Cagney mainly tapped danced. Cagney didn't Rumba or do the Bolero. Even Cagney said he liked George's dancing better than his own. If you don't like Raft why did you bother to watch?😆

The song is not a Rumba beat that's for sure. I should know I am a professional dancer. Sway has been used by other Tango dancers. Go search it out. I have before I made this video. The song has been put to what is called a French Tango. A dance George liked doing because it was more versatile and better to watch then a regular Tango.This way you could see the faces of the dancers.

No, I wanted to make it a bit more up to date. The original is in the movie "Side Street" 1929. Besides my liking Prima I edited the video to make it longer and show off Georges fabulous dancing. It took quite a while of editing to piece and sync all of this together. I hope you liked it.

I've always admired Cagney's dancing, but I don't like him chewing gum as he dances. Maybe it's how the character was written, maybe it's another Cagney physical ad lib to make himself memorable, but it just takes away from the elegance of the dance and gives his character the aura of a cheap hoodlum. I've seen this movie and it's full of Cagney physical ad libs. Like when he's trying to steal a kiss from Loretta Young, he rubs noses with her, Eskimo style.
If only George Raft Dance Nights could happen for lovers of the Raft style! The wonder could be enjoyed in his close embrace style. Not many will ever know the joy of Argentine Tango but at least a taste of the embrace could be enjoyed in the Raft style rumba and tango. (but, not for the squeamish)

This is hilarious! Those two pirate sailors strung up by their thumbs, finger puppets, shadows, even harmony and singing on key, great! And yes, a good film too. Raft was unusually expressive in this one. Loved it!

Yes he could. He and George were good friends. It was Cagney that asked the studio to put George to dance in this part of the movie. Cagney liked George's dancing style and vice versa.
