch at the Train Depot McDonalds, then to Pioneertown, CA. This was a fun stop. It's not an original pioneer town, but was made by Hollywood movie makers to film old westerns...

Moapa NV Warm Springs Save the Moapa Dace
Переглядів 253 місяці тому
This is one of my favorite places to go for a quick couple of hours of an adventure. If you come visit us when we are in Nevada, odds are I will suggest going here if we have a couple spare hours. This is a conservancy project area to preserve the endangered Moapa Dace. Apparently this is the only place on planet Earth they are found and they nearly went extinct. The area was used as a recreati...
Ogden Nature Center June 2024
Переглядів 203 місяці тому
This was a quick day trip to the Ogden, Utah Nature Center. It was an easy outing right in the middle of civilization. Located on the west end of 12th Street in Ogden close to I-15. We spent about an hour and half there. We didn't see it all and figured we'd save more for another day. Flat walking surfaces could probably accommodate wheelchairs, but the pathways are gravel and sandy so may be a...

They’ve added fences recently so no climbing around to see them all anymore but probably a good move to preserve them!

Quite a bit different scene from the 150th anniversary of the driving of the golden spike out there on May 10th, 2019. It was very crowded with over 23,000 people out there. In your view from about :41 to 1:03, the fields in the background, from the near sagebrush to where the hills started, far off, were probably close to 10,000 vehicles! It was pretty nuts out there. I'm glad I can say I was there on that anniversary, but I don't ever want to be there with that many people again. I'll be 95-years old when the 200th anniversary rolls around, so I guess I won't be able to make it. Your experience was more normal and enjoyable.

I can't even imagine that many people there! The roads aren't big! You need to make another trip there when you can actually enjoy the visit. I gather you enjoy everything trail related, have you tried the Ogden Union Station? You can even climb on the trains there.

@@TimeOnOurHands-Francis Oh yes, I have been to Ogden Union Station a couple of times. They do have some amazing pieces in their collection. And I have been to the Golden Spike park 3 times. I love it much better without the huge crowds. On those "normal" days when there are fewer visitors, it is much easier to imagine what the area was like in 1869, plus to enjoy the locomotives and the exhibits. I'd love to go back to both places. Thanks for your recommendations. 🤠👍
