Hello! I'm working on putting together my own 2.4 pro from fysetc and I'm running into issues with flashing the SB CAN, I've been going through their github with little success, was wondering if you had a good resource for info or walkthroughs?
I consider myself as an amateur 3d printer guy, My first printer i built was a pruse, second prusa was prebuilt and the third is an X1c from bambu, My strength and interest has always been material profiles tuning them to perfection! My least interesting thing has been software. As I understand all my machines are based on legacy Marin and not klipper, would this project work on marlin or why is it that most fun projects depends on the printer running klipper? Great video and very interesting project!
Hi. Have you finished building it?
I did but due to issues outside of my control the brand partnership finished, There will be some trident build streams coming up very soon.
Once again open source simply is better than closed source. I think this thing gives Bambu and Creality a run for their money
I noticed u have a 5 spool but the release is 4. Does that mean there will be options to add more for one printer? Similar to Bambu labs?
There is indeed.
@ would you be able to elaborate on what kind of config? Only 4 rolls and you must build another box turtle to have total 8? Or will it be like the ercf and be able to add as many as you like
@@lamvu6185 As it stands every 4 needs another AFC Lite board, but other than that yes its like ERCF in that you can infinately add more. Mine was a beta unit so didn't use an AFC Lite board, it was a totally custom electronics suite missing some important features in order to get 5 spools working. It's since been rebuilt using an LDO Kit at 4 Spools
what hotend are you using?
On this video the Rapido 2+ UHF.
Why not let klipper calculate colourchange so it can change while printing infill so it can continu printing , saving lot of timeand maybe a small bit of dualcolour but is in print itself as infill ?!
This is all defined at the slicer level and is out of scope of this video but very possible.
are you going to post somewhere how you added the fifth lane? I am genuinely interested in this project, but my sv08 still has a warranty on it, and the only other printer I have is a stock ender 3 pro. I may try to put klipper on the ender, but don't have a lot of money (even the price of the BT is high for me). Any suggestions?
The 5th lane isn't something i wish to support, its essentially just a bigger frame and +1 to all of the lane components, the controller was a nightmare as so far there are no plans to release an official 5 lane board, which means you need 2 of the $75 boards to run the BoxTurtle and a whole load of effort working on the configs.
Can you share your full model? Would love to make the it with the 5 spools!
The skirts etc are in My github, the 5th lane is just print an extra and pop it on the end (and longer extrusions of course).
@@makermylo Thnx! Did you also modded the 4way bowden hub to a 5 way hub?
It seems that the difference between the BT and the ERCF is that the BT has a separate extruder for each filament, and maybe one more to feed the filament to the printer, while the ERCF moves a single extruder between rolls of filament. More complexity to save some money on extruders. The ERCF has options for filament cutter at the MMU or at the printer. What I don't understand is how do you automate this when most printers require holding a spring loaded tension bar on the extruder while loading the filament? Unless you can push filament into an extruder without pressing on the tension release IF you run the extruder motor at the same time. I've never tried that. It looks like the Prusa MMU is similar to the ERCF in design.
The simple answer is that it does extruder sync 100% of the time, the extruder and the extruder on the toolhead work together to ensure constant feed on the filament. It's more expensive to build than an ERCF but a LOT easier to build and use for sure. As for cutters, I designed 'Snappy' which is a fork of EREC from the ERCF Repo, this works brilliantly as a remote cutter on the BoxTurtle itself, otherwise the current standard is to use the Filametrix cutter at the toolhead.
Hello. I will be building one soon. Why question for you is what board / electronics are you using for the 5 spool setup as well a the 5 port hub stl? Nice build also btw!
Please change the music. Looping the same song 8 times over and over is painful lol. i think we would all just prefer to hear the natural sounds of the printer =]
all it needs is an active drying enclosure
This was so much fun, subbed for more updates!
This is super interesting. Do you believe this "could" work on a rooted Creality K1, if using a customised print head that includes a cutter?
You wouldn't even need a toolhead cutter, as long as you can plug a USB or CAN into the mainboard for the OS to see and run Virgin Klipper you can run the BoxTurtle, the only thing you NEED on the toolhead is a filament sensor.
@@makermylo Thankfully Henlor has already created an easy Toolhead Runout sensor mod. But this is great to hear. Depending on what the K1 CFS Upgrade from Creality will cost, this could very well be a great alternative. Thanks for the info.
if i use another board like bigtreetech octopus or mellow fly 8 which motor driver i can use to control the n20 motor?
Only the official AFC Board is supported as it's needed for the bi-directional N20 motors, those don't use steppers just 6v +/-.
"Filamentalist required a huge footprint, and dedicated space above the printer" It doesn't need to be above, it also doesn't need to be dedicated. But...this takes up the same footprint as 5 filamentalists. And it looks like you actually need dedicated space above the printer. Actually the footprint for this is larger the more I look at it... That said, I'll still build it...they know we are addicted to building stuff instead of making new stuff. And still use my 20 filamentalists, my ECRFs.
The upgrade never enddddd😭😭😭😭😭
How comes your unit has five spools but the picture in the link shows a unit with 4 spools? If I want five spools do I need to buy all the extras separately or is their a five spools kit? I would much prefer to buy a reliable kit than to source all the parts individually myself. Thanks for the video btw.
There isn't (And probably will never be) official support for more than 4 Spools, mine was a custom build way-back in beta, there is however nothing stopping you from buying a 2nd AFC Board to run the 5th Lane.
What board did you use? The afc only has space for 4 motors. Keen to know how you got the fifth working ?
I didn’t use the AFC this one was built before AFC was a thing, it uses a Spider 3 board.
@makermylo thank you ! I just bought all the bom parts and will build one in the near few weeksm.ideally i would like 6 spools but will start with 4 and expand later
@@makermylo Would you mind sharing your config for the Spider 3 Board? Great work and Video
@@martinj2008 My configs are all here, however i don't run the standard software, mine is running on HappyHare so its all completely non-standard and I won't be supporting it im afraid but heres the link: github.com/MakerMyloConfigs/v24_scarlet
What is the dimensions of your unit with 5 lanes?.Just want to see if the 5 lane version would fit on top of my v2 300.Thanks
490mm with just 5 lanes, Or 510mm for my setup (designed to fit ontop of my 350 V2 perfectly) i added 5mm spacers between the lanes. I doubt you'd get 5 in a 300 v2 footprint.
BoxTurtle is now in open beta, and LDO kits are now available for pre-order from many popular Voron vendors!
Coming to the channel VERY soon is an official unboxing :P
Why not try to make it like the ams lite which is more reliable
its not 'like' the AMS, just shares its formfactor.
Does it require any firmware changes in klipper or is it just gcode changes?
There is additional software for it yes.
And do you have a stl for the basket the pi is in? I could use one for the pi and u2c board
Im afraid not anymore :( it's been a long time!
Could you make a video on how to go can bus on the neptune? Flashing the firmware to the boards etc.
how about multi-toolhead (any type including mixed cnc and laser with extruders) instead of one print head with multiple complex filament swap head.
I'm already working on a StealthChanger, it will only print as i've got other machines for laser and CNC but i'll be posting videos on that too.
Better then ERCF? Easier?
Easier, yes, 100%. Better? Maybe? thats subjective and personal opinion i think.
can box totle use with Bambulab printer?
I doubt they open up Klipper enough for it so im 90% sure it wouldn't work without rooting the printer first.
Exiting work! I was working on my own design when I found thid video. May give it up. I'm missing a principle-of-operation description. Would be sufficient with a page first in the html doc with just the filament paths and the crucial components like motors, sensors, concentrator and their roles.
Snap!
I LIKE THE IDEA OF AMS’S FOR LOADING AND MANAGING THE FILAMENT IN A CENTRAL SPOT. I THINK TOOL CHANGERS ARE PROB THE BEST FOR MULTI PRINTING THOUGH. THIS W/ TOOL HEAD WILL PWN ALL…
is there going to be a board made to support the 5th lane
Isiks tech has said they will eventually yes.
@@makermylo are you willing to share how you got five lanes what board are you using.
321
Go!
Do you share also manual, how to assemble it? E.g. for Patreons. I found only BOM
It’s now released!
Where is manual?
Why not use full NEMA17 steppers instead of the pancake motors? Cost is probably less and weight isn't an issue and the extra power would make it for sure not the weak Link in the system for running as fast as possible
I guess you could mod it to use Nema 17's if you wanted, space might be an issue.
1) so this is a 2x more expensive copy of ERCF 6 kit feeder 2) please can you cut out the pauses between sentences in video edit? its simple to do and will improve the quality a LOT.
1. It shares nothing at all with ERCF, so certainly not a copy. 2. Got an example timestamp? Had a few people comment there wasn't enough pauses in recent videos.
@MakerMylo - Great presentation of a great tool! Question, does this work with bed dropper’s vs Flying Gantries… Looking for a solution for my K1C
@@TheJacklwilliams it should do, I’ve asked Creality for a K1 to try it but I doubt they will as they just launched their own.
@ Thanks Mylo! I’m digging around looking at all I can find to zero in what system to buy/build. I like what you showed of the turtle. It looks like a well designed solution. What I like about the bed dropper and this is, just opinion as I haven’t experienced it yet, is when the filament change is triggered, any retract is short and sweet since the distance to the extruder from the system is the same each time as opposed to the gantry being on the bottom and the retract and subsequent filament roll/buffer rewind has to deal with that. Again, that’s me spouting on about something I’ve had no experience with. Yet….
I'd like to just say I think this looks cool. Bedslingers are back? lol.
It is very, very cool and still gets used daily, but i doubt its a crazy return.
@makermylo lol I feel that tho. I'm in the middle of converting all of my bed slingers to core-xy.
Looks like there's a motor for each lane. Did you need to add a stepper expansion board?
For my 5 lane, i used 2x MMB's originally as it was still in beta, it now runs on a Spider v3 but it lacks functionality due to not having the bi-directional assist motors.
I don’t see the links to the kits you mentioned in the video
It's linked in the description, and LDO will be releasing a version very soon too. store.isiks.tech/collections/box-turtle-parts
Sigh here we go again now I have to make it
I'm not very interested in 4 colors. Make it 6 and I'm in. Has at least match my tapchanger...lol
Its infinitely expandable, As you see mine is 5, at the moment you'd need to buy a 2nd AFC Board or get creative but its very possible.
Have a ercf V2 was about to start building are any ercf transferable to the turtle?
Not much of it, You might be better selling ERCF as a kit.
@@makermylo looks like I'll have to try and sell it for someone else to build. Is the BOM available for the turtle so I can start ordering parts?
Once it’s in full release and kits are out I’m definitely building one! I love not having the cutter on the tool head seams way easier
Its out!!!
@ the kit is kinda Spendy. I don’t think self source would be that hard
The future is switchable toolheads
A sidestep maybe, but subscribe ;) You may enjoy the upcoming content!
I don’t disagree but this is leaps and bounds cheaper to build than a tool changer. Just a hot end, extruder and tool head board could be the same price as a box turtle.
Where could I find the 5-lane version mod, and how big is your printer? Is it a 300 or 350? Also, how are you getting that many lanes for motor controllers?
Mine is a 350, it's not a released 'Mod' its essentially +1 on everything and then figure out the electronics.
@@makermylo Did you have to do anything fancy with the hub? It looks like it's only for 4 filaments.
@@Muddles178 It has an extra hole in the top of mine for a 5th input.
Just joined the discord, really enjoyed the build process of this. I like the integrated dryer box teaser too. This is a multi filament unit Im highly interested in building... ercf always seemed, to finicky to wanna tackle
I counted 1 min, 15 secs to change. Great work, but separate tools ultimate solution
Yeah, mine is in no way tuned for speed, infact it was barely working at the time of recording due to a power issue causing stalls at anything more than 100mm/s feeding, some people are running 250-300mm/s fast move speeds.
I think a ams would be a good addition to the last toolhead in the chain on a changer.
If it would work with the mmu3 fron prusa and the gpio board -> will buy it of course!
