Understanding Drumbrute Song Mode | How To Save, Erase, Edit, and Manage Songs
This video clears up confusion on how to create songs, save songs, erase songs, and edit songs on the Arturia Drumbrute - both in step recording mode and realtime mode.
Since we published our first video on how to save the memory of the Drumbrute and create backups on your computer, a few people have contacted me asking how to create and save a song. The steps outlined in the Drumbrute instruction manual are incorrect so this video will walk you through the correct process of making sure you know how to save your songs without losing your work.

How To Diagnose Drumbrute Issue With Quiet & Silent Maracas | Arturia Faulty Noise Generator Problem
Переглядів 6 тис.7 років тому
Apparently there’s an issue with faulty white noise generators in some of the Arturia Drumbrutes, which mainly manifests itself by inaudible or quiet maracas as well as some weirdness with the tambourine sound and decay. This video shows you what that issue may sound like, and below you can find information to help speed up the repair of your unit if your Drumbrute has this issue. How To Save D...

This just happened with my unit a few days ago. Just contacted Arturia, but I'm not sure if they'll still fix the issue!?
Thank you! I had been relying on prior knowledge and held pattern then save instead of the other way round🤬
Can we restore only one bank from the 4 available from a saved template? I want to maintain the 3 other banks.
That s syllable in your speaking is so sharp
Useless tutorial.
so if all the factory presets are deleted by accident I can reload them by usb & website?
I was pulling my hair out watching so many Drumbrute tutorials, none of them explained how to just save patterns and songs etc.! Drove me crazy. Thank you so much.
I've checked the latest manual and they have fixed this information thankfully, but it's always good to see it visually anyway.
Synthlab, You just earned my subscription! I have had my DrumBrute for a couple of years now. I wish that I had found your channel long before now. I recently purchased a DrumBrute Impact to double the fun, and found it had no presets... So I created 5 or 6 patterns, and had issues saving them. Maybe due to that “Lost in Translation “ directions. I did find the proper save method through another channel, by pressing (save and pattern) . You have become my DrumBrute Go To from now on. You are very clear and precise with instructions. Arturia should hire you for their tutorials! Thanks again for time and effort.
Excellent. Very understandable and well described.
Is it true aa song can only be 16 patterns long? That's gonna be a short song, unless it's super slow tempo
Yep. I got round it by chainng two songs together but you have to change them manually on the fly so it's hopeless for a live situation
I have yet to actually try making a song, but it was super frikkin' helpful to see how you were able to string patterns together. I will say this, Aturia customer support have been *awesome* helping me figure out how to properly input this into me DAW and solve other issues (mainly because I have no idea what I'm doing).
thanks for clearing up that issue!
Same process for impact?
Good instructional 👍 interested to know what signal path & FX you're using outboard of the DB - sounds good!
This a really god vid! Thank you! You should be hired by Arturia! Perhaps you know the answer to an other question. I am saving patterns in the song. but it seems you can only save a string of 16 patterns in a song? Seems a bit wierd
Hello, I solved the problem here. if you want to see
Thank’s for thé anecdotes haha
sounds like spok on the recent Star trek movies.
Thank you!
The DrumBrute is a very versatile unit that does more than what it appears. I considered buying another machine (Roland TR-09, Behringer 808) to add more sequencing options, but the DrumBrute is capable of doing what I need. It's biggest weakness is the manual. I got more out of this video than the book and the video has reinvigorated my interested in the machine.
Same here, I bought mine and haven't touched it due to confusion from lack of manual and easy to understand videos but this guy made me interested in the DrumBrute all over again.
Great info. Thanks a lot! How many patterns can be chained in each song?
is 16 or 64 patterns? did you get to know hot to make longer sons? :(
@@baudelaire6647 The longest you can make a song is 16 patterns. if you use 64 step patterns, you can think of that as 4 measures in 4/4 time for each pattern. The problem is you can only chain 16 of them together, so you can only make a 64 measure song at the longest. No way around it other than to do a live performance take. Totally useless if you want it to save a whole song to put on a recording or play live as a drummer. Really sad since it can do so much more in all the other ways.
@@Gegatso as a drum machine to play Love simple patterns as I want to do its perfect, just for simple songs as dark wave synth pop post Punk songs, what do u think
@@baudelaire6647 If your songs are extremely short, you are fine. It does not matter if they are simple or complex, because it is the length of what you can put into a song that it terrible. 64 measures in 4/4 time at 120 bpm won't even give you a 90 second song. Mine is a hard pass. I can't work with it. Going to go with an Akai MPC One. 999 pattern limit per song, plus those can all be different, PLUS, you can repeat patterns. You could create a drum part that goes for hours quickly and easily. More sounds, the ability to add samples of your own, can work as a stand alone workstation. It is a no- brainer for me. I just had a brain blip when I did not see that the song memory on this device was so tiny. Not even close to being acceptable. My songs range from simple to very complex..plus, I like the idea of having unlimited drum sounds and the ability to have many different kits. This would be great if I just wanted to do live drum stuff only and change the beat up as time went on, but for making songs, it is pretty much impossible unless you want to use your computer as a midi controller...that's the last thing I want. I want to be able to take the device wherever I am and work on the parts and get the songs arranged.
@@Gegatso I agree in everything with u, im just thinking in let the pattern go not in the song mode only to play Live, I wish I knew the limitations this synth has but the celler would not tell u something like that ahhaha.
Thank you!
I'm still wondering why song mode didn't have 64 patterns. It would not use much memory. It would be pain to input but still it would be awesome. Then i could get enough songs for playing with band and use the machine for developing songs when i want. I play bass as well so now i have to switch patterns with midi footswich and its just a chore to do. I have impact model and it has the same issue.
so are you sure that it only has 16 patterns and not 64? thats hell of a short song!!!! i thought that it may be able to make longer patterns :(
@@baudelaire6647 Pretty sure. I havent found a way to input more than 16 patterns to a song. In our future songs i will limit the length to 32 patterns. 2 songs for one real song. Then i can just press play and select second song to start after first 😁. And then i store 8 real songs in the machine.
My friend I just found a video about how make longer patterns of 64 steps I think that this may help what do u think?? ua-cam.com/video/hcQi39exJ1o/v-deo.html
@@baudelaire6647 Unfortunately not. That is pattern length discussed there and that does not work in song mode, i was complaining about song length in patterns, not pattern lenght in beats.
@@Vaari80 ohhh thats so dissappointing!!!, so If ur playing Live you can change from song 1 to song 2 quickly? It really works? Please let me know!
big thanks for this!
This is why I don't read the manual! I was a little confused by saving/loading patterns, so I thought, "Hey, maybe I'll just read the manual for once," and I thought I was losing my mind because the words seem to be very straightforward but none of it actually worked and it made me feel crazy so I just went back to figuring it out by poking buttons till it did what I wanted. :)
This part of the engine is actually badly implemented, it’s overly complicated and requires far to much menu diving for anyone to really remember how to use. I went from the engine to the digitskt and tried going back to the engine for fun but it’s just a disaster for stuff like this.
So, probably a stupid question, but I'm fairly new to drum machine programming, so here goes: I just bought a used drum brute off Ebay. I was under the impression that you could write patterns and then chain different patterns to create a song. You then record your song and save it on a bank, right? But if you changed the settings for another song, would you then return to a previous "song" only to find the sounds are now different? My question is- I need songs that are saved so I can play live. Is this the right machine for me?
By change the settings, do you mean change the knobs like tone, impact, pitch, level, etc? Regardless of what pattern is playing, the sound that comes out of your machine will reflect what is shown on the knobs. My recommendation would be to find a basic “norm” setting for your drums that you can quickly adjust in a few small ways to match your different tracks. Once you learn what that norm setting looks and sounds like like, it shouldn’t be to hard to get yourself back there in a performance and then to your next setting
Hi! Do you know if it is a similar process with the drumbrute Impact?
Well If you haven’t found your answer in a year hahah then yes it’s all the same besides some extra sounds and output options and the filter instead of distortion.
I just spent 270 on reverb for a used drumbrute and it arrived defective. Wat more defective than this though, mine actually doesnt work at all. It turns one and kinda makes noise and some of the buttons work. None of the knobs do anything. 270 down the drain 😭😭
Can controller type tracks send midi program change messages? like if i wanted to change patterns on my avalon or drum machine?
Thanks for this. Was finding the manual really hard to understand.
While I'm here does anyone know why my mix output is so noisy? I got a drumbrute off of reverb.com and I'm not positive the power supply is stock. Could this be the issue?
Hello, I solved the problem here. if you want to see, on my channel
The thing I always like to remember is....the people who own perfectly functional Drumbrutes are quite satisfied with their unit and don't generally post about it being perfectly functional on social media. It's like a fucking plane crash on the news. You only ever hear about a flight when something goes wrong. So let's all calm down...and not jump to the ridiculous conclusions that all Drumbrutes are broken and that Arturia is a "scam company". That's an actual quote from some moron in the comments below.
How do you add patterns on an existing song in the middle of existing patterns?
I bet you can't
Finally I understand this, I am happy to return home a try :)
thank you !!!!!!! desde argentina
So basically the Drumbrute is absolutely worthless in song mode. It would seem you can only create a song thats maybe 1 or 2 minutes long unless the song arrrangement just repeats itself over and over whoch makes it complete GARBAGE for any genre other than hip hop, rap or techno. The Korg EMX-1 hasnt been made in nearly a decade and its still the worlds best drum machine/work station/sequencer. Way to completely fuck up, Arturia.
I thought so too but it turns out it is still memorizing your pattern even after the light stops blinking red when you touch it to put a pattern in your sequence. But I think the key is to use 32, 48, or 64 long patterns and use the 16 for transition parts or fills. A lot harder then copy and paste in pro-tools.
I just record songs chunk by chunk, you're right its a total pain in the ass but you can make it work.
Trying to control a Prophet 6 with the gligli upgrade which enables midi control. Gone through these steps and assigned knobs but it won’t work. I’ve tried doing this on the synth type pattern and on control type patterns. Any advice on how to trouble-shoot?
Hi - great video! I’m also having a hard time figuring out why my tempo isn’t being saved...does it not store tempo information when saving pattern data?
"does it not store tempo information when saving pattern data?" Correct, it does not.
If you wanted a smooth filter opening, could you then slide to the different steps? And if so, could you then just set the first step at a low number and the last step at your 120 and slide up to it?
Not sure which version of the manual you’re reading but my version instructs exactly how you describe it here. Hold save and press song.
And this is why I will never give my money to ARTURIA. Unacceptable.
I just got one and did not know that the limit on a song was 64 measures in 4/4 time. That makes for some very short songs. I can't even think of that as a song. I guess it is fine if you are doing a 30 second commercial jingle, but worthless for a song that has any length to it.
Great tutorial! Thx, that was a help
Good god! Unbelievable that this could happen, thankfully guy's like you are on point! Well done m8 ;-)
Is their a serial number series that is at high risk? I think I have the same problem. photos.app.goo.gl/OIEAfqA7knpjNN3q2
Thanks, well expand.
Brilliant mate. Thank you.
Does Drumbrute not save the tempo to songs? I've just saved Pattern and Song but when i turn it back on the tempo reverts to 120BPM
this might be a year too late: it does save the tempo, your "Global BPM" might be switched on. Try pressing Shift+15 (in the Step Sequencer).
I too had this problem; had to send my unit for Thomann for repairs (6 weeks!). I wonder what will defect next..maybe I'm better off selling the unit.
