A great film totally transfixed, excellent with so little dialogue

There's something hypnotic about this film: I had it on a loop, for a while (the acting, the music, the story itself -one man versus the elements)...It got me into watching a bunch of documentaries about Donald Crowhurst (very tragic, TRUE story...) What makes somebody take on such a challenge, in the first place, is the key question, I think...

What a sad commentary on the lives of so many boomers. Fulfillment is to keep working? What about to help other people? Why this relentless focus on yourself?

this is a great, great movie. Never in a million years thought that McConaughey could act like the way he did in this movie, and Jared Leto was totally awesome in this one. A must see!

As an experienced single-handed sailor this film had me constantly screaming bullshit every few minutes. It is totally unrealistic all the way through and sailors who make just one bad decision of the many he made do not survive. I did have a laugh at him reconnecting the PL259 antenna cable at the top, of a very steady mast !, with a spanner (wrench) and cutting away a fallen mast by severing one line, what about the minimum six steel stays? Hollywood should stay away from anything to do with boats.

A silent film?

Love this movie 🎬, it shows you how GREAT of an actor Robert Redford truly is just holding a whole film together like this with about only 5 speaking lines in a whole script. The sounds of the air,ocean,water,waves and wind was fascinating alone ,i think if not my favorite, one of the best movies of 2013👍🙂❣️

I liked that he very carefully credited every worker who worked on the production of this excellent movie. And he prominently acknowledged Maersk steamship company, Copenhagen,who saved his life at the end. The movie conveys very well the despairing conditions of trying to remain on a sailboat 1/2 filled with seawater. I don't know why he didn't just use a fully reefed mainsail instead of a storm jib.

Movies like this, of solo survival, touch us because they express what it's like for each of us in life. We all struggle. When we have other people around to help us our struggle is lessened. When we struggle the most is when we are alone, physically, emotionally or otherwise. When you know no one is coming to help, it forces you to figure it out yourself, when you know it's do or die. And that can be the greatest reward, when you know you can rely on yourself.

This is a Christian movie. There are many messages from Jesus in this movie. about 80% of the movie shows our life and how weak humans are. There is nothing he can do on the small boat in the middle of the ocean. He is just trying to find out his location. Will it make the difference if he finds out his location ? He couldn't even stop the ship going next to him. In the last 10 minutes, How could he stop the ship ? He was able to hold the ship when he gave up everything he had. The small boat is everything he had. That's what exactly Jesus says. If you want to follow me , then give up everything. After his boat got burned up, he gave up his life and was sinking. What happened then ? He saw the light above. God just show us the path , we are the ones who have to do it. God knows he was sinking but he never jumps in to save him. He must swim up to the surface of water. at the end of movie , did you see God is giving him a hand when he almost reaches the surface ?

I rented this right after watching The Best Man on Netflix…I love this movie!!!! The chemistry is so good… I live EVERYONE in this…. I must see it is such a joy to watch Terrance Howard smile and be in a movie like this… I love him! I love every actor in this!❤️❤️❤️

Man why are they waiting so long for a part three

Jared is a great all-rounder and so compelling, but I've read so much stuff about him being a super sketchy, douchey human being. I hope the latter isn't true.
