Inspite of the heat of the South Carolina summer, I dig down to the bones of our kitchen in our 1921 caftsman style house. In order to make everything striaght and level alot of framing needs to be redone, so let's pull out the old before bringing in the new. As near as I can tell, the kitchen was put in an area that was once a porch, so alot of the framing was poorly done. Not only am I bringi...

Good video
What’s the name of glue products please
The filon is glued on with a product by 3M called: 1357
good video
Your hatch spar (the spar that you will attach the hatch hinge to) is how far from the bottom of your galley? 48" since it's the width of the luan?
You should have put it on the floor to roll out the bubbles, you need a very stable surface and your table looks undersized
It would be nice to know what county and Township this is in
So the outer walls are just glued to the inner walls, no fasteners? I need to replace the outer walls on my motorhome, and I'm very apprehensive about taking on such a huge project. Any input would be great.
I have the same van. It came with plywood over the top. And it was split like 2.5 foot and 1.5 foot. I bought bi mart plastic shelving. I think it said it was rated at 200lb per shelf. I put plywood on top of the 2.5 foot section and made a nice bench. I don't drive it much anymore as gas prices make me drive a small car. But, I always wondered about what was under the metal. Thank you. If i had your measurements, I would be cutting the aluminum today. I had a flat once and it was a pain to lower the tire, so I keep it in the back, wonder if I could fit it in one of these seat compartments? I carry a racing jack and like to change a tire fast, as you know lookie loos like to crash into you. I hate the lowering tire thing they have, especially if I were on a busy hwy. Thanks for the video. My van has been a bit of $$ for repairs, but overall, it gets great mpg for a van that acts like a truck. I even got 29 mpg with some tablets in the tank a friend gave me. I think i want to get a small trailer to see how she does with the loaded back suspension and radiator on the tranny. Great little camper van. I only wish I wasn't so tall so I could slouch in the back instead of just lying down.
PS I had to cut the shelving plastic poles to make it so the bed wasn't so tall. I store stuff under the shelf. If you ever thought of using it for camping or shelf storage.
When my high school was being rebuilt, someone did the very same thing. It caused half of the new auditorium burn down
Looks great! What kind of wood did you use for the bulk of the galley? Like the cabinets, countertop, bulkhead etc. Did you put any sort of protective coating on the wood?
That's a really good idea
Can you send me those measurements
go to OregonBatman youtube channel. I got my plans from him. He will sell you a full set of plans
Where do you get these particular regulators from? I'm going to switch my lawn equipment over one at a time and want to do it right the first time rather than destroy an engine. Or my shop 😄
The regulators shown are cobras made by Century Fuels. I have since changed them to Impco Cobra-P which is exactly the same but has a primer button which makes it easier to start. They weren’t available originally. These are commonly used on things like forklifts but they actually work really well on small engines. I generally get them from Century Fuels or Carb and Turbo but there are probably other places as well
Can you glue filing to foam?
No. The adhesive needed is a high solvent and it would melt the foam.
No. The adhesive needed has high solvents in it and it would melt the foam.
Great to have you back on the air. Good thing the safety man wasn't there to see you installing header by yourself. But sometimes we have to make do!! Keep it coming.
doing what I gotta do! Thanks Bob
Looks great 😊
Thank you! 😊
How did you go with your doors, did the manufacturer fix the problem?
I put a huge trash bag well ahead and behind the door. I tuck it all the way under the mattress. Over that, I tuck a huge beach towel. I've never had the water leave the towel but it has leaked every time I've driven in the rain.
Whenever you’re fitting something that’s protecting something from weather, use a sealant with it, even a small bead of clear general silicon with the rubber seals. Nice setup mate 👍🏽
great video I to just did this to my 2000 ford explorer, like the metal guard the best hard to push in and hard to be cut with a knife mine fits in the window channel and squeezed the open end to fit snug atop the window didn't like the wide width so cut mine 2" wide less noticeable so when the window is rolled up it snugs up really tight and sturdy although the plastic is used in some of these videos I felt they were less secure and decided to use the metal one and man I'm glad I went with my instinct on this one🤔
how Rainproof is this?
Not really rain proof. It only keeps bugs and people out.
I always put two coats of adhesive on the wood. The adhesive can really soak into the wood and give you an adhesive starved surface.
I recently picked up a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan GT and removed the 2nd and 3rd row seats from it. I've used some thin plywood (3/32" x 48" x48" in the rear to make a hinged access panel to the storage area. The front area is about 2" lower than the rear but I've leveled a 48" x 72" sleeping platform with legs of different lengths and have about 16".5" high space underneath to the floor level with nothing built above the stock seat access at the front. So, I have lots of space and can still slide in a 4'x8' sheet of plywood if I take the platform out. That platform is made of heavy-duty plastic storage shelving and it can be removed in about a minute (and transferred to a tent, etc.). I'm very happy so far with the system I've worked out for camping. I like the C/V version but IIRC, the cargo vans lack all the remote door and rear hatch functions. With my GT version, it is great to be able to just push a button from the inside (and outside) to open the side doors and rear hatch, or start the vehicle remotely including from inside when in the back. Makes crawling out of bed easier when camping. Am I correct in assuming the C/V version only has manual doors and no remote start?
Hi Joseph, yes you are correct, no bells or whistles in the C/V. I've done a lot of van camping in a Toyota Sienna. I think it is one of the best ways to camp and travel. It sounds like you have a nice set up. Thanks for watching and sharing - Steve
I personally dont like the look of the baseboard cut this way when bull nose corners are used. I would rather just standard 45 degree corners, and fill in the top void with a good job of caulk. I am a builder, and that is how i did my own house.
=Home owner hack :)
Hi how are you I hope you’re doing well, I noticed you put the fan above the door is there any particular reason why you put it there instead of in the middle? I guess it doesn’t really matter. Just wanted to ask you that question and I appreciate all your videos and the process that you went through to film all these videos I know it takes a lot of time so we really appreciate that. Thank you.
Simply answer: I put a solar panel on the roof. I had to have the fan to one side for the panel to fit. Thanks for watching!
Did it work?
You know that is trespasing some have been shot doing that !!!
Hmmm, the buildings are owned by my mother-in-law and I have never seen her with a gun...🤔
Dude said the houses are owned so his title is a lie.. these are not abandoned.
Great job
what track is that. or the channel? Amazon or something?
Just saw your latest short about your family addition. That's the way it usually happens! One starts with a small trailer then moves up to a little more room and comfort and soon you have a full RV. Nice to see you back on.
We are planning that the travel trailer is only a temporary thing. We will be moving into the house in January, but need a kitchen and a quiet space as an office for LaVon. After the rest of the house is done we will sell the trailer. Good to hear from you Bob.
The rural ND school house my Mom attended is still standing, roof intact, but minus windows & doors, floor very rotten. ---This was special, thank-you.
Update ? How is your Ram tradesman C/V working out after 2 years after modification video…. I am considering one of these.
It is doing just fine. Only things that broke: brake pedal light actuator, and all the motor mounts. It has over 170k on it. I would consider a bigger van now for pulling bigger trailers. Otherwise it is taking care of my needs.
My dad's family is from North Dakota ( rolette) the Lunde family.
So sad we should be preserving these pieces of history.
Excellent job!
I noticed that the gutter guards have a screen on them now, hopefully I will be making mine soon. Thanks for the video.
Nice joint. Thanks for the video. I've done untold thousands of these bullnose base corners as a trim carpenter. Three decades and untold thousands made me pretty good at these. I tried many techniques including using a ijg like yours, and also a jig with just one miter. I've done so many of these I just mark the first long piece in place by eye, cut and install. Mark the shorty in place also by eye. Cut and install. Then measuring to the long point on the shorty, cut and install. And that final miter on the third piece is 25 not 22.5 so the joint stays closed on the front. If things aren't perfectly lined up I persuade the joints into good alignment with my hammer. I can really boogie on these bullnose corners, both paint AND stain work. Took me a LOT of corners to do the bullnose boogie. lol Definitely enjoyed your video. Thanks again.
Please don't make your viewers DEF No need to shock with overly loud intro music. Not nice!
Oh my goodness Steve! I literally shrieked with fear when you were under the house, those spider webs. Kevin Laughed his head off at me. A warm hello from all us here.
Glad to see you are making good progress on this renovation. Will you be renovating roof line on the porch area? Looking good Russ
Big Job Steve. Lots of hard work progress is being made Minot, ND
Appreciate all you’ve done in spite of the hot weather . Thanks for the up date. Love , Mom
Great to see you back on. Missed part 3 but now found it. Seeing the single wire and porcelain insulators takes me back to childhood days and replacing fuses. Arizona misses you and Lavon.
Good to hear from you Bob! Fortunately all the electricity has been upgraded already, old wire is just sitting there. Say hello to everyone for me.
Hi Steve - great build! I too have issues with the doors (Challenger - now Lippert?) leaking but only while driving. It seems the hydraulic pressure or the cabin being so tight permits this - considering your tests (stationary - still leaked) I am very curious if the vent addressed the issue? Also, the gutter molding used - can you provide a link? Our build was 2019 with limited travel (Covid) until recently and I am trying to perfect it. I am also a fellow NH person not far from you and would really appreciate advice/experience if you solved it. Ray
Hi Ray, I don't believe the cabin being right causes the leaks. Adding the vent didn't change anything. It is a faulty design, others have told me they got the distributor to replace them. I got my moldings from the same place I got the doors. Let me look it up...

@@RinconSteve Thank you Steve. I crafted a "hood scoop" mounted facing the back that "should" create a small negative pressure (like a venturi) and prevent the water from building in the drain slot. It is a simple 3/4" aluminum tube cut at an angle so it is about 2" long and I'll be testing with the hose followed by a road trip in a week or so. If I could post a photo I would - it looks fine and blends into the door well.
I recently bought a 2013 Ram C/V, love it. Chrysler offered two floor options, one that has doors for the below floor access. I'd check your spare, mine had about two shovelfuls of sand in the spare tire.
Jeff thanks for the heads up. I've used my spare a few times already. I would drive down an alley in Tucson to get to my shop, and would get flats often. I do think the first time I used it, it did have a lot of crap up in there.
Mexico has world class dentistry.. Im in the middle of getting 5 implants I got a sinus lift and bone grafting 2 weeks ago and it went very smooth.
Beautiful door and thank you for the caution. My son just lost his three bay garage, two cars inside, an apartment built above the garage and of course everything on the interior. He had spilt linseed oil, clean it up with a rug and place the rugs to go out with the trash, 2 1/2 hours later those rugs combusted and the garage was on fire. 🔥 Pp
you used pressure elbows on drain, you need to use drain fittings and prime the connections.
Hello Steve! A few questions for you from a potential van dweller.... this video mentions different suspension and braking components, have you had trouble finding replacement parts? One of the advantages of the Grand Caravan is that there were millions produced and there are tons of replacement parts out there. Would negate some of the benefits of the cargo version if parts were hard to find. With the stiffer suspension and an empty load, do you find the ride harsh? Many thanks for the content!
Hey Anti, no trouble finding parts, yet. It is a stiff ride, but it doesn't bother me, it is kind of like driving a truck.
